but it felt like I was

in my life

The biscuits can be any style
or flavour that you like,

but they have to be hanging
at the end of the challenge.

I've never made biscuits in my life
until this show.

It's all about decoration.
It's about the flavours.

And more importantly, it's
about the texture and the bake.

That's what I'll be looking at.

Why don't you just eat
the individual ingredients

and then they'll turn
into biscuits inside you?

the tree,

so we want them
beautifully decorated.

It's all about getting
that definition,

getting the hole,
and getting it hanging right.

If they don't, the chances are
it's going to shatter.

I'm making gingerbread biscuits with

a little bit out of the middle
for stained glass.

So my old man got me
into bird watching

when I was very young.

And I was a fully paid-up member
of the YOC and the RSPB.

So, I am making
gingernut garden birds

of Britain oft forgotten
at Christmas.

Why are they forgotten at Christmas?

Because the robin
gets all the headlines, Prue.

Prue's the robin of our group.

Matt's forgotten festive
flock will be spiced

with ginger and cumin,

and individually decorated

with identifying piped plumage.

As I said at the start,

I'm making the classic
13 blackbirds of Christmas.

I thought they were crows.

Don't make it worse, Prue.

They're fractionally overbaked.
But they're really delicious.

You can taste the caramel in it.

Where you've fallen flat
a little bit is the volume

- of icing on it.
- Fallen flat?

Sweetness with the biscuit works
quite nicely.

It just looks a bit horrific
for Christmas.

Overall, the decoration,
I think, is excellent.

It's time
for your Technical Challenge.

And this one has been set for you
by our very own sugarplum fairy.

It's Paul... No, it's Prue Leith.

for our Peeps?

Yes. This is my favourite
Christmas recipe.

Please don't mess it up.

As ever, this Technical Challenge
will be judged blind.

So we're going to have
to ask these two naughty elves

to do one. Off you pop.

So, for your Technical Challenge,
Prue would love you

to bake six miniature versions of
that Christmas classic,

the turkey pie.

Your turkey pie should consist of
a crisp shortcrust pastry

and be filled with
a flavoursome filling,

and served alongside a home-made
cranberry sauce.

- Mmm.
- Oh, stop it.

Now, because this
is a Peep Show special,

they want your pies to be
in the shape of the Peep Show eye.

An eye-shaped turkey pie?!

You've got this.
I know you have, bakers,

- You've got an hour and a half.
- On your marks...

- ..get set...
- ..bake.

This is hilarious.

I kind of assumed someone
would do it for us.

Do you know what I think
is a great use for cold turkey?

You just simply put it in
a sandwich,

and actually actively
more pleasant than,

for example, a pie, which takes
so much hassle.

So, Prue, leftover turkey pies.

Bit of a favourite?

Well, I love leftovers.

I think the best thing about
Christmas is really the leftovers.

These are a rather unusual shape.
It's the Peep Show logo.

And it's an homage to
that famous scene

when Jeremy says
that he's forgotten the turkey.

- Where's the turkey?
- I thought you
were getting the turkey.

You what? No turkey?!

I think these look great.

It's quite difficult
to get the pastry into that mould.

They've got an hour and a half
for this challenge.

I think they're going to run out of
time, because you know what's going

to happen - they've got to mess
around with the filling,

mess around with the pastry.

And they need a good 25 minutes
in the oven.

If they're underbaked,
it could fall apart.

And the cranberry - that's a
disaster waiting just there.

- Do you think?

OK, I'll take my pie here.

The filling is really simple.
It's leftover turkey.

But they've got to chop it up
because these are tiny pies,

so you don't want great lumps.

- That is lovely.
- Do you want
a bit of cranberry, Prue?

Yeah, give me a dollop.

Blended with the cranberry,

bringing that little bit of sourness
as well is gorgeous.

Christmas is famous for disasters,
so let's hope this is not one.

I've never made shortcrust pastry.
I'm so out of my comfort zone.

"Tip the flour, butter and salt
into a bowl,

"then rub the butter into the flour
using your fingertips."

I'm actually using my
whole fleshy hands.

I just don't want to embarrass
myself like I did this morning.

Now I'm going to have to
live with me.

"Add water, one tablespoon
at a time,

"until the mixture comes
together into a ball."

This isn't coming together at all.

It's supposed to be Christmas.

Perhaps everyone's had a row.

OLIVIA CHUCKLES

The Christmas Showstopper is
all about

their favourite Peep Show moment
in cake.

Two tablespoons of cocoa powder.

It's all about the decoration,
flavour.

And then the scene
should be well recognised.

It's like a living nightmare.

What could be more Christmassy
than that?

I think creating a novelty cake
is always a tricky challenge.

The first thing they've got
to get right is the sponge batter.

One, two, three, four, five, six.

You don't want to overbake the cake
because it'll be dry as a bone.

You don't want to underbake it
so it's raw in the middle.

They've got to get the sponge
baked correctly.

Vanilla bean paste.
What am I up to?

The sponges obviously can carry
a lot of flavour,

but so can the filling.

It's got to balance out correctly.

Whatever flavour they choose,

we want it to taste absolutely
delicious.

I can't grate that bit.

How do I grate that bit?
It's wasted.

It's not going to be carroty enough.

I am excited about this challenge.

And there are some decent bakers
in there,

so I'm expecting big things today.

I'm trying to remember
the last time I made a cake.

I think it was for
my daughter's christening.

Well, I'm making two Victoria
sponges cut into various body parts.

will be filled with raspberry jam

and assembled to commemorate
the time Super Hans ran to Windsor.

My legs have gone, man.
They're...jelly.

Paralysed.

People think I just landed on
planet Earth into Peep Show,

and, like, never existed before.

I had a 16-year stand-up career

in Australia, and I was
over here doing this show,

doing the Edinburgh Festival.
The woman that was casting

Peep Show came to my show
because it was raining.

There were eight people in the
audience and she was like,

"Excuse me, I'm actually casting
a new Channel 4 sitcom,

"and there's a part of a terrible
drug addict

"and your face is just perfect."

- What a lovely Christmas story.

character in a moment of crisis.

I'm making an apple and cinnamon
cake,

and in the shape of a ball pit,
where my character,

she'd just got back together
with Mark,

and then April turns up
and he buries Sophie to hide her.

Olivia's ball pit will be carved

How many Christmas dinners did
you have to eat filming that?

As you'll know, if you've got to
eat something in a scene,

you eat the minimum.

So, you say, OK, I'm going to have
a sprout, and then that's it.

And then you know, OK, so
I'm in for probably 30 sprouts.

- Have you ever watched Downton Abbey?

- Yes.
- You can see them all doing it.

They've got a huge banquet
in front of them.

- And if they scoff a load on the
first take...
- You've got to do it.

for continuity.

And before you know it,
you're vomiting pheasant.

So it's Big Suze and Mark in bed,

and he thinks it's going to be quite
an electrifying moment.

And in fact, Big Suze just treats
him like a sweet,

furry, sexless teddy.

Sophie will capture
this mortifying moment

for Mark in a rich
and boozy coffee cake.

Kind of like a modern day eunuch,
aren't you, Mark?

Yes, I suppose so.

Sophie might be featuring one of
Mark's many romantic failures...

Is it hard watching people bake
when they're not as good as you?

- Sometimes.
- Yeah. You're not feeling

a rare moment of triumph.

I'm making the moment when Mark and
Dobby are in the work cafeteria,

and my character carries
her own personal cheese.

So I'll do David's face as it was
in 2008.

Oh, it was great back then.

Because there's something
growing on it now.

Wow, you carry personal cheese.

- Is that allowed?
- I'm a smoker.

- I need man Cheddar, you know?
- Right.

Complete with her chunk of cheese,
Isy's scene will be crafted from

a spiced chocolate cake and topped

with fondant renditions of
Dobby and Mark in their prime.

He's aged very well.

- Some people look right as they age.
- As they get older.

- Yeah.

- Some people look wrong.

Some people maybe peak at nine.

- You want to peak at, like, 49,
don't you?
- Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

I'd say it's fractionally overbaked,
but it's delicious.

Flavour-wise, it is very good,
but it is slightly overbaked.

You can feel it quite dry on
the mouth,

but the jam inside is very good.

the design is not bad, to be honest.

So it's a chocolate cake flavoured
with cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger.

You know, the cake is a little
bit dry. But you know what,

- with the icing, it tastes great.
- Flavour-wise,

it's quite tricky to get all those
spices to work in a sponge cake.

And what's even more unusual for me,

you wouldn't necessarily do it
with chocolate, but it works.

Yes, it does.
I think it's really original.

You're obviously highly artistic.
It's very alive.

My cake is an apple
and cinnamon cake

with cinnamon buttercream
in the middle,

and it is the scene where Sophie
gets buried in the ball pit by Mark.

She's drunk as well.

You've done the modelling
beautifully and it's very neat.

It works beautifully well
because it's clean and simple.

I know this scene quite well.
It's brilliant.

Very well thought through.

But let's have a look and see
what it tastes like.

Flavour's spot-on.

Yeah, I think you've done
a good job with that apple cake.

The apple's still got texture to it.

And that balanced with the cinnamon

Well, it's a carrot cake that's
supposed to look like a cauliflower,

because in the Peep Show
Christmas episode,

my character's father insists

I mean, compared to where you were

It's amazing, isn't it?
I can't quite believe that.

Just move all the Oscars and
everything else and put that up.

I will, I will. This will be the
only one that I'll have on display.

Olivia won because she was most
consistent for me

over the three challenges.

Her Showstopper was just so witty
and the cake was wonderful.

That was exciting.

So exciting!

I know Olivia's very good at baking.

She's also got an Oscar.

I've got merit in grade one piano.

I'm going to talk to some people
after this.

Woo!

We've had a brilliant
couple of days.

And now it's time to kick back,

I have absolutely adored being here,
I honestly have.

It was so much fun being
in a tent with those guys.

I think you're bonded
with some people,

no matter how many years go by.

To do this, to do Bake Off,
another British icon,

just feels like a really nice
bit of recognition

for this daft show that we made
back in the day.

Absolutely loved it.
We've all loved it, actually.

We were able to have a laugh
and reminisce,

but also see each other bake at
a competent level.

And I don't think we foresaw

that all those years ago
when Peep Show started.
