I am pretty excited
about this opportunity

to go racing with
Patrick Blakeney-Edwards, my mate.

There's a slight issue in that
to race with him at his level,

I've gotta upgrade
my racing licence,

but I've done a bit
of reading and researching,

and to do that, I just need to do
a little bit of marshalling
and another race.

So, thinking about it,
that's like a win-win.

So, I got to do a bit more racing
to do some more racing.

Which is why I've dragged
the MGB out of storage

and I'm taking it into the workshop
to give it a once over
and, this is good.

it's not gonna explode and it works.

They enjoy it on the day, being

that they enjoy it.

furniture and then deliver it
in my little van.

he's launching a new boutique

British motorcycle brand
and wants our help.

This is awesome. This is gonna be
The Smallest Cog's

first collaboration
with a manufacturer in a brand.

some suggestions for colours.

When are you hoping to be

I wasn't expecting that.
Two consecutive weeks.

to see a one piece Renault van.

what we can do and, hopefully,

a race car crash coming,
and I know it's my mate in the car,

I've worked with him for,
measure in decades,

on Grand Tour and Top Gear.

He's a mad, keen racer
in his classic Mini,

and, well, as I just saw,
he bent it at an event.

But the good news is,
he's brought it to me
to get it mended.

and see the wreckage.

All sound men have a van.

And there's his van. There will be
a soldering iron in there,

lots of different types of tape.
But more importantly, behind it,
there's his little race car.

Well, it was a bit lovelier.

This is the problematic corner.

is the wrong shape now.

All we need to do is get Matt

nothing more than getting things
in the right shape.

If you think about it,
it is an interesting time,
Marc's Mini coming in

because, well, it's kind of proof

that there is work
to be had from the racing world.

So, I am gonna take on board
Hadrian's suggestion.

But he, he didn't say,
"Don't do any more racing."

He specifically said, "Don't do any
more racing using Cog resources
and money and people."

See now, I think of a way
around that.

I've put two coats of colour on,
I'm really happy with the outcome.

Anyone can do this.
It's just standard straight colour.

We've got 10 tanks for me
to have a play with, and I can
literally do whatever I want.

So, that's where you've got
to show your skill.

Bit early for lunch, innit?

You wouldn't wanna eat this.
That's not paint, is it?

No, this is urea. Urea? Yeah.

From what animal? Normally a pig.

So, that's a pot of pig pee?
Basically, yeah, but it comes
in a crystallised form.

So, what we do,
we dissolve that in water,

reacts with the paint
and cracks the paint.

Doesn't come out of the pig
like that. No.

Yeah, that would be--

Have you done this before?
No. You're taking a piss.

(BOTH LAUGHING) You are literally.

Dip that in. Get that nice and wet.

Oh, it's warm, pig pee. You don't
mix this with the paint then?

No, no. This is going to
recrystallise on the tank.

Is that the idea?
Once it crystallises,
you put a coat of black on it.

And we won't know
what pattern we've got

until we've wiped off the crystals.

You can see slightly, but you won't
get the proper effect until we put
the black on. Plenty of pig pee.

Right. Am I doing this? Yes, please.

It's a brilliant theory.
It works on the Internet.

Now, let's have a go in
a professional workshop situation.

I've just been told Hammond
is putting his hands on a paint gun.

So content for the Mac Motorcycle
is content for the workshop
because Richard's on a gun.

Just clean it off now.
I need to take
just the crystals... Yeah.

...leaving the silver
to shine through from below.

Right, and then just gently...
Very gently, yeah.

Oh, it sort of reveals itself.

That is the random effect
you get from the crystals.

These look like ferns here.
Look at that.

It is a natural effect.
Crystals form naturally,
sort of nature did that.

And then the last phase
is we then paint

special type of paint
over the top of the whole thing,

and where the silver is,
it will shine through that paint.

That's exactly right.

And this is the Smallest Cog
in action, eh?

Teamwork making the dreams work, ya.

It's quite artistic,
this process.

This is what I want us to do.

Do that bit more, add value,
do something clever
and a bit special.

No idea what they'll make of it.

they're actually quite conservative

They wanna set up a good functioning
little motorcycle company.

And I've presented them with
a variety of options, including

a petrol tank painted using pig pee.

that colour produced that effect.

Okay. We've got this little mini in,
the rear corner damage.

The sub-frame
isn't lining up anymore.

Just in this corner,
we can clearly see that

we're probably at least 10 mil out.

Best way to straighten it
is obviously to strip it
to a bare shell,

put this car on a jig
and they can reverse the impact.

Erm, however,
it's not concours car.

It's been raced through
most of its life.

And there's no point in spending
thousands of pounds,

so we're gonna try and do
an alternative way
of, kind of, fixing it.

(SOFT MUSIC PLAYING)

Matt's hoping his improvised
contraption will do the same job
as a frame jig,

which stops a car twisting
during heavy repair work.

I'll feed this bar up to you, Isaac.

This looks like
a seven-arm operation.

The bolted-on aluminium frame
should prevent excessive movement
when the 10-tonne hydraulic ram

pushes the body shell square again.

Well, that's the theory.

If it doesn't work,
it was your idea. Was it?

Oh, yeah.

So, after looking at it earlier,
it's got to be 8-mil further.

It might look a bit odd measuring
Marc's Mini, but actually
it's really important

because of the way a mini is built.

Up until the mini arrived,
most cars had been built with,

like a separate chassis,
and then a body bolted onto that.

Whatever body he wants,
the two were separate.

The Mini was groundbreaking because
it's a very early Monaco car.

Means there is no separate chassis.
The body kind of is the chassis.

It relies on its shape
for its strength.

Okay. You ready? Yeah. Let's go.

I don't normally get nervous,
but I'm quite nervous.

We've gone 3-mil so far.

It looks like it's pushing
the back quite squarely.

I can see it moving the arch.
And it's straightened this
kink out from the outside.

That kink's virtually gone now.

and use the upright
as tension to pull.

of straightening it
when you don't have a jig.

The thing I'm particularly
excited about is I tried

to bolt the suspension up
after I crashed it, it didn't fit.

And now - It does.
It's a great sign.

I'm very pleased. I was involved
in straightening it.

I played, as I recall,
a pretty pivotal role.

Pivotal. I heard it was pivotal.
It was, it was largely down to me.

Probably that it... Worked.
that it works.

The other thing about this car,
of course, because it's a race car,

how would it be up
against my little MGB?

This would be a hell lot faster,
wouldn't it? Hmm, I dunno.

Come testing. Can we be quite clear
until I get a lot better?

There's no way am I going up
against you on a track

cos you've done this a lot
and it'd be annoying.

I've done it a bit. I'll be
very rude if you overtake me

I can accidentally... Oh, no!
I know where to get it fixed.

You could take out an entire field
of race cars. And bring it back.

And have six months' worth of work.

They've done a really nice job
and treated it with love and care,
which is the important thing.

It's a really special car to me.
I've known it a very long time.

So, I'm really pleased
what they've done.

Today we are packing,
ready to go to TT.

In 39 years of motorcycle riding,
that's something I've never done.

I've never made it to possibly
the most famous motorcycle race

and was the longest
running in the world.

But we're not all going as tourists.
This is work.

We've arranged a little bit of
a launch event for Mac Motorcycles.

Obviously, I'm packing my bike kit
because you can't go to the TT
and not ride the bike.

The plan is to cross
to the Isle of Man by sea

after meeting Ian
and Ellis at the port.

Hell of a lot of bikes, yeah.

These are our people.

Aha! Hey! Gentlemen. Good morning.

You managed to navigate your way in.
We did.

Erm, I am very excited
about this whole mission.

I didn't think there'd be this many
people, to be honest. Obviously
it's big, but it's absolutely crazy.

the fun and serious work
launching your new brand begin.

We've got the bikes,
journalists have been invited.

We'll get awareness of the brand,
awareness of your bikes

to just say, "We're on our way."

I really hope Lewis' social media
expertise outweighs

TT motorcycle race.

But it's not just the racing
to be excited about.

There is a launch.

What's amazing is there's
thousands of bikes below deck,

but everyone's looking at my work,
saying how good the paintwork is.

It just makes you proud
to put my name to them bikes.

What makes the Isle of Man TT
so famous isn't just the fact

that it's the oldest motorcycle
race event in the world.

It's also the most dangerous,
with riders getting up to speeds

of over 200 miles an hour on a track
consisting entirely of public roads.

This is motor cycling's
hallowed ground.

Nearly 40,000 bikers
make the annual pilgrimage.

(SOFT MUSIC PLAYING)

Can't believe we made it.
Looks a bit like Blackpool,
doesn't it?

We're officially launching
the bikes tonight.

Getting the attention of these
diehard biking aficionados

won't be easy,
but Lewis assures me it's in hand.

I've had a look on the phone,
and we've hit nearly 175,000 views

on the little video that
Hammond did on the ferry,

spreading the word
about our event this evening.

I was doing some
schmoozing last night,
and the TT have said

that we can lead the Legacy Lap.

So these four are gonna lead

the 1,000 motorbikes
around the full 37.5 mile track.

Really? Yeah. Never.

That's quite a cool launch.
Just say, just say that again.

We're gonna be at the front.
Be at the front
showing off the bikes. Cool.

I don't know the way.

I'm lucky. I've done a lot of stuff.
I've never done this.

I mean, you can actually
feel the ground shaking.

That's bent, I'm gonna stall,
and then the whole thing. (LAUGHTER)

Everyone on their sides starts.

Oh, movement is happening,
literally we're off.

Oh, that is incredible. It is.

Sometimes the queue behind
is eight miles. I know. It's nuts.

That's just forever.

It's incredible.
Miles and miles of bikes.

Every possible type you can imagine.

Is this the circuit?
This is the circuit.

But it's stone walls and they pull,
like, 100 and whatever along here.

An average of over 130 mile
an hour. It's insanity.

There's manhole covers.

Oh, my God, that's tight.

Imagine that. I've got it wrong,
I've hit a church.

(LAUGHING)

(HORNS HONKING)

They're actually waiting
to cross the road. (LAUGHING)

Did I see the sign
for 19 miles back there?

I don't know.
Which means we're only halfway.

I need a wee already. Me too.

So, now we're gonna go up
into the mountain.

Looks a bit misty up there.

It must feel suddenly very lonely
when you're racing.

It's all busy, and then suddenly,
big speeds coming up.

The Legacy Lap pays homage to the
incredible bravery of the riders

who put their lives
on the line to race at the TT.

I could get a little bit
emotional about this.

I'm a biker.
I have been all my life.

And look at this.
We're coming down now to Ballacrye,
which is a really famous turn.

Wow. (LAUGHS)

Right now it's quite
graceful and flowing.

What it must be like
at race pace, I cannot imagine.

I think we need to do more bikes
at the Smallest Cog.

It's a fact.

The lads are on their way down
from the circuit.

We're here at the
Paramount City Cafe,
and here they come.

I can see Jamie's flashing
beacons leading the pack.

It's like the red arrows.

How does it feel having your bike
running up and down at the TT?

This is the most
extraordinary sensation.

It really is. It's cool, isn't it?
Thirty six or whatever years ago,

working in your dad's
antique pine place to here.

I'm speechless.
Absolutely speechless.

Respect duly paid,
time for business.

They all look lovely.
They're fresh and ready.
But what's the plan of action?

You've got a plan for If we get five
or 50 people? Yes, we do. Yeah.

The power of social media.

Something tells me
it's gonna be quite busy.

Feeling good.
All my paintwork is on display,

which is really nice for guys
to see. Bikes looking amazing.

There's a lot of people
coming in now,
and they're actually

stopping people at the door,
so it's getting really busy,
so it's quite quite good.

Lewis, try not to run over
any of the attendees with the bike

they've come to see launched.

This is great. I mean,
this is great for our social.

I mean, the videos I'm getting now
are just gonna pop off online.

Setting up any kind of mark,

sounds like utter insanity.

Such a reaction. Couple of hundred
people here, probably more.

Everyone giving us
great compliments about the bike.

So, this one is set up
as a cafe racer.

I think seeing people love the bike
and say how different it is,

we never thought that
it would be this good.

People are looking at the bikes,
and really, it's down
to those two now.

It's their business.
It's their creation.

Also, you know, how fabulous
the paintwork is obviously

because if you're
a specialist in painting vehicles,

and you get to design the look
of a brand-new vehicle,

that's kind of cool.
The better they do,
the better the Smallest Cog does.

It's kind of a win-win-win.
