many times over the years was,

why I wasn't able to see the body

Why was that?

They had told me that I could,

since I hadn't been allowed to see her
at the hospital

They told me to ask the minister
the day of the funeral

He said

"If it were up to me, I would not have
let her be buried in hallowed ground"

What did you think when he said that?

I wondered if she
was even in that coffin

Because I was not allowed to see her

The color drained from their faces

They were pale as corpses

I realized that I caused their reaction

It was our sister

She said, "You're the spitting image
of our late sister"

There must have been a mix-up,
and she had lost her memory

I told her, February 9th, 1941

And then she said,

Lita was also born on that day"

and then we meet in Gullspång in Sweden,
more than 1,000 miles away

The painting on that kitchen wall

was just a coincidence

The fact that it's a still life,

which is what it's called
in the language of art,

made it a better fit for the kitchen
than for the living room

That's why I chose to hang it there

When May started talking about revelations
regarding that painting
