We've had Wolfie for nine years or so.
That's been about nine years.

Wolfie will... Crash the crap out of

Oh! I mean, she's got me in the face.
She's got me near the eye. Everybody is

afraid of her. There's going to have to

We can't go on like that.

I am in Austin, man. You know how
psyched I am? Southern food, film

and, of course, live music. Speaking of
music, other than cats, it's kind of my

thing. Let's rock.

I'm Jackson Galaxy.

I'm a musician by night and a cat
behaviorist by day.

I've met cats with all kinds of
problems.

But I've never met one I couldn't help.

Oh, hello. In my career, I've worked
with thousands of cats, one -on -one,

analyzing their behaviors and retraining
them and their guardians.

When relationships are at an end. I
don't have many more options than to

leave. And cat guardians have reached
their emotional limit. Just get rid of

her. I'm their last hope.

Are you all right? Sorry, I don't know.
Cats have nine lives, but humans only

have one.

I'm here to see about a few savannas,
Murillo and Darwin. They're domesticated

wild cats, actually outlawed in many
places, but here in Austin, they're

Jacques is a skydiver, and his cats,
Murillo and Darwin, they're getting into

this parachute stuff. These guys are
threatening to make his next jump the

jump.

My name's Jacques. I'm kind of a crazy
skydiver, and I have two crazy savanna

cats.

I'm from Austin, Texas. I'm a
professional skydiver, and these cats

-seekers like me. They keep things
interesting, but sometimes it's a little

interesting.

They'll claw furniture.

She's eating a metal rod.

Scratch lines all over this painting.

They'll jump onto my vent hood.

And one day I'm worried it's just going
to come crashing down on my whole

kitchen. It's kind of a problem.

I've had Morello and Darwin since they
were eight weeks old. One's a female,

one's a male. The female is named
Morello.

And she will fight you tooth and nail.
You make eye contact with her, she

explodes, hissing and growling, and all
of a sudden you have these grown men

jumping over the couches, running away
from this cat. She was coming towards

She's just that scary.

Darwin is my four -year -old Savannah.

He's constantly meowing.

These Savannah cats are ruining my life.

I'm constantly worried that the cats
might get into my skydiving gear or my

friend's skydiving gear. At times,
you've been known to be curious about

lines. Possibly rip up some internal
components that could cause a

later. All of a sudden, you've got a
major catastrophe going on. It's very

important that Jackson can come over and
help me out because some of these

situations can be very, very dangerous
if they don't get taken care of.

Hey, man, how are you? Good. I'm
Jackson. Chuck.

Chuck, it is good to see you, man. I got
a feeling I'm here for that.

Yes. I heard that guy all the way down
the hallway.

Oh, yeah.

Which one is that?

That's Darwin.

Whoa. I've never seen a cat jump higher
than a savannah before.

Well, take a look at that. That really
worries me. And I'm actually watching.

Oh, oh, oh, oh.

Oh, God.

Dude.

I can't believe that didn't just come
down. That is a disaster waiting to

happen.

Do you have a routine with them?

Play, exercise?

I mean, they have such high needs.

So I give them one session in the
evening when I get home.

Dude, anybody who gets a Savannah is
making an investment, let alone two

Savannahs. These guys have certain
needs, and these Savannahs are not

those needs met.

The other half of the story is Morello,
who you haven't met yet, and she's more

wild. He's F5, and she's an F2.

This cat is a mix between a domestic cat
and a serval, a wild cat.

F2 means she is only two generations
away from being a serval, a wild cat.

Darwin is an F5. That means he's farther
away from a wild cat, closer to a

domestic cat. So she'll bite, scratch,
claw, whatever.

She's bit? Oh, yeah.

Darwin also sometimes has an affinity
for the lines with parachute equipment,

I have to shoot him away from that.

Wait, wait, wait.

He plays with your parachutes? Well, I
don't let him. The guy plays with your

parachutes? Just trying to play with
whatever he can play with. Dude, wait.

on. You just made me sweat. Look at
that.

I mean, this is dangerous. This is life
or death.

One puncture mark, and Jacques falls out
of the sky.

What I want to do, take a look around.
Sounds good. Let's do it, man.

Got a lot of good information, but it's
time to get up, meet the cats, and see

what I can do for them.

Morello. I'm kind of worried for his

And I'm not going to lie to you.

Cool. The tail on this cat coiled like a
snake, shaking from rage. That cat was

ready to explode.

And I don't scare too easy.

It takes every ounce of courage in my
body to come closer to

her testing Morello's challenge line,
letting me know that this F2 is wild.

Ah, damn.

As I'm sitting there with Morello, I
realize that I'm not seeing Morello as a

domestic cat. I'm seeing her as a big,
wild, hybrid question mark.

In a perfect world, this isn't the
perfect world for her. Wow.

That's pretty intense.

It is really intense, man.

And with our boy right here, Darwin,
totally different, right?

Absolutely. Now, I see we've got the
parachute equipment here. Show me what

work with.

I just want to get a grip on what he
likes to play with, like why he's

to that stuff in the first place. So I
say the first thing he tends to get

attracted to.

This is a cat playground. Are you
kidding me?

Dude, what happens if he bites through
one of these?

And you could lose steering on a whole
half of the parachute, and so it'll just

be flapping above your head.

I'm terrified right now. It's not the
best cat toy, I will agree.

One hole in one parachute, and it's
over. I got my work cut out for me.

And I've got to give you some homework,
all right?

Sounds like a plan.

All right. You've got to amp the play
up. I know you've got a job, but you've

got to find the time. These are
savannas. They've got high play slash

drives. You've got to play into it. I
guarantee you that if Jacques was having

an appropriate amount of play with his
cat, you wouldn't have Darwin screaming

his head off.

The other form of exercise I want you to
do is right here, where you go in and

take these guys on walks.

It's not going to happen tomorrow.

I've tried taking them for walks on the
leashes before, and it didn't really

work out. If you can get into the
elevators and just take a ride up and

with them, that's a really huge goal for
the next time I come back.

spending more time playing with Morello

and Darwin, which is key to Savannah's,
and I've even seen him walking Darwin on

a leash, which is great. Good boy.

So we're making some good progress.
Darwin has been really taking to some of

homework assignments and doing pretty

progress, but it's very small chunks.

Darwin, where he's not meowing
incessantly whenever I'm home now. The

There's a sweet side of her I'm seeing
today that I just did not see last time.

So that's a pretty big deal for me.

This time around, I'm hearing that she's
social. She plays, and the result is

fantastic. Dramatic change has happened
to Morello's behavior.

Actually, I couldn't even believe it.
That was pretty cool.

Now, let's go to the place that I know
makes you a little nervous, right? Yeah.

That would probably be Kate. All right.
Let's go ahead and let her in.

Hi. Hi, I'm Kate. Jacques, nice to meet
you. Nice to meet you.

Well, hello there.

Hello. Kate is my catification partner.

Jacques, why don't you tell her the
problem?

They're jumping straight up to there,
and then they jump from that onto this.

I see a great cat superhighway around
here. I'm giving them something of their

own where they can really take advantage
of that.

I can say I'm a little bit nervous.

My main concerns are either the quality
of craftsmanship won't be high enough or

the style won't match what I currently
have.

So, Kate, I don't know if you know this
or not, Jacques is a professional

skydiver. There's been stories of Darwin
actually getting into the parachute

gear and scratching that up as well. Not
good. Not a good day. Not a good day.

You've never had life or death
consequences before, have you? No, this

stakes.

We are going to make one killer piece of
catification, and in that land, that.

They'll never happen, okay?

Once the catification is done, that's
got to be home base for Morella by the

Just to even be in the hallway, that
idea of being around people, around

environments at all, is going to be
hugely helpful.

Now, we move into the second part of

want them to play in this area, right

Now, I want to bring Morello out to the
social space. Once I see that, then I

know that she's moving closer to the
domestic cat and a little further away

the wild cat.

Now, with the catification, our end game
is Morello being out here, not in the

bedroom, not undercover, here.

I'm still not 100 % sold on the idea
that Morello's going to get completely

fixed. I think that she has too much
wild in her. Honest to God, are you

nervous? It's far less nerves than
jumping out of a plane, so I think we're

making progress. We're in the right
direction.

In my line of work, in order to reach
success, it's part about analyzing the

and part about analyzing the human. In
this case, I'm getting to know his cats,

but I still know very little about
Jacques. So I figure it's time to get

his world and learn about his love of
jumping. I feel like kind of incomplete.

The shelves, the color, the range hood,
everything that I asked Kate to do, she

Kate did you and your cats kind of a
solid, yeah? She definitely went above

beyond. I'm really in love with the work
that Kate did of bringing some of the

natural world into a kind of sleek,
modern design.

The first time I came over here, when
Darwin hit this thing, oh, I just about

crawled out of my skin. And those days
are over. They're just so incredibly

happy. They're just here all the time.

Good news, man.

With Darwin, he has a huge new
playground to play in. He's able to play

expend his energy. He's not scratching
on paintings.

And that's what I'm most impressed with.

Talk to me about Morello. Morello
hanging up top?

She is up there constantly.

She knows that she's safe. She's been
able to take in the world and relax a

little bit more.

She's, you know, like out in this space,
just kind of hanging out. And that's

something that she didn't always do.

So now...

I would love to be able to just give her
a little bit of treat here. That would

be really swell.

What do we got?

Morella will always be a wildcat.
Remember, that's how she was bred. She's

F2. She's only two generations removed
from a wildcat. She will never be a lab

cat. But to see her out and enjoying her
home, man, that's a huge

accomplishment.

And they're just completely calm and
relaxed all the time.

Now that Jackson's come in and been able
to give these cats an environment where

they can be calm, they don't have these
issues. So it's been great.

Last time I was here, per usual, I asked
you to document your homework.

I've got to tell you, looking at video
homework, the first thing that strikes

me, Jacques playing them up to these
certain areas. I love the fact that the

cats love it.

Also in video homework, I got to see
Jacques walking Morello on a leash,

That's amazing.

That's the kind of thing that I couldn't
have even imagined happening a short

time ago, and I had to see it to believe
it.

Great stuff.

I mean, I feel like I've got my home
back. I've got, you know, like an actual

home base and one that people want to
come to.

So it's been great.

I couldn't be happier for that cat
because she deserved it. I felt so bad

her. I've seen a lot of good things
about Morello. Now it's time to check in

Darwin. I'm going to grab a toy out. I
want to see if I can get Darwin moving

around. Oh, my God, I would die if he
just jumped.

That's amazing.

When I first met these savannas, they
were getting no exercise and letting out

their energy in the wrong ways. Morello
by attacking people and Darwin by

jumping on the stove hood and shredding
up Jacques' parachute equipment.

Now, with this catification project
complete, they're getting their energy

in the appropriate places.

Now, I can't help but notice something.

I see a parachute in here, but that must
mean something. It must mean that you

feel somewhat safe, right?

Absolutely. I mean, they've got so many
other distractions now, like this isn't

nearly as much fun to them as everything
else that's going on.

That means mission accomplished. I think
I'm out, man.

weightlessness of indoor skydiving was

enough for me, but I'm happy to support
Jacques by watching him in his element.

the day, Maine Coons were a favorite of

And actually, she is kind of like a
pirate, slicing and dicing, pooping

she wants to. And I'm going to go over
and see if I can teach this cat some

manners.

together for over 16 years.

We've had Wolfie for, I think, nine.

It's been about nine years.

Oh! Wolfie pretty much will scratch the
crap out of you.

She's got me in the face. She's got me

There's no warning sign whatsoever.

It's terrorizing. Wolfie is definitely
violent towards other people.

I mean, my friend who was over in Iraq,
I told him to come and help us with this

a little bit, and he said, hell no.

Wolfie is stalking them.

She's almost like just a little serial
killer just waiting out there in the

dark.

It's ridiculous.

I love Wolfie because she's so bad and
we're so similar.

Wolfie poops probably two to three times
a day everywhere.

She uses her toys to cover up her poop.
I think it's really funny.

I get frustrated with Heather because
she thinks that when Wolfie behaves

it's a joke, and I don't think it is.

I feel a little bit of resentment for
Heather's behavior sometimes.

She's like my little cat best friend.

I love you, honey, and we're pretty.

See, we're pretty together. There's
going to have to be a change.

If you ever think about getting rid of

towards friends and family.

Even our neighbor, who happens to be a
sheriff, he won't come over.

I kind of can't wait to see that one, to

And another strange thing that she does
when she uses the bathroom on the floor

is she will take articles of my
clothing.

Seriously?

Yummy.

She actually took one of my shoes this
morning and covered up her poop with one

of my shoes. With a shoe?

With my shoe. Get out of here. Yeah.

I got to tell you, on a scale of 1 to
10, Wolfie covering up her poop with

Bijan's shoes is an 11. But it does make
sense because Wolfie is going through

the ancient ritual of hiding her scent
from predators.

What is it about her that you love?

We're two peas in a pod.

You two?

Like, you bite and scratch and poop on
the floor? I bite and scratch.

And you don't appreciate this at all?
No. No, I don't. To me, they're behavior

issues. To her, they're more nuances.

That pretty much sums it up. So let's
get up and get moving, huh? Okay. Come

Oh, there's quite the human dynamic
between Bijan and Heather. Heather

this is all kind of funny, and Bijan,
not so much. He's not happy with this.

Seriously? Yeah. Like, right off the
bat?

Starts right at the doorway.

Well, quite embarrassing. Wolfie's poop
is concentrated by the front door, which

says that she's territorially insecure.
In fact, she's so insecure that she's

pulling household objects over that
poop, basically cementing her poop's

in the territory.

It's almost like she is booby -trapping
the house.

You know? I don't think that that would
work. Oh, okay.

Earlier, Heather and Bijan told me that
the sheriff next door was actually

coming over, which is perfect. Hey, how
are you doing? How are you? Good to see

you. Come on in. Because we do know that
Wolfie is violent with people who come

through that front door. How are you?

guy with a bulletproof vest?

And there is Wolfie. Of course, this is
the first time I get to meet Wolfie. So

this helps me to see, is it just about
her defending territory, or can she just

be handled by people?

Uh, if you don't mind, try to handle
Wolfie here.

Oh, my gosh.

Good. You're handling her totally
confidently. That's great.

And, all right, just see if you can get
through that one, that one. Go ahead and

hold on to her.

And the sheriff picks up Wolfie.

No time flat. Wolfie wants to pick a
fight. She's growling, hissing. She spit

few times.

Okay, put it down, put it down.

She just locked eyes with him and then
went for a bite. At that point, game

for the sheriff. She has plenty of
confidence. It's just expressed in the

way. Thanks for coming over, man. Thank

We actually did get great information
there for sure, but she really didn't

any hesitation.

The thing is, I tend to see, like,
especially if you hand, you know, I

you to hand her over to him to see if
that would freeze her a little bit.

She's ready to go after it. Oh, yeah. So
that was normal what you just saw? Oh,

yeah.

That's normal. If anybody, I mean,
normally it's her running and, you know,

my parents again, she'll, I mean, I
don't even know how to explain it. Just

dog. That was pretty good. Yeah. Yeah.

How does it make you feel to have, A,
your neighbor, and, B, a police officer

get hit by your cat like that?

It's unnerving, to say the least. It's
embarrassing.

I mean, while it was happening, I wasn't
looking at you guys. I was looking at

him. I mean, did you know?

Oh, really?

Oh, yeah.

I mean, it makes me feel.

Yeah, it was a nervous time for me. My
heart was, like, going through.

Well, for sure, for sure. And you know
what the funny thing is? You know what

you said?

Her heart is beating like crazy. I mean,
the two of you can definitely feed off

each other.

That I saw for sure.

But also, you know, the other thing I
saw was when she was clinging on to you

and then to him.

Those mitts she's got on her hand, man,
when she wants to hurt you, yeah, they

got big old mitts. You know what's
really interesting, by the way? Do you

that Maine Coons, because they were bred
up north and they were bred as working

animals in the winter, those feet, they
actually act as snowshoes, right?

That's why we look at those feet and we
go, oh, those are mitts. Those are

snowshoes, right?

But when you have violent snowshoes, You
got a problem. Yeah. And that was a

problem. Yeah. All right, guys.

Good. I'm glad we got that done. It
really does help me a lot. But in the

meantime, let's keep going. So now I got
to spend some time with Wolfie.

impressions of Wolfie was that

she's dangerous.

She hit me,

and she wanted to hurt me with claws
that are obviously not

clipped. That combination was not a good
one.

It's clear that Wolfie is territorially
insecure. I mean, not only does she mark

by pooping, but she also violently
lashes out to defend her space.

Okay. Now that was an experience.

have a little bit of vertical world.

I want to get her up high, away from
people, allow her to survey what's going

without getting on the ground. That way,
she'll feel safe so she won't attack

and scratch.

Let's talk about the poop deck.

So we're going to try a different type
of litter box and different type of

litter. I want them to get a completely
different type of litter box, really low

-sided so she's not getting in, just
walking on. I want to reassociate the

litter box with that area. She needs to
put that mark down, put it in an

appropriate place.

Now, here's the next thing I want you to

have to expand her territory.

We have to expand that sense that not
just this area, all of this out front is

It started going this way, and then she
started going over there. Yeah. So it

just started moving the litter box kind
of back that way. It's really

frustrating how Heather babies Wolfie.
She's spoiling her and making it worse.

Heather's rushing the process.

As a result, moving the litter box is
only confusing Wolfie because Wolfie

connect the litter box with a place to
poop.

Oh. My.

Lord.

Look at that, man. She's just one of the
gang.

Heather and Bijan and I are talking, and
all of a sudden I see this smile come

across their face, and there was Wolfie
laying there behind me. Her ears,

absolutely neutral. Her eyes, not
dilated. That's not the same cat I met

last time I was here.

And I had to go over and check in with
her. Well, hi there, girlfriend.

He's going to get scratched.

And the secret is to get her while she's
still eating.

And eat out of my hand, baby.

That's the key, the little bitty piece.

Yeah. Aw.

Now that's big stuff. That's a huge
moment. That's her saying, I trust you.

she's saying, it's okay, I trust you
too. That means the homework is working.

Because we've expanded her world both up
and out, she's feeling territorially

secure. Okay, my love.

Okay, pretty amazing, guys. Pretty
amazing, right? It really is.

Okay, so, watching the video homework,
it was clear that Wolfie wasn't

comfortable on the leash.

Getting her outside is key.

getting her aggression under control and

stopping the pooping, she needs more
territory.

behavior, and we've got to work on that.

small increments until she gets

party, right? So somebody comes in, they

down. They don't acknowledge her. You
don't lock eyes because cats will see

as a threat. You don't go for the pet.
You just provide good things like treats

and toys.

Now, I'll bet that Heather's nervous
energy translates when other people come

over to visit. Now, if we can get this
under control, then Wolfie has a chance

of acting like a normal house cat with
other people, too. Also, don't move a

litter box.

outside the box at all?

Heather taking the homework to heart, to

that she's really willing to trust in
the process and allow it to work.

concerned that she could get to the

door, but not over that threshold. That
