don't have many more options than to

leave. And cat guardians have reached
their emotional limit. Just get rid of

cat named Big Boy, and Big Boy's

aggressive tendencies are getting so in
the way that they're socializing, taking

a hit. They don't even have friends come
over anymore.

help them get social back in their

Shoshana and I have been best friends
for about four years, and we've lived

together for two years.

We have two cats.

Cutie and Big Boy.

Cutie is Big Boy's mother. She was a
stray cat. We noticed she was pregnant,

we let her come in our apartment.

She gave birth in my bedroom.

All the kittens died within a week, and
Big Boy was the only survivor.

It was very traumatic for the both of
us.

But it turns out that he is horrible.

He's a monster. He attacks both of us.

He attacks Cutie. Big boy, stop it!

He climbed all over the door, all over
the window, and he breaks out of the

house.

He peed and pooped on everything.

Poop and piss.

He's horrible.

Our friends are very afraid of Big Boy.

Unfortunately, Cutie's just had another
litter of kittens. Now there's seven

cats in the house.

And it's very stressful. It's out of
control.

Kind of like we're becoming like crazy
cat ladies.

boy and everything that he does. So now

walk around thinking that he doesn't
really exist.

I have given Nicole an ultimatum. It's
big boy or me. Big boy doesn't change,

I think it's not the greatest situation
I'm put in that I have to choose between

my cats and my roommate, but I'm very
attached to him.

So that makes me sad because she's my
best friend, so I don't want her to move

out.

you're going to introduce him to Big

And I was like, oh, you're right. I have
to cancel. I called and canceled. We

And people start to think that I'm that
way, too.

I'm ready to pack my bags and move.

Nicole and Shoshana are young 20
-somethings. These guys should be kind

living it up. I'm going to give this any
way that I can help these guys restore

some balance in their lives, because
right now, there's none.

When did he start getting aggressive
towards you guys?

Maybe two or three months. Whenever he
attacked his mother for the first time,

they would get in really, really scary
fights.

Wow. Okay. The first nine weeks of a
kitten's life are absolutely crucial in

terms of their behavior, their social
learning, the cues that they have. And

without any siblings around him
whatsoever, Big Boy was forced to turn

mom, Cutie, for those cues, and she
rejected him. Now I'm beginning to

understand why he's just so bad around
people. We do have a litter of kittens

here.

Cutie's not Spade, right?

What about Big Boy? No, he's not. No.

So Big Boy can be the dad.

He could be, yeah. Why are they intact?

I wasn't thinking this could happen
again.

If it hasn't already happened, it can
happen again like now.

What's your plan with the kittens, by
the way? Oh, we're giving them away. I'm

definitely giving them away. Take the
kittens?

Okay. It is so frustrating to see how
irresponsible these girls have been with

their cats. And now they have this
litter of kittens that they're just

give away.

And I can only hope.

if they're going to give them away to
responsible pet guardians.

So this is where big boy, in the middle
of the night, climbed on top of me and

my ex -boyfriend and peed on him.

On his chest. On his chest.

And shortly after that is when we broke
up. If I've ever heard a case for

neutering a cat, that would be it. Now,
why do we have this here?

That's to get out of the house.

You open the door, try to walk out.
You've got to show me. I don't know what

you're doing.

So you're trying to leave the house. You
do what? So I open the door.

Really? You both do that every time you
leave the house? Pretty good. Pretty

good, right? It's crazy.

Yeah. The problem is he wants to get out
that badly. He wants to get out that

badly because he's not neutered. And his
only job in this lifetime is to

repopulate your neighborhood.

So just as I was about to ask where he
was, there he is. There he is. There's

the boy.

After touring this entire house and not
seeing Big Boy once, I was getting kind

of worried that I would never see his
behavior. Now is my chance to see that

aggressive behavior firsthand.

I don't really want you to hide too
terribly much.

I know you don't like it in there.

So, I'm going to come out here.

Son of a gun.

I was providing him very little escape
in that very narrow kitchen, so when he

finally did get an angle, he darted. He
went into Nicole's room, went under a

blanket, and just disappeared.

I'm actually really interested to watch
him move around. So you guys come back

in here with me, and then we're just
going to chill and wait to see what

happens. Okay.

When we had some quiet, it took minutes,
and big boy came out. Oh, boy. Yeah.

He just does not understand his own
body.

He doesn't speak cat even remotely.

He flunked, you know.

Watching him go after toys was amazing
because it confirmed my belief that this

boy doesn't know how to speak cat.

When he hunts for a mouse, he'll take
the mouse in his mouth and then he'll

immediately drop it to try to figure out
what's going on because he doesn't know

how to hunt.

So, there's a couple of different layers
of what we're dealing with here.

Obviously, the first layer is hormonal.
The other part of him is...

He has no language of cat vocabulary,
and he's just sort of making it up as he

goes along.

These are things that we can teach him,
I think. But there's no way that we're

going to get anything done right now
without him getting neutered and without

Cutie getting spayed.

Like today.

After he comes back and he starts to
settle back into the new reality, let's

take advantage of the fact that we got a
whole bunch of kittens here that are

learning by leaps and bounds every day.
And this is the point in his life where

he stopped learning, right? So during
play, I want to start actually getting

involved in that way, like he's the
biggest second grader in the room. Let

kittens help him out with. Even though
these girls still plan on giving these

kittens away, we might as well still use
them while they're here and help.

Take big boy back a grade to kid in
kindergarten and teach him how to

play. Also, I'm going to start re
-involving you into his life. I think

important for you to start re -engaging
with him because it is a way of bonding

and it's a way of proving your
importance.

Okay? It does bother me having to do all
this homework after I come home after a

long day of work because I just want to
chill out and not have to deal with him.

So they're sort of acting as this

communicative and social bridge for him.
And as long as he has that bridge, we

have hope. Now, in terms of him
attacking, what's going on with that?

So he had laughs.

And he never returned any of my phone
calls.

Like I said the last time I was here,
neutering big boys is going to solve

of the problems, but not all of them. We
have to find a way to eliminate all

attacks because, after all, one attack
is too many. Let's take a look around,

see what's changed since the last time I
was here. And hopefully we get to run

into big boys. I haven't seen the boy

of reassociating relationships.

When we saw Big Boy, I decided to take
that opportunity and try to engage him

As I've seen before, Big Boy is clearly
afraid of strangers. But instead of

lashing out aggressively like he did the
last time, this time he was just

sitting calmly on the bed. Now, if we
could just get him to do that, we'd show

Sean and Nicole's gift.

Now with that, I can start giving you
guys some homework.

So, first of all, we have the exercise
in and out of the front door. Pretty

simple. Let's get that done with your
friends.

The next thing is, let's talk about the
kittens for a second. Are all of them

spoken for? Yes. They're going to leave
in about two more weeks. Okay.

I love the fact that you've found homes
for them, but let's take it that next

step. We ask them, make sure that as
soon as you have them, that you're going

spay and neuter them, that you are not
going to declaw them, that if...

If there is ever a problem that you call
me, this is a commitment that I made as

their foster parent, and this is a
commitment that I ask you to make as

adopter. If you're responsible for
kittens coming into this world, and

going to adopt them out to somebody, you
have to lay down the law, so to speak,

in the form of a contract. This is the
bond that Shoshana and Nicole made when

they let this cat get pregnant in the
first place.

Finally, one of the big issues I saw
when I first met you was Shoshana, you

completely divested yourself.

Now, you're more bought in, right? A

I mean, I think Shana has a better, I
think she's interacting with Big Boy

better. But I think there could be more
effort on her part.

here, the neutering took care of almost

of Big Boy's aggression except for the
one directed at strangers.

So what I wanted to do was retrain Big
Boy so that he would associate their

friends and, more importantly, their
date with Treat.

That's just who he is with me, and

I'm trying to just tell him that I'm not
a threat, so I'm giving him a little

bit of that slow blink in action.

That slow eye blink that I do, what I
call the cat I love you, it's basically

this way that we can communicate with
cats, all of us. It's slowly, just

at them softly and saying, I love you.

I'm just trying to get him to return a
blink to me, and he is so close right

now. I took my time and did it over and
over again, and finally, he returned it

to me.

At that moment, I knew that me and him
were on the same team, we're talking the

same language, and he was going to be
okay.

We've gotten rid of all the problems.

If I gave him to somebody and he died a
month later, I would feel like that was

comfortable environment.

I guess I just never realized until this
moment how much you

love Pump.

I feel, you know, I hate being the bad
guy.

If this work with Jackson doesn't work,
it's going to be a sad ending for all of

us.

Pump is 23 years old. That's
extraordinarily old for a cat. The

the neighborhood of 15, 16.

Rehoming him right now would simply be a
death sentence for him. So I have to

make sure that he stays right here.

Well, Mr. Pump, I would assume.

So tell me, he looks totally chill.

And actually, he was an ex -girlfriend's
cat.

And I've had him for about 12 years.

I think with his age, the last couple
years, he's gotten progressively more

whiny. I mean, he's not being loud now,
but he wakes up in the middle of the

night.

And then when I created my healing space
here in the house and needed to block

him off, he really protested that. And
he continuously breaks into the room and

he pooped on my massage table. Then
he'll poop and pee outside of the litter

box. That was kind of the message, like,
hey, this is my place.

I have never seen projection.

to this level before. You lock him away,
he had separation anxiety, and he peed

and he pooped. And that's very simple.
Just don't do it anymore.

It's obvious there's human issues going
on here. Now, what I might do is I would

want to put him outside, but then if he
doesn't want to be outside, he'll sit at

that front door and meow.

So then I lock him in the back room and
he'll meow and you can hear everything

in this house. It's antagonistic. It's
like, you want this? I want that. And

like, is this how it's going to be when
I'm home with the baby and trying to

juggle everything?

Where has the discussion gone with you
guys, I guess? I've given Luke an

ultimatum that either we fix Pump's
behavior or he's got to go.

Really? Honestly? A 23 -year -old cat?
What has this cat done to you? There is

no reason to rehome this cat at 23 years
old. He's been with Lucas for 12 of

those years. 12 years forms a bond that
you can't just ask to walk away.

If you rehome this cat, the stress alone
could kill him.

What I want to do is I just want to go
into the places that are the most

important. All right.

seeing today is a relationship between

two of you that was never built.

The bond never happened fully between
us. And then he's energetically linked

the ex -girlfriend because that's how he
came into their relationship.

I know people always, when I say, and
it's his ex -girlfriend's casting, oh,

know, like that's the problem. And there
is something.

to be said about that. I think that one
of the things that maybe you're not

looking at is that there's a reason why
he's in your life right now.

Whether it is you bringing healing to
him or him bringing healing to you, or

both. I think in a healing space, a cat
is an amazing component.

Basically, I see where he's going.

first animal client because it is
something that's going to benefit your

relationship with him next i'd like to
hook you up with a vet friend of mine on

know what his blood says and what his

says at this age there's no way that
something's not a little off and finally

think that pump can bring a lot to your
practice and and a lot to your client So

I want to see that happen, and that's
allowing the space to be open again.

leads us to believe that it's medical.

Maybe with some medication, we might
start to see a change.

I just want to know where you're at
right now for your acceptance of having

I don't know. There's certain behaviors
still they have to change, and it's kind

of like, well, we'll just have to see.

There's still a big part of me that
feels that it would just be better if

wasn't here anymore.

Maybe Pump symbolizes a part of my

A vision board is something I've used in
my life before. You see things that

represent what you want your life to be,
you put them on the board.

Cats can play such a huge part in
spirituality and they have.

These come from Buddhist temples in
Myanmar and Thailand and where the monks

have accepted them as teachers and

add this energy to the environment,
which is where I wanted to take it. In

homework, A, I would sure love to see
you add to this and build a vision. And

this is partly about Pump. This is also
about the gift that you have to share

with all animals and their people.

Also, I'd like you to find...

Whatever it takes, if it's a shelf or
something like that, to divide the ends

expanding this energy practice to

animals? I love being a part of just
seeing it take shape.

vibe to it altogether, which is amazing
