All these kitchen cabinets
not gonna show up today.

- Feel the pressure
breathing down my neck.

When you're done
being a rock star,

can I get a measurement?

- Almost looks like
a caveman live here.

(Randy): I'm Randy Spracklin,
third generation builder,

proud Newfoundlander.

My team and I are building
up on one giant cliff

in the Atlantic Ocean.

They don't call it
a rock for nothing!

We fight the elements year-roud
to get the job done.

It might be tough for some,
but not for us.

Because when this is your view,
it's worth it.

(bright music)

(Randy): It's the weekend and
for me and my dad,

that means a quiet workshop
with no distractions

to catch up on
some smaller jobs.

Yeah, my father just gave
me a project.

It's gonna be a door
to a mini house.

- It's gonna be a mansion
for me granddaughter, Riana.

This is a kind of
a stress relief for me.

I love the detail of it.

Instead of, uh, having lunch,

I'll work a little bit on
the clapboard and, you know,

do whatever. Little bit of paint
and whatever needs to be done.

This is what I like to do.

- I'd rather be working
on a, you know,

with a big excavator than
a little mini door.

Believe it or not,
it takes a lot more time

to install a mini door
than to do a big door.

(upbeat music)

(Randy): The great thing
about being your own boss,

you can use the shop
for personal projects.

You never get tired
of making stuff.

Custom is what we love to do,
big or small.

We want it to look amazing.
And weekends often turn

into catch up for
our clients as well.

We got a cool kitchen
renovation on the go

in St. John's right now.

Krista's living in a house
at least a hundred years old.

We want to work
with the character,

so we're making
a custom range hood,

and with that custom range hoo,

we're figuring about
putting a shelf,

but we gotta have some way
to hold that shelf up.

So I'm here making a bracket
to kind of hold the shelf.

Even though we got
a tight timeline,

this is what'll make
the kitchen amazing. You

know, you can go in
and buy big-box store stuff,

but when you make something
custom like this,

nobody else is gonna
have that in their house,

´cause I just thought of it.

(upbeat folk music)

After some weekend work
in the shop,

time to kick off the start
of a new work week

with a trip into town,
and continue the work

at Krista's kitchen.

She lives in the most
famous area in St. John's,

Jellybean Row.

No one really knows why
there's so much colour

in this area. Some say
it's to show the sailors

the way home on a foggy day
from the sea.

All I know, it's pretty
special here.

And we want this kitchen
reno to be as well.

Krista's been waiting ten years
to renovate her kitchen

because she didn't really
know where to start,

so she's given me complete
control of this design.

- Oh, cool!

- We discovered a hidden
chimbley on day one,

so we're keeping that.
- Timber!

- But we removed and donated
all the old cabinets,

and we took a hit to the budge,
because we upgraded

the electrical panel
when we changed the layout.

The new layout will be
much better for Krista.

It'll have more storage,
built-in seating,

and a long run of counter
for prep space.

On the stove wall,
there's even more storage,

which is needed.

We got a budget of $30,000
and three weeks to do it.

Krista's making do with
a temp setup,

but time's ticking
to get this done.

Demo is done.

(upbeat music)

- When I found out about Randy
and I knew how much he loved

older homes
and respected the heritage,

that was one of the reasons why
I'm putting my trust in Randy.

I love colour.

You know, that's something
that I did do ten years ago,

is paint the kitchen.
(laughing)

- Thanks for coming.

- Yeah. I can't wait
to see this spot.

- This is the place.
- Awesome!

- I'm here meeting
with Sam and Sasha

to go over the final design.

The layout is finished,
but I needs the finer details,

so I'm gonna leave
that up to Sam and Sasha.

So this is the kitchen,
and hey,

we got it all demoed.
- Oh yeah look at this.

Look at the character in this.
It's so beautiful,

there's so much history in here.

- This was all covered in.
Roll of a dice,

took it all down,
look what we got.

- Krista's really
gonna love that.

- Definitely.
So now we need to know

colour of all the cabinets

and colour of the walls.

That's why we need
your expertise.

- This homeowner is totally
not afraid of colour.

- Hence the green
on the walls, right?

- I know, right?
- So maybe we stick

with the green, but maybe
a little bit more modern,

like a sage green.

- And maybe we can bring
in another colour as well

just to warm it up.
Put something in behind

where the bench is,
just to pop it out a little bit.

- Oh, okay.
- Something different

from the green,
but something complementary.

Maybe doing like a mauve.

Think that with the green
really plays nice together.

- Great idea.
- You're not afraid of colour,

right, Randy?
- No. We are downtown St. John's

in the Jellybean Row,

so we're all about colour
down here.

- If you can't
do it here then...

- Where can you do it?
- Exactly.

- Seeing we got all the colour
figured out,

we took up the old floor,
and because of budget we gotta

keep this subfloor.
We got two options.

White flooring
and we got a dark flooring.

- Okay. I think they both
will go really nicely

with that green palette.
- Mm-hmm. At the end of the day,

I love the richness of the dark.

- Yeah, so do I. Yeah, I think
this is the winner.

- Winner.
- Winner?

- This is it.
- So now we got the flooring

figured out,
this kitchen's really dark.

So we wired in some new
wall sconces,

but we haven't got
the fixtures picked.

- We've got the greens,
we've got the brick...

- ...rich brown floors,
so I think brass

will really play off all
of those finishes really nicely.

- Little bit of a vintage feel.
But again, still modern,

modern vintage.
It's that complete combo.

- Exactly.
- So are we keeping this light?

- Negative.
- Not keeping that light.

That one's gotta go.
(laughing)

- We only got three weeks
to finish this project.

And two weeks for you guys
to find out the lights,

the backsplash, the colours.

- Yes.
- Yeah, we have a lot

of finishes to select.
- For sure.

- I should see you in two weeks
when all this

is put back together.
- I can't wait.

- For you to finish it off.

(Randy): Now that some design
decisions have been made

and some orders placed,
it's time to head back to Brigs

and help out
at my mom's new place.

My dad and I have been
building together

for almost 20 years.

We don't always agree on things
while we're building,

but the end goal is the same:

make it awesome. And that's
what we're gonna do for my mom.

Fun stuff, working
with the old man.

The house has two bedrooms,
one for my mom,

and the other's for the kids
when they visit.

The kitchen and dining area
will be open to the living room

and there will be loads
of space for the family dinners

or just hanging out.

And we got a budget of $200,00,

because we're
building it ourselves.

We're making up
for lost time now.

The outside work is almost don.

We got the roof all shingled.
Nikki did an awesome job

installing the windows,
and Al's helping out

with the siding.
Now for some inside work.

(upbeat music)

We gotta get this done
yesterday.

We were supposed
to be in it by now.

Soon as the concrete went in,

that night, we had a snowstorm.

- Yeah, but when he says big,
it was big.

It was one of our biggest
snowstorms in years.

- And we were kind of stopped.

Ain't moving that.
(laughing)

We had to wait
for the snow to melt.

Other than that,
we had to go shovel.

- Inch and a half.
- Twenty-two and a half?

- Ninety-two and a half.
- Ninety-two and a half.

- We have to get siding done
before we can get the electrical

started, and then plumbing.

So it's all gonna happen
fairly quick.

I think it's six to eight weeks.

I'm sure this fella here now
is gonna say longer.

(Randy): Depends on
what we're doing, who's boss.

Sometimes it's me,
sometimes it's the old man.

More like the old man, probably.

Even though I'm the one
cuttin today,

not nailing.
(Scott): I'm always the boss.

- Yeah, it's always interesting.

It's nice when we're at
the finer stuff than the...

trying to figure
out measurements.

- It's fun
90 percent of the time.

I already cut four.

- Hmm?
- Oops.

(Scott): Measure twice,

And then there's old-school
versus young-school,

and that really causes a bit
of problems here and there.

- So what's the game plan?
- These gonna fit?

- Definitely I like it my way.

Yeah, I don't think
it's gonna fit in.

I was gonna tip it down
all the way on its side,

(Randy): Rainy Mondays.

Hopefully this isn't a sign
of bad luck.

But Nikki and I are going
to take our chances,

and head to town
to Krista's kitchen.

We got to start prepping
the walls for paint

and closing in the door
for the new cabinet layout.

So, after
the electricians came in,

ran all their new wires,
they had to cut a few holes,

so we gotta do some
patch work.

And then we're closing
this doorway,

there's no more exiting
through that door.

- Construction's fun. You never
know what you're gonna get into.

It's like a little puzzle.
You never know what you're gonna

find, or how you're gonna
put it back together.

My husband, Blair and I built
a house a few years back

and we subcontracted it all out,

and I enjoyed the process
and seeing how it came together.

So when I decided to stop
being a stay-at-home mother

and go back to work,
I said, "I'm gonna try that."

(thunder booming)

- Stormy out today.
It's nice to be inside.

But we only got two weeks left,

and we just got the call
that the ferry is shut down.

So our shipment for
all these kitchen cabinets...

Not gonna show up today.
Not gonna show up tomorrow.

Probably gonna be another week.

(Randy): Me and Nikki
are in town at Krista's kitchen

on Jellybean Row,

but the colourful area
ain't so bright today.

The seas are way too rough
for the boat.

I wish Mother Nature
would cut us a break.

Krista needs her kitchen back.

We just got the call
that the ferry is shut down.

So our shipment for
all these kitchen cabinets...

Not gonna show up today.

- We always meets our
timelines, hey, Randy?

- We always hits our timelines.
- We'll get there.

- Even if you gotta work
on a Saturday.

Not much comment there.

- Hey, Saturday maybe
he'll buy us coffee.

to get the wall closed up
for the new layout.

and then we're onto
prime and paint.

We're getting there.

At my place in Brigus,

I got one last
personal project to do:

fix my hundred-year-old shed.

Sheds are a big part
of Newfoundland's history.

Traditionally,
they were built on the water,

so when boats
would come in from sea,

they could offload their catch.

This type of shed
was known as a stage.

The other type
was called a store,

which was a place to store
the fishing gear

or a place to mend the nets.

Nowadays, sheds can be anywher.

And they're turned into
a great place for hanging out

with friends,
having a fish fry,

listen to some music.
That's why I want to save mine.

Nothing beats a shed party.

(upbeat music)

- The shed here is like
an extension to your home.

So, it's a place where
a lot of people entertain

and they have a good time,

because you just don't have
to take care of it

the same as when
you're in your house.

(Randy): I'm glad to have
the help. As they say,

many hands make light work.

- Oh, Randy. I think we got
a bit of a problem over here.

You want to come have a look?

We got a lot of rot
here going on.

- That's ten inches wide,
that one is.

That's a big, big job
trying to replace that sill.

On a hundred-year-old
wooden shed,

you expect some rot, but this
will derail my day big time.

It's like déjà vu
with these old structures.

Cory and Leo's century-old
barn had the same problem.

(whistling)
This whole wall is kind of...

decayed, gone.

We fixed it before,
and we can do it again.

It's worth the extra work.

- I'll put a new
two-by-four plate here.

I'll end up cutting the studs
out back to where they're solid,

and I'll tail a piece down,
and I'll sister a full-length

stud on the side.

- Lucky for me,
Paul loves solving problems.

We want to make sure it's all
upright, good, and safe,

and it's gonna last
for another hundred years.

(upbeat folk music)

- Ugh!

- When you're done being
a rock star,

can I get a measurement?
- Forty-eight inches!

So the easiest solution?
I'm rebuilding the corner

with some new supports
and sills.

And then I can add
new clapboard, and we're done!

and then you can work
your way across.

Now we got a plan,

and I wonder who can help
me out with some overtime.

- I guess maybe I should
ask my old man to help.

- Things are moving ahead
at the kitchen in St. John's.

Nikki and my mom were able
to get the walls painted

before we start the installs.

But even better news...

The boat finally arrived,

so the kitchen cabinets are in,
the flooring is in.

We can start putting this
kitchen back together. Finally!

- Oh, we definitely

need the trolley! Full load!

So to kick off this week,
it's another road trip to town.

Cody's joined me and Nikki
for some extra help.

No, I'm not a big fan

Mondays for me, and I think
for the whole team in general,

if the Monday goes good,

the shipment came in,

because we're under
a big time crunch,

and we don't have
a minute to waste.

We only got three weeks,
and we're already down

a week and a half. We gotta
get this floor installed

so we can get all
the kitchen bases in.

Hopefully it goes together
as good as it looks!

Today, we're using
a laminate floor.

We got a tight timeline
and a very tight budget,

so we went with a click product
as opposed to a nail down.

It's pretty dark.
It'll go with the space.

We should get this done
in no time,

and then we're able to bring in
all the kitchen cabinet bases,

get them installed,
then we're good to go.

Oh, this is gonna be horrible.

So, this is gonna have to be
one of those ones

we gotta do as a full line.

- 'Kay, so you're saying this
gotta click all at one time?

Are you sure about that?

- Yeah. We can't
snap them in after.

Sometimes with the click,
you got a little

different system, and it's
a little bit harder

to go together.

Even though this is misery
to go together,

She never did a floor

like this before, so we're

Back in Brigus
at my mom's brand new house,

the electrical and plumbing
are in, so it's drywall time.

This is a great turning point
in any build,

´cause it's when a construction
site starts looking like a hom.

- It's been quite a journey
to get to this point.

Once you get a roof on,
get it shingled,

get it out of the weather,
that's a big relief.

The look of the place is Randy.
Randy got a great creative mind.

It's in his head, and sometimes
it's a little difficult

to get it out. Sometimes people
think Randy's winging it,

but he's really not.
He have a vision in his head

and he run with it,
and he get it done.

(Randy): Back in St. John's,
it's a big day

for Krista's kitchen. It's time
to install the cabinet boxes.

And I got Paul and Nikki
on site to get it done.

- Good?
- Yeah.

After struggling
with the floor,

I was wondering if we were
gonna get to this point,

but we made it and we're here,
so now we gotta keep

truckin' along and make up
time with this, hopefully.

- We're on such
a tight timeline.

We gotta have the cabinet
bases in,

and then we gotta get
templating for the countertops.

And that all gotta go
bang, bang, bang.

- We'll get total length

of having this kitchen done,
hence why the rush is on today.

(Randy): In St. John's, we're
installing the base cabinets

at Krista's kitchen,
and something is not adding up.

- Hey. How's it going?

- We got a little bit
of a hiccup. We got, uh,

ten-and-a-half feet of cabinet,
go over on a ten foot wall.

- It looks like the cabinet
company got the order wrong.

We're six inches too big

when you add up
all the cabinet bases.

Needs this in place today,

´cause the templater
guy's coming.

- We could be having
a late night.

- We need that templater in,
so come hell or high water,

this is going in today.

- I was thinking about doing
a little bit of a change

in the design.
- You would think we'd be able

to just go to the store
and buy a new one,

but everything is custom order.
And when you say custom order,

it all comes from the mainland,

which is like two or three days,
and hey, we're wintertime.

One windy day,
the boat is shutdown.

Then we're six days behind.

So, we just can't go
to a big-box store

and buy any of these cabinets.

- If we eliminate a cabinet
somewhere on the wall

and expand
in the fireplace piece.

- See if you can figure it out,
get ´em in place.

We need it for templaters.
I gotta bring in the appliances.

Back in Brigus, work continues
at my mom's brand new house.

The drywall's installed,

plaster and prime
in the main areas,

and the last bit of work
being done in the garage.

This house has two bedrooms,
attached garage,

and an open-concept layout.

The kitchen looks out
over the forest,

so you get a cabin
in the woods feel.

I want it to feel like
a retreat for my mom,

so I'm adding a lot
of natural wood features,

including the trim detail
around the windows.

(soft music)

And like all moms,
she insists on helping.

So I'm letting her
stain the new window boxes,

but that's it.

I want this to be a surprise
for her in the end.

- I can't wait to get in.

Every little bit I does
is a step ahead getting in.

The last finishing touches
is all on Randy.

- Over in Bay Roberts,

we're starting to work
on some special projects

for my mom's house.

Al's at the local mill
planing some rough lumber

so we can build the kids'
bed frames

and some spindles
for the staircase.

My mom's house
may be brand new,

but I still want to add
lots of character into it.

So I'm using a lot of natural
wood to warm it up

and give it a special
custom look

for that cabin
in the woods feel.

- Just found it at one
of them old mills that's around,

around this area.
A hundred-odd years old,

and she's still working good.

Another pass probably
on some of it.

That's always the best kind,
so more might need

a little tiny bit more.
That's all.

(Randy): In St. John's,
we're back on Jellybean Row,

and need smooth sailing
to get Krista

into her new kitchen.

We had a setback when a cabinet
was six inches too long.

We couldn't wait for another
shipment from the mainland,

so we cut it down
to fit the space.

Just in time to template
for the counters.

Now, everything
is falling into place.

The kitchen needed a new
layout with more storage.

So we closed off a doorway,
making a wall for extra cabines

and bench seating with storage.

Plus, there's loads
of counter space now too.

Today, it's time to add
some custom cabinets

that my dad made in the shop.

- All right. Just lay
your end down on the floor,

and we'll bring her up straight.
- Kay. Ready?

(Randy): It'll really make
this kitchen stand out,

and I know Nikki's always
keen on learning new tricks

from the old man.

- There you go.

We got a little bit
of a gap between

the chimbley and the leg.

It's either gonna mean taking
this cabinet and shifting it

all over, or putting
a filler in here

just to cover up the gap.

See what it looks like.

- I think that's a better
option. Quicker solution too.

I like it. It's your decision.
If Randy hates it, though,

don't blame me.
- Box kitchens are good

sometimes, but when you
get into special needs,

special design,
that's where we come in.

All right. Just drop yours

custom cabinets and range hood

We promised her she'd be
in by a date,

we're holding true
to our promise.

- So, this spare room
has become the living room

slash temporary kitchen.

Like, the little inconveniences
of not having a sink

to wash dishes, and no one
wants to wash dishes

out of a bathtub. No one.

- We gotta mount two screws
in here.

It's supposed to clip
in here, and two screws

that goes into there.

- Randy would definitely
not read the instructions.

But Scott's got to take
the safe route down

´cause we gotta figure it out

We don't have time

we're trying to meet,

and it's a chain reaction,

If one thing don't run
perfectly smooth,

- In our off time,
we're still building stuff.

I love it. Actually, it don't
even seem like a job.

When you love doing something,
you just do it.

It's perfect.

- We're always doing projects
on the weekends,

not because we have to,
because we want to.

And even though we're a little
like chalk and cheese,

we do some good work together.

Today was a good day.
Me and the old man

managed to get the clapboard on.
We even got it painted.

I still got another
side to do. Shh.

Looks done from the road,
so I'm good.

(upbeat music)

At my mom's house in Brigus,

outside, Nikki and Paul
are finishing up the roof work

and inside, me ,
and Melissa and the kids

are starting a very special
project in the kids' room.

We're gonna be painting
the walls, aren't we?

For Nan.
- No, hand prints!

- Oh, we're gonna be
doing handprints.

- Hey!
- Oh, wow!

Dive right in.
- Do you want to show her?

- Oh.
(Randy laughing)

Almost looks like
a caveman live here.

(laughing)

(Melissa): Come over here too.

Yeah! Now you got
the hang of it!

- So we're gonna get
a new colour.

- Look. Daddy got blue!

- I'm just trying to stay clean.

- High-five for Dad.
Give Daddy a high-five.

(laughing)

- Yeah, I think Nan's
gonna love this. I hope.

Mom and I always talk about
how she wants the kid's room

to be special, so I thought,

"Why not let them decorate it?"

I hope I don't regret it.

Oh! Not the... door.

Oh...(laughing)

Was supposed to be just walls.

Problem is now,
is when we bring them home,

to teach them this is not okay.

And it's in her face,
and in her hair!

(upbeat folk music)

I think Daddy got
a little splash on me.

- So they thought they were
keen getting me with paint.

But I had a quart!
(laughing)

(Randy): Back at the shop,
my dad's ready

to work his magic,
turning lumber

into something really cool.

My mom's place is open-concept
kitchen and living room,

and has two bedrooms,
one for her,

and one for the kids
when they want to sleep over.

I come up with some special
designs for the kids' beds,

and that's what me and my dad
are building today.

- The grandkids, oh I love ´em.

The time I take
with my grandkids,

that's my time off.
That's time I don't even

think about work. I just
think about grandkid stuff.

It's a bit of a challenge.
We're gonna have a little

roof on it.
Randy done a good design,

and it's nice and low
to the floor,

so they won't fall
off and hurt their self.

So yeah, they'll love it.

- Because my mom's house
is taking on a woodsy feel,

I want to do something
really cool for my kids' beds.

- Randy. You want to give me
a hand with this?

- Yes, sir.
- I need to get the rafters in.

- 'Kay.

All right. You good?
- Yeah.

- We're building them
in the shape of little tents,

so when they have
a sleepover at Nan's,

it's like a magical
camping adventure.

- Do you want a job?
Screw them ends on down there.

Let's put these rails on.

- I thought you just
needed me for a lift?

- Yeah, that was only
to get you out here,

´cause I knew
you wouldn't come.

- Yeah, so...

Hey, it's gonna look good.

You throw a sheet over it,

and you got, like,
a little playhouse!

- You're not gonna help anymore?
- I designed it.

I knows what it looks like.

- Back in St. John's,
we're in the final stretch

of finishing Krista's kitchen.

The flooring's in,
the cabinets fit perfect,

and the counters are installed.

We're pulling some long hours
to make up time,

so I still need a favour,
so I'm calling in Jason

to install the backsplash.

- So, here we are again.
Randy called us in

for another time-sensitive job.

Seems like that's
when Randy calls.

It basically is a subway tile.
They're cement,

and we're gonna put ´em
in a brick pattern.

Goes along with
the old brick chimney

that they discovered.

When you put ´em on,
they're different thicknesses...

Which is gonna give it
a real rustic look,

which is gonna suit
this place great.

- With the backsplash installe,
we can move ahead

and finish things up.

(upbeat folk music)

- It's gonna be busy,
and like every finishing job,

you start out with a million,
and before you're done,

you got a million and one.

- And Paul's the guy
to get ´em all done.

Back at the shop in Brigus,

there's something special
I want to make for Krista

and her new kitchen.

- I'm making a sign
for Krista's kitchen.

We usually name houses.

Even though this one is only
the kitchen on the inside,

we still want to personalize it.

So putting a pair of sunglasses
to show her character,

the row houses,
´cause the area we're into.

So I got it all stencilled out.

Now I'm ready
to break out the router.

The router's kind of like
my paint brush.

Even when we're down
to the wire,

I love putting in
an extra bit of work

to really add to
the design details.

I can't wait to show Krista,

and I can't wait to get her
back into her kitchen.

to give Krista her kitchen bac.

She'd been wanting a change
for over ten years,

but didn't know where to begin.

So she gave me $30,000,
and complete control

over the design.

I got Sam and Sasha
getting things ready

before Krista walks in the doo.

- We had so much fun
doing this kitchen.

That high ceiling,

the colours that we got to use.

- Yeah. We definitely had some
fun with these colours,

and we stuck with the green.
She had more of a lime green

previous to the renovation,
and we decided to do something

more of a historic,
heritage green.

- I think people are usually
afraid to use dark colours

in a smaller space. You always
think it's gonna bring it in,

but it technically doesn't.
To me, I find it makes it

a little bit more
dramatic and moody.

- We were really happy
to see that there was brick

behind that drywall.

We wanted to kind of incorporate
that brick-like colour

without bringing in
an aggressive red,

so we decided to go with a nice
dusty rose kind of colour

to really complement the green,
but also complement the brick.

So, a little bit of a nod
to the Jellybean Row houses,

but still classic and timeless.

(upbeat music)

- Feeling good.
Can't wait to show Krista.

She put a lot of trust in me,
you know,

in taking this full kitchen,
full design.

Hopefully she's gonna like it.

She's upstairs waiting
in her temporary kitchen.

Let's bring her down
to her real one.

- Oh, wow!

Holy Moses. This is beautiful.

- Just a little bit.
- Yeah.

- It's a huge change.

- No, not at all.

I, um... I shouldn't
have wore mascara.

Um... I wasn't expecting
this at all.

This is so lovely, but classy.

- I was so worried that
you were gonna wipe me out

completely in my style.
- Oh, no.

We didn't want to lose
your character in this space.

We just took the bright green
and made it a little bit darker.

- I love the green.
This is lovely.

I didn't peek.
It was very hard.

I had no clue I had
that much self-control in me.

And I'm so glad.
This feels like Christmas.

It's so different
with the door gone. It's crazy.

- So, you should actually
find it warmer in here.

- It was a problem.

The heat kept escaping.
- Yeah.

- Like a lot of the guys
I've dated.

(laughing)

Yeah it's really, really,
really lovely.

- You remember we found
this brick in the first day,

popped a hole in there.

- Oh, cool!

- We really wanted to highlight
that, really make it a feature.

Now you got a 150-year-old
brick backsplash.

So when you're standing
at the stove,

or anyone's coming in,
that's the first thing
they're gonna see.

- Oh, absolutely. And it keeps
the character of the house,

which is the reason why
I bought it in the first place.

- It is. You got a lot
of history, got a lot of you.

- Yeah. I'm old.

(laughing)

- I wasn't going down that road.
(laughing)

We made this full custom
range surround,

and my father actually
made these holds.

- That's awesome.

- And to keep in budget,
we did the lowers in a box store

but we made all these
uppers custom in our shop.

- That's what makes it truly
a special place right now.

- And we got plugs on
two of them second shelves.

- I had, like, two plugs
in this whole kitchen

that worked, I think.

- Now you got all kinds
of plugs, all up to code.

- Shocking. Get it?
(laughing)

- We wanted to bring a lot
of colour into this space,

so we did the dark green
around the range,

we did the light green
on the open shelves,

but we did dusty rose
colour underneath,

and we actually brought it over
to your bench wall as well.

So we gave you a little
sitting area,

and even that bench lifts up
for storage underneath.

- Oh, awesome! Thank you.
You knew I needed storage.

- Well, you know,
using the shopping cart...

We maximized on every inch
of this kitchen.

You have storage.
There's cement tiles.

It's really unique
that they're handmade,

because I'm sure
all these bricks were handmade

back in the day too.
- Yeah. That's a really

nice complement.
- It is.

- I love that sink.
- Do you?

- Yeah, I did. Yeah. I do.

(laughing)
Not anymore. But I did.

It's super, super nice.

This is fancy, isn't it?

- Yeah. It's still
a Newfoundland flair, though.

- Well, Newfoundlanders
can be fancy, Randy.

- I know, right?
It's pretty catty!

- It's pretty catty, yeah.

- So, did we do well?

I know you trusted
all this in our hands.

- Hardly any say.
- Hardly any say.

- It was... yeah,
it's all been worth it.

Hundred percent.
- Oh, that's awesome.

Makes us feel good.

- I'm glad this is about
you right now.

- Well, we're always
nervous too!

- Of course!
- Taking this renovation,

and you're gonna live
here every day.

We're gonna go to another build,
but you're gonna come down

every morning,
look at this space.

So you want to make it
feel like it's home.

- It still feels like my home,
it's just a different version,

and now I have a kitchen
that I'm proud of.

This is motivating me
to finish the house

and give it the respect
that it really deserves.

this whole kitchen done

to be able to turn it
back over, and she loved it.

And we kept it colourful.
