Hey good morning! I woke up this morning with a question,

a question to you, and that is:

Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?

This question is not just my question. It's actually a question from the Bible,

when Paul came to Ephesus, you read about that in Acts 19,

he met some believers, and the first thing he asked them was:

Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?

We have seen many, many, many believers receive the Holy Spirit.

Many, many, many believers been baptized with the Holy Spirit.

A week ago we baptized around 30 people in water.

While people were baptized in water I walked around and laid hands on people

and prayed for people to receive the Holy Spirit.

And I want to show you one clip here of a woman

who received the Holy Spirit a week ago, when I laid hands on her.

Close your eyes.

Come on! This is for everyone!

Come on! God wants to give the Spirit to us!

(tongues)

Come on! This is what we should do!

Go around and pray for healing, deliverance and the Holy Spirit!

As I said before, it's for you. Don't hold back.

Keep pressing through.

Repent, get baptized and you shall receive.

Look at that! You shall receive the Holy Spirit.

It's so beautiful. It's so beautiful.

So we just go around and pray for people.

So here you can see how she received the Holy Spirit.

She did not receive the Holy Spirit when she believed,

but she received Him later, there, when I laid hands on her.

There is many people out there in the world who will mock what is happening.

There is people in the church who will mock what is happening.

Oh, this is not real, this is not real, and what about this.

And the words, we don't understand what you are saying,

and it doesn't sound like tongues, like they know how tongues sound like.

Let's forget what have we grown up in our culture, in our traditions,

and then just build on the Bible and the Bible alone.

What do we see in the Bible?

In the Book of Acts we see, after the Holy Spirit was poured out on people,

we see different examples of people who received the Holy Spirit.

In Acts 2, 120 people were gathered and the Holy Spirit came on each of them,

and they later preached the gospel with boldness

and even more people got baptized in water and got born again.

But it's not only in Acts 2 we see example of that.

We see an example in Acts 8, where Philip came to Samaria,

and he was preaching and they repented and believed, and got baptized in water,

but they have not yet received.

So here is clear, from what we see in Acts 8,

that it is possible to repent and believe and be baptized in water

without receiving the Holy Spirit. It's possible.

And the apostles came there and they laid hands on those people

who there have repented and got baptized.

And when they laid hands on them, there, in that moment, they received,

exactly like you see in that video, with the woman I just prayed for a week ago.

What happened when she received... when they recieved?

There was a sign. Something happened. They could see that they have not yet received.

They could see. Everyone could see that by the hands of the apostles they there received.

We don't see exactly what happened in Acts 8, but if you go to Acts 10,

when Peter came to the house of Cornelius, he was preaching,

and suddenly they started to speak in tongues and worship God.

And when he saw that he knew that: Wow! They have received the Spirit just like us.

So, the sign Peter saw there was that they spoke in tongues and worshiped God.

And then we go to Acts 19, as I started with, where Paul said:

Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?

And they haven't received the Holy Spirit when they believed.

So Paul needed to preach the full gospel to them so they really understand

what it was, and there they got baptized to Christ and there he laid hands on them

and they received. Why? Because they started to speak in tongues and prophesied.

This is exactly the same today.

There is nothing new under the sun. It's exactly what we read in the Bible.

In the Book of Acts we can see that some people repented first and got baptized,

and then they received later.

Some people received first, and then they get baptized later.

We also see in the Book of Acts that there is a clear sign when people receive the Holy Spirit.

The sign is that they start to speak in tongues or worship, or speak in tongues and prophesy.

There is a sign that they have received the Holy Spirit.

Many don't like the Book of Acts because they don't see that

as the normal Christian life where they come from.

And then they take verses out of context

and just dismiss everything we read in the Book of Acts.

For example, in Ephesians 1:13 we read that Paul said to the church in Ephesus:

Were you not sealed with the promise of God when you believed?

And they said: Look here. We all have the Holy Spirit when we believe.

But you have to remember that Paul wrote a letter to Ephesians,

not to a Lutheran church today, not to a Catholic church,

not to a Baptist church, not to your church, but to that church.

And what did they do at that time, when they believed?

At that time, they repented, they got baptized, and they received the Holy Spirit.

And therefore Paul could write to them:

Were you not sealed with the Holy Spirit when you believed?

Because when people believed at that time,

it was just different than many people today, when they believe.

Today there are people who come to faith, without knowing about the Holy Spirit.

There are people who come to faith...

...thinking that the Holy Spirit is not for today.

There is people who come to faith thinking that tongues is only for a few.

There is people who come to faith and think that the gifts ceased with the apostles.

There is so many people out there who have different kind of believe or kind of faith.

What I encourage you to is...

don't build on your traditions. Take the Book of Acts.

Take the Bible and read it through.

What do you see in the Book of Acts?

You see that the norm should be: repent, believe, be baptized and receive.

You repent toward God, believe in Jesus Christ and get baptized to Him,

and then, after you got baptized to Him,

you receive the Holy Spirit by the laying of hands.

Sometimes it happens right there, in the baptism, as we often see.

Other times it happens later. Or sometimes it even happens before.

What is important that all of us out there, we repent, believe, are baptized,

and we receive the Holy Spirit.

There are some people who mock speaking in tongues... (Torben speaks)

because it sounds weird. And I know it sounds weird.

The Bible says so. The Bible says: If you come into a room

and everyone speak in tongues, you'll think they are crazy.

Because this is how it is.

A good picture I use is the modem, old modem.

For you who are older, you know what I'm talking about.

But you know the old modem, when you connected to the internet...

And the modem was connecting to the internet. It sounds weird.

But when the modem is connected to the internet, you will get information down here.

The same way is when you speak in tongues... (Torben speaks in tongues)

it's not just the words. It's your spirit that is connecting.

Paul said: I speak more in tongues than anyone else.

And he did. He spoke more in tongues than anyone else.

And when you speak in tongues you edify yourself,

you build up your spirit. (Torben speaks in tongues)

I speak mysteries to God. No one understands me. It's mysteries to God.

(Torben speaks in tongues) But I still build up my spirit.

And when you speak in tongues it's easy to go into prophecy.

When you speak in tongues it's easier to experience dreams and visions.

When you speak in tongues it's easier to experience the faith,

healing the sick and casting out demons. And this is also what we see.

Those churches who dismiss tongues very often don't have a lot of prophecy,

healing, deliverance, and all of that. It's not what they have most of.

Why? Because they dismiss tongues.

And we need that. We need it all.

Another thing why people dismiss tongues is because when I speak i tongues...

People say: you are not allowed to do that because there needs to be an interpretation,

somebody to interpret it.

And there where people often go wrong is that there are different kind of tongues.

Because in Acts 2, I think they got the personal tongue...

...as you saw on the video, but they also experienced the miracle

where people from other nations suddenly understood what they are saying.

It's not something we can do when we want to, but I experienced that.

I experienced when I was out, talking with non-believers,

and suddenly the Spirit came over me and I changed, my tongues changed.

I did not understand what I was saying, but they understood,

in another language, they understood what I was saying.

That is one kind of the tongues.

Then there is the tongues where Paul said: When you speak in tongues,

only two or three at a time, and somebody needs to come with the interpretation.

That is also not this tongue.

This is where you are together as a church. And we saw that.

We see that very, very often. Every time we come together almost now,

at our kickstart weekends and so on, there is people who stand up

and come with a tongue, and everyone is quiet. And then there is people

who stand up and come with an interpretation where people understand

what has bee said, so it edifies the body. And I experienced that.

I experienced coming with the tongues. I experienced coming with an interpretation,

where somebody came with a tongue, and my spirit, and words, and I understood it,

and I started to speak out what my spirit revealed to me.

So, what we see in the Bible is that there are different kinds of tongues.

There are different kinds of tongues.

There is the personal tongues...

I believe is for everyone, because I see that.

And that is where you are building up your spirit.

Like when you are born in the natural, you get a natural language,

when you can speak with people.

When you get born by the Spirit, or when you receive the Spirit,

you can speak... when you connect with God.

That is tongues where you connect with God, and edify yourself,

and no one else get benefit by that. It's only you.

And that's why we don't speak like that all the time on a platform

because people don't get anything out of it.

Then there is tongues when you come together as a body, as a church,

where somebody comes with a tongue and there we have the interpretation.

Why? So you edify the body.

And then there is a tongue you see in the Acts 2, where you speak

and people from other nations, other languages, understand what you are saying.

I had a friend, he came to faith by being in Africa,

and suddenly an African woman was preaching totally clear Danish to him.

And he understood everything. And he got convicted of his sin,

and he came to faith. He went to that woman and said: Hey, I want to talk to you.

And she did not understand Danish and she did not know what Denmark was.

She was just speaking in tongues. But he understood it all.

The Spirit came and did it.

So, there is a tongue, Acts 2, where you reach the lost.

That tongue has been lost many places in the church. So sad.

Then there is the tongue when you come together and you edify the body.

Then there is the tongue, the personal tongue, the prayer language,

between you and God, and this is what the Paul said:

I speak more in tongues than anyone else.

What we can also say about tongues and Paul, for example,

is that Paul is the guy who said: Imitate me as I imitate Christ.

Paul knew Christ. We know that he knew Christ.

He walked with Christ.

But what you have to understand about Paul,

compared to John, James and Peter, and the rest of the Twelve,

was that the rest of the Twelve walked with Jesus on earth,

they saw Jesus doing miracles, they saw when He fed the 5000.

They saw Jesus walk on the water. They were in Jesus' house.

They were doing Q&A with Jesus. They were listening to Jesus' teaching.

They were together with Him for three years. Non-stop.

But there was not James, John or Peter who said:

Imitate me as I imitate Christ. It was Paul.

It almost seems like Paul knew Christ better than John, James and Peter,

even Paul has never seen Jesus in the flesh,

even Paul never walked with Jesus, never has been in His house,

never saw Jesus do one miracle.

How can Paul know Jesus the way he did? The answer is: by the Spirit. By the Spirit.

Jesus said: It's the best for you that I go away because if I don't go away

I cannot send my Spirit.

It's the best for you. It's better for you that I go away.

Why? Because if Jesus was on earth today, you need to go to Israel to talk with Him.

You would stand in line, behind the billion of other people who also want to talk with Jesus.

And Jesus needs to sleep and go to toilet.

So in 30 years you could have five seconds.

But because He went away you can have Him 24/7.

And He has sent His Spirit to help you, to guide you,

to remind you of every word Jesus has spoken.

You need the Holy Spirit.

And tongues are important thing for walking with God.

It's an important thing for walking with God.

Why? Because there are many things we don't read in the Bible.

You don't read what city to move to, you don't read what car to buy,

you don't read who to marry.

I'm in North Carolina now. North Carolina is not written in the Bible.

I drive a Ford. Ford is not written in the Bible.

I'm married to Lene. Lene is not written in the Bible.

But I know I should marry my wife. I know I should have that Ford.

I know I should live here. Why? The Spirit has revealed it to me.

And that is often when I don't know what direction to go, what to do,

I pray in tongues a lot...

And I can also experience some things come up to my mind,

and the tongue intercedes and help me in my prayers,

and suddenly things come up and I know what to pray in my own language.

So, tongues is important in our walk with God.

If we want to walk by the Spirit, if we want to have testimonies

of how the Holy Spirit is leading us, tongues is very, very important.

And I believe this is for everyone. Everyone. Everyone.

And I believe when you get baptized with the Holy Spirit - you have it.

Do I therefore say that those who don't speak in tongues don't have the Spirit?

No, because there is people who sincere have been repented, prayed,

and asked, and the Spirit came into them.

They have the Spirit, but they don't speak in tongues,

because of the wrong teaching.

They are maybe waiting for their mouth to just move by itself,

or that thing is not for today, or they heard something else.

I met many, many hundreds of people out there,

and when I start to pray for them they say:

I would like the Holy Spirit. I would like tongues.

I pray for them, and when I start to pray for them, I'm like:

Hey, you already have it. Just open your mouth and speak.

And when then they start to open their mouth and say the first words,

it's just bubbling out of them. And this is what we have seen.

So, there is truly people out there who have received the Spirit.

Therefore they have tongues. They just need to use it,

open their mouth and start to speak.

But there are also many people out there who have not yet received the Holy Spirit.

And because they have not yet received the Holy Spirit...

they have a sincere faith in Christ, they have repented and got a new heart,

they got baptized and washed away their old sins, their old life.

So now they have a new heart, law is written on their heart,

they want to live a holy life, and they have lived in holiness,

and there is the fruit of the Spirit like that,

but there is no power.

There is no life. There is no miracles.

There are not those testimonies, as we see other places,

as I experienced, and other people who walk by the Spirit experienced.

So I just want to do this video this morning.

I have many more videos where I talk about the Holy Spirit.

I will put a few links in the description, together with this video,

but when I woke up this morning, the question which came to me was:

Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?

And this is what I want to ask you:

Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?

And you can see in this video, I've covered many, many different areas

in a very short time, and there are so many misunderstandings out there

about tongues and different views of tongues and the Holy Spirit.

So many people try to discredit it, or mock it,

but you can hear, we have an answer for all of that because it is biblical.

And it is for everyone. And this is what we are seeing.

Don't build your theology on experience.

That woman you saw, I prayed for in the video,

I will end up putting the video in again, so you can see one more time.

Try to see what happened there. She came to me and said:

I would like the Holy Spirit. She loved Jesus. She had a new heart.

She has been baptized, but she has not yet received the Holy Spirit.

And she has been prayed for many, many times

and she could not receive the Spirit.

See what happened when I laid hands and prayed for her.

I can just see the Holy Spirit come.

You can see it in her breathing. She just...

The Holy Spirit just came and filled her up.

I'm very close to her. I can see her mouth starts to move.

In some cases, like here, I just say: Say the first words. Open up.

Say the first word. Let it out.

And when she then started with saying the first words,

it's like open the tap water and water is running out.

And like living water it's just running out of her.

And look at the joy and all of that in her face.

And this is what it is.

Some people need laying of our hands to receive the Holy Spirit.

Some people need to go back to the foundation one more time:

repentance, baptism in water, and then they will receive the Holy Spirit.

Other people just need a little encouragement and get the misunderstanding away,

when it comes to tongues.

So, did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?

If the answer is: you don't have the Holy Spirit, if you don't speak in tongues,

this is for you. YOU. Don't listen to everyone around you.

I recommend a book, the Bible. Take the Book of Acts. Read Acts 2, 8, 10, 19,

and see the examples there, and see the links I have together with this video,

and then keep pressing through, as it's seen in this video,

until you have also received the Holy Spirit.
