is the first to get his hands

on a brand new hybrid supercar.

They released it.

NARRATOR: And the customer
chooses a special order

vinyl and a wild color scheme.

That's gonna be
real different.

NARRATOR: But a
defect on the wrap--

YANNI: What is that,
in the actual laminate?

NARRATOR: --forces Yanni
to make a tough decision--

It's risky.

NARRATOR: --to pull
off this bold design.

YANNI: This is one of the
brightest cards we've ever done.

[upbeat r&b music]

NARRATOR: It's the
start of a new day.

And the team are waiting for
this morning's imminent arrival.

David Vaughn is a
returning customer

with a unique eye for design.

Yanni wrapped his
last I8 and he's

back again with another one.

This time it's a Roadster.

- David.
- Yeah, yeah.

- How are you?
- How are you doing?

- You well?
- Yeah, really good, mate.

Really good.
Good to see you again.

So you're back again?

Back again, one
without a roof this time.

I haven't seen one before.

No, I haven't.

Yeah, it's definitely
gonna be the first one

that's gonna be wrapped.

I'm not sure about the electric.

How many-- What's the
range on this now?

It's 34 miles.

34 miles.

There are hybrid cars out
there that do 200, 300 miles.

But it's just-- what other
electric car looks like that?

So last time we wrapped your
I8, was it like a matte orange,

I think?

It was a matte orange with
quite a bit of matte black,

yeah.
- OK, and that was pretty bold.

But you know about colors.

Yeah, I know a
bit about colors.

I've obviously run
an office fitout

company for the
last 30-odd years,

so I work with a lot of colors.

I know what I like, so
hopefully this will work.

OK, so what
color are we going?

DAVID: We're going
fluorescent yellow.

Why?

You just drive down the road
and you see so many cars all

looking exactly the same color.

And I just like things
that are different.

That's gonna be
real different.

You only live once,
so I'm gonna enjoy it

while it's a luminous yellow.

OK, well, listen, that's
a great attitude to have.

So am I losing the gloss black?

Yeah, same as the last one.

You lose all the gloss black.

YANNI: It makes my glaze
job a little bit harder,

especially the bonnet,
because you see the shape?

DAVID: Yeah, I mean, it's--

it's an interesting car
to wrap, I would think.

Well, listen, leave
me this absolute beauty.

Wow.

Look at that key.

Yeah, it's a bit of a beast.

YANNI: Brilliant.

Well, listen, David,

NARRATOR: Three years after
the launch of the 2015 Coupe,

this new I8 Roadster is BMW's
convertible hybrid supercar.

Made from carbon fiber and
aluminum, it's light and strong.

The automatic retractable
roof folds in just 16 seconds.

The soft-top I8 also features
stunning butterfly doors.

[upbeat r&b music]

Yanni brings the team
together to reveal

this brand new hybrid Roadster.

YANNI: Ta-da.

MIKE: Lovely.

Absolutely lovely.

This is nice.

YANNI: It does look
good, doesn't it?

Different.
MIKE: Yeah, definitely.

I mean, it's just
changed the whole car.

Right.

Are you ready for the color?

MIKE: Go on.

NARRATOR: We already
wrap this customer's

car in, like, a matte orange
and a matte black in the past.

Cool customer.

This time, he's going
for fluorescent yellow.

MIKE: No way.
- No.

Well, you're gonna see
them coming, that's for sure.

Actually, Boss, you know what?

I'm waiting fluorescent yellow.

[laughs] To me, it looks
like a highlighter pen.

Or you know the guys
that work on the roads

with the high vis jackets?

It's gonna be mad.

So bonnet, Mark, talk to me.

We have to put
cutting tape on it.

So we have to be very
careful, as when I pull

that tape sometimes it goes--

YANNI: Zig zag?
- --zig zag.

MIKE: OK, so a jagged
edge does it, yeah?

YANNI: Yeah.

We definitely don't
want the jagged edge.

So any other problems, Mike?

MIKE: The only
problem at the moment

is the roof, because
obviously the roof

has to be half up for them
to lay and get underneath.

YANNI: OK.

Test that to make sure their
hands don't get caught in there.

MIKE: Golden fingers.

No, no, we'll look after
the golden fingers.

YANNI: Those special hands.

Right.

That's the car.

You strip it.

You guys wrap it.

I'm going upstairs.

Cool.

NARRATOR: Retractable
roofs aren't

designed to sit open
for long, so Mike

performs a 10 minute test.

Happy that the roof is
ready to be wrapped,

he begins stripping
the Roadster.

So I've worked
on quite a few I8s.

It's slightly different.

[tense r&b music]

Kieran?

Can I borrow you, man?

NARRATOR: The wiring
loom on this new car

is different to
the previous model,

so Mike has to
find a workaround.

MIKE: I'm Just trying
to get this wing

mirror off this I8 Roadster.

I did think it was the
same as the normal I8,

but I'm starting to
think differently now.

What?

This mirror's starting to
stress me out a little bit.

Great.

NARRATOR: Mike's
ingenuity pays off

and the strip is back on track.

BERT: Yanni?

NARRATOR: In the office, Bert
has created a mock up of David's

design for the Roadster.

What'd you reckon?

YANNI: I'm not
feeling the bonnet.

I think it should be
the other way around.

I said that initially, but
David's adamant that's the way

he wants it round.

YANNI: I'm not sure
how it's gonna look.

It's definitely
gonna split opinions.

But as long as he's happy,
that's what matters.

Cool.

NARRATOR: The customer wants two
different colors on the Bonnet

with no visible join.

It's now down to Mark and Nicco
to bring the design to life.

This one's gonna be
fluorescent yellow.

And this is gonna
be satin black.

NARRATOR: One of the most
useful tools available to them

is cutting tape.

By laying the tape along the
lines of the bonnet scoop,

they can then slice
through the yellow vinyl

that they lay on top to
reveal the unique shape.

Oh, my days.

Wow.

I told you it makes me dizzy.

It's too much.

It's like glow in the dark.

Oh, my days.

Switch the light off.

This is so bright.

[upbeat pop music]

NARRATOR: As Mark pulls
on the cutting tape,

he's hoping there
are no jagged edges.

All right, let's
see the outcome.

NARRATOR: It's a clean cut.

With the first piece laid
smoothly, they relax a little.

This is your bikini
when you went to Greece?

NICCO: Yeah.

[laughing]

[chuckles]

Oh, not on me.

No.

NARRATOR: With half the
bonnet wrapped, they now

have to lay the satin black.

And there's another
precise cut to pull off.

[whistles]

NARRATOR: The first
two-time panel is complete.

And Mark and Nicco have
achieved the clean lines

the customer is after.

David's I8 Roadster is insane.

People are gonna love
or hate that vehicle.

NARRATOR: The I8
Roadster has a 1.5 liter

twin turbo petrol engine with a
top speed of 155 miles an hour.

Power is boosted further by
a 360 volt electric motor,

meaning this lightweight
all-wheel-drive hybrid

achieves supercar performance.

It's looking up time, but
Mark isn't going home yet.

Mark, one of the wrappers--

NARRATOR: Yanni is always
working on new social media

content with his staff.

A few months ago, he helped
Mark buy his dream car.

YANNI: That's your car, baby.

NARRATOR: And posted the
surprise handover online, which

had over half a million views.

[laughs]

NARRATOR: He likes to
keep it looking its best

for his online followers.

Inspired by Yanni, Mark soon
wrapped his car in chrome blue.

You love cleaning
your car, don't you?

Yeah, of course.

Always.

The chrome just looks amazing.

Yeah, especially
next to your one.

[chuckles]

YANNI: Blue and green, baby.

Standing out like you.

You-- [laughs] I've
trained you well.

MARK 1: I'm thinking,
yeah, I've got silver

and chrome in my interior.

Yeah?

MARK 1: Maybe I want them to do
in gloss black and chrome blue

on a silver bit.

That would look cool.

And then, what, are you gonna
add blue elements to it as well?

MARK 1: Yeah, like
on the chrome bits.

YANNI: Do it.

And you know while
you're cleaning this car,

do you mind as well, please?

- Sure.
- Yeah?

Cheers, baby.

[laughs] Cheers, Mark.

NARRATOR: With the
thumbs up from Yanni,

Mark will order the
vinyl and tackle

his interior when it arrives.

It's a new day.

And the wrappers are straight
to work on the Roadster.

The roof housing will also
be wrapped in two colors.

The satin black is laid
first on the smaller sections

to break up the yellow that will
cover the rest of the panel.

Ordering the right amount
of vinyl is a skill.

Any leftover material
is wasted money.

They have just
enough for the I8.

And they've precut each section.

So this is a little
bit trickier than normal.

[upbeat r&b music]

NARRATOR: Yanni is
keen to see if the Hive

Is Yellow is working.

Bet

I'm not sure.

It's bright.

CHRIS: It's very
bright, but I like it.

I think the more that's
laid, the more we get an idea.

Yeah.

Can you have a look
at this, please, Yan?

Why?

What's wrong?

We've got a little, what looks
like a hair under the laminate.

What is that in
the actual laminate?

That is such an obvious place.

That is on the driver's side.

That is gonna stand
out massively.

NARRATOR: There's no spare
vinyl, as every piece

has already been assigned.

Can you put this anywhere else?

If we can lift it
without any issues,

we've got a bit
that we've already

cut for the front bumper.

NARRATOR: Reusing vinyl
that's already been laid

is always a last
resort for Yanni.

Lifting it could cause it
to stretch and discolor

or even tear.

So in other words, so use
this for the front bumper

and use the bit you've
already cut for this section?

MARK 2: Yeah.

It's risky.

NARRATOR: If they can't
salvage the yellow section,

it will cost Yanni to
order a new material.

And this custom vinyl
has a one-week lead time.

The vinyl is off--

OK, it hasn't ripped.

NARRATOR: --but they're
not out of the woods yet.

The team only have one
shot to relocate the vinyl,

as it won't be possible
to lift it again.

Mark uses the unusual
lines of the bumper

to try and hide the defect.

It's going down OK so far.

NARRATOR: It's looking
good, but Yanni

is watching their every move
and comes across another issue.

So Mark and Chris have
laid the satin black first,

then they've laid the
fluorescent vinyl.

Obviously, we had the
issue with the fluorescent,

so they've managed to save that
and use it on the front bumper.

The problem is where the
fluorescent has touched

the satin black
and been removed,

it's lifted the
satin black as well.

It can't be saved.

So now that needs to
be removed and then

that needs to be rewrapped.

It's actually annoying because
I hate doing things twice.

We've already laid it once.

Now, we've got strip
it and lay it again.

Annoying.

NARRATOR: The Roadster
is parked for the day,

but the workshop isn't closed.

Mark swaps one bright
car for another,

and is working on
his chrome blue S5.

Yeah, what I'm gonna
attempt to do now,

we're gonna try and
remove this bit here.

Because the car is so
new, and the panels

will be really, really brittle.

It feels like it can come off,
but the last thing I want to do

is break it for
the little fella,

because if we broke it for
him, he'll really get upset.

NARRATOR: He's changing
the silver and chrome

parts to gloss black and chrome
blue to match the exterior wrap.

Bob strip order the
silver bits for me.

I feel sorry for my car,
especially when I look inside.

It look so sad.

I think this is
gonna look crazy.

I'm excited.

[upbeat r&b music]

[chuckles] This guy's
car, Look at it, bright.

Hi, Mark.

Hi.

YANNI: Hi, bro.

What do you think?

YANNI: Oh, it looks so good.

I'm really pleased with it.

YANNI: Do you know what
it actually looks like?

Across the center, it looks like
you got, like, LED lighting.

MARK 1: Do you want
me to do yours?

What, my interior?

MARK 1: [laughs] Yeah.

YANNI: No.

[laughs] We'll
leave it with yours.

I don't want people
seeing it on my car

and then everyone wanting
it done to theirs.

So we'll leave it
on yours for now,

but I think it works perfectly.

Chrome outside, chrome inside.

MARK 1: Thanks, Yanni.

[upbeat dance music] Go

NARRATOR: It's a big day for
Yanni, so he's heading in early.

The customer is arriving
to collect his I8 Roadster,

but there's a lot still to do.

Chris is rewrapping
the damaged vinyl.

And Amelia is upstairs
working on the badges.

Go

The badges in the car at
the moment are all blue,

but we're going to change
them to the bright yellow.

Just making sure the finish
line is absolutely on point.

NARRATOR: Yanni knows Amelia
is not only a great wrapper,

but has a keen eye for detail.

So he's put her in charge of the
bespoke elements of the design.

AMELIA: So along
with the badges,

we're changing the
glue on the calipers

to the yellow of the car.

NARRATOR: She starts by
importing a photo of the caliper

into the design software.

So I've taken this photo
of myself with a phone.

But obviously, it's difficult
to get the exact angle.

NARRATOR: She then adds
precise measurements

to the template to
make sure the printed

vinyl will be a perfect fit.

Even something small like
this, it's gotta be perfect.

NARRATOR: As Amelia fits
the brake caliper details,

Mike reassembles the car.

This is where he
really earns his money.

He has to refit every panel
without damaging the fresh wrap

or any of the fixings.

On 3, yeah?

1, 2, 3, go.

NARRATOR: The unique badges
add the finishing touch.

The customer of this I8
has very high expectations,

so Yanni checks over
every detail to make

sure his team have delivered.

YANNI: I'll be honest,
I wasn't too sure

when he chose that color.

Now that I've seen it on
the car, it looks awesome.

A very difficult car
to wrap, and the vinyl

is a lot thicker than usual.

The boys have done
a fantastic job.

I'm really excited
for him to come

down and check it out himself.

I personally love it.

I hope he does the same.

you chose the satin black,

the way you set it
up on the bonnet.

I thought it might have
worked better the other way,

but it really does work.

DAVID: It does work, yeah.

The Bonnet bit, like you
say, bringing that in,

keeping the-- because
the new mirrors on these

have got the indicators on them,
so it's taken it to the end.

It's just perfect.

This will be the talk of the
town, the area, wherever you go.

Everyone's gonna be like,
have you seen the I8 Roadster?

DAVID: Yeah, yeah.

You know, that's what I wanted.

Right, wait there

So I got you a little present.

YANNI: It's a high vis.
