When relationships are at an end, I
don't have many more options than to

And as I was pleading with Mike over

So tell me, why am I here?

We've been having a lot of problems with
the killings. First it was biting the

calves, and then it has turned into
unprovoked attacks.

What does attack look like to you guys?
He'll be purring, and all of a sudden

his eyes go black, his ears go flat.
He's purring, and he wants to attack.

So he can just be sitting there, and the
next second he's somebody else.

I've been asleep in the bed, and I've
been bitten in the back of the head

before. Turned around, he's ready to go
again.

And when he bites you, does he break
skin?

I know he looks like a cat, but I really
don't think he's a cat. What is he?

Maybe a dragon?

I don't know. Do you freaking tell

If you're calling your cat, who you
love, a dragon or a demon, they pick up

that. They soak up that energy. At some
point, they're going to spit that back

out. He doesn't let Mike sleep at night
when I'm not here. Mike's meeting. Does

he work nights?

I work night shifts, though. So you guys
have a totally opposite schedule. Oh,

yeah. So he's vulnerable all the time,
and it makes me scared for him.

Have you been attacked in your sleep?

I haven't been attacked in my sleep
because I use the blanket under the door

he can't claw the carpet, and then I
shut the door.

He's out.

When we are able to actually sleep in
the bed together, which is two to three

nights a week, I leave the door open,
and every time Achilles gets in the bed,

Mike sits up.

Why do you still have Achilles?

Before Achilles came into my life, I was
not the nicest person, just kind of

angry. And I felt like the minute I got
him, he took it from me.

Amy shared this piece of information
with me, which was so deep. She said

at one point she was a very angry
person. And she thought that Achilles

that energy. So I know now that part of
my work with her is helping that energy

pass through him.

I think Amy has allowed Achilles to do
things far beyond what anyone should

allow their pet to do.

It's gotten to the point where I've
been, like, bags packed, ready to go.

Okay. We've got a lot of work in front
of us.

As I see it, there are really high
stakes involved with Achilles because

though Mike is being a little secretive
about his desire to fix it or leave, I

know he's frustrated. I know he's
getting barely any sleep. I know that

tries to project a future with Amy, he
doesn't see it with Achilles. That's a

big hurdle that we're going to try to
get over. Hello, cat.

He looks awfully nice right now. Right?
I just want you to sit down and just be

with him for a minute, the way you would
normally do it, just the way you would

normally be with him. Hey, buddy.

This is when he sleeps. It's during the
day. It's at night that he's a little

more crazy and up and physically a
little more demanding.

So, time to bring Mike over and see the
same thing.

I mean, see if I pet him, he'll... I
just want to see what you would normally

do.

Yeah, I don't... I can't always tell if
he likes that, because he'll come over,

see, and he won't like that.

That's tricky now with his head turned
the way it is. You can run this side.

I mean, I normally would come, but he's
going to turn his head. See, I move

quickly. Yeah, you do.

This we can't have.

This looks like prey. It looks like a
rabbit running away.

Mike has no confidence whatsoever, and
that was really important for me to see.

He does that thing.

What thing was that? He just opens his
mouth and does a little thing.

See, that's your cue. I need to see this
behavior because that information is so

key to moving forward and getting these
guys on the right track. So I'm going to

come back tomorrow night when he's known
to act up. But for right now, we can't

waste any time. I'm going to get Amy and
Mike started on their homework.

All right. Well, he needs to get to a
vet. And my guess is he needs to be on

some kind of med because he doesn't have
to be this unpredictable source of

blood and pain.

Listen, I'm not a doctor, but let's be
plain.

When a cat goes blank like this, you're
sitting with them one second, and the

next second they are all over you trying
to claw your eyes out. That means that

there is no stimulation from the
environment. There is nothing coming

environment to cause it. It's probably
his brain doing it.

Mike, you get to build a new
relationship with him.

You are the player. You are the feeder.
You are the bringer of all good things,

okay? On the downside of things, you're
also going to be sleeping with the door

Positive, visualized mantras.

Amy has been holding on to the shame and
the guilt about Achilles, giving him

this negative, bad energy that she had
in herself.

So I gave her an exercise where I want
her to start saying affirmations because

it's time for no one to have that energy
anymore. The fact that you told me

right off the bat that you've lost
relationships over Achilles, Mike, I

keep you here.

I really do.

I think the hardest part for me is
believe in my head that nothing bad is

to happen.

Achilles has definitely not made this
place. I feel like home ever since I

in. It's been his place, not mine.

The last time I was here, I saw what Amy
has been seeing for just about six

years, a highly unpredictable,
aggressive cat.

The first thing we did was we went to

every night, allowed Achilles in, and

Space sharing is so important to cats
because cats have territorial needs.

And the bed has become this place where
space sharing is starting to take hold.

I am playing the role of a good cop. I
bring out the toys and I feed them. But

Amy also pulls out the toys and she
feeds them. You don't get to look like a

good cop when there's two good cops,
right? In the very beginning.

I wasn't sure. I didn't know if Mike had
played with him or fed him, and he

looked like he needed to play. You have
to trust Mike to do that loving part.

If that's us having a whiteboard here
saying, check, check, check, that might

sound silly to you, but I think we
should do it.

I felt the tension between them
immediately.

Mike is trying to be the good cop, and
Amy's not letting it happen. So now

got good cop and better cop.

That's not going to work. Right. I'm

That's so fearful that if he does one of
his dragon Jekyll Hyde things that he's

really going to hurt Mike.

really hesitant.

Overall, Mike has to do more of the
bonding work. Amy has to release a

bit. Back away from the cat. He has to

Mike's as well. That's the only way Mike
is ever going to feel home here, and

it's the only way the two of you are
ever going to have that affirmative life

amazingly well, it was this hidden gem
underneath all of it, which was this

level of investment.

I mean, it's fine if the clicker
training is not perfect. I didn't give

them as homework to accomplish a
specific task with Achilles. What I gave

them for was to accomplish a certain
task with Mike. Mike needed something to

so he wasn't consumed by fear every time
his hand was near Achilles. I mean, if

every time you go near that cat, you're
like this.

Bad stuff's going to happen. Now, the
last time I was here, there was a lot of

tension between you guys based on who's
doing what.

This makes sure that that doesn't happen
anymore.

We have a great board, a great system.

Three times a day, we've got the play
and then feed and the check boxes.

And then Amy has a whole separate one
for pills, so we know it's on his meds.

He'll sit with me, and he'll cuddle with

was gone.

Bitten would be a perfect cat if it
wasn't for Chompy. If you didn't have

to, like... fight with all the time, he
would be a perfect cat. He's nice.

Jackson is our last hope. I saw the
show, and I was like, oh, my God.

If he can come here and do something for
these cats, because I'm out of ideas,

So tell me, what brings me here today?

Well, our two cats, their psychotic
behavior, and our daughter.

The cat's, one's name's Chompy. She
wandered into the backyard, and I said,

kitty. We got a call one day from the
neighbor of her previous owners, and she

spoke to me on the phone and basically
said her old owners were very abusive.

She'd seen them kick her. Oh, wow.

She was underfed. Yeah.

Kevin and Megan tell me that the history
with Chompy is really sad.

They rescued her from neighbors who
clearly abused this cat. That gave me a

of insight into who these people are,
and I really like them.

Bitten is after Chompy all the time. He
jumps on her at least five times a day,

but he stalks her relentlessly. He just
follows her around. Which it never

stops. No.

They're, at this point, just allowed out
at each other 24 -7? During the day,

Chompy, we actually let her outside a
lot to get her out of the house so she

doesn't have to deal with bitten.

Started putting her in the garage. She's
much happier there at night, but it's

still stuck. It's cold and it's hot.

She's only happy there because she's not
getting... Yeah, because she's giving

me a load. Right, right.

I mean, I understand that Kevin and
Megan have... A purpose by putting

the garage.

On the other hand, if Chompy got to
vote, would her vote be to be in the

at night? I don't think so. In the
middle of all this mayhem, Quinn comes.

How often do you spend breaking up
fights in a given day?

I probably break up at least five a day.

Wow. I'm constantly dividing my time
between dealing with the cats,

the cats, and trying to spend time with
my daughter.

If there had to be a one cat home, who
would it be? Bitten.

Simultaneously, Chompy Bitten from both
of these guys.

That would be a divide.

That would be a huge problem that we've
got moving forward.

Chompy had a lot harder life.

I don't want to give up a cat that was
abused.

It's just not fair to her. And so I
wanted to get rid of him.

And then she gets really pissed off when
I say stuff like that. And, you know,

we got into a couple arguments where
finally I've just kind of stopped, you

know, because it just.

Leave too much stress between us. I
don't think it's an option to get rid of

Bitten.

What I'm hearing is that Bitten is the
one who's instigating all the fight.

Between the cats, yeah. Okay, so why
would Bitten be the one that would stay

We're not getting rid of one of those
cats. I don't care what he says. Like,

not doing that.

I'm, like, all about the undercat, so
I'm, like, thinking about Chompy right

now. And I'm thinking about what's the
right life for her.

Right now, at the very outset here, I'm
seeing one cat who's being tortured.

Chompy is already a traumatized cat
who's lived through a lot before.

So I want them to be ready to know that
at some point you may have to do the

responsible and loving thing and find
the right home because this might not be

it. So this is the bedroom.

Right now, I guarantee Chompy's under
the bed. Okay, so here we have it. Here

Something's got to be going on down

Mm -hmm. So what do we have? Well,

When we walked in the bedroom, not only
was Chompy under the bed, but Bitten was

just standing there patrolling like it
was a border. He was just waiting for

to come out, and he would get her when
the time came.

I was trying to get her to come out from
underneath Kevin and Megan's bed with

no success.

This is our cat box.

We used to have two, but one moved to
the garage when we started moving Chompy

out there.

Does she pee in here?

She does, yeah.

But a lot of times she'll hold it until
she can go outside or until the night

because it attacks her when she uses it.

This breaks my heart because this is one
of those things where she's basically

saying no place is safe for me.

It made me feel really bad to hear him,
in his words, replay the fact that as an

abused cat, she's now being abused in my
home, albeit not by people, but by a

cat. And I felt really bad about that
and really want that to change.

As I was talking to Kevin and Megan, I
saw Chompy just dash from one side of

room to the other. She was being stalked
by Bitten. And what she did, what she

always does, she looks for a hiding
place. And this time, it was under the

couch.

Now she's going under, and he's going to
follow her. I think that Bitten is a

little play aggressive.

He's a little boy. He likes to chase
things around, and he's finding a great

thing to chase around.

Chompy runs from him, and that's what's
causing a lot of this problem. The good

news, the silver lining, is that to me
it's not a dominant issue.

It's, ooh, look at her move.

Look at the way she, ooh, she moves like
a weasel.

Ooh, she moves like a snake. I'm going
to go get her. And that's what we have

deal with.

Chompy.

Kevin is I want him to play a lot with
Bitten because Bitten's energy has never

been expressed out of his body in any
other way but by chasing Chompy. At the

same time, I want them blocking off
under the couch, under the bed, because

and Bitten.

Now, these two cats are at each other.
There's violence every single day, which

is a problem enough in itself, but there
is a one -year -old daughter in the

picture as well, and the parents are at
their end.

better, maybe?

Well, since we started playing with
them, Bitten's really calmed down, and

Chompy's coming out a bit more.

For four days, their fights were cut in
half, like at least in half. Right on.

Yeah. We have gone from five to six
major screaming matches a day, and the

of the time, having Bitten stalk Chompy,
gone except for maybe one fight between

the cats per day. That is a major bridge
that we've crossed.

The great stuff is there's great play
going on, not just with Bitten, but hey,

with Chompy as well. Chompy playing is a
big deal. Yeah, she wouldn't play

before. Here's where play becomes such
this fascinating thing, right? For

Bitten, it's about draining off that
destructive energy. For her...

It's about raising up self -esteem.

One other thing that I really loved was
Quinn playing with Bitten because you're

setting up a relationship between Quinn
and the cat.

And she's going to grow up with respect
for the cat, and it's really cool. All

in all, those were really wonderful
things to see. But you are still seeing

fights. You're still seeing some
arguments.

It's time to take a look around the
house again and see what they had and

done.

Okay, so now the last time I was here,
litter box was over there. Yeah.

What I'm seeing now, litter box over
here.

I still got a minor problem with it,
though.

If I'm chompy and I'm in here and I'm
doing that, then

that sound alone is causing Bitten to
come in here. Sure enough, as I

in the litter box.

Bitten came out of nowhere.

You see that? Yeah, see, look at that
face.

He's like, what are you doing in my
ball? Look at him. He doesn't even like

in there. We have to change up that
sound altogether.

And my idea is that we try a completely
different type of litter. Oh. Because if

we could just change up the sound, then
we change up the association.

As I was standing there with Kevin and
Megan, I looked into Quinn's room. I see

Chompy under the crib. So it was time to
go into Quinn's room and spend some

time with Chompy.

It's okay.

Little chompy.

Even though she was under the crib, I
felt really confident that with some

treats, I'd be able to pull her out.

Little chompy.

Come on.

Good girl.

This is pretty amazing. I mean, the last
time I was here, she wouldn't have

anything to do with me.

Oh.

I'm just shocked that she came out.

Even with me, she wouldn't let me pet
her for very long.

Chompy coming out from under the crib
and feeling comfortable around us was

huge. Now our next goal is to get Bitten
and Chompy in the same room without

killing one another, and that's where
the circle game comes in. I want these

guys moving in circles, but opposite
each other. The idea is I don't want her

even know that Bitten's in the room,
kind of. Chompy. Do you see how between

every treat she's still looking around,
she's still trying to figure out what's

going on, she's still a little hesitant?
Yeah. By the time I come back here, I

don't want to see any hesitance
whatsoever.

Chompy kept looking behind her. That was
her acting like prey again. Those are

the moments we have to eliminate all
together in order for these guys to ever

have a chance of living in peace
together.

You guys ready for some homework?

Yeah. All right. Now, the first thing is
I want you to continue the circle game.

The next thing, I don't want Chompy
going to the garage at night.

We have tried bringing Chompy in
overnight, and it usually results in

fights in the middle of the night. It
was like running through the house,

growling, hissing, screaming kind of a
fight. So I am really not looking

to having Chompy inside at night.

Bitten's big play session.

Let's space it about, I would say, an
hour to an hour and a half before you go

to bed at night. Okay. I'm hoping to see
a more confident Chompy, you know, a

cat that isn't going to hide and act
like this is her home.

I never thought about it until you just
said it right now, that Chompy does not

act like this is her home. She acts like
the garage and outside is her home.

Yeah. He's saying that really is like,
yeah, I'd really like to see that.

Remember, at the end of the day, I want
you to be able to spend more time with

Quinn without worrying about Kat and
Fight.

And catfights. Yeah, there are some
miraculous changes going on in that

But all it takes is one stare down, one
weird look, one time the chompy's

feeling a little edgy and run, and we're
back to square one. So I'm not sure at

all how this is going to end unless
these guys stay 110 % vigilant.

that we established from the last time I

was here just continued because these
guys were doing well. There were just

backslides in terms of the violence. I
just want to see that completely over.

What is this?

I'm absolutely, I'm like, I'm blown away
right now. Yeah.

Chompy is out walking around, being a
part of everything, rubbing up against

legs, jumping up on the couch.

Not the cat that I know. We did the
circle game and we noticed that Chompy

more intent on the toy. So then we
started playing with both of them in the

space at the same time.

And they would give each other the
respect.

No aggression between them at all.

It was none. No attacks.

No attacks.

No attacks.

Yeah. When I first met Chompy, she was
invisible. As a matter of fact, I didn't

meet Chompy. I didn't meet Chompy until
the second time I came over here because

she was so petrified. She had no
confidence.

She felt like she was going to get
attacked at all times. And to see her

around this room with all the self
-confidence in the world and this, I

here. This is mine.

I knew that everything was going to be
okay. Keeping her in all the time, I

think, has really helped her to realize
that this is her house. Yeah. She is

safe in it. And I think it helped Bitten
understand that, you know, this is her

house, and she is here all the time, so
back off.

The fact that Chompy...

Doesn't have to sleep in the garage
anymore.

That's part of the reason why we're
seeing that cat today the way we are.

finally, in the words of Megan, home. Do
you feel differently towards Chompy at

this point? Oh, yeah. I love Chompy. How
are you feeling about Bitten? I

actually like Bitten now.

Very nice.

It's much nicer. And for you as well.

Team Chompy, team Bitten no more. Makes

love Bitten just as much as I love

We changed cat litter, and she's been
able to use the box now.

Bitten had a whole bunch of signals that
said it's time to attack Chompy. One of

those things was the litter. So my idea
was, let's get a different type of

litter that's not clay, so every time
that Chompy scratches, it doesn't make

sound, and she gets to go in peace.

Team Bitten, Team Chompy, done.

We don't have to worry about anything
anymore. These guys are a family now.

It makes me so happy to see her enjoy

developing a relationship with them.

Watch out for crazy chompy cat. They
