I want y'all to know that it's important

every time we do a show

that we create a space where for one night,

you can just let the music do all the talking

and you can just let the weight of the world

just fall off your shoulders for just a second

I believe in the power of music.

That's just what I believe, y'all.

I felt worthless, I felt hopeless

and I felt helpless at so many moments of my life.

I felt moments I would never get myself out of the hole

that I had dug myself in.

I had moments where I felt like I didn't deserve

to step forward or breathe one more breath.

And if you were out there tonight

What a fun Thursday night this has been, right?

[cheering]

Coming all right after a Thursday night football

on Prime, dude, I even wore my football gear.

I...

Yeah, thank you.

Y'all mind if I tell you a story right quick?

You just set it right there. I'll deal with it.

Thank you, my friend.

I, um, I love songs that have stories.

And if y'all don't mind, I want to share one with y'all tonight.

I, um, I've always took a great responsibility

as a songwriter to write songs for people

who traditionally don't have songs written for them.

I think it's just important that I represent where I'm from

and where I came from and what I've been through.

And I think that maybe my story could help other people

know that they could overcome as well.

And, um, but I always realize

that it's not always about my story.

Sometimes you hear stories and they imprint on your soul

in a way that you can't shake them.

And I don't want to sound too artsy here,

but there's nights where you can't sleep

because you've heard something and you just got to get it out

of you in a way that you can't even describe.

It just burns you inside.

And I had heard a story a long time ago from my wife

and I had been wanting to write this song forever.

And I came into a room and I wrote it

and I just could not figure it out.

We had got everything together,

but it was something about the chorus that was off.

And we were about three weeks ago,

we were getting ready to turn the album in,

"Beautifully Broken" and I kept going,

I can't sleep at night without this song being on the album.

I don't know what's wrong with it.

I got to figure it out.

And I could almost hear it clear that God was kind of

letting me know that it was missing a voice.

That because of the subject matter of the song,

it needed a specific voice.

And I was thinking about a woman who I knew that I think

is one of the greatest singer-songwriters ever.

And somebody who wasn't afraid to tackle

such a deep and heavy subject.

And if it's okay with y'all,

I would like to bring to the stage my friend

Mrs. Skylar Grey right now to sing a song with me

if that's okay with y'all.

[cheering]

I sent this song to Skylar Grey

and she finished writing the song.

She wrote the chorus completely by herself.

I've always thought she was once in a generation talent

and she's proved me right every single time.

I think she's one of

the greatest songwriters that's ever lived.

Thank you so much.

[cheering]

This song is heavy.

I just want to warn everybody out there

watching this song is heavy.

But I think that this is a group of people

who have never been properly spoken for in music

and I believe Skylar said the same thing.

And God knows that I needed an angel on this song

and he sent me one.

And this song is called "Past Yesterday."

It's on my new album.

-Skylar Grey. -Thank you, guys.

Y'all, Skylar Grey!

She is truly, I sent her this song

and I said Skylar, if I don't get this song back

in the next like 30 hours,

it's not going to be able to make the album.

Skylar wrote that chorus by herself that morning

and sent it right back that afternoon, y'all.

I mean, she is truly a gift from God, y'all.

She is one of the greatest to ever do it.

One more time, Amazon Music Live, Skylar Grey.

[cheering]

Well, I'm up here telling stories

and singing sad songs on a Tuesday night.

I wrote a song about my children

and I want to share it with y'all

because I'm a proud father.

I'm a super proud father. It changed my life.

It's one of the greatest privileges

I've ever had and every dad song I ever heard was

like super lovey-dovey and I understand that

but I don't know, I just come from a place

where fatherhood scared me initially

because I was afraid the generational curses

was going to continue to pass down

and I had already experienced the landslide

of generational curses to me

and I would hope that I could stop

and I said maybe that's the song well write.

I wrote this song about my children.

If y'all don't mind, I want to take a second to...

First of all, I just want to thank Amazon,

I want to thank Prime, Thursday Night Football,

just... this is a huge production y'all.

out there for y'all. This is crazy.

This is like one of the coolest things I've ever seen.

This is unbelievable.

Thank y'all for giving me such a beautiful

If you're just stumbled on this by chance

of just wondering who the big dude was singing songs

and you didn't hear it when I started,

you can tell everything I do in three simple phrases

of we make real music for real people with real problems.

We call it therapeutic music.

We believe that music can heal people,

that music can help people.

We believe in the power of music y'all.

That's just something we stand beside,

it's something we believe in.

We believe music is therapy, that's just what we believe.

This song, there's an old phrase in music business

that there's a song that is the quote unquote

"horse that we all rode to town on."

This is the song that I guess you could say

I kind of rode to town on.

This is the song that kind of changed my life.
