with every little aspect
of what we're doing.

We can't make any major changes.

being honored this year.

but I was looking
like Dominique Deveraux soon enough.

You know, I-I-I don't know
what it is, you know,

seeing the young girls come in here,

especially the first timers,
to get their hair done.

I-I-I just get so excited for them.

Well, it's a big deal for the guys too.

They take it very seriously.

Especially, learning the formal dance.

Speaking of, how's the spotlight dance
going for you?

Well, I haven't started practicing yet,

but I did watch the choreographer video.

-It's a waltz.

Your father and I danced a waltz
when I was an honoree.

I won't taint the legacy by falling over.

Just one of the other honorees

to the menu changes that I suggested?

And my opinion remains the same.

I know everything on the menu
doesn't pair perfectly

with your wines.

But our local caterers,
they have their specialties

and we need to stick with what works.

or tasting in this case is believing.

Now, what I'd love to do,

I love to bring in some samples from
this little French Bistro that I found.

The vendors we already have under contract

are depending on the checks
from the catering.

but still finds time to help others.

that compels you to look beyond yourself?

Yeah. That's why events like this
are so important.

They remind us of the good being done.

In fact, my parents
co-founded this ball back in '64.

-Really?

During the Civil Rights movement.

It started as just a community
potluck at Christmas.

It was a fun way
to support small businesses

and community leaders

when we really needed to be lifted up.

It's grown more lavish,

but it's always been rooted in charity

and honoring the people out in the street.

It's truly inspiring,
the work that these people do.

And all I ask…

is that you remember that

while we keep working together.

My grandfather started the company.

We're like, three generations in

My roots will always be in Napa

but setting up shop in Atlanta,
it was just, it's a no-brainer.

I mean, I like the food here

the-the art, the history,

it's like a whole
Black cultural experience.

I just, I wanted my company
in the mix of all that.

-It's called Uzuri, right?
-[Lawrence] Mm-hm.

-Am I pronouncing it correctly?

It means beauty in Swahili.

It's actually what my grandfather
would call my grandmother.

He'd always say that their love
strengthened the vines.

-So he was a romantic.

Uh, good. I was able to catch up
on some of the honorees.

You know the grooming van
that you take to different shelters,

that's just, God, Sienna,
it's incredibly kind.

And from that we can actually tell,
the age of the wine,

we can even tell what kind of grapes
were used to make it.

Yeah. Kind of waking up the aromas.

And what do you smell?

he had me work as a sommelier for years,

he wanted to be sure that he could trust

passing the company reins to me.

This is my first official year
in the boss's chair.

I broke away from tradition
when I moved here

but we needed more visibility
if we were gonna last.

You know, brand recognition
is so important.

And it was so difficult in such a,
such a overcrowded industry.

I could totally relate to that.

I'm developing my own hair care line.

And it's just
so many other brands out there.

-The market is too saturated.
-[Lawrence] It is.

And it is really hard
to find ways to stand out.

That's why promoting the wine at the ball

I think is a great way to introduce
this place to the community.

And convince my parents that I'm not
trying to run our company into the ground.

Well, I'm no expert, but you've created
something really beautiful here.
