So, this is our boat.

- Oh man, Randy.

It has so much potential.
- It do.

- A lot of this is
on us this time.

- I know, tables have turned.

There's a storm coming.

Lord jeez. (Crashing)

This will set me back big time.

I'm Randy spracklin.

Third generation builder,

proud newfoundlander!

My team and I are
building on one giant cliff

in the Atlantic ocean.

They don't call it
the rock for nothing!

We fight the elements year-round

to get the job done.

It might be tough for
some, but not for us.

Because when this is
your view, it's worth it.

(Upbeat music)

Growing up in newfoundland,

the ocean is a part
of our everyday life.

It never gets old watching
the waves crash in.

I love how things really
come to life along the coast

during the spring and summer.

The fishing season opens,

the boy's out on there on
the boats catching squid,

crab, COD.

(Seagulls squawking)

Me and my crew love to
go jigging when we can.

And when the capelin
roll in, things really pick up!

Capelin season is kind of
like construction season for me.

It's busy.

Whether you work
on or off the water,

island life on
the north Atlantic,

it's always an
adventure, for sure.

And I love a good adventure.

And that's why I'm so excited

about the new project
in petty harbour.

(Upbeat music)

It's a fishing village
about 15 minutes

outside St. John's.

We're renovating
a biscuit box house,

which you see a lot of
them around the bay.

A lot of the homes in
petty harbour are built on

or against the banks of the bay.

It's a pretty cool spot

with a lot of
character and history.

But the flip-side,
that could mean

a lot of challenges for us, too.

When the homeowners
bought the place,

they started
renovations right away

and put in a new foundation.

And then they reached out to us.

So, I'm here
now to fix it all up,

make it look brand new.

Good morning, how are ya?
- Randy, how are ya?

- Good!
- Not too bad.

Beautiful day out
here. Nice on the water.

- Not too bad, not too
bad. Always a great view.

- Little bit of a view
behind you now too.

- Oh I know. (Laughing)

Not the prettiest.
Quite the project.

- It's a little bit of work
to get it brand new.

- Yeah.
- But hey, we love a challenge.

- That's right. (Chuckling)

- The real work
is on the inside.

- Like with people.
- I can fix the house.

I'm not sure about people.
- Exactly!

- Let's have a
look on the inside!

(Laughing)

- We'd been looking to
move around petty harbour

and this property came up.
And we loved the location,

and we loved the history
of it, so we leapt at it.

- We want it to feel
like our forever home,

and I want it to just
be full of friends,

and laughter, and
wood fires, and beer.

- And beer.
- Yeah.

- That first step is a doozy!

Yeah.

The house sits at the
bottom of a huge cliff

which is a pretty catty feature,

but inside is gonna
be even cooler.

Liam and Janet got
the foundation started

for the new
addition at the back,

which we're turning
into a mudroom,

living room, laundry,

and a new bathroom.

The original main floor
is all about entertaining,

because this is newfoundland!

It's gonna have a dining area,

new kitchen with a
great view of the harbour,

and the island is
getting a beer tap,

because the homeowner is
a brew master in St. John's.

They got a budget of $250,000

but we're short on time.

They want to get
it done pretty fast

because they're renting a place
down here now in petty harbour,

so you know,

I'm gonna say
three or four months,

but don't hold me to that.

This is gonna be nice.
- Welcome to our sea shack.

(Laughing)

- I can envision it, you know,

once you get all this
mess out of the way.

You did a little bit of work,

kind of make this
full open concept.

It's gonna be a huge space.

Definitely metal
beams, lot of posts.

But hey, you got good
bones. You know?

All the outside looks good.

Framing, the floor joists,
the walls look great.

We'll have to beef
them up a little bit,

but overall, you know what?

We can turn this into something.
- Awesome!

- I know it don't look
that way right now.

(Laughing)
- Oh, I know.

- The job is gonna
be a little bit technical.

You know? It's an old house.

When they built
them back in the day,

they didn't make them
for an open concept.

So, we're gonna have to
support all that second floor,

so that's gonna
be a little bit tricky.

If you think about
it, years ago,

a lot of the carpenters
that built the houses,

built the boats. So if
you're gonna trust yourself

to go 200 mile off
sea to go fishing,

surely enough you're
gonna trust the house.

You know, if you're
not gonna sink,

this ain't gonna blow down.

And that's what we try to do,

is take what we
know of the history

of the way they used
to build, and make sure

all these houses is gonna
last for another 100 years.

- It's the spirit of the people

that built the house, you know?
- It is.

- It's amazing. It's a
connection to the past!

- I see you got the
old floor lifts here,

but we're actually gonna,
you know, take all this out,

pour a new slab.

Oh, look hey! It's an old pick!

- Oh, neat.
- Found a treasure!

(Laughing) I love
treasure hunting!

Can you imagine, years ago,

they dug this
out with this pick?

- I know.
- Are you gonna dig it out

with that pick?
- Uh...

My old man probably
would, but I'm not.

- It is a privilege to be able
to work on a house like that.

Randy senses that as
well, and takes great pride

in the restoration
and the renovation

of such properties to
make them livable again.

- So, this is gonna
be your new kitchen.

What is your vision
like for this kitchen?

- You know,
stainless countertops.

You know, maybe
some old wood as well.

I'm hoping to put a little,
you know, beer cooler

in here somewhere.
- Yeah, we want to have

a little tap in the island.

- And we know someone
that can give us fresh beer.

- Let's just say I'll always
have one of my beers

on tap in this house.
- Yeah.

- I need to get this
kitchen done fast.

I better go get to work.
I wants a fresh beer!

(Randy): With the petty
harbour home signed up,

I'm about to start
another unique project

on the water,
turning an old boat

into a bright party pad!

And on top of that,

we just started a
huge renovation

on an old house in St. John's.

On the main floor, we're
turning the old kitchen

into a music
room for the family,

creating a new kitchen
in the old living room.

It'll have loads of prep space,
storage, new appliances.

It'll be the place
for a kitchen party

when it's all done.

- Hah!
- Demo was off to a great start,

then we found a nasty surprise.

So, in the new
kitchen, this whole wall

is carrying the second
level and carrying the roof.

And look, it's hold
up by one 2x4.

That's it.

Dealing with these old houses

might be a little bit
tricky, but over the years,

after dealing with so much
and working with my father

and them learning, you know,
we all put our heads together,

and we come up with a solution.

So, having a great team

makes a lot of projects
like this a lot easier,

and a lot better too.

So job one right now is
to fix the structural issue.

We got to bring
back all this fill,

and we gotta put
a new concrete wall

with a wooden wall on top.

And that'll support
this whole wall

and the second story.

Today is a busy day.

You know, we got Chris
and Nikki up on the roof.

- Oh, not your first
rodeo, is it? Oh yeah.

- We got Josh
furring out the wall.

And Paul? Well, he's
trying to get the mini inside.

- This'll be the
smallest little thing

I ever sat my (bleep)
On. (Laughing)

Oh, boy. Better than a shovel.

Not much bigger, but better.

Should be alright.
It'll be best kind.

- First, we gotta

We're trying to get that

down an eight-foot hole.

More cons than pros.

Eh, but it gotta be done.

We just do it in style.

bit of wiggle-wiggle

and on through she'll go.

- Oh, easy on the track!

- Oh, wasn't too,
too bad overall.

It was a little bit
nerve-wracking

going along the edge
on all that loose fill,

but, overall, I got it in. I
didn't end up bottom up,

so it was a good job.

- So, he's gonna come in,

and then we're gonna
haul back more fill,

so we can get
down into this hole.

Once we're down here,

we're gonna start
digging out this.

Because we gotta excavate
right the whole length

so we can get a wall
underneath this big beam

that's carrying the house.

(Upbeat music)

- You know, my
favourite part is that mini.

- Oh, not too bad.
What you up to?

- I can't wait till Paul
jumps off so I can jump on.

It's like when
you're a kid again.

You know, you got your
toy trucks and toy diggers.

Now you're just a bigger kid

and playing with
bigger machinery.

For our timeline, it
definitely adds on.

We were hoping to actually
do floor prep this week,

get ready for the plumbers,
get ready for the electricians,

the heating guy.

So, we're gonna be backed
up probably about a week.

Time is ticking, and all I know,

we got four months
to get this done,

and every minute counts.

Boy, some dust there now!

Looking in the dead of fog.

we're in St. John's.

When we were digging,
we made a lot of dust...

which set off the alarm.

We didn't know they had
an alarm for that kind of thing.

So, uh... firemen showed up,

but all good, no fires,

just a little bit of dust.

I'm sure they were
happy for the drive.

- Quite common, so
don't worry about it.

- I would say, yeah.

On top of the huge
job in St. John's,

I'm heading back around the bay

to crack into something
a little different.

We're in CBS, which
is conception bay south,

right here in the
harbour, in the Marina,

so we're here to look at a
boat for Tracy and her friends

to hang out.

Kinda like a she-shed on water.

So, it's gonna be
a special project.

- My girlfriends and I,
we really wanted to have

a place to spend
time and hang out.

I mean, we're in
newfoundland, after all,

and we should have a boat.

And turn it into sort
of a sea-shed, yes.

- You might need to
carry me up this ladder!

(Laughing)

- Sam and Sasha is here
because they also know Tracy.

So, we're just goin'
over the game plan

to find out what we gotta do

so we can make this boat float.

So, this is our boat!
- Oh man, Randy,

- wheels turning
or what? (Laughing)

- Uh, something's turning!

- Well, it ain't the engine,
'cause we're still on land.

Sam and Sasha are two
catty designers from St. John's.

We've done a lot
of projects together,

and just like me,
they love a challenge.

- We're not afraid to
get in and get it done.

- Yeah, put us in,
coach, we're ready to go!

It's a good space. I mean,
the thing that we have

right now, I feel
like, with Sam and I,

is that it's actually
somewhere that they can sit.

So we're gonna
add some textiles,

we're gonna add some
colour, we're gonna add

some of the client's
style into this space.

- And what we're gonna
do out here is really

gonna be showing you
what's gonna be happening

on the inside as well.
- Ah!

Let's go see what
we're actually doing

on the inside, then.
- Okay! Let's see it!

(Randy): The plan is to
keep the layout the same,

because if you put too
much weight on one side,

the boat could tip over.

We don't want that to happen.

So, we're gonna update
the galley with new cabinets,

add a custom table for dining,

and bring in a whole lot
of colour for this sea-shed.

We want to finish
it before summer,

and we've got $15k to do it.

- Oh-hoh! It has
so much potential!

- Yep. (Laughing)

- It do.
- It does, it does.

- That's why I
got you guys here.

- The thing about this
boat is we have to really

think about the size.
So, we need to make sure

it's as functional as possible.

And we have the galley here,

which is the
kitchen of the boat.

So, this space here is huge.

- Well, it's not huge.
- No!

(Laughing)

Okay, we need to make
sure this is so functional.

- Everything has
to have its space,

and everything has
to be secure as well.

When that boat is moving,

everything's gonna
stay in its place.

- Yeah, definitely.
Sounds like a good project

for the old man, actually.
- Your dad's the man.

- Good plan! This is going good.

- I don't know,
Randy. A lot of this

is on us this time!

- I know, the
tables have turned!

- Speaking of tables!

We can do something really cool

with this table here.

- Oh, yeah?
- I'm thinking something

like a 3D map with some, like,

resin and some like,
treasure hidden in here.

- You're gonna put like, a
mermaid and a little boat

so you can drive around
on it. It's like a map!

- You can make a game
out of it on the table!

- He gets it! This is a boat.

We have to think of
functionality differently.

We have to think
about space differently.

And then how we're gonna
incorporate style into a boat.

- Yeah.
- That kind of adds a complexity

but I think that just kind
of makes it more fun for us,

because it's like a little
bit more of a challenge.

- Yep.

- We got a little bit of work.

You got the most work.
- Yes!

- I'm gonna go before
the tables turn again.

(Laughing)
- That's probably a good idea.

- Sam and Sasha, they
have a really great vision

for colours and textures.

With this boat, we're
really looking for it

to stand out.

We don't mind
getting noticed, right?

harbour, it's go-time

for the Reno on this
old biscuit box house.

Now, try and get that out.

First thing, bring
the excavator in

to get the plumbing up to date.

Today, me and
the plumber is here

trying to get the
waterline from the street

into the house.

With the original
main floor of the house

becoming the new kitchen,

there's a lot of plumbing
that needs to be done

before we start anything else.

There was actually
a half-inch waterline,

so we're gonna upgrade
it to a three-quarter.

They'll have way
more water pressure,

good for the sinks, bathtubs,

make it more modernized.

Yeah, Shawn is our plumber,

and we've been doing work
for probably 15 years now

with each other. You know,
he's good at what he do,

we're good at what we do,

he loves old homes
just as much as us,

so it's always solutions.
Never problems.

He's a machine!

(Laughing)

- Hopefully,
everything will go well.

Hopefully, we
don't break nothing.

Keep our fingers crossed.

- Did he say don't
break anything?

(Laughing)

I wouldn't do such a thing!

- Probably try to go down
too much deeper, just in case.

- When you're digging,
you're trying to be

very careful, but I got
a 3,000-pound machine

with forks scraping
across the ground.

It got no mercy!

You never know
what you're gonna hit.

- That's an old
brush, or something.

Wonder how many bed
pans were cleaned with that

years ago.

Yeah, probably go down
another smidgeon deep.

Hope I'm not jinxing

You're just gonna get
off to the foundation,

(Crunching) Oh!

- What?

(Randy): So, we're
in petty harbour today,

and we're looking at
an old biscuit box house.

It's gonna be a tangly one.

- Oh!
- What?

- Heard something crack.

- Me and the plumber's
here trying to get the waterline

from the street into the house.

- Know that sound
of plastic cracking.

(Grunting)

- Uh, we hit a pipe.

We're assuming
that's the sewer line,

but to be honest with
you, we don't know.

That 3000-pound
machine, taking them forks,

scraping across the
ground, you know,

a little plastic pipe

when basically, if
you hit it hard enough,

it would break. So,
I kind of nicked it.

(Upbeat music)

Bloody mess!

- See, you did strike
that copper with the tooth.

You just caught in
it, there's a big rock

jabbed against it too, eh?

Just in case it's live, might
be dead, who knows, eh?

- Where I actually
broke it, was a big rock

right next to it, so
that would've been

another three or four years,

and that would've broke
anyway. So, it's a good thing

we found it. So, a bad
thing turned into a good thing.

- The area that the pipe, sewer
pipe that was damaged now,

there was a couple of existing
repairs made to that pipe

from some time back. So,
we're gonna remove all that,

put one all new piece
in, a couple of new fittings.

How are you at
your gluing skills?

- Best kind, I guess.
- Best kind! Haha!

There's not too much
I haven't seen or done

in plumbing over
the last 31 years,

and I still enjoy it,
and I still look forward

to new challenges every day.

- So, the waterline's ran.

Shawn got the pipe fixed.

Backfill. Excavator and trailer.

Scott gets nervous
sometimes with the trailer,

So today, we're
in conception bay.

Dun, dun, dun! We're
working on a boat.

Now I gotta feel comfortable
knowing I got you with me

at least, because
you keeps me calm.

- I'm only here to show
you, then I'm leaving.

- Yeah, right.

there's a bit of rot.

- Oh, my god.

- What we're gonna do,
we're gonna do something

a little bit different.
We're not gonna beat it up,

because we're gonna keep
this as a template, and uh,

instead of us coming in
here with piece of cardboard

and trying to make a
template, we're gonna take this

back to the shop, and
we're gonna trace out

a new panel just by this one.

- Perfect.

- And we'll do the
same thing with this side.

- So, are you trying to
take this out in one piece?

- No, we'll take it apart.

What do spracklin got us into?

Especially taking it out.
It's always a piece of cake.

- It's not your normal walk
in, take the sledgehammer,

beat it up and
get it out of there.

- The one that Nikki loves.

- It's, Scott's gonna
be patient today,

we're gonna take
our time and do it right

because he needs all the
templates. Other than that,

I'd be like, "smash it up and
get it out!" (Scott laughing)

- First piece of the puzzle.

- Not every day you sees them.

- On boats they use brass screws

because they don't
want them to rust.

Today we use stainless instead.

I worked on a few
boats. Built a couple.

Doing a boat is nothing
like doing a house, of course,

because a house,
you're hoping to have

everything square,
level, and plumb.

- A house is solid, it's
not floating on water either.

- So everything that we
have to worry about here

is movement. You
lay a glass down,

and you need to make sure
it don't slide over the side.

- And knowing
newfoundland winds,

you better make sure
you got it good and secure.

- We don't get no
wind here, do we?

- No b'y. (Laughing)

Easy! (Laughing)

- Sorry!

- Get it out.
- Tip it out.

- Haha! Rookie. (Laughing)

- There we go. Perfect.

That was easy peasy!
- Like a fitter.

It'll be nice when
it's all finished,

and we see the final product.

fastest demo ever.

- Getting everything
from the outside,

putting it inside.

There's a storm coming.

We're used to high
winds in newfoundland,

but a hurricane is
a different beast.

Our company's always on call

to fix any damages from a storm.

So, we gotta be on high alert.

120-kilometre-an-hour
wind is pretty much normal,

but when it gets up
around 160 or more,

then we're up for bad business.

Especially with
renovations on the go.

Petty harbour is
right on the harbour,

right on the coast.
That south wind

that we're supposed
to be getting,

that they're calling for
now is gonna hit straight on.

That one's worrying me a lot

because if we do get 160 plus...

(Whistles) It's
gonna be a bad one.

(Upbeat folk music)

(Ominous music)

(Randy): It's not a
year in newfoundland

without some rough weather.

And we just got
hit by a hurricane,

big enough to do
some serious damage.

The good news is most of
my job sites were spared.

The bad news...

The boat we just started
working on in conception bay south

wasn't spared.

A lot could've gone wrong.

Thankfully, after being
blown off its stands,

the hull wasn't damaged,

so it can still float,

and we can keep working offsite

before it gets put
back on its stands.

(Upbeat folk music)

(Gulls squawking)

In St. John's, we've got
epoxy experts Matt and Doug

working on a custom
piece that's so unique,

even their newfoundland
dog dropkick

has never seen this before.

And he's been
there from the start.

- Right now, Doug's mixing
up the resin and the hardener

to get a good chemical mixture.

When that's done
then, we'll separate it

into separate colours, how
we're gonna do our pour.

So, we'll do a blue and
we'll do a bit of white.

(Doug): So, the inspiration
for this one is essentially,

here we are in
newfoundland, in the cold, dark,

Atlantic ocean, so we
went with those colours,

and we're gonna stick with it.

(Upbeat music)

This is a tabletop epoxy.

What happens is, when
that hits the surface,

you're creating that airflow
and it's dragging back

over the top. So, all
your layers stay the same.

You're just using that
front line in the white

to create the lacing effect
that looks like the waves.

So, right now it's just
an initial base layer.

So all you're doing is
you're creating depth,

so you're gettin' kinda your
deeper tones underneath,

so that when you
put your final layer on,

you're gonna actually
make it look a little more

like the ocean than if it
was just a single layer.

(Upbeat music)

When we have all
our layers laid down

in the gradient that we want,

we use the hairdryer to
basically push our whites

back over the rest of
everything we poured,

because that's what helps
create the lacing that looks like

the foam, or the
bubbles, or what have you.

So, it's all essentially
just surface tension.

- When Sam and
Sasha reached out to us,

we thought it was a great
opportunity to represent

newfoundland and
Atlantic Canada,

and showing that into our art

is a great opportunity.
It's a wonderful project.

(Upbeat folk music)

(Randy): At the Robbins'
house in St. John's,

Paul's getting us ahead
on the new foundation

after the structural setback.

We've got the new
footings in and ready,

so Paul and al can prep
the new foundation wall

that's gonna carry
the whole house.

To make up for lost time,

we're using insulated
concrete forms,

or I. C. F. They come prebuilt,

and we just assemble them
and pour concrete in the middle.

Perfect solution.

- It's like building
blocks for adults!

(Laughing)

They're made from
styrofoam, they're lightweight,

and very strong.

They just click
together and stack up.

You fill them
down to the footing

to hold them in place
and you brace 'em up

to keep 'em straight
until the concrete cures.

And it's nice and strong

other than it's
insulated on both sides.

- Uh, al? Could I get a
2x there for straight edge

to plumb down this joist?
(Al): Sure can, what are ya to?

(Upbeat music)

- The biggest challenge
today will be if we get concrete

to get it in.

With the amount of
concrete it's gonna take

to fill this wall, it's
gonna be too much

to wheelbarrow in.

- Looks good. It's looking good.

(Al): Which side do you
want? The inside, outside one?

(Paul): The side.

- Inside?
- Yeah.

- These are six inches.
- Six?

Randy said he wanted eight-inch.

- Yeah, these are only
six. (Phone dialling tone)

- Hey, Randy. There's
been a mix of an order.

Right, on that icf you ordered.

Is that supposed to be
eight inches inside the form?

Well, I only got six inches.
Like, six inches of concrete.

- So... what's spec'd
for us by the engineer

is that I need to have
eight inches of concrete.

And this is only six-inch.

Right on. Alright, bye.

So, hopefully it's not
gonna be too delayed,

but this delay
now strikes pouring

out of the picture for today,

so, my plan of
booking cement is gone!

It is what it is,

there's not much we
can do about it now.

It already happened.

So main thing is to
keep moving forward.

We're really falling
off the rails here

with all these
structural setbacks.

Finally got our block.

Today, we're back here
again for day two of icf block.

Paula from... who delivered
our blocks this morning,

she's third generation builder,

and she knows all about
deadlines and how it affects,

like, the project
as it goes along.

- Yeah, so Randy
calls the office.

"Paula, I've got the
wrong size block.

The engineers want
the bigger block.

I need it for eight o'clock
tomorrow morning."

So, I'm like
"Randy, the only way

I can get it to you is if
I throw it in my pickup

installing it there now.

by the end of the day.

And we got a foundation wall.

Going over the house?
- Over the house.

- Best kind.

We got a pump truck,
because we gotta actually

take a boom to go
right over the house,

because there's no
way to get a truck in here.

It's just too tight. And
then they're gonna pump it

inside the foundation.

So, hopefully all goes well,

'cause there's
many moving parts,

means there's many problems.

south, we got some good news.

The she-shed for the
sea has been put back

onto its stands after the
storm knocked it over.

Perfect timing, 'cause
the old man finished

the galley cabinets.

- I love the paint.

- They're painted bright
pink for a party vibe,

and they're ready
to be installed.

- The building part is easy.

Making it all fit after
sometimes is not so easy.

(Randy): He built
them in the shop.

Even though they're custom,

there's always tweaking to do.

- Put some levellers
on it just because

I figured uh, it's on a boat.
The floor is not gonna be

close to level or plumb,

so, it's helping
out drastically.

I've never installed pink
cabinets on a boat before.

It's a first for me.

Visually appealing,
as you can see.

Bring on the lemonade.

(Randy): So, this boat went
through a lot of changes,

but the name stayed the same.
And it got to stay the same.

It's bad luck to change
the name on a boat

when it already
comes with a name.

So, they just had a
local artist come in,

paint it all up, freehanded,
so it looks amazing.

Now she's looking
pretty on the outside,

the b'ys can get
'er on the water

and make this
a boat that floats!

- Let's go! Let's get 'er lift!

- Now that it's docked,

it's ready for the long
to-do list for the inside.

Yeah so, we got our
metal beams today.

- Nice, eh? I'd love
that deck. (Laughing)

- Jeez, what a fancy truck!

Today we're here
in petty harbour,

and we gotta get the
metal beams in place

so we can knock out all
them bracing and make

a full open concept.

Then I can get the heating
guy in to run the in-floor heat,

then I can get
the concrete guys.

So, I got Paul, I got
al, and I got Josh.

The addition at the back
of Liam and Janet's house

will give them
more living space,

while the original
house is becoming

one large, open concept
kitchen and dining area.

To make it open concept,

the second story
needs to be supported

by half-a-ton of steel beams

in the main floor ceiling.

We're using metal beams

because we can
go a longer distance

and not so deep. So,
if we had to use wood,

even though we work with
wood, like an lvl or something,

would be massive beams.

So probably be
like 16 inches deep.

We're getting away
with eight inches.

So, a lot better for headroom,

and a lot better for
the homeowners.

- Ready?
- Ready.

- You were almost
gonna pick me up on it!

My legs is getting too short.

- Looks like we got
just enough clearance.

- Mint.
- That won't hook on the way up.

They're heavy, so
having a machine

is gonna make our
lives much easier.

- There we go.

- 'Cause she'll do the
bulk of the grunt work.

- Alright... (Grunting)

- Hope we don't break the lift.

(Al): We have to rise the house.

Try to level up
the floor a little bit

so that when we get up,
the whole beam just sits flush

and then the whole floor
will be level across the top.

It is a risky job.

Just be careful, take
your time, go slow.

Listen all the time.

We're always
listening for cracks.

(Grunting)

- Come on ahead, earle.

(Indistinct chattering)

(Paul): So, we're on the
second beam of today...

- Hold on, Josh.

- and, uh, he turned out
to be a little bit too long.

He's about two
and a half inches.

So, seeing that it's not
a custom metal beam,

we're able to fix it on site,

it's just trim it.

We're gonna get this done
to keep this project moving.

Today's been a pretty good day.

We've got the beams in place,

and just getting the last
couple posts up there now

so things are looking good.

south, the bright party boat

is back in the water so Sam
and Sasha and their team

can start adding all
the finishing touches.

Tracy and her friends want
to keep the original seats

but redo them.

She's on a tight
budget, but luckily,

she's got a good connection.

- I got involved. My
daughter Tracy asked me,

would I be interested
in coming helping her

with a project on a
boat? And I said sure!

I'm going recover the seats,

doing any foam, fabric,

make cushions, whatever
needs to be done.

Foam is always
a little bit bigger

than the covering.

You want it to
have a nice, snug fit.

There we go.

I done upholstery for about,

I'd say 25 years.

Cut, cut, cut, cut, cut.

I like a challenge.
You don't know what

kind of surprises
you're gonna get,

but we'll figure something.
Put a bit of tape on it.

(Chuckling)

When I get this done,

hopefully there's a
big party at the end,

'cause I want to be
pampered a little bit myself.

With all the custom
work and electrical to do,

the 15k budget is tight.

and we're gonna
go vibrant and fun.

Randy brought
us into this project.

He had a bit of work to do,

but this was really on us,

and we really just dove into it.

Paint in there, glitter's
going places, like...

- Totally.

- It's been full on,

and it's not a normal design.

I think people are
gonna be really like,

"well, that's a little bit
of a different design,

but I'm into it."
- Yeah.

Love Scott's pink cabinets.

- I love them! I think
they're so amazing.

That kind of mesh
look with the bright pink.

- He really brought
our design to life.

- Very happy with that.
- Yeah.

- We're actually gonna
use the peel and stick tile.

It's kind of cool,
'cause it's a little bit like,

moveable so we're able
to use it in different ways.

- Exactly. It can kind
of wrap around surfaces

and it's got a
really cool shimmer.

So, my favourite
thing so far with the diy

is the peel and stick.

Although it's not my
favourite thing to do,

to install, it has to be exact,

it can be a little bit annoying.

First one in.
- Love it.

- Now a million
to go. (Laughing)

But all the windows in the boat

and the sunshine
coming in reflective off of it,

it's super cool. So,
that's my favourite.

- Oh, my god! Hi, baby!

Oh my gosh, he's huge.

- My favourite thing I
think is the countertop.

The countertop is so cool!
We have a local company

that's come in and do
it, and they've honestly

just done a beautiful job.

It's something I think
people are gonna want to start

doing on their own
countertops. It's a really cool feel.

I think we're doing really well,

but it's never
over until it's over.

So, who knows? Fingers crossed.

a she-shed by the sea shore.

That's a lot of she's
