NARRATOR: Tonight on The Voice...
The Knockouts are here.
They've made it
through the blinds and the battles.
This is the final test
before the semifinals.
We're putting our artists
up against each other
in groups of three.
The weakest performer
will be knocked out.
These guys, they're so good.
These guys are insane.
Bella, she can sing anything.
We've got some competition here. (CHUCKLES)
Damn!
Each group is given a theme. Glastonbury music festival.
Yes.
'70s. '80s. '90s.
So, I consider you three my rockers.
Let the Knockouts...
begin!
(SINGERS VOCALISE)
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
That was one of the best performances
we've seen in the entire show.
Any of the great divas would have been happy
with that performance.
(SINGERS VOCALISE)
This is the toughest Knockout we've seen.
There's no-one who I would want to leave behind at this point.
The artists I'll be taking through are...
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Artists that win their Knockouts...
progress to the Showdown...
(SINGERS VOCALISE)
I can only take the top two artists
through to the semifinals.
Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise.
It's Kate Miller-Heidke!
I'm looking for the artist who can really take on my advice
and perform under pressure.
Ronan Keating!
I came here to find someone who could cut it in the industry.
Richard Marx!
This is their chance to show me
they can step up when it counts.
Melanie C!
The semifinals are next.
And I need to know who could go all the way to the end.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Australia, over two electrifying nights
our artists will be singing for a place in The Voice semifinals.
First, they will need to conquer their knockout
to advance to the Sudden Death Showdown.
These artists must give it everything they've got as each team
is whittled down to just two.
Welcome, Australia, to the Knockouts!
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
And keep the applause coming for our superstar coaches.
Richard and Melanie,
tonight it's your teams that are in the spotlight.
So, the pressure's on.
Now, Melanie, you have an extra artist.
I do.
Because you broke the rules at the Battles.
Which means you have a four-way knockout coming tonight, don't you?
I do.
Have you made things a bit harder for yourself?
In all honesty, I'm really pleased
I've made the decisions I have.
It gives me an extra opportunity to see
all of these brilliant artists perform again.
So, it's going to be hard, but I'm going to enjoy it.
Nice.
Kate. Ronan. You guys have got the night off.
Nice.
So, I've organised a little treat for you.
Oh, yeah.
Oh.
I've made a little coach's cocktail.
You read my mind, Sonia, thank you.
Thank you very much.
Look in my eyes. Look in my eyes.
Look into my eyes, into my eyes. OK, lovely.
Buckle up, Australia, for a huge night ahead.
First up, it's Team Melanie C!
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
(UPBEAT MUSIC)
I'm really excited about this group.
(SINGERS VOCALISE)
Meg... Callan...
and Gemma have all brought
creativity and drama
to their performances.
Congratulations! You made it through to the Knockouts.
Yes! Thank you.
Oh, my goodness.
I know I'm biased, but I think that my Battles are the best.
I-I just thought, like all of you, everyone did so brilliantly and,
you know, you and Cassie.
I mean, what a performance that was.
# I'm too perfect
# I could be... #
Yeah!
It's so very, very difficult.
I'm gonna take... Cassie.
Gemma. She'd given such a brilliant performance.
I just wasn't ready to say goodbye.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Oh. Gemma, wait.
Well, hang on. Wait a minute.
I can't let her go. I'm not letting her go.
But you don't have a save.
Ronan's broken the rules.
It's my turn to break the rules.
I feel so lucky to still be here.
I do really want to prove to her
that I can still be in this competition.
And it was a good decision.
So, in this round, I thought it would be really nice
to take some really well-known songs and reimagine them.
I thought it would be really nice
to have more of a dance floor for you,
which obviously for Meg is the world where you live.
Yeah.
Gemma might be a little bit of a challenge.
Something different.
And then I feel like it's a world
that you can totally inhabit as well, Callan.
Yeah.
Meg, your tune is 'Show Me Love'. Robin S.
Oh, my god, I love that song.
I was so happy to get this song, honestly.
It's huge. The vocal is massive.
# A lover that wants to be there
# So, baby if you want me
# Well, you got to show me love. #
I'd really like Meg to work on the smaller parts
of her performance.
I like it when you do kind of hold back a little bit.
OK.
And then, because you've got... the voice is so huge,
it's really nice to...
Turn it down, Meg.
It's a great thing. It's a great thing.
But I think it's just like it's like just that little bit of restraint
and then you can hit them.
I do have a tendency to do everything extra.
I have to remember sometimes to rein it in.
Gemma. Yes.
'California Dreamin', The Mamas & the Papas.
Wow.
Oh, my gosh, I'm so excited.
It's definitely different to what I usually do.
I've never sung over a dance beat before.
# California dreamin'
# On such a winter's day... #
I feel like Gemma needs to work on maintaining her confidence
throughout the song.
There are moments of absolute gold, but when she, like,
wavers a little bit, I can see it.
# On such a winter's day. #
What I don't want to happen
in this is that it's like and this is the end.
Do you know what I mean?
That's what I felt like it got to...
It was almost like because it comes in
so strong and the middle is great.
And then it's like...
And then I'm finishing. Yeah.
Because I feel like we want to finish strong as well.
Yeah I reckon. Do you know what I mean?
Yeah. Yeah.
Hearing Gemma and Meg singing I was like, "Oh, my gosh,
"I've got some very stiff competition."
I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't feeling intimidated.
Right, Callan.
'Spotlight' by Jennifer Hudson.
Oh-oh-hoo.
Which is so, in your wheelhouse.
# Well, I don't like Living under your spotlight
# Just because You think I might... #
When I started running through it,
I started becoming less and less confident
in my ability to pull the song off.
# Spotlight. #
Yeah.
I was feeling overwhelmed.
How am I going to do this?
Are you OK? Do you want to just take a minute?
Yeah.
I could feel like you're getting a bit
overwhelmed with it.
A little bit, yeah. OK.
Babes, don't worry. Can I come and give you a hug?
You got this.
It's so much I get it, I know.
Just a little bit.
Obviously, you have so, got this.
Alright. That's why we're here.
And that's why we have rehearsals.
Yeah? Yeah.
Yeah. OK. OK. Yeah.
OK. Yeah.
He just wants to do well, you know?
He wants to do well, for himself. He wants to do well, for me.
And I know he will.
But it was just that moment of thinking,
"Maybe I can't do this."
This is... It is going to be fabulous.
It's horrible when you've had a bit of a wobble
because it just knocks your confidence, doesn't it?
Yeah.
But that's, you know.
I have to pull it out. I have to pull it out.
Yeah.
This Knockout is going to be tough.
I have to trust myself and trust that my voice is gonna do
what it needs to do.
I know what it's like to lose a Battle,
so, I'm just gonna do everything I can to stay in this competition.
I'm going to fight for this because I want to be here.
And going home for me is not an option.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Singing for competition survival,
it's Meg, Gemma and Callan.
Go! Woo-woo!
(CHEER)
# Now, can you feel me?
# Ooh
# If you're looking for devotion
# Can you?
# Can you show me love now?
Come on!
# Ooh
# Heart breaks and promises
# I've had more than my share
# What I need is somebody
# Who really cares
# I really need a lover
# A lover that wants to be there
# So, baby, if you want me
# I said you've got to show me love
# Because words are too easy to say
# Oh, yeah, You've got to show me love
# I said show me, show me, baby
# Show me, show me, baby
# I say give it to me, Give it to me, give it to me
# L-O-V-E, show it to me now,
# Well, won't you please
# Won't you show me love. #
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
# All the leaves are brown
# The sky is grey
# California Dreamin'
# Oh, on such a winter's day
# Stopped into a church
# I passed along the way
# Way, way, well, I got down on my knees
# And I pretend to pray
# Ooh
# Yeah, yeah, yeah, woo, woo
# California dreamin'...
# On such a winter's day
# Such a winter's day
# Such a winter's day.
# Such a winter's day. #
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
# Well, I don't like
# Living under your spotlight
# Just because you think I might
# Find somebody worthy
# Are you a man who loves
# And cherishes and cares for me?
# And if this is love, Real, real love
# Then I'm staying no doubt
# But if I'm just love's prisoner
# Then I'm bustling off
# No, baby, I don't like,
# Living under your spotlight
# Just because you think I might
# I'll find somebody worthy
# Ooh
# You ought to be Ashamed of yourself
# What the hell do you think You're doing loving me?
# Loving me so wrong
# Open your eyes 'cause, baby,
# I don't like
# Living under your spotlight
# Just because you think I might, yeah
# I'll find somebody worthy
# Ooh, your spotlight. #
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Callan, Gemma and Meg.
Come on down here, Team Melanie C.
Those reimagined classics were on point.
I loved it.
I want to have a look at the shark fan cam, though, because, Meg,
check out your daughter.
There she is. Look at that.
She is into that performance.
We love that.
Now, Kate, you know how the Knockouts work.
So, give me the two names
that you would send through to the Showdown.
I love the energy of that.
I can hear the spirit of Melanie C.
Yeah. So infused in all of this.
I think for me, I feel like Meg,
it was hard for you to get out from behind the decks,
and if it were up to me, I'd be choosing Gemma and Callan.
(CHEER)
Thank you, Kate.
For me, Meg, you're a seasoned pro.
I mean, you just got it.
I know the decks are... you know a part of your...
(CHEER)
Part of your shtick. But I just love your energy.
You know, you really own the stage.
You look so confident.
Gemma, you're only at the start of your career.
You've got so much potential. But we're in the Knockouts.
Before you know it, we're going to be in the semifinals.
So, for me, I think it's Meg and Callan.
I think you guys were awesome.
(CHEER)
Thank you, Ronan. Now, Melanie, decision time.
Which two of these artists
will be going through to the Showdown?
First of all, I want to say congratulations.
What an incredible opening to the show.
Yeah.
Great job.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
The energy and poise that you all came out with,
I'm so proud of you.
You have really taken on board everything we've spoken about.
Um, oh, goodness me.
(CHEER)
OK.
(CHEER)
The two artists that I will be taking
through to the showdown are...
Gemma and Callan.
(CHEER)
Congratulations to Gemma and Callan.
Wow.
We will see you later tonight in your Showdown.
Sadly, Meg, that-that means that your time
here on The Voice ends with us tonight.
This has just been such an incredible experience,
so, thank you.
Loved having you. DJ Meg, we love you.
Thank you.
Put your hands together for Meg. Well done, Meg.
Go, Meg!
Well done.
Thank you. I've loved working with you.
What a way to kick off the Knockouts.
Stay with us, Australia.
More electrifying performances still to come.
Next...
So, this knockout is between my soul singers, Bianka,
Joseph, and Bella.
..Team Richard take to the stage.
(SINGERS VOCALISE)
Yes!
The two artists I'm taking through to the Showdown...
is...
Are you OK, Melanie?
I'm not OK.
# This is The Voice. #
So, this knockout
is between my soul singers Bianka,
Joseph and Bella.
# I feel it in my bones
For Bianka I chose
to 'Call Out My Name'
by the Weekend.
It still kind of blows my mind
that she's only 16.
The challenge now,
is going to be
the believability factor.
I definitely think this song needs the raw emotions,
and because I am so young,
it will be a little bit more difficult to kind of find
where the story is kind of coming from.
And that does scare me a little bit.
For Bella, I chose
a classic Roberta Flack song,
'Killing Me Softly'.
If she can find that place where there's no doubt
that she means every word she's singing, she'll be fine.
There's a lot of meaning within the song,
love, relationships, family, friends.
And so, I think I really need to connect emotionally
and prove that I deserve to be here.
And I really want to be here.
# I feel it in my bones... #
For Joseph,
I chose to use a song
that I wrote with Luther Vandross
called 'Dance With My Father',
which was a very successful song.
It was the song of the year at the Grammys.
Joseph has his work cut out for him
because there's really no big power vocal moment.
He just has to tell this story.
The song really I'm tapping into me as a father.
I'm really, really thinking about my two sons.
Yeah.
This Knockout is not gonna come down to notes
or even vocal talent,
because the three of them are so good.
It's gonna come down to who delivers
the song with the most conviction and authenticity.
(CHEER)
Give it up for Bianka, Joseph and Bella.
Whoo!
# We found each other
# I helped you out of a broken place
# You gave me comfort
# But falling for you was my mistake
# So, call out my name
# When I kiss you so gently
# I want you to stay
# Oh, I want you to stay
# Even though you don't want me
# So, why can't you wait
# Oh, why can't you wait
# 'Til I fall out of love girl
# Call out my. #
Yes!
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
# Back when I was a child
# Before life removed
# All the innocence
# My father would lift me high
# And dance with my mother
# And me and then spin me around
# 'Til I fell asleep
# Then up the stairs He would carry me
# And I knew for sure I was loved
# If I could get another chance
# Another walk
# Another dance with him
# I'd play a song That would never ever end
# How I'd love, love, love
# To dance with my father again
# Yeah
# How I'd love, love, love
# To dance with my father again. #
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Whoo!
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
# I heard he sang a good song
# I heard he had a style
# And so, I came to see him
# And listen for a while... #
Nice.
# And there he was this young boy
# A stranger to my eyes
# Strumming my pain with his fingers
# Singing my life with his words
# Killing me softly, killing me softly
# With his song
# Telling my whole life With his words
# Killing me softly
# With his song. #
(CHEER)
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Make some noise for Bianka, Joseph and Bella.
(CHEER)
Ronan, what would you do?
What a thing to do.
Give one of your artists a song like this.
Huge challenge in front of the man himself and, Joseph, you owned it.
I believed it was your song.
Girls, you were both incredible.
Bianka, you've got tons of moments where you sound like Beyonce.
I don't know if you've ever heard that.
Wow, that's such a big compliment.
It's incredible.
Bella, you've never sung before coming on the show, right?
Ridiculous. You are so talented.
You're so good.
(CHEER)
The artists I'd take through to the showdown
would be Bianka and Joseph.
Kate. What do you think?
Look, I loved that.
God, I love the songs you choose, Richard.
I mean, for me, Joseph has to go through.
That's a no-brainer.
(CHEER)
And look, I mean, I really appreciate what you,
Bianka and Bella, what you did there.
I thought neither of those two performances were perfect for me.
Bianka, you ticked a lot of boxes.
I just didn't quite believe you singing that.
I feel like you're so young.
And I just wanted more from the face and the physicality.
I wanted to feel more pain.
Yeah, but vocally, you're incredible.
Thank you.
So, Richard, three amazing artists.
Only two can go through to the showdown.
Who will they be?
Well, first and foremost, I'm so proud of the three of you.
I'm so proud of you.
Bianka, the gift that you have in that voice, I wish you...
I don't think you even have any idea.
You have such a gift in that voice.
(CHEER)
Bella, you are from another time and place.
You really are.
And no matter.
No matter what time and place that would be, you'd be a star.
Thank you so much.
Thank you.
Joseph, I didn't hesitate to hand you this very precious song
that Luther and I wrote because I knew it would be in good hands.
And you nailed it.
Absolutely nailed it.
Thank you.
The two artists I'm taking through to the showdown...
is Bella and Joseph.
(CHEER)
Congratulations, Joseph and Bella,
you are going through.
You will sing again a little later tonight.
Head on down. Go and get ready.
You don't have a whole lot of time.
Bianka, what would you like to say?
It's just been such a positive experience,
and I've got so much out of it.
And I just want to thank you, Richard,
for just being there every step of the way.
You're the best. Bianka, you're so talented.
Thank you.
Give it up one more time for Bianka!
You can do anything you want to do.
You have such a great career ahead of you.
I promise you.
Next...
There's four of you in this Knockout.
What was I thinking?
Four artists face off.
(SINGERS VOCALISE)
# This is The Voice. #
Welcome back to The Voice.
Now, Melanie, you broke the rules
at the Battles,
bringing an extra artist
through to this round.
There's always one misbehaving coach
on this panel.
So, Naughty Sporty Spice,
I am going to give you
a yellow card.
Alright. Take it. OK. Another one.
Yeah, I have a red card. Don't make me use it.
(LAUGHS)
At the end of this knockout, only two...
How many?
Two. Right.
Only two will go through to the showdown.
Let's see what songs you gave this awesome foursome in mentoring.
(CHEER)
Hi. Hi. Hi, hi. Hello.
Like most things in life, I don't take the easy route.
This Knockout is between Matthias,
Cassie, Euan, and Lilli.
What was I thinking?
There's four of you in this Knockout.
We have a new team member, Euan.
Welcome to team Melanie C.
I saved you in from Team Kate at the Battle.
I think he's worth it. He's really great.
He's got so much more to give.
I'm gonna do it.
Oh!
That means you're mine.
I don't think you expected that, did you?
No. I was very surprised. Yeah.
Nice surprised. Good.
But I was surprised I got saved by a Spice Girl.
That's pretty epic. Yeah.
I guess I have to make sure I live up to that.
Looking at you all, musically, an eclectic bunch.
And what's more eclectic than Glastonbury music festival?
Oh. True.
Yeah. One of my favourite places on earth.
I've been so lucky.
I've played it as a solo artist.
Every genre of music now, is celebrated at Glasto,
so, I've chosen Glastonbury headliners.
Oh, wow. Yeah.
Oh, I just got chills.
So, Cassie. Yeah.
Song is 'You Oughta Know', Alanis Morissette.
Oh, my god.
Yeah? Yes.
That's like one of my favourite songs.
I wish I wrote that song.
# And I'm here to remind you
# Of the mess you left When you went away... #
Cassie. She's so sweet natured.
I think in this song,
there has to be a little bit of abandon.
You're angry, you know,
sometimes you're kind of on the edge of losing it, as Alanis would.
# You oughta know. #
It just kind of lost its angst. Yeah.
Do you know what I mean?
I think it's really important in this performance
to get to the heart of this song.
The angst, the anger.
I mean, I'm a relatively chill person.
(CHUCKLES)
So, like, anger is not really in my nature day to day.
So, I think I've just got to lock in and really get into that,
like frustrated, angry place.
Right. Euan?
Yes, yes, yes?
Crowded House. Oh, wow. Yeah, yeah.
'Fall At Your Feet'.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. OK, great. Yeah. Beautiful song.
Yeah, yeah, I love that song. Yeah.
# The finger of blame Has turned upon itself
# And I'm more than willing To offer my help... #
I just feel that this song can really showcase all the light
and shade that he's got in his voice.
Big, big breaths. They're big phrases.
Yeah.
Let's figure out where you're gonna breathe.
Yeah. Do you know what I mean?
Yeah.
Because your breath is your support.
I have to make sure I don't miss that breath
before the big belt bridge at the end.
Or else all the effort I put into the start of that song
is wasted energy really.
Lilli, I want to go to Charli XCX.
Oh, I love Charli.
Yeah, and I thought 'Apple' would be a fun ride again.
Yay! Yay. (LAUGHS)
(SHRIEKS EXCITEDLY) I feel really happy about that.
Super excited.
I love Charli, she's low key, my look alike.
Some days I'm just repping the Charli side profile.
# I think the apple Is rotten right to the core
# From all the things passed down
# From all the apples coming before
# I split the apple Down symmetrical lines
# And what I find is kind of scary
# And makes me just want to drive
# Drive, drive, Drive, drive, drive. #
There was one section
where Lily lost the energy of the song.
She has to make every second count.
There's a lot to get out,
and it's maybe just be a little bit more
clipped on those words to keep it a bit more succinct as well.
OK. Just to have enough breath.
Oxygen was like "Bye, girl."
Matty. Last but not least. Hi.
I think for you.
Should we return back to Coldplay?
'Viva la Vida'. I'd like that.
Yeah. Oh, yeah, that sounds wicked.
'Viva la Vida'!
I'm just so excited and in my mind,
instantly going to like.
OK, what can we do with this song?
# I used to rule the world
# Seas would rise When I gave the word
# Now, in the morning I sleep alone
# Sweep the streets That I used to own. #
For Matthias, he has to think about
us being able to hear what he's singing.
Some things were kind of running into each other.
I think your challenge on this is to not allow it to get manic.
Yeah. Do you know what I mean?
There's a lot going on, isn't there?
Yeah, don't want to overdo it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
There's loads of words.
Punctuate as well, so, we can hear what all the words are.
This is a very wordy song, and if you muck up your breaths,
you can lose power in what you want to say.
Only two people get through this Knockout,
and I don't want to go home.
(CHUCKLES)
The two artists I will take through from this Knockout round
will be the artists that make me believe
they are headlining that stage at Glastonbury.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Ready to fight for their Showdown spot.
It's Matthias, Lilli, Euan and Cassie.
# I'm really close tonight
# I feel like I am moving inside her
# Lying in the dark
# And I feel like I'm beginning to know her
# Let it go
# I'll be there when you call
# Yeah, whenever I fall
# At your feet
# You let your tears
# Rain down on me
# The finger of blame Has turn upon itself
# And I'm more than willing To offer myself
# Do you want my presence Or need my help
# Who knows where that might lead
# Whenever I fall
# Whenever I fall. #
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Nice.
# I used to rule the world
# Seas would rise
# When I gave the word
# Now, in the morning
# I sleep alone
# Sweep the streets That I used to own
# I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin'
# Roman Cavalry choirs are singin'
# Be my mirror
# My sword and shield
# My missionaries in a foreign field
# For some reason
# I can't explain
# Once you'd gone
# There was never
# Never an honest word
# But that was When I ruled the world
# Whoa
# whoa
# Oh
# Yeah
# Never an honest word
# But that was When I ruled the world. #
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
# I guess the apple don't fall
# Far from the tree
# 'Cause I've been looking at you
# So long now I only see me
# I wanna throw the apple Into the sky
# Feels like you never understand me
# So, I just wanna drive
# To the airport
# The airport
# I wanna know where you go
# When you're feeling alone
# Feeling alone
# Do you?
# I wanna know where you go
# When you're feeling alone
# Feeling alone do you?
# Ooh
# I think the apple's rotten Right to the core
# From all the things passed down
# From all the apples coming before
# Oh
# I split the apple down Symmetrical lines
# And what I find is kinda scary
# Makes me just wanna drive
# Ooh
# Makes me just want to drive. #
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
# I want you to know
# That I'm happy for you
# And I wish nothing but
# The best for you both
# An older version of me
# Is she perverted like me?
# I'm sure she'd make A really excellent mother
# 'Cause the love that you gave
# That we made wasn't able To make it enough for you
# To be open wide
# No
# And every time she speaks her name
# Does she know how you told me
# You'd hold me until you died?
# 'Til you died But you're still alive
# And I'm here
# To remind you
# Of the mess you left When you went away
# It's not fair
# To deny me
# Of the cross I bear That you gave to me
# You you you oughta know
# Went away
# You you you oughta know. #
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Oh, man, that was cool.
Give it up for Matthias, Lilli, Euan and Cassie!
Glastonbury meets The Voice.
It's like festival vibes.
I've never been to a festival.
How uncool am I?
(LAUGHTER)
No way. That was amazing.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
So, Melanie, four artists standing here.
But there are only two
that can go through to the Showdown.
Who will sing again for their spot in the semifinal?
I have to say thank you, all, so much.
And, everybody, you're welcome for being entertained like you were.
So, Matty, you brought it tonight.
You got everybody going in here.
Thank you.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Lilli, I absolutely love what you did with that song.
You keep surprising me.
Euan, I'm so happy that I saved and stole you.
(LAUGHS) Stole.
Thank you.
Absolutely gorgeous. Emotional.
It really touched me that performance.
And then Cassie, like, showstopper.
Thank you.
So, it's hard because there's a lot of diversity up here.
But I think the two artists
that I'll be taking through tonight are...
(CHEER)
# This is The Voice. #
It's hard because
there's a lot of diversity up here,
but I think the two artists
that I'll be taking
through tonight are...
(CHEER)
..Euan and Cassie.
Euan and Cassie.
You guys, congratulations.
Congrats. Thank you!
Head on down.
You can go and get ready backstage because you will be performing
a little bit later on in the Showdown.
Unfortunately, Matty and Lilli,
that means your time on The Voice ends here.
Well, you said unfortunately,
but I'd say this is the most fortunate
I've ever been.
Thank you for turning and picking me,
and yeah, it's been such an honour.
Put your hands together for Lilli and Matty!
So brilliant, well done.
You're brilliant, darling. Thank you.
Good luck with everything, see you later.
Now, tonight, Richard has already put
through Joseph and Bella to the Showdowns.
But who from his group of rockers will take the final two spots?
So, this knockout
is between Jakamo,
my schoolteacher.
Rose, my rocker.
And Chris. We're related.
You could call him
the team member I saved.
Or you can call him the team member I stole from Ronan.
The artist that won this battle is Mitchell.
You can save him.
Ah.
The coach I'll choose is Richard.
I don't care about the whole Ronan thing.
I felt like you and I always had a vibe.
I always felt like we should be working together.
I hope you're as happy to be here as I am to have you on this team.
Absolutely.
Getting saved feels like a new lifeline for me.
I got to prove to Richard that I was worth the save.
So, uh, welcome and congratulations on nailing the Battles.
It's Knockout time. You guys ready for this?
Ready to do it. Let's do it.
I consider you three my rockers.
I grouped these three singers together
because they have edge and grit.
But I just wanted to challenge them vocally and see what else they have.
We know you can rock it out,
but we also need to hear you be vulnerable.
Jakamo, let's start with you.
I picked 'Too Sweet' by Hozier.
Cool.
Have you ever sung that song? You know it?
I've never sung it. I've heard it a lot.
It's a song I'd normally sing in the shower.
It's not one that I've ever thought about singing on a stage
as big as The Voice.
# If you're drunk on life, babe
# I think it's great
# But while in this world
# I think I'll take My whiskey neat. #
Stay in falsetto.
# Neat. #
And a little vibrato at the end.
# Neat. #
There you go. Then you can go back to full voice.
Yeah.
The falsetto is something that I often shy away from.
This is going to be a challenge for you,
but your homework is to really nail that break in your voice.
Yeah.
He's used to just sort of belting it out and rocking it,
but he needs to use all aspects of his voice to get through this.
Rose, the minute I heard you sing in the Blinds, my brain went,
"I can't wait to hear her sing a ballad."
I would love to hear you sing.
'Hello' by Adele.
I think you'll really own it.
Adele is an absolute huge, huge ask.
I am a little bit out of my comfort zone,
and it's challenging me.
It's just such an iconic song.
# It's such A difference between us. #
Hang on one second. Stop. Sorry.
Yeah, let's get that timing.
# It's a difference... #
Rose is struggling with the timing.
She's...she was a little lost.
# And a million miles... #
This isn't a song I would normally sing.
It's such a huge song.
Like, technically and everything. It's really big.
# I must have called A thousand times. #
I don't want it to be comfortable.
I want it to be a little on the edge for you.
Because that's when you...
I think you really shine.
If you're singing the verse and you're not connected to it
or you're just singing notes.
Everybody's going to just tune out.
And by the time you get to the chorus, it'll be too late.
Like, no matter how you nail the chorus,
we've already sort of checked out.
Yeah.
If you're not going to nail it, don't bother.
That's sort of how I feel,
so, I just have to make sure I nail it.
Chris, I picked a song
by Benson Boone called 'In the Stars'.
Oh.
I feel like you're gonna make these two nervous.
We already are.
(LAUGHS)
# Sunday mornings Were your favourite
# I used to meet you down On Wood Creek Road
# Now, you're in the stars And six feet's never... #
Oh, sorry.
Oh, are you OK, buddy?
I feel like you stumbled upon your connection to this.
I lost a good friend of mine three months ago.
He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
Oh. Yeah.
And, um, he was a good music brother.
I'm so sorry, man.
Hanging out, playing music together.
Catching up on Sundays. Every line reminds me of him.
Don't dismiss the emotion that you're feeling
because it's real.
Don't turn it off.
Just let it fuel you. Don't let it stop you.
I feel very vulnerable singing this song.
I just have to manage it when I'm on stage.
The music's not going to stop and wait for me.
# I'm still holding, holding
# Holding on. #
Yeah.
Chris is mourning somebody.
That last performance was really, really powerful.
The challenge for him is going to be...
to use that emotion without letting it take over.
Only two spots left to get into the semifinals.
So, I wish you all the best of luck.
I can't afford to not give it all I got.
I got to prove it to Richard that I was worth the save.
If I was to lose this Knockout, I would be absolutely gutted.
I feel like I have so much left to give,
and I'm really hoping Richard gives me the opportunity to do that.
I think it's going to be really tough.
I'm going to fight really hard and I feel like it's time.
(CHEER)
# This is The Voice. #
Prepare yourself
for an emotional knockout.
It's Jakamo, Rose and Chris.
(CHEER)
# It can't be said
# I'm an early bird
# It's 10:00
# Before I say a word
# Baby I can never tell
# How do you sleep so well?
# Don't you just want to wake up?
# Dark as a lake
# Smelling like a bonfire
# Lost in the haze
# If you're drunk on life, babe
# I think it's great
# But while in this world
# I think I'll take my whiskey neat
# My coffee black in my bed at three
# You're too sweet for me
# Yeah
# You're too sweet for me
# I'll take my whiskey neat
# My coffee black In my bed at three
# You're too sweet for me
# You're too sweet for me. #
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
# Hello
# It's me
# I was wondering
# If after all these years
# You'd like to meet
# There's such a difference
# Between us
# And a million miles
# Hello from the other side
# I must've called a thousand times
# To tell you I'm sorry
# For everything that I've done
# But when I call
# You never seem to be home
# Hello from the outside
# Hello from the outside. #
(CHEER)
# Sunday mornings Were your favourite
# I used to meet you down on Woods
# Creek Road
# You did your hair up Like you were famous
# Even though it's only church Where we were going
# I'm still holding on to everything That's dead and gone
# I don't wanna say goodbye
# 'Cause this one means forever
# And, oh, it hurts so hard
# For a million different reasons
# You took the best of my heart
# And left the rest in pieces
# Whoa, I'm still holding
# Holding, holding on
# I'm still holding
# Holding, holding on
# Oh, it hurts so hard
# For a million different reasons
# You took the best of my heart
# And left the rest in pieces. #
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Yes.
Yes.
Jakamo, Rose and Chris.
(CHEER)
Wow, that was awesome, Kate.
Who do you think deserves to go through to the showdown?
All of them.
I mean...
This is...this is the toughest Knockout we've seen.
100%.
There's no one who I would want to leave behind at this point.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Well, Richard, it all comes down to you.
Which two of your artists won this Knockout?
This is so difficult.
This is absolutely...
Like Kate said, this is the most difficult one.
(YELL)
You know...
one thing I loved watching those performances
and listening to those performances
was it reminded me of why I turned my chair for all three of you.
It was like it was...
There was a magic to all of your voices
and working with you and getting to know you
and challenging you guys has been a joy for me.
So, just so you... just so you've heard it,
I loved all three of those performances
and I adore all three of you.
I am just thinking in terms of going forward
and what is going to be thrown at you,
who I think are the two that might handle it the best.
The two artists I'm taking through to the Showdown...
are Rose and Chris.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Congratulations, Rose and Chris,
you're going through to the Showdown,
so, you will sing again.
We love Jakamo.
What has this experience meant to you?
Oh, this has been unreal.
Thank you. I know I'd hate to be a coach tonight.
It's a very tough decision. Everyone's so great.
So, thank you very much. I appreciate it.
Well done.
Put your hands together for Jakamo.
(CHEER)
I'm sorry, buddy.
That's OK. I'm proud of you, man.
I appreciate it. Thank you so much.
(CHEER)
Coming up after the break, it's our first four-way showdown
where Melanie and Richard must decide
the fate of their artists.
Two will go through to the semis. And two will go home.
Next...
Team Melanie C,
I really want to get through to the next round.
I'm going to give it my all.
If I was to make it through the semifinals,
that would just be out of this world.
I want this so much.
I'm going to give absolutely everything I've got.
I'm not ready to go home.
# The war I started...
# This is The Voice. #
Welcome back to Australia.
Now, earlier, we witnessed
two unforgettable knockouts
from Team Melanie where Cassie,
Callan, Euan and Gemma
earned their spot at this showdown.
Now, they'll take to the stage
for a second time tonight
singing a song of their choice.
This is their last chance to perform for a place in the semifinals.
Let Team Melanie C's Showdown commence!
# I walked across an empty land
# And I knew the pathway
# Like the back of my hand
# Oh, simple thing
# Where have you gone?
# I'm getting old And I need something to rely on
# So, tell me when
# You're gonna let me in
# I'm getting tired
# And I need somewhere to begin
# And if you have a minute Why don't we go
# And talk about it somewhere Only we know?
# And this could be The end of everything
# So, why don't we go
# Somewhere only we know?
# So, why don't we go
# Somewhere only we know? #
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
# Not a word from your lips
# You just took for granted
# That I want to skinny dip
# And no
# A quick hit
# That's your game
# But I'm not a piece of meat
# Stimulate my brain
# Oh, so, come on, baby
# Won't you show some class
# Why do you have to move so fast?
# We don't have to take Our clothes off
# To have a good time
# Oh
# We could dance and party all night
# And drink some cherry wine
# Whoa
# To have a good time
# Oh
# No, we could dance
# And party all night... #
What the...
# And drink some cherry wine. #
(CHEER)
Wow. Wow.
Holy moly.
# You were working as a waitress
# In a cocktail bar
# When I met you
# I picked you out
# I shook up and turned you around
# And turned you into someone new
# Don't
# Don't you want me?
# You know I don't believe you
# When you say That you don't need me
# It's much too late to find that
# You think you've changed your mind
# You'd better change it back
# Or we will both be sorry
# Don't you want me, baby?
# Don't you want me?
# Oh
# Don't you want me, baby?
# Don't you want me?
# Oh
# Ooh. #
Nice.
Nice. That is.
That was badass.
Nice.
That was badass. Yeah.
# Don't you know
# I'm no good for you... #
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
# I've learned to lose
# You can't afford to
# Tore my shirt to stop you bleeding
# But nothing ever stops
# You leaving. #
(CHEER)
# Quiet when I'm coming home
# And I'm on my own
# I could lie and say I like it like that
# I like it like that
# And I could lie and say I like it like that
# Like it like that
# No, I can lie and say I like it like that
# Like it like that
# I can lie and say I like it like that
# Like it like that... #
(CHEER)
# Quiet when I'm coming home
# And I'm on my own. #
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
Oh, Mel, you're in trouble.
Make some noise for Cassie, Callan, Euan and Gemma.
Amazing.
Are you OK, Melanie?
I know you cried the whole way through that.
I'm not OK.
Oh, Mel. Bless you.
Oh, boy.
How can you send anybody home when they sing like that?
I know. I know.
It's ridiculous. It is. It is.
I might have to break the rules again.
That red card.
Oh.
Melanie, I know you hate this part.
Who will be your first semifinalist?
(CHEER)
OK, so first of all,
I want to say congratulations to everyone.
It was an outstanding performance.
I'm so proud of you.
So, the first artist I'll be taking through to the semifinal...
(CHEER)
..is...
Euan.
(CHEER)
Congratulations, Euan.
You are...
Wow. Nice.
..Team Melanie C's first semifinalist.
Thank you so much.
You are in the semifinals of The Voice.
You can head on over to the winners balcony if you like.
Thank you. Thanks, guys. Thanks.
So, Cassie, Callan, and Gemma.
Only one can join Euan in the semifinals.
Melanie.
Who will it be?
So, this is the hardest.
Guys, you got this to come.
I know.
The second artist I want to take through to the semifinals is...
Cassie.
(CHEER)
Cassie, you're going to the semifinals.
Oh, my gosh. Just crazy.
Team Mel, let's go.
Go and join Euan in the winner's balcony.
You should be very proud of yourself.
Unfortunately, for Callan and Gemma, it's the end of the road tonight.
Oh, I just feel so blessed to have had this opportunity.
And, Melanie, you've really done wonders for me.
So, thank you so much.
To get to where I am now, I've grown so much in confidence.
And that comes down to you, Melanie.
So, thank you very much.
Beautiful.
Oh, yeah. Make some noise.
Oh, my heart is broken now.
You're so brilliant.
Thank you, bless you. Thank you.
Thank you.
Next, Team Richard's artists
sing for a semifinal spot.
I have everything riding on this.
You're only as good as your last song.
I just have to give it my best.
Making it to the semifinals would mean the world to me.
I hope I can prove that I deserve to be here.
# This is my time...
# This is The Voice. #
(CHEER)
Welcome back to The Voice.
Now, Joseph, Rose, Chris and Bella
from Team Richard must perform
a make-or-break song
of their choice.
Only two artists
will go through to the semifinals
and two will say farewell for good.
The Showdown starts now.
(CHEER)
# I'm so in love with you
# Whatever you want to do
# It's alright with me
# 'Cause you make me Feel so brand new
# And I want to spend my life With you
# Oh, baby, let's
# Let's stay together
# Loving you when the
# When the times are good or bad
# Happy or sad
# Times are good or bad
# Happy or sad
# Oh
# Let's stay together. #
Aw, yeah.
# Living with my eyes closed
# Going day to day
# Yeah, I never knew the difference
# I never cared either way
# Just looking for a reason
# I'm searching for a sign
# Just reaching out with both hands
# I gotta feel the kick inside
# All fired up
# Fire, fire, fire
# Oh, I believe there comes a time
# When everything just falls in line
# We live and learn From our mistakes
# The deepest cuts Are healed by faith. #
(CHEER)
# Another night slowly closes in
# And I feel so lonely
# I'm going crazy
# I'm losing sleep
# I'm in too far
# I'm in way too deep over you
# I can't believe you're gone
# You were the first You'll be the last
# Wherever you go, I'll be with you
# Whenever you need someone
# To lay your heart and head upon
# Remember, after the fire, After all the rain
# I will be the flame
# I will be the flame. #
(CHEER)
# I put a spell on you... #
Oh.
Wow.
# Because you're mine... #
Whoo!
# Mmm
# You better stop the things you do
# I'll tell you I ain't lying
# I ain't lying
# You know I can't stand it
# You're runnin' around
# You know better, daddy
# I can't stand it 'Cause you put me down
# I put a spell on you
# Because...
# You're mine. #
(CHEER)
Joseph, Rose, Chris, and Bella.
Did you love it?
It was funny because it started off
with Joseph and I went, "Yeah, yeah.
"Definitely, get him in the semifinal."
Then Rose started singing, "Oh, yeah, you got to pick Rose.
"Definitely."
Then Chris, I'm like, "Oh, Jesus, you gotta pick Chris."
And then Bella was like, "Oh, my god,
"what do you do, Richard?"
This is just so difficult.
(LAUGHS) What do you do?
Oh, my god!
Richard, it is time now to announce your first semifinalist.
So, who is it going to be?
I am such a fan of all four of you.
This is really, really, really difficult.
You're such good artists.
The first artist I'm taking to the semifinals...
is you, Bella.
(CHEER)
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much, genuinely.
Congratulations, Bella.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
The belief that you have in me means more than,
you know, so thank you.
Well, we can't wait to see you in the semis.
Bella, why don't you head over to the winner's balcony?
(CHEER)
That means the last remaining semi spot
for Team Richard is between Joseph, Rose, and Chris.
Richard, who will complete your semifinal team?
The second artist I'm taking to the semifinals...
is Joseph.
(CHEERS AND APPLAUSE)
I thank Richard for the opportunity,
and I'm going to work extra hard for you.
I know you are. Joseph, go and celebrate.
We will see you again at the semifinals.
(CHEER)
Sadly, that means, Rose and Chris, we have to say goodbye.
But it's been an incredible ride, hasn't it?
It sure has.
It's been an absolute privilege for me to sing with these guys and,
um, of course, to have mentoring from Richard, too.
Thank you.
(APPLAUSE)
I just want to say thanks.
And I feel like I'm a winner,
because this has always been my dream just to be on this show.
And I made it. Thank you. Thank you.
Yeah. You did.
You brought us so much joy.
Everyone give it up one more time for Rose and Chris.
(CHEER)
You're so great. Thank you.
I told you, I promised you an email.
We're going to hang. Yes.
I promise. You're so good, man.
(CHEER)
Well, Australia, our first four incredible artists
are locked in for The Voice Semifinals.
From Team Richard, it's Bella and Joseph.
And from Team Melanie, Euan and Cassie.
(CHEER)
Next time, Team Ronan and Team Kate
will take to the stage with even more spectacular performances.
Who will make it through and who will be going home?
Another unmissable episode here on The Voice.
Goodnight, Australia.
(CHEER)
# This is The Voice. #
Next time on The Voice,
Team Kate and Team Ronan
take on the Knockouts.
The Knockouts are a bloodbath.
Pretty brutal.
Essentially, you're singing for a spot
in the semifinals.
Which is stressing me out.
(CHUCKLES)
As these artists
fight for a chance...
(SINGERS VOCALISING)
I had goosebumps
when you performed that song.
..to sing for their lives
in the showdowns.
I've never seen you
perform like that.
Ever.
As Kate and Ronan faced
their toughest decision yet...
This is so rough.
I want to take everybody,
but I can't.
Can I?
Wait, are you going to start
changing the rules now.
..with shocking repercussions.
We're going to throw all kinds
of spanners in the works here.
