But one of the reasons why I was very
independent in life was because I

And there's no domestic abuse centers
then, safe centers. There was no safe

My brother who died, he was an
alcoholic.

And my middle sister?

She's a bit of a drinking problem.

My therapist said the only thing that
saved me was I was the eldest, so my

mother gave me a lot of responsibility.
I was like the second mother, and I read

books. I put myself into books. I would
read eight books a night until like four

in the morning to just escape.

I'm numb to things. I don't always pay
attention. That's what I was just going

to say. I zone out. On TV, they go,
don't you notice the cameras? I don't

the cameras. Like when I grew up, I
didn't notice my father screaming and

yelling and beating at my mother. I
blocked it out. So when we're being

This is something I had no idea about.

I feel like you also don't like to show
a vulnerable side of yourself.

I think that Ramona, probably growing
up, tuned a lot out. I think that's

For me, I went into this experience with
like two mindsets.

I knew I already had.

Two friends. And I was excited to make
more friends.

I only know one way to be a friend. It's

try to make things easy for you.

about considering giving Kenya the

shine finally.

bonding on this trip way more than we've

Looking back on this trip, I laughed so

girl's trip, the laughing.

What I learned about myself is the
energy that I surround myself with,

the energy I give off.

And that's what I've noticed on this
trip. I had all good vibes and I was

good vibes right back. So it was like a
peaceful Teresa.

When you push my button, then you see
the other kind of Teresa.

I've been doing this for nine or ten
years, and it is the first time that

really felt accepted. I feel validated.
I feel like these women really see me
