Previously on The Great Eight, the top
eight drivers raced at Dragway 42 in

Salem, Ohio for a chance at $10 ,000 and
points for the individual championship.

Murder Nova and Kai Kelly.

Murder Nova was paired up with Kai Kelly
for the second week in a row in round

one and put Kai on the trailer again.

And then beat Robin Roberts in the semis
to secure a spot in the finals for the

second straight week.

Lizzie Mucey advanced to the semis after
Dana Merchant red -lit in round one.

And there were fireworks at the finish
of Lizzie's semifinal race versus

Kayla Morton when her hood scoop blew
off.

I'm surprised they made it that far. Me
too!

This led to a Grade 8 finals between
Murder Nova and Lizzie Mews.

Murder Nova won the second Grade 8 race
in a row and collected 10 points for the

individual championship.

And Murder Nova makes it two in a row!

Now the top eight drivers heading into
Pennsylvania will battle for another $10

,000 and valuable points.

Maple Grove, how y 'all doing today?

We are at Maple Grove Raceway, located
in Pennsylvania.

This track opened its doors in 1962 and
is one of the 10 longest tracks in the

country.

Today, it's hosting the Grade 8.

Here's how it works. If you win the
Grade 8, you get 10 points. Plus, you

get $10 ,000.

If you runner up, you get 7. And if you
make it to the semifinals, you will get

3. Those points go towards an individual
championship that will be worth $100

,000 at the end of the season.

All right, this is the Grade 8 driver's
meeting.

As you can see, though, there are nine
of you in this Grade 8 meeting.

I believe Axeman and Jake, y 'all are
tied.

So are y 'all going to draw a chip out
of the bucket, or are we going to figure

out another way to decide who gets in
the Grade 8?

I'll race. Y 'all are going to race to a
spot off the trailer. I'll race. Okay,

so y 'all are going to race. You don't
get a test pass. The test pass is your

race. Whoever wins that will then be in
the grade eight. All right?

Number one, Nate Saylor and Kai Kelly.

I didn't want to draw Murder Nova
because I felt like he was in our heads.

We reached in there and drew a guy just
as fast as him, and we've beaten Nate

Saylor all year.

So we know he owes us one. So that's one
of them guys you don't want to draw.

Nate, congrats on your win last week, by
the way. Mutational.

Number two, Robin Roberts and Lizzie
Mucey.

Okay. All right.

First round, I end up drawing Robin
Roberts.

Robin, he's been running real good. But
if you look in the grade eight circle,

there is no one you want to draw there.
So I can't really, you have to be on

your A game no matter who you draw.
Number three.

Lizzie, we're not doing that again. No,
we're not.

Murder Nova. We drew Murder Nova. It is
a very tough matchup.

He's won the last two grade eights. And
the last time we lined up, he beat me by

just a smidge.

But the time before that, I beat him by
just a smidge.

My fourth and final pair will be Damon
Merchant versus the winner of the Gates

and Axeman. Oh, wow.

You know who you're racing. Go back to
pits. Get your car turned around. Y 'all

get one test pass except for Axeman and
Gates who are racing.

So how's the chit -throw deal go?

Axeman, you know, I like him. He's one
of my favorites. He's cool as hell.

Straight off the trailer?

Straight off the trailer, left lane.
Left lane. And then whoever wins that

through Damon, fourth pair, left lane.

You guys got a grudge? No, we're racing
for the grade 8 with Axeman off the

trailer. Oh, okay.

Last time we was in the grade 8 was in
Brainerd, Minnesota, and we won it. We

beat Kai.

We beat Axeman, and we beat Giuseppe in
the finals. We won the $10 ,000.

We're here today. We finally had some
struggles. It got us out of the grade

eight, but we're right there back at it.
We was one round away from securing it.

But 50 -50 chance, I feel lucky. I'm
going to go up here and grab it, and

going to come on back and get this thing
down through there.

That's kind of hard, Kevin.

Track look all right?

The track looks good. It's a bit thick.

But it's most body is healing.

My biggest concern is water coming up.

If you go over there, like it's dry, but
you go over there and rub your foot

deep down in it, water comes up.

Dang! It's going to be a... Racing off a
trailer is always the hardest because

you don't know the track.

Use that first pass for all your data.
You can see every bump in the track, see

when the car tried to spin and when it
didn't. But I like the racing off the

trailer. It shows who can get down and
who can't.

Again, folks, this is an off -the
-trailer race for the eighth and final

the Grade 8 class tonight.

All right, so we've got David Gates in
the left lane.

Axeman Larry Roach in the right.

These two drivers tied in points.

Only way to settle it is to race for it.

Axeman takes the win, so he will be

We raced it off the trailer old school

We're going to go the rest of the night,
figure this thing out, be ready for him

tomorrow, so next week we'll be in. So
he'll give us the rest of the night to

our testing and get it lined out with
everything we're doing. And when we go

bed tonight, I feel like we'll be real
confident in the morning for the first

out of the bucket fashion.

I go up there, and I draw last week's
MPK winner.

round, and that's pretty much the end of

nothing comes exactly the way you have

have it. So all the changes we've made

of the old transmission, put it on the
spare.

better. The last race, I was not feeling

so great.

I was sleeping a whole lot.

My treatments really knocked me down on
my feet, but I kept going.

It wasn't the greatest of a race for us
in Ohio, but we're moving on to the next

race. I feel confident. I think the car
is going to make a really good run, so

we can go up there and run our race.

I got Lizzie.

Man, we worry a lot about Lizzie because
she can run really good. She's just

really salty. So she's also really good
on the tree. And so I want to do my job

just right.

She's been killing it. She's won two

She's pretty badass. And then she got a
little bit inconsistent.

So we don't know which Lizzie Musi we're
going to see. But if she runs good,

it's going to be super tough.

first round again. We've been having,

been rough last two races, and I don't

get a little bit faster because

I've won them both, you know. So I don't

know if that's a good thing or a bad
thing right now because in my mind

a lot of pressure on me to go out and do
good again.

Right now we're sitting in fourth.

We're still a long ways behind Kai.

So at this point we have to get points
every grade eight if we're going to

Kai.

I think I, yeah, I do got to be pushed
back.

You know, I'm having a hard time right
now balancing my life, if we're going to

be honest. A lot of people stayed and
tested last week at Dragway 42, and I

would have loved the opportunity to do
that. But, you know, right now I'm

struggling with being a full -time mom
and a full -time racer. And I had to go

home and watch my baby play baseball.
And, you know, if I lose first round

because I made that decision, then so be
it. But I'm doing the best I can.

of experience in this is going to start

we're competitive, but they're starting

to really lay into their.

So all season, Kyle's been killing it

I mean, it's just been heart failure
about every time it takes him out of the

underestimate him because I know he's

have that hot rod turned up to try to
pit me out.

So he did make a good lick in the left

He ought to be used to that lane.

I'm number three. He's about 20 points

ahead of me. So if I can take him out,

When you buy a box of blower belts,
you're supposed to get 12 passes out of

blower at a minimum.

And the first belt we put on, it broke
like seven passes.

The second belt shredded in half at
like... Six passes.

And then that one just broke at nine
passes.

So we're going to take that box of belts
and the whole box because that's

stupid, man.

A $250 belt costs you $10 ,000, you
know.

I really felt like I had an opportunity
to be in the final tonight and then some

dump like that.

So me and Robin, we left out of there.

I didn't see.

My car starts moving to the left just a
little. I tried to correct, but it kept

holding left, left, left.

First time in my life I ever seen the
wall and thought I could drive down it.

So I said, I'm not letting out. Usually
I lift. So I just held my foot on that

floor. And all of a sudden, I felt the
car come back to the right. I said, oh,

we're off the wall.

I come off the throttle. The throttle
was stuck.

I said, oh, man.

I go from one death trap straight to the
next.

I get out, and we had a battle wound
here before, like riding in a trailer.

But then I started looking closer, and
you could tell where it hit the wall.

Here, here, here.

So I actually did hit the wall. I didn't
really think I did.

I can't believe it didn't hit the
headers, though.

As far as we know, we've got to check
out why the throttle is hanging, but

that's part of racing.

Man,

I'm so excited. We've been looking
forward to this. We've been trying to

get in the grade 8 and stay there.

We thought we could win something, but
we could get in, and here we are.

That just happened. I can't believe it,
but it just happened.

Just winning in this grade eight is so
incredibly difficult. There are eight of

the best, eight of your top points.
They're the best, and there's no round

that's easy.

It's hard to get through this deal. It's
just probably the toughest. It's

tougher to win than the Invitational.
You might get a lucky round in the

Invitational. There's no lucky round in
this group, and we just won it.
