But I've never met one I couldn't help.

In my career, I've worked with thousands
of cats one -on -one, analyzing their

behaviors and retraining them and their
guardians.

When relationships are at an end, I
don't have many more options than to

leave. And cat guardians have reached
their emotional limit. Just get rid of

her. I'm their last hope.

lives, but humans only have one.

So I'm on my way right now to go see
Sherry and Darren about their cat,

These guys are like high -adrenaline
people.

They love high -octane sports, but
they've had it with Littles and her

ways. I'm going to go over right now and
see if I can put the brakes on this

screeching ball of terror.

My name is Darren. My name is Sherry.
We've been married for seven years.

And we have a cat named Littles, and she
is a cat from hell.

Why so much?

Okay, okay.

We are basically weekend warriors and we
love motorcycle racing. We love car

racing.

But things at home are very much more
extreme than our sports.

It's okay.

She'll hiss. She'll run around.

She will attack us and bite our legs.

Okay, okay. When Littles is at her
worst, both of our legs are just

with blood. We've been to urgent care so
many times, Littles is almost famous at

the doctor's office.

In order to deal with Littles, I had to
put my safety gear on, like my

protective pants and my oven mitts.

We're actually afraid to have family
over. It could trigger them getting bit,

and I'm not having that in my house,
period.

If Lilz cannot be fixed, I have no
option but to put her down.

That would kill me if I put her down.

She's my little baby.

She was kind of like the infant I never
had.

So it's creating a lot of arguments.

And we are desperate.

I'm Jackson.

Hey.

Hi, Jackson. I'm Darren. Nice to meet
you. Darren, nice to meet you, too.

So, I know things have been bad.

Tell me, what's going on with your cat?

She's untouchable. If something triggers
her, like a young kid walks in the

house or a cat walks across the
backyard, you better watch yourself

might get bit. If I'm in her path or
Darren's in her path, we got a nice

surprise waiting. Oh!

That was her teeth marshmallow three
months ago. Those are teeth. We both

Wow. When I find out that Darren is
ready to put Littles to sleep, even

Sherry is completely opposed to the
idea, the pressure and the stakes get

than ever.

Here's what I want to do. I want to walk
around the house and meet Littles.

So Darren, Sherry, and I go into their
bedroom, and this is where both Sherry

and Darren have gotten bit so badly,
they both wound up in the ER. This is

generally the hot spot, kind of where
you're standing right here.

There's the window.

She was attacked by the window. I was
attacked right here.

Okay, so Darren's attack right here.

Right. So walk me through it. Come on
over. Walk me through it. It would be

8 o 'clock in the morning. Just woke up
instantly right then and there. I got

bit in the leg not knowing really what
happened until I turned around and saw

the cat run.

And then I could feel the pain in my leg
look down, blood everywhere.

Knew right then I got bit.

And that was pretty much it. And when
she bit you, what happened? What did she

do? No, no, where did she go? She went
into the hallway and kind of looked back

like, did I do something wrong? So she
stopped in the hallway. Yeah, and looked

back a little bit like, I think I did
wrong, but not sure.

This is where I know that I've got a lot
to teach the humans. Now, when Darren

is explaining the attack that Littles
put on him, he just explains it as, I

standing in front of my window, admiring
the view, and suddenly I'm bleeding,

and it's totally unpredictable and
random.

I'd be totally the opposite. I know that
Littles was turned from something that

was in the living room window. She ran
in, continued the argument, the fight,

and he just happened to be in the way.
He just missed three quarters of that

conversation. And you got it, what, back
here? I got it right here, right by the

door. I was standing.

Okay. And she was in that room, in the
den, I'm assuming.

And I was folding laundry right here,
standing up, kind of sorting it out. And

she had run in? She must have ran in,
and that's when she got me from behind.

Oh, she runs all the way back in here,
and as she's running by you, she gets

you? Yes. Oh.

Little attacks and bites her legs
without warning. All of our bites have

from behind, and we have no idea when
it's coming.

It's so unpredictable what we're going
through with her right now, and that's

why we don't know how to fix it, because
the two attacks that happened with us,

We're unforeseen.

It's when we're in another room and we
got our backs to her. Good to know all

this stuff. I'm going to be able to use
it to some degree. Let's keep moving.

There's more. I'm getting great
information about little, but the X

is that front entrance. So that's where
we headed next.

So Sherry and Darren were telling me
that when kids come in the house, little

either wants to run or run at them.
Either way, not a great thing.

A lot of fear I don't like, but a lot of
aggression nobody else likes. You were

telling me that when people come in,
especially kids, right?

She really will hiss to the point where
I'm not comfortable handling her.

Usually I'll have to put some kind of
protective gear on her.

I have these motorcycle pants I wear.
You really? You wear motorcycle pants

around the cat? Yeah. Do you want me to
just bring them out? You think you're

going to get through this day without
wearing motorcycle pants?

I can.

That's what the cat makes me do.

I'm absolutely stunned that she's
resorted to this.

It just tells me how far I've got to go,
not with the cat, but with the humans.

Now, in terms of Littles, I did see her
right there. So go ahead and change and

meet us out there. Okay.

Littles. That's our Littles.

So we walk into the living room, and
from the look on Littles' face, I'm

starting to wish I had some protective
gear of my own.

I'm just going to be cool for a second.
Okay.

Hi.

I'm just coming in.

Can I just hug you?

Ow. Whoa.

Ow.

Ow.

I had to see how long it would take for
Littles to stop beating me up, so I kept

pushing Littles' challenge line. Now,
from the outside, that may look insane,

but I had to understand the nature of
her aggression.

Whoa. I'm not back under.

Ow!

Littles was so threatened, she started
turning upside down.

Now that's telling me that she is
expecting attack in such an amazing way

she's exposing her hind legs. Those hind
legs are the most powerful thing they

have. She meant business.

Oh, God.

Oh, God.

Are you okay?

Do you need band -aid? No, no, no. Not
done yet.

Darren is about to put this cat to sleep
thanks to this kind of behavior, so

I've got to do something, anything, to
get through to her.

What do I got for you?

If I can get you out of my hands, man, I
am a happy, happy guy.

I'm waiting for that one little sign.

Make a choice.

I'm terrified right now.

You gotta understand what a huge moment
this is for a cat like Littles. Because

I approached her calmly, without fear,
and without any threatening over -the

-head gestures, she was able to trust
me.

Now here's the interesting thing. You
see how she looked out there first,

she took the food? As if to say, who's
going to take my food away from me?

What goes on right here?

Oh, that's where the neighbor cats come.
So she'll follow the neighbor cat from

this window.

Make her path around to our bedroom
window. While she's running is when you

hit. So, honestly, what this is is like
this racetrack of destruction, right?

Absolutely. So our final stop had to be
outside.

Okay. I mean, this backyard is wide open
to intruders. Any cat can just walk

through the iron fence or over the brick
walls. So no wonder she's freaking out.

So what happens is when this invasion to
the territory happens, kaboom, right?

And then we have the racetrack.

So.

I'm going to give you guys homework
right now. So since we know the cat is

coming from two places, either over or
under, we're going to reinforce these

areas. The next time I come over here, I
don't want to see anyone coming over

that wall. That's going to take the
threat level down 50 % immediately.

Part two.

You're going to build shelves coming off
of the top of this tree, okay? So that

means she always has that exit route.
What I want them to do is to catify the

entire racetrack. You start by providing
a place for Littles to go. That's

really important.

And now we got one more exercise, okay?

I'm going to call it red light, green
light. I want kids to come over here.

Supervised, of course, for their safety.

What you're going to do is you're going
to give them a treat. You're going to

have the kids ring the doorbell. Green
light, they walk in. Then you say red

light. At red light.

They drop the treat, and they walk out.
She is going to learn very quickly that

whoever comes in the door, A, bears
gifts, but B, will not make a

move toward her.

The Red Light, Green Light project is so
important because we love having our

family over. So having that work would
just be a huge weight lifted off our

shoulders. All right, guys, you can
hang. I'm going to leave.

All right, I'm here for my second visit
with Sherry and Darren and their cat,

Little. And the last time I was here was
one of the most violent run -ins I've

ever had with a cat.

Little's just so terrifying that she
makes it impossible for Sherry and

to have friends or family over.

Darren wants a euthanizer, and Sherry
will have nothing to do with that

solution. My thought would be put Little
down.

Now, I gave these guys some serious
homework, and I asked them to fortify

backyard, but all they did was put up
air canisters, which are clearly not

working, so I have no idea what I'm in
for today.

Darren!

Oh, my God.

That's a lot of fight. How are you?
Good, how are you? It's good to see you.

Where's Darren at? Darren's on his way,
actually.

What's up, man? How are you? Hi,
Jackson. Good to see you, brother. Good

you. Man, I'm telling you, motorcycles
and longboards, and I expect, like, I'm

going to parachute through the ceiling.
So, how are things going in this house?

Things are improving, but we still got a
lot of work to do.

Now, tell me how the homework worked for
you. So, when we did the Red Light

Green Light project, we had the
neighbor's kids come over, and by the

third doorbell rang, she's like, I don't
care who's at the door. She's like, I'm

over this.

Red light, green light was a really
important exercise. I wanted to reward

Littles with food for coming to the door
and not either attacking, acting,

menacing, anything like that. And there
was payoff.

Now that means that we can cross off the
front door as a source of Littles'

anxiety, and that's huge.

But I'm still sensing apprehension from
these guys.

There was that sense that the solutions
were pretty drastic, right? It was sort

of end -of -life solutions. Are you
still afraid of your cat?

I am. That's a problem. Yes, but I could
never put her down.

Sherry is still terrified of her own
cat.

That doesn't work. If you're still
scared of your cat, we got problems.

Hey, look at what we got here.

Look at you. Look at this, guys.

I love it. I love that Sherry and Darren
gave Littles those refined feline cloud

shelves to elevate the kitty race track
of doom. But I can tell right away

that's still not enough.

Oh, hi.

There is your neighbor's cat coming into
the yard.

Whoa.

There she goes.

So the neighbor's cat comes rolling by
the window and kaboom, Littles is in

gear. Wow, look at her go. I got to tell
you.

The way her tail, back and forth,
whipping, the way she was shaking, never

it before. That cat was ready to
explode.

She's like a little cat grenade right
now, man. And the pin has definitely

pulled.

Euthanasia is still on the table, so
I've got to show them that it's possible

redirect her attention onto something
positive.

Come from the side.

Try to get her interested.

And I'm just going to pull this over and
try to get her attention.

And there we go. See? That's exactly
what I wanted to see. You see how the

second she sees the toy, she feels like
she can move herself away from a real

threat to something she can hunt?

Good girl.

What is that?

That's pretty amazing, man. So we got
her. That's a huge deal right there.

When Jacqueline got Little to play in
the middle of all the madness, that was

eye -opener. But I still don't feel 100
% comfortable having family in our home

when she's freaking out when the cat's
outside.

We still have a big problem, and that
big problem is out there.

So let's go outside.

So we go outside, and there she is.

Hi, troublemaker. And there's this cat
out here like she owns the place. Guess

what? She does.

She owns Little's territory.

By the way.

There we have the air canisters. Right.
The problem is, this doesn't stand a

chance against that. Right.

Sherry, what are you thinking about?

Well, we can't control this whole yard.
It feels out of control, actually.

When we were all outside, my heart just
kind of dropped a little bit because I

felt like, is this hopeless?

You know, are we never going to be able
to keep the neighbor's cat out of our

yard? I want to actually talk to you for
a little bit. Mind if we take off for a

minute? Absolutely. Okay, come on.

Let's walk over this way.

Sherry's face at that moment was so
pained, so conflicted, I felt like I had

lost her.

So, obviously we're seeing things that
are so concerning. Where are you right

now in this whole process?

Are you seeing that you're closer to the
euthanasia than you are to the solution

at the moment?

It comes down to the decision where if I
want my family and my life, that I

might have to euthanize my cat in order
to get that.

That would kill me if to put it down.

His little is my family as well. Yeah.

toy. Diffusing that kitty time bomb with
play is going to be crucial to everyone

in this household.

backyard. So to keep us from failing
this time, we're going to use a lot of

different variations.

We are going to use water.

We are going to use sound. I want them
to use the automated sprinkler and get a

motion -activated alarm to help deter
unwanted animals.

my cat and our family anymore.

now that tells me this cat could be in
pain. And that concerns me. I tend to

feel like I'm the one that picks it up
more in general.

We've instated the not it game.

I called it. I can't deal with this.

I hate picking it up. It smells. It's
disgusting.

There's resentment underneath. She's
sick of picking it up. The stress

of cleaning up after the cat for this
long, it's got to be bad in there. We

would like to start a family, and to
have a cat that does that with a

woman or a child that will be down on
the floor is just not an option. What if

didn't come over here today?

Whiskey would have to be confined to a
single room.

We really don't have any time to waste
on this, so let's get moving. Come on,

guys. When Kate and Cameron told me that
they're going to start planning a

family and they're going to keep Whiskey
confined to a room which he's not

fixed, the stakes went through the roof
because that's no life for a cat. What

do I need to know in here?

He'll typically poop anywhere in this

I have never wanted a second opinion
more than I want one right now.

Whiskey came out from hiding, and not
only that... He settled into my touch

beautifully. He really responded to
cheek and neck touching. Matter of fact,

soon as I scratched him under his chin,
insta -purr. Now that tells me that

Whiskey's a friendly cat, but he's in
pain, and that keeps him from being the

happy, healthy cat I want him to be.

That was fun.

The first thing we're going to do is
we're going to have a second opinion

I know that we're not dealing with
territory problems or dominance issues

anything like that. This is a cat that's
been in pain for years, and we have to

relieve that pain, get another opinion,
get an ultrasound done, a full blood

workup, and make sure we know what's
going on in this body. The second part

the homework here, nutritionally, right?
You're going to switch to a wet diet,

okay? Okay. That dry food, that's what
it looks like coming out. If he has wet

going in, it's going to be a little
better quality coming out. He feels

He will act appropriately. and hopefully
who's using a litter box, but it's

And we're seeing some mildly enlarged
lymph nodes.

Along the colon? They said that they
can't get a good enough sample unless

do surgery, and they wanted to cut them

I think that when we're dealing with

last thing I would want is exploratory
surgery. I'm not a vet. That's just my

gut feeling.

So, let's talk about Whiskey.

Whiskey is in pain.

His ultrasound shows an inflammation
that parallels that colon. The

diagnosis is a colitis.

Does colitis fall in that world of IBD,
irritable bowel disease?

Yeah, it does. Okay. Dr. Spitz's
diagnosis is that whiskey has IBD, or

bowel disease, which is an inflammatory
condition that can be incredibly painful

if left unmanaged. So this explains why
whiskey runs when he poops and can't

manage to use the litter box.

The task of giving whiskey medication
doesn't seem nearly as daunting now.

The success here is that we know he is
not going to be in pain anymore.

To be able to leave him knowing that in
a couple weeks' time, it's going to be

We have a diagnosis that we are going to
make this cat feel better. We know that

that's going to happen. And they can
bring a baby into this world and know

it's a sanitary world. And most
importantly, Kate, as a concerned cat

knows that her boy is not in pain
anymore.
