All language subtitles for inervista_marta

Hi, my name is Marta Snezek and I'm an
animation director from Dublin.

I have worked in animation for almost 10
years now as a student and as a

professional. I've also made a few short
films.

My graduation film, Small Hours, that
was a mosaic split screen film in 2D.

And then I moved on to some stop -motion
work, such as my funded film,

Nana D.

Then I went on to be animation director
for a film called Rerooted, which was

also stop -motion but out of paper, so
cut -out paper animation.

I have been graciously invited by the
Imaginaria Film Festival team to take

part in the film residency that they do.

This was back in October.

I got to go to Samichela di Bari for a
whole week and I got to work on a

of my choice.

When I arrived in Samichela di Bari, I
walked around on my own with a camera

I just observed. I observed the little
details of the everyday life of the

people living there. I took a walk
around the town, took lots of photos and

went back to the studio.

And I drew some bits and pieces, but
then I realized, do I? I'm missing a few

bits. So I went back for another walk in
the afternoon.

It was 1 p .m.

And I've revisited all the other places
that I went to before.

And they looked completely different.
The shops were closed down. There was no

people on the streets.

Everything was very quiet and peaceful.

This is where I came upon.

the concept of a siesta or what the
locals would call a consola when people

a break in the middle of the day and I
just found that so inspiring and

incredible because this is something
that in Ireland we just do not have

unfortunately. Within half a day of
being in the town I got inspired to make

film about this. The whole film is quite
rough and sketchbooky.

Because I want the perspective to be of
a visitor, not a local.

So it's not through a local's eyes, it's
through a visitor's eyes. I saw many,

many things. Beautiful window frames,
beautiful stairs.

I saw the back of the kitchen and the
chef of the kitchen was taking a smoke

break. I saw a cat coming out of a wall,
having a nap. Just very everyday

life things that I found very beautiful
in this town.

So I try to recreate these places, but
through my own eyes, through my own

style, and showcase the contrast that
happens in the mornings or evenings

during the Controla time.

It's a very short and a very simple
project, but I truly hope that it shows

big of a culture shock that can be for
some people, where you don't realize.

and how it affects everyone in the town
in such a small but big way at the same

time. I want to say thank you to the

this opportunity to do this. So thank
