NARRATOR: It's Wednesday morning, and the team assemble.

A customer of mine has just booked his daughter's car in.

Her name is Jolie.

She's a very demanding customer.

YIANNI: Yeah, she's cool.

She's cool, but she knows what she wants.

And she gets what she wants.

She's got a brand new Beetle.

SPEAKER: Right.

It's her birthday present.

I don't know what color she's wrapping it, but knowing her,

it's going to be something very, very out there.

I've drafted you and Andrew, because you're

going to look after this one. - Oh, thanks.

[laughter]

You're going to babysit me.

Who, the client or the staff?

- You're going to babysit both. - OK.

YIANNI: You got this? - Yeah, I got it.

SPEAKER: Sweet.

NARRATOR: Jolie is an A-level student.

She got this car as an early 17th birthday

present from her parents.

Hello.

NARRATOR: And it's been delivered to Yianni

to provide the wrapping.

How are you?

So we've got a car.

JOLIE SHARPE: Yeah Beetle Dune Sport.

YIANNI: Is it brand new?

Yeah, I got it last week as a surprise.

Why are you walking and your car's here?

Haven't turned 17 yet, Yianni.

YIANNI: OK, I'll remove that.

And we're going to get everything else black--

the wheels, top, and the back stripped to break it up a bit.

To break it so it's not so pink.

Well, leave me the car, and she's going

to look totally different.

We should name her.

YIANNI: What do you want to name her?

Or maybe Daisy.

What is a "Petulia?"

NARRATOR: This Beetle is a modern take on the hugely

popular retro design.

Its chunky wheel arches sit atop 18-inch alloys.

There are 10 color choices, but none of them

are loud enough for Jolie.

Yianni wants the car done in three working days

before he flies off to a best mate's wedding on Friday night.

The pressure's on rookie Andrew to make it happen.

[upbeat music]

So here it is, the Beetle Dune Sport.

These Beetles are quite cool.

I remember them when they used to have the flower on the front

and the-- was it the eyelashes?

Oh yeah, the eyelashes.

See, I'm remembering Herbie and stuff

like that, the old school.

YIANNI: Ah, see, we're old.

We get that.

Mike, you're going to be stripping this car.

MIKE: We haven't done one, but there are quite

a few gaps on this vehicle.

So I mean, this rear quarter, it's not as if it's coming off,

and that's very deep.

You have got a little bit of a gap.

We're just going to have to play it by ear.

So it's obviously white, Amelia.

Yeah, shut some returns.

We're going to need to make sure that no white is

showing through because, obviously,

white is such a bright color. YIANNI: Yeah.

OK.

It's the first time we're working on this.

Are you ready for the color?

I feel I really work with this guy, actually.

NARRATOR: Kieran is up first.

He has to tackle the lettering on the side of the car.

[upbeat music]

Mike hasn't stripped this 2018 model before,

but with years of experience, he feels his way around the panels.

So I'm just starting on the front bumper of the Beetle.

And I'm trying to get as much space for the guys

to actually get the vinyl around the panels.

So obviously, they can tuck that vinyl right in,

make it look factory.

[music playing]

As you can see, that is just allowed so much gap

around the headlight and the sides.

So I'm happy with that.

NARRATOR: Success at the front end.

[SINGING] I can pick you up in the plane

Go up and away

I'm going to save the day

NARRATOR: The wrappers also want the rear spoiler removed.

Mike frees the internal screws, but it won't come off.

He discovers it's bonded to the car.

Trying to break the bond could damage

the spoiler or the bodywork.

The wrappers will have to work around it.

[upbeat music]

Upstairs, Yianni is keeping an eye on the CCTV,

watching Andrew, because this is his first time

managing a full wrap.

Andrew is like a like a second Bert They call

him like Bert 2.0, B-Tec Bert.

They take the Mickey out of him.

But to be fair, he's a great guy.

He's been in the industry a little while now.

He's still got a long way to go, but I've

given him this challenge.

[upbeat music]

NARRATOR: Amelia and Chris are the wrap crew on this job.

They're also new to the team and are keen to make their mark

with Andrew and the boss.

They need to pull the pink material down

over this rounded bonnet and work it into the small dip

where the badge sits.

AMELIA: That's enough.

OK, just pull this down, not too much.

But just so--

NARRATOR: Amelia notices a flaw in the vinyl.

It's like a pink.

Almost like a red line here.

Where is it?

OK, so we're going to have to--

in order to pull this over here, we have to lift this up.

NARRATOR: They decide to try and lift the vinyl

and reposition it--

OK, lift it up.

NARRATOR: --to hide the imperfection

under the bonnet badge.

OK, pull that down.

NARRATOR: But vinyl isn't designed to be

frequently laid and lifted.

There is glue marks in it.

It's not perfect, so I don't think

it's going to be all right.

[suspenseful music]

NARRATOR: Nervous that the finish isn't up to scratch,

they call Andrew in.

What up, Andrew?

How's it going?

- Not happy. - Not happy?

What are you not happy with?

You see the glue--

there's a couple of glue marks there.

But you can see the line here where we've-- obviously,

it's been laid, and we've had to pull it up, too.

You can see the line where it's been pulled up.

[puffs]

It just doesn't look perfect.

No, it's a shame because you've managed

to move that red line across.

Hidden the red line, but now we've got some more lines, so.

That to me is wasted.

AMELIA: I know.

ANDREW: So strip the bonnet.

Let's get it rewrapped.

And we'll order some more vinyl. AMELIA: OK.

All right? AMELIA: Yeah.

- Cool. - Cheers, Andrew.

Speak to you in a bit.

NARRATOR: Right now, there's nothing they can do.

The Bonnet rewrap will have to wait until tomorrow because it's

the end of a frustrating day.

[upbeat music]

It's early morning.

Yianni's getting ready for his big weekend.

He drops by his barber's to talk holidays.

- That's my G. - How are you?

- What's going on, bro? - Are you well?

- Good. - What a lovely day, man.

[sighs]

Yeah, what's happening?

[sighs] Mate, I'm so busy, and I'm flying out on the weekend.

I've got a wedding in Marbella.

Whose wedding?

Bali's.

So it's like, it's going to be a monster wedding.

I'm like, I need to get a trim.

But I'm so busy at work.

And I thought, When can I go?

NARRATOR: While Yianni gets a quick trim, back at the unit,

work is already underway on the Beetle.

Chris is in early to catch up on the bonnet wrap.

But Amelia hasn't shown up yet.

Now, back in the office, Yianni waits for her

to arrive and make her excuses.

AMELIA: Morning.

How are you? YIANNI: I'm well.

How are you?

Um, not as well.

ANDREW: What have you done?

I fell over.

You fell on your hands.

Were you drunk?

Yeah.

So what have you actually done?

I can see two of them are tied together.

Yeah, so it's this here, and obviously, that side that's

fractured, this little bone.

NARRATOR: It's Andrew's first gig,

and things aren't going his way.

YIANNI: Let me ask you this.

you rather go home and rest it?

No, I'd rather just go downstairs and give it a go.

so he's been keeping an eye on her all morning.

NARRATOR: He needs to see if she's capable of a day's work.

Chris, I just can't hold the toothbrush in this

to pull back the rubber.

But that will have a knock-on effect for another job, meaning

delays and a drop in profits.

NARRATOR: Yianni is watching every move.

He doesn't want anything to mess up Jolie's

job or his mom's wedding trip.

YIANNI: So I'm keeping an eye on Andrew.

So, so far, he's getting it right.

It's key for me to have strong management.

So if I'm not here, I need to know that my team

have got it set up perfectly.

[upbeat music]

NARRATOR: Luckily, Mikey is stepping

up to keep the job on schedule.

He's an expert in shots and returns.

This isn't the first Beetle the team have wrapped.

Just a few months ago, they revamped a classic bug.

We've done the old beetle version the other day.

Hi, guys.

It's Bert from Yiannimize here.

First car up this week is this thing behind me.

It's a fun cup car, ready for the race series.

As you can see, it's got a few knocks.

NARRATOR: The team rarely work on cars this old,

but the wrap color totally transformed the 1970s Beetle.

It was a really sick wrap.

Not really sure about this, but if the customer really want it,

we're going to deliver it, and we're going to make her happy.

[music playing]

NARRATOR: Deadline day.

Still no Amelia.

Mike is filling in to try and get the car finished,

but the hardest part still lies ahead.

ANDREW: What are you working on?

That's going to be the spoiler. Cool.

I thought this was coming off.

Yeah, that's what I thought as well.

But apparently, it won't.

- Great. - Yeah.

Great.

It's going to be hard.

So I'm going to spend a couple of hours on this.

Couple hours?

Oh, 100%.

Oh, man.

All right, no mistakes.

NARRATOR: Access is very tight for the wrap.

It means progress is painfully slow.

The edge needs to be perfect.

So that's why I'm doing it very slowly, bit by bit,

making sure all the vinyl is cut off.

NARRATOR: It takes two hours, but eventually,

the rear spoiler is finished.

A slam dunk for Mikey.

With the wrap complete, Mike moves in to fit

up this bubblegum pink beauty.

[music playing]

But before the final inspection, Andrew

has arranged for an extra birthday surprise

for Jolie and the boss.

[sighs] Wow.

NARRATOR: Yianni set Andrew a challenge to manage

this wrap from start to finish.

But now it's time for a close-up look.

[suspenseful music]

Mike has actually done a very good job on this.

Not the easiest things to wrap.
