Thanks. My favorite flavor.

Howdy!

Detective Kane.

So you need, uh, you need deputies sworn in tonight?

Hey, if I do, you'll be the first one I swear in, chap.

Tell me, how's it feel to be out of the sanatorium?

Well, it was spooky at first.

I felt kind of out of place, you know, being crazy and all, but... Tell ice

cream to the public long enough, you realize they're crazier than I am.

So you're adjusting.

Gotta watch your back.

Amaretto.

Flavor of the day.

Hey, how's your Paul?

You know, he was partly responsible for getting me out of that place.

Guess I could thank him.

Yeah. Well, I haven't seen him for a while.

I guess the two of us are giving each other a little space in our

Yeah. Must have done that with my first wife.

How many wives you had, Cap?

Six. All of them staying.

Too bad.

Gotta be a little bit crazy to get by in this life.

Especially on a day like today.

Something in the air.

Heavy.

Yeah.

Kind of one of those snap, crackle, pop days.

Smells like rain, but no rain.

See that?

Not that.

No thunder.

It's like God's wrath.

Man, it's weird.

You be careful out there, Detective.

Something is going to happen on this night.

Hey, without bad guys, I'm out of the job.

Listen, it was great to see you.

Take it easy.

Thanks for the advice.

Okay, Cap's looking after you. See you, Detective.

Thanks for coming by.

No problem.

Yeah.

It's going to be one of those nights.

The grandson of Kwai Chang Kane walks out of the past.

But I want to fight.

So did your great -grandfather when he was your age.

He teaches his son wisdom at a Shaolin temple.

An evil force destroyed that temple. Father and son each believed the other

perished.

Fifteen years later, they were reunited.

Now Kane faced new challenges.

And his son grew up.

Look, I'm not my father. I don't do kung fu. I'm a cop. That's who I am. That's

what I do.

Hold it right there.

Stand up.

Away from the body.

Hands high.

Let me tell you what we got.

We got a very dead guy over in Hale Park.

Officers responding to a call enter the area to find a suspect kneeling over the

deceased going through his pocket.

Suspect has read his rights and taken into custody.

Suspect identified as Kwai Chang Kane, resident of Chinatown, some kind of

priest. Ring a bell? All right.

Get the picture.

What are you doing there, Pop?

Tracking.

Tracking?

Tracking what?

Predator.

You knew this murder was going to happen?

I should have.

Anything else to go on?

Yeah, a couple of guys started the feast. Jim McCarthy at a club called The

Ambrosia at the edge of the park.

Nice long happy hour, hitting on the ladies, running at the mouth.

There won't be a dry eye at the funeral.

People get angry, bar fight.

Nah. But a beef with someone in the club.

Take it outside, spills over into the park.

Guy lands a lucky shot, turns out to be fatal. Guy gets scared, runs away.

That is not the way it happened.

May I see the body?

Suspect wants to see the body.

One minute, we're getting along great.

Then they ask if I do for a living, and boom, sayonara.

Like cutting up dead guys is a bad thing or something?

Well, somebody's got to do it, Nick.

Jeep Cherokee.

What? I can't change jobs, but I can change cars. The lady's like a nice set

wheels, and my old Volvo doesn't cut it.

Bought it for my mom. Got it narrowed down to three.

Jeep Cherokee.

The probe for the two -seater sports car look.

Lexus for the I'm -a -young -professional -on -the -go type thing.

What do you think?

Save it, Nick. We just want to look at the fifth and get out of here.

Great.

Come on, Peter. Help me here. You've got a great car and all the stuff that goes

along with it. Which one?

Nick, come on. Let's just do this.

But gee, you sure?

Jim McCarthy, Caucasian male, 31 years old, 5 '10", 185 pounds.

Had living Yahoo beaten out of him. Closed fists, maybe a blunt instrument.

May I see him?

Sure.

Any physical evidence of the killer?

Surprisingly not.

You'd expect to find something from the other guy. Hair, blood, skin under the

nails, something. I can tell you this. The killer is about the size of the T

-Rex.

From Jurassic Park?

Killer was very tall, was slender.

Yet, she possessed great strength.

She?

Yes. A young woman.

No way.

Absolutely not. There's no way any woman alive did this.

She kissed him.

Kissed him with what, a tire iron?

She was alone and unarmed.

Here's the list.

16 deep contusions on the face and throat, ruptured spleen, shattered

Her perfume still on his body.

Struck on the right side of the face, turning the head 120 degrees, breaking

three vertebrae, C4, 5, and 6, which transected the core.

There will be more killings.

You mean this is a serial killer?

A hunter.

She will feed on our community on Chinatown.

How do you know this?

She... Visited me.

Issued me a challenge.

You will fight me.

I will not fight you.

Then you know the identity of the murderer.

I know her, and yet I do not.

One with their family.

We are inexorably bound together.

In life and in death.

Damn you, priest! You'd rather die than fight. I would rather die than disarm my

bow.

revenge for the blood on your hands.

He is Tan's daughter.

I still can't believe that that's

Tan's daughter.

She is the only human being he ever treasured.

Doesn't make him any less a monster.

Perhaps not.

There was another killing last night.

Four o 'clock in the morning. Found the guy behind the ambrosia club. Beaten to

death just like the first one.

It will not stop till I accept your challenge.

Well, I'm not going to let you do that.

Not without me, anyway.

I figured together, the two of us can stop her from killing any more innocent

victims.

She is my responsibility.

Only my blood will stop this slaughter.

I said we're going to do this together.

As you wish.

But if you are to seek this woman out, you must be very careful.

She is extremely adept at the art of killing.

Sounds like my kind of woman.

I got a few tricks up my sleeve.

You have a plan?

I'll start at the Ambrosia. I'll cruise around till I find a girl who meets your

description.

I gave you no description.

Gave me height, weight, build.

Just a start. I got a picture in my mind.

Should I describe her, boy?

No, I got a better plan.

I'm gonna make her come on to me.

How will you do that?

I will have a very special means of attraction.

When the leopard is on the hunt, what is his greatest asset?

Speed. His stealth.

His nose.

His sense of smell.

To catch the scent of an antelope from miles away.

Observe, Peter.

Look it up.

All things in nature are attuned.

It can attract, repel, anger,

even arouse.

It's got to be irresistible, pun.

Completely irresistible.

And I will eke out her lair.

It is nice to see you, Peter.

Yeah, hi.

May I come in?

Please.

It would be harder to understand the purpose of your visit from a distance.

You must have something here for just about anything.

Well, if that were true, my work would be done.

Yeah.

But people must come to you all the time for one thing or another.

As you have come.

No, no, I'm... Well, sort of.

You are well.

Well, I've never been better.

Loci. Yes?

Um... I need something for... Well, uh... A

woman. A present?

No, no. I need something to get a woman, to get her to like me, to

attract someone.

You find this a difficulty?

No, not really. Sometimes,

yeah, sure, I do.

But this time I'm looking for a woman.

A lover?

A killer.

I see.

She seems to be attacking young guys like me at a certain bar.

You are the bait.

Exactly. You got it.

I can give you such a thing.

It is very old.

Very strong.

Do you see the shell on the table?

Is it not beautiful?

Yes.

Alluring?

I guess.

It may brush your hand in the water and you will die in seconds.

Thank you for telling me.

Remember the shell.

Remember the greatest danger.

Maybe at the heart of the greatest beauty.

All right, what do I do with this?

A drop or two on your neck.

Okay.

Thank you, Lucy.

Thank you. Thank you.

Hey, if this works, maybe we can market it, you know.

Ancient love drops.

Remember, it is very old, very powerful.

One or two drop.

No more.

Two drops.

Two.

Oh, what the heck?

Okay.

I'll get that, sir.

Why don't you mind your own business?

And why don't you get your contacts rinsed? He's looking at me. Ladies,

I wasn't looking at either of you. I just got here, actually. But now that I

have, I will definitely get back to you.

Whoa.

God, you're cute.

Oh, thank you. That makes two of us. Champagne? No, really. It goes right

through my head. Too bad. Did anyone ever tell you you look like Tom Cruise?

tonight. What is in this stuff?

Dolly Clark.

I'm in the book. Oh, God.

Oh, God. I'm in the book, too.

I can't believe it.

Looks like you could use a drink and I'm a bodyguard.

Yeah.

Beer. I'll guard the body.

So, Terry, you still working at the Agrippa Club?

I still am, but you know me. I like to get around a bit.

Listen, Terry, pretend you never saw me before tonight, okay? You got it. One

beer. Coming up.

The struggle is between you and me.

No one else.

You.

I've never seen anyone make an entrance quite like that before.

Well, it must be my lucky night.

Or mine.

It's crowded tonight.

Every night.

I've never seen you here before.

Ah, first time.

Looks like fun.

Poor lonely place to watch live.

My name's Zia.

Peter.

Well, now that you've introduced yourself, Peter, I daren't leave or

beautiful young women would stab me in the back.

Can I buy you a drink?

Why not?

The hunter has become the hunted.

She follows.

The sign of Wu, the sorceress.

Heard from the Tao, yet using its power.

Her eye sees only the darkness.

And mine sees only the shame.

of your lives. Is that an N?

It is a great dilemma.

You must be permitted to accept this challenge.

The permission can only come from the one who took

my... Grandfather's sacred oath.

The oath that was passed to my father.

And thence to me.

I am the old master, long dead.

Master Poe.

It is he who must give absolution.

I fear.

not make this journey.

You can.

You of all men can.

What's that cologne you're wearing?

It's powerful.

Ancient love drops.

Just on the market.

So, what do you do, Peter?

Actually, I'm in between jobs right now.

Oh, don't tell me.

You're an actor.

No. Isn't that what they always say?

Too flashy.

I'm studying to be an architect.

What about you?

Oh, I own my own corporation.

Worldwide Computers.

Does that surprise you?

Yeah. Why?

Because I'm a woman?

Or because I'm in here?

Both.

I inherited it from my father.

I lost him recently.

Do you know that feeling to lose someone that you love so much?

Yes.

I thought I'd lost my father, too.

But you found him again?

Yes, I did.

Hey.

I'm all right. I just get nervous talking about death.

There were two murders here recently.

Did you hear about them?

Well, I don't read the headlines anymore.

Too depressing.

Maybe I should be leaving.

Listen, I could give you a ride home. No strings attached.

Contrary to my entrance, I would be a very safe chaperone.

I live pretty close, I can walk.

All right.

But I still could use the company.

And anyway, who says I want a safe chaperone?

Through your past.

Relive each moment.

Feel each one of them with your soul.

Slowly, my friend.

Come.

Come to me.

Come.

Now die.

Concentrate.

Remember the serenity of those days.

Tell me again about my mother.

Go back further.

Now, cry Jane Kane, make the transition to your grandfather's

time.

Walk in his shoes.

Become part of his existence.

What do you look for beyond the sea, grasshopper?

That part of me which I know little of.

The past out of which I was born.

Then someday you must seek it.

Is it good to seek the past, Master Poe?

Does it not rob the present?

If a man dwells on the past, then he robs the present.

But if a man ignores the past, he may rob the future.

The seeds of our destiny are nurtured by the roots of our past.

I can.

I cannot make contact.

You can.

Go back.

Concentrate.

I am there.

Why, Jankane, you have traveled far to seek out an old man, yet you know

about him, Brasshopper.

I pray it will not disown me, Master.

It will not?

What troubles you?

I have killed him.

And the great evil now has a daughter.

It's vengeance.

Vengeance is a water vessel with a hole.

It carries nothing but the promise of emptiness.

Yet, this daughter will not rest until she has repaid this injury.

What must I do?

Repay injury with justice and forgiveness, but kindness, always with

kindness.

Travel safely.

Bye,

Manager Paul.

You make your journey?

Yes.

And return from it.

I was not sure you would be able to do that.

You received a solution, you thought?

My master Poe gave me something.

That was... It was something I've been wanting to do ever since I sat next to

you in the club.

What's the matter?

Didn't you like it?

I was just wondering if that's how you kiss the others.

The others?

The two men you murdered.

God, are you crazy?

Are you drunk?

Why do you feel you have to fight my father?

Is it revenge or is there more?

Your father?

Peter, stop it. You're scaring me. Who's your father?

Your father's mortal enemy.

Tan's death mark.

It's tattoo.

Too bad we could have had some fun before you died.

Now... You can't kill me here.

Someone will see.

Then let's hide.

Now we're alone.

Except for one.

Welcome, Shaolin.

Always so formal, so correct.

It is proper to honor one's enemy.

Oh, we're making progress, priest. You recognize me as your enemy.

This I have always known.

And I have always known from the moment I first came to you that you would

eventually have to face me.

I have come for my son.

Then take him.

He's dying, Shaolin.

Peter, do not fight this.

Stay where you are.

Is this what you desired?

To demonstrate your magic trick?

Take care, Kane.

Some things are illusions. Some are not.

Remember the man in Chinatown.

I will kill the boy.

easily overcome.

Are you so frightened of combat you can only mock your opponent?

The opponent has not made combat.

She prefers to play the conjurer in the game.

Before when?

To confuse.

To distract.

To cause the enemy to expect attack from one direction.

And yet, have the attack come from another.

You cannot attack what you cannot see.

else he was, bought harm with honor.

Too bad this didn't work out for us.

I'll call it in.

You were nothing.

You are a liar.

I curse you, Prince.

To be damned by the devil is to be truly blessed.

So at no time did Detective Kane let you know he was an undercover police

officer? No, sir.

And once outside the park, where Detective Kane was walking you home,

what happened?

Well, a mist came up very fast, and I became disoriented.

And then?

And then what happened?

And then he attacked me.

He tore my dress.

I was so terrified.

And then another man came out of the mist.

He said it was his father.

I tried to defend myself, but they were both so much stronger, and I'm sorry,

I'm... Take your time. See ya.

We all know how difficult this is for you.

I put up as much of a fight as I could.

But I was so dazed.

The younger one, he put the handcuffs on me.

He said... He said he knew I wanted that.

And that now it was going to be fun.

Take your time. See ya.

Look at the jurors' faces.

They're buying every word of it.

She can't walk out of here.

I'd say that's exactly what she's going to do.

That's right.

You better hope they're not going to bring down an indictment against you.

So you had absolutely no idea that you were a suspect in a police sting

operation? I had no idea at all.

If indeed there was.

A police sting operation.

Thank you, Zia.

I would suggest to the ladies and gentlemen of this jury that the entire

undercover police operation is a cover -up for a blatant sexual assault.

There is no past history here.

Zia, you had never known Mr. Kane or his father before that night.

I believe that the truth of what happened on that fateful night is very

this jury.
