But your next words are gonna make me doubt that?

It's just...

I think your attitude that Jacob is the only person

who needs therapy is a tiny bit harsh.

So you blame me for all of this?

I'm the one who made my position clear from the beginning.

I know. But even though Jacob went into the marriage knowing

that you didn't want kids,

something has obviously changed for him.

Well, there's nothing I can do about that.

[scoffs] I know you think that this is just a Jacob problem,

but you married him,

and I assume you still love him.

So doesn't that make it a Jacob and Naomi problem?

I didn't change.

He did.

Well, problem solved.

So put this one in the reject pile for starter marriages

I just feel a little protective when it comes to our girl.

No apology needed.

I know Dani tends to bring out the loyalty

in people who love her.

Bill Hamilton aside.

[groans] Please,

do not get me started on that man.

You know, it's really easy to be loyal to someone like Dani

who puts her heart out there the way she does.

You know, I knew that she was going to be huge

when I met her for the first time backstage at a show.

I mean, of course she was gorgeous, but there was this...

this confidence just rolling off that 17-year-old that just...

Well, it really made an impression on me.

[chuckles softly] I wish I could have seen her in action.

There was this one designer

whose entire line looked like it was just designed

to devour the models-- everything was huge, oversized.

-Mm. -His-his concept was to say

how fashion rules your life. [chuckles]

So he picked the youngest, greenest models he could find,

thinking they would just fade into the woodwork.

But not our Dani.

Her eyes just blazed

as she strode that monstrosity down the runway.

And, you know,

that was the only dress in the entire line

that anyone ever remembered.

That sounds like Dani all over.

I'd like to think that I discovered her, but...

she was a force from the very beginning.

Yeah.

-Her passion is incredible. -Mm.

The way she goes all out for everything she does.

People should be knocking down her door.

I agree.

Unfortunately, this business has a very long memory, and...

and there are those that remember that they wanted

and needed Dani at the height of her fame,

with all of her charisma,

and she was not there for them.

She chose to raise a family.

I didn't say it was justified.

But it cost her some gigs.

Their loss.

The thing is, this time,

I think it will be Dani who takes the biggest hit.

If we pass on this offer,

it's going to seriously damage her comeback.

They can't be right. Dani Dupree was one of the biggest names

in the biz.

A lot has changed since Dani owned the runways.

Back then, she wasn't showing up at weddings,

taking potshots at the bride.

Her volatility has made her a curiosity.

-Which is good. -Yes.

And your sudden marriage has made you both media darlings,

which is-- which is even better.

Which is why I want so badly

and I'm pushing so hard

for the two of you to take this couples campaign.

I don't want to have to be the one to tell Dani

that her star...

...has burnt out.

With you back on as emcee,

that makes our fundraising goals a whole lot more attainable.

Besides, what would WinterFest be without you?

Mm. Well, that brings us to the tricky part.

It's just posing for a few photographs.

I mean, come on.

What could be the harm in that? Hmm?

Yeah, I've been so caught up in my own mess,

I hadn't really focused on Mom's quickie Vegas wedding.

In fact, I basically kicked Andre out of her house

the other day so I could talk to her alone.

Oh, that sounds rude.

-I didn't mean to be. -Mm.

But I'm sure it gave him the impression

that I disapprove of their relationship.

And do you?

I wouldn't say that.

-[chuckles] -But our mother does tend

to make impulsive decisions.

And then she digs her heels in

and refuses to admit she made a mistake.

So you do think their marriage is a mistake?

That remains to be seen.

[chuckles softly]

I just don't want Mom to get hurt again,

the way she did when Dad dumped her for Hayley.

Dani, to what do we owe the pleasure?

-I was just leaving. -Oh, don't rush off

Thank you for the money, Bill.

I'll be in touch about the rest.

Ta!

Why are you giving her money?

And what rest of it?

Didn't she get enough in the divorce?

I'm making a donation to the Dupree Heritage Foundation.

I trust that's not a problem.

[sighs]

Of course not.

It's your money, and you can spend it any way you like.

I just wanted to be sure that Dani wasn't trying

to take advantage of your generosity.

It's not likely.

Between the money she made modeling,

the divorce settlement,

her future inheritance, and her investment portfolio,

Dani's set for life.

But I appreciate you looking out for me.

Well, it's my job to take care of you.

And I promise I will.

-[door closes] -[footsteps approaching]

Hey. I missed you this morning.

-I missed you more. -Mmm.

Okay, I need to tell you something right off.

Uh...

What'd you do now?

I went to Bill's office.

I know we've been talking about me keeping my distance from him,

and I have, but this was for charity.

I was purely there to raise money

for the Dupree Heritage Foundation.

Hope you got a big enough donation.

Oh. I did.

But in the interest of full disclosure...

Hmm?

...I also asked Bill for something else.

Dani wants you to emcee at her stupid party?

It's a charity event, sweetheart.

I've emceed it for decades.

And the fact that Dani and the Duprees want me to stay

in that role despite everything that happened is a big deal.

And Dani was quick to make it clear that you're invited

-as well. -Uh, well,

I should think so.

I'm your wife, aren't I?

And I couldn't be happier about that.

[sighs] Listen,

I still have a little more work to finish up

before I can take you to lunch, okay?

Oh. Why don't we order in instead?

How about that Italian place?

Oh, their carbonara reminds me of our honeymoon.

Mm. You know, I still feel terrible

that we had to cut our trip short because of business.

Babe, listen, there'll be plenty of time for travel

in our many years together.

Mm. You know what?

I promise, baby, when my schedule permits,

I'm gonna take you back to Rome.

Show you all the rest of the sights.

Maybe we can go back to the Basilica of Saint Mary.

-[chuckles] -Get another chance

to put your hand in the Bocca della Verità.

Ha-ha-ha. You think it's so funny

that I didn't want to put my hand

-in that stupid statue's mouth. -[chuckles]

Mouth of Truth, indeed.

Listen, I promise, if--

when we go back to Rome,

I'll do it.

-Mm. -Unless you can think of better things

-I can do with my hands. -Oh.

I can indeed.

And, besides,

legend has it that it'll only bite your hand off

if you're a liar.

Which means you have nothing to worry about.

Like I told you back then, baby,

you're the most honest person I know.

Talk about a marriage that's a mistake.

[groans] I wouldn't trust Hayley as far as I could throw her.

But she does seem to make Dad happy,

so...

I do feel bad though.

I accused her of lying about her pregnancy.

Mom said when Hayley was miscarrying,

she came out of the bathroom covered in blood.

You can't fake that.

Well, you could.

It'd just be pretty complicated.

"Complicated."

Seems to be the word of the day.

I'm sure you and Jacob will figure out

how to work out your problems.

I sure hope so.

I really do love him.

I know.

And Jacob knows that, too.

Listen, anything you need,

I'm always here for you.

Well, except right now, 'cause I have a meeting with Kat.

[chuckles] That's fine.

I have a ton of work to do.

Okay. Talk soon, sis?

-Yeah. -I love you.

I love you, too.

I don't deny it's a tough situation.

Naomi seems adamant about not wanting kids,

and you seem like you came to the realization that you do.

Yeah.

And I'm the one that changed my position, I know.

I can't expect Naomi to do a full 180

and decide she wants to have kids, too.

But where does that leave us?

I'm gonna make a suggestion,

and I know it's gonna sound completely inadequate.

Okay. Go ahead.

This desire to be a parent is new for you.

-Mm. -I wonder if you're dreaming

about having a little boy,

teaching him to play ball,

all of those kinds of things?

Yeah. Of course.

But I wouldn't mind being a girl dad, too, you know?

Why don't you try working with kids.

Like volunteering with the foster care system

or Big Brother program.

Kat's boyfriend Tomas volunteers with them,

and there are plenty of kids who need mentoring.

Yeah, I'm sure that's true.

I realize that mentoring is nowhere near parenting,

and I understand all too well the desire to want a child.

But if you go hands-on with actual children first--

the yelling, crying, disobedient kind--

it might tamp down your urges.

I don't think so.

It might not.

But it will give you and Naomi time to assess your situation

and see what will actually make you both happy.

I appreciate the advice, Nicole.

And I'm grateful just for you listening.

But...

I won't take up any more of your valuable time.

Do reach out to one of the therapists I recommended.

I will tell you from firsthand experience,

the stress of trying to have a child

damaged my own marriage.

Irrevocably, as it turns out.

-Hey. -What are you doing here?

I heard you making plans with Chelsea this morning

before you left.

Oh, I hope I wasn't too loud.

I didn't want to disturb you.

You could never.

I just left your Aunt Nicole's office.

Really?

Yeah.

I took your suggestion to heart

that maybe I'm the one who should do therapy.

She wouldn't be my therapist, of course,

but I figured she'd be a good place to start.

She gave me the name of somebody I could talk to.

And I think I'm gonna make an appointment.

I think that's a good idea.

Maybe...

Maybe I could come with you.

Really?

Yeah. If you're okay with it.

Yeah. Yeah.

Look, I was thinking. [sighs]

Maybe couples therapy isn't such a bad idea after all.

Okay.

I'll see you tonight.

I can't wait.

[giggles]

Making plans with Diego?

What?

Oh, um... Yes.

Um, he's gonna teach me how to play pickleball.

More like "hide the pickle." Am I right?

I beg your pardon?

Oh. Does he make you beg?

He never did with me.

Vanessa,

I don't know what you are suggesting,

-but-- -I'm not suggesting anything.

I'm just letting you know Diego works for me now.

So you may want to be careful how you speak to me.

And Joey.

In other words, be more discreet from now on.

You know how people around here love to talk.

Have fun tonight.

Bow-bow-bow. [chuckles]

Hey, boss man.

I wanted to, um...

clarify a little misunderstanding

we may have had.

About?

Uh, the conversation we had about Bill Hamilton's wife.

The one you're having a passionate affair with.

Uh...

Yeah.

Well, not exactly.

See, she came to thank me for taking her to the hospital.

But all that about the two of us hooking up, you know, I...

made that up.

I just wanted to impress the boss.

I see.

That it?

[chuckles softly]

What do you mean?

You sure you're not trying to cover some other reason

you're meeting here with Hayley Hamilton after-hours?

Oh. Come on, Joey.

What other reason would there be?

I have no idea.

But I will figure it out.

Eventually.

-Mm. Mm. -Oh.

Oh. Well, it's not quite Rome,

but I guess it'll do.

[both chuckle]

Being together is what matters.

I agree.

Baby, you and this tea.

What? It's good for you.

Drink up.
