We've got to figure out who's
gonna make it and who's not.

Right now, we have a lot going
on here at Dominion.

We have Bob running
the Bridge Cut.

We have Sluicifer running
the Golden Mile.

One month into the season,
Parker Schnabel's foreman

Tyson Lee has his hands full.

To hit a 10,000-ounce season
goal, Parker's pushing Tyson to

mine as much gold as possible
on his Dominion Creek claim.

Normally, it's been move
that wash plant, get it set up,

have a month to breathe.

This year, it's move that wash
plant, get it set up,

move to the next.

Get that wash plant set up,
get it running,

move to the next.

And somewhere in between there,
I have to find the time to go

through all these operators,
and one of them isn't gonna

make the cut.

Letting someone go, getting rid
of someone, it's not a decision

I'm taking lightly.

You know, they could have come
up here like myself 10 years

ago, hoping to be up here
for years and years to come.

Just a decade ago,
Tyson arrived in the Yukon.

Pretty green at the mining
aspect of things.

Parker saw something special
in the rookie miner.

[Parker] I'm letting Tyson run
Sluicifer, see what he's got,

and hopefully this doesn't bite
either of us in the ass.

[Tyson] Let's get her going.

And gave him a chance to step
up to the plate.

-[Parker] Nice job.

Back when I first started
for Parker and up until now,

I've seen this company go
through a lot of growth,

a lot of changes.

Every year I get thrown
more and more,

and this year more than ever.

Parker said,
"Find your weakest operator,

send one of them packing."

So right now,
we have Charlie up top who's

doing fine and coarse tailings.

Then we have Michael down below
who's loading trucks,

two new truck drivers.
There's Lauren and Julian.

And then upstream,
we have Kayden loading Mary

and who the [bleep]
is with Mary?

It's a lot of [bleep]
new people, man.

Over at the Bridge Cut...

[high-pitched tone]

Ah, for [bleep] sakes.

New loader operator
Charlie Carleton is struggling

to clear tailings
from wash plant Bob.

Charlie seems to be
having issues

with his loader overheating.

He doesn't understand
when to curl.

Hopefully, it's nothing
too crazy.

-Yo, yo.

[Tyson]
How's it going?

[Charlie] I let it go down
a few more degrees.

It's at 107 now.

So that is caused by two
different issues.

You always want to have
the tires moving when you're

going in for a scoop.
Watch me scoop.

There's zero resistance
against the machine.

If you're going in for a scoop
like this...

see how much the machine
is struggling?

It's making that number climb.

Another thing that does it
is riding the brake.

So if you're riding around
like this...

that number is gonna climb.

Those are the two reasons why

your rear axle oil temp
is rising.

And then what is
a safe temperature

to start running again?

I think it got to about
120, 122.

It really shouldn't get
over 100.

Yeah, 122 is [bleep] hot.

So I'll pay attention to both

We've hired some experienced
guys because we need

Charlie's experience level does
not match what I was told

he had when we hired him.

So how did you get
the job here?

I used to work as a software
developer and systems engineer,

and I'd spend my days in front
of computers, and I was

just sick of it.

And I'm like,
"Man, I need to get out.

Get into gold mining
and get out in the wilderness."

[Sandy] I don't really know
what to say, man.

I'm hoping to be able to get
him to go a bit faster,

'cause he's gonna have
to take care of this on his own.

You're not always gonna get
the best bucket, but you need

more than a crumb.

our whole bucket, it's kind

of just like waste of fuel

They have to train up some

confident will get every last

In the Golden Mile, new hire
Kayden Foote digs out pockets

of pay from a section
of the cut.

I'm a very driven,
motivated person.

I also like to think
of myself as a little bit

of a perfectionist.

I like to do things right
the first time, and I don't

like to come back
and do them again.

[Tyson] We have a lot
of new people, and...

a couple of them are
struggling here.

What we need to do is get

around the cut deeper

and digging channels
to funnel water from the center

exposing the pay dirt beneath.

Makes me wonder what else is

but he is not tired yet.

Cousin Mike is running Tony's

250 yards of pay dirt an hour

I don't have a whole lot

Rick Ness has gone all in
on his biggest gamble yet.

After his water license
on Duncan Creek expired,

Rick's thrown down $700,000
for the Lightning Creek claim,

with no idea how much gold
is in the ground.

It's a hell of a gamble.

I made this purchase based off
of, like, a two-yard test.

Probably more like a yard
and a half, you know?

One pan...

with, you know, a few grams,
not even a gram of gold in it.

It probably is one
of the crazier things

I've ever done.

I'm stubborn like that.

I wanna do things my way,
and that's just how

it's gonna be.

At the end of the day,
if I know the gold's there,

we just have to make

If Rick hits a hotspot on
the notoriously unpredictable

The guys did a great job.

And it should be good.

Rick's crew
has already removed

the two-acre Diamond Cut's
shallow overburden

and 15 feet of pay to make
a stockpile ready to run.

Now, he wants to pull
his 32-foot-wide, 25-ton
wash plant, Rocky,

from its current home,
300 feet along a narrow

and winding track using his
750 excavator, avoiding a bank

on one side and the creek
on the other, then drag it

into position near
his pay pile,

and, finally, fire it up.

[Rick] I just need eyes
around me.

that Tyson's not around

to digging pay

because that's my happy place
in my big sandbox.

At Paradise Hill, Mike Beets
is trying to prove himself
