-Oh! -Oh.
Wow. If guilt had a look, you'd be the picture of it.
What were you looking at on there?
Here and early.
I brought Laura along to take notes and help organize.
Oh, you are so thoughtful.
-Hi. -Hello, nice to see you.
Make yourselves comfortable.
The Dupree Heritage Foundation WinterFest
is one of my favorite events of the year.
Thank you, Laura.
It is easily
one of my favorite traditions of ours as well.
Well, I'm glad to hear it. But this year
I want to change things up a bit.
โช โช
That took a while.
It's called shopping, and this is for you.
Vitamins.
special vitamins that help support...
you know, down there.
What's in them?
Uh, B12, B3, vitamin E, ginseng.
I get it.
I think I'll just stick to my usual morning java.
Okay,
but you might want to take some, even with coffee.
They're all designed to help encourage blood circulation.
Seriously? You just won't let it go, will you?
I'm healing fine.
Exactly in line with what the doctor said to expect.
That's great.
So you don't need to obsess over it.
Don't need to peddle me vitamins or whatever.
I know, Tomas.
It's just that... I feel terrible about
what I did to you.
I know you do.
You have made that so clear
that when we're together, you don't talk about anything else.
So, Kat, I need you to stop, okay?
Can you do that for me, please?
TED: Hey.
Hi.
Thanks for the breakfast invite.
Sorry it was last-minute, but I'm glad you, uh,
postponed your workout to make time for me.
Not a problem.
I love the breakfast menu here.
And frankly, I am starving this morning.
I just hope that my boss doesn't get on my case
for coming in late.
Ooh, that guy sounds like a real tyrant, huh?
Nah, he's actually not that bad.
LESLIE: I went trick-or-treating behind the gates
and collected more telephone numbers than I did candy.
There you go. See? Who needs Ted?
Well, he got to see my costume, too.
He was having a bad day, but it perked him right on up.
Leslie, we talked about this.
Throwing yourself at a man that has turned you down
so many times isn't good for your self-esteem.
Okay, don't worry, all right?
I wasn't trying to seduce him.
It's just a little light flirtation.
Just ease the tension, which it did very, very well.
Guilty? Me? You practically tiptoed in here.
You were so quiet, you startled me, babe.
Well, my apologies, love.
What were you looking at?
Just daydreaming about a beach vacation.
Now that the weather is starting to turn,
I was thinking about the sun and a beautiful sand beach
like the ones in St. Barts. Ever been?
Yeah, yeah, I have. It's stunningly beautiful.
Crystal clear water.
Mm. With Dani, I'm sure.
One more thing you've shared that I've missed out on.
Sounds like heaven.
Well, not to me, Because it's missing
the one thing that would make it an ideal vacation spot.
What?
You and one of your barely-there bikinis.
You know what? Let's do it.
Yeah, let's go.
Okay.
I am all about imagination and keeping up with the times.
Just don't tell me that you've gotten rid of
the charity auction. I already have
a long line of prizes lined up.
It's going to be different.
Oh, don't worry.
We are going to keep all of the joy and exuberance
and generosity of the night.
But this year,
more than any other,
we are going to shine a light where there is darkness.
Well, that sounds a very broad scope.
How will we bring about this winter miracle?
Well, we can't right all the wrongs
and injustices in the world.
We can certainly make a dent in the ones closest to home.
What are you thinking?
I've always had Barbara in mind
when I put together WinterFest,
and the way we've leaned into
benefiting mental health charities all through the years.
Of course, I couldn't say that openly
because of the way Barbara left this world,
but now I can't help but wonder, what if she
had the kind of support we've been working so hard to provide?
And what if others in the industry
had that same kind of lifeline?
So you want some of the proceeds to directly benefit
those in the music industry?
I do, absolutely.
That's a beautiful idea.
Mother, that sounds terrific.
So many music professionals are freelancers
that don't have access to health insurance.
Which is why I am hoping that you will speak
to the crucial need for mental health care at the event.
Yes, no one can get donors to open their wallets
like you, Nicole. Not even daddy.
I hate to bring this up.
I mean, this is such a wonderful cause,
but if we attach Barbara's name to it,
isn't that all of the reason Leslie will need
to demand we involve her?
I mean, as Barbara's daughter?
Or, if we don't allow her in,
wouldn't she just try to shut it down
or cause some kind of scene?
That is a valid point, Laura.
None of us have forgotten Leslie's many transgressions
against this community.
We cannot have a repeat of that kind of behavior.
So how do we get ahead of it?
So, I took your advice and I steered the conversation
toward things that we both had in common,
like fond memories, the daughter we both love.
I am glad to hear that.
Ted and I had a very pleasant conversation,
and it was... honestly, it was really sweet.
Like he actually remembered the early days
of our relationship.
I mean, he was never willing to talk about it before,
and he'd been driving me crazy acting like it never happened.
Like he wiped it from his memory the moment I left town.
But I always knew, though.
Sometimes when we're pushing too hard, people push back.
So, maybe you easing up a little gave him the space
to respond in a different way.
Maybe that's part of it.
But I don't know, it feels like there's more going on.
I mean, get this--
he said that he sees us becoming friends.
-Really? -Mm-hmm.
I know.
That is a big attitude shift.
Right?
But he was less hostile and calmer.
Hmm. Well, if I had to guess,
I'd say it has something to do with Eva.
I mean, she convinced me to give you a second chance,
so maybe she did the same thing with Ted.
He does seem to genuinely care about his daughter.
Mm. Now, that is for sure.
I think Ted recognizes
just how special our girl is.
I just realized, we haven't spent much time together
outside of the office since you moved back
into your old place, and that's on me.
I've been preoccupied. I've put everything on hold
to deal with my failing marriage.
That'll take some getting used to.
I think you put the right thing at the top of your list.
I don't blame you for trying to work things out with Nicole.
And another thing I've realized is I haven't
told you how much I appreciate you being
my staunchest supporter.
Always.
But the fact is, I've been pushing a boulder uphill
with Nicole, and it's getting me nowhere.
And at this point, I just need to accept the fact
that she's made up her mind.
If she changes it, she knows where to find me.
But until then, I need to focus my attention
on those things that I've been neglecting,
Especially you.
What if we fundraise for the same cause,
but without attaching Barbara's name to it?
That is an option, but I don't want
to sweep Barbara back into the shadows.
And give me a minute and I'll figure out
how to handle Leslie. But in the meantime,
let's keep it moving.
Dani, I want to hear all about the auction items
you have lined up so far.
Oh, well, for starters,
in house, the Dupree/Curtis Agency
is donating an all-expense paid trip
-to New York Fashion Week. -Ooh.
ChelseaKat is donating some of their
best-selling purses and Andre is volunteering a photo shoot.
But the biggest draw, if I can pull it off,
is a private lunch with a singing sensation
that is all the rage since their reunion concert.
The Articulettes!
What do you think?
I love that idea,
and I'm sure Tracy and Sharon will love it, too.
I've got to check and see
if they have time in their schedules.
But, you know, they've been touring a lot.
Oh, I hope it works out.
That would be such a huge draw.
Mrs. Dupree, you'll let me know as soon as
Tracy and Sharon confirm?
That way I can get word out to the press.
-Of course. -DANI: Okay, so who
do you want as your celebrity auctioneer?
Oh, maybe you can reach out to your friend Jackie,
the Anita Williams impersonator.
Actually, I was thinking Dani.
You did such a beautiful job at Nicole's award ceremony
and Chelsea's farewell fashion show.
I would be absolutely honored.
I appreciate it, really,
but you don't have to worry about me.
The last thing I feel is neglected,
and we see each other every day at work anyway.
I know, and you're great at your job.
You're smart, you're quick, and I'm really glad
I could give you that professional experience.
But I promise you, you'd get to know the Richardsons better.
And I kind of dropped the ball.
I mean, there's been a lot going on,
and I'm sure Martin and Smitty weren't exactly
making social calls when they were separated.
And then Andre marrying Nicole's sister,
who basically hates me,
so that's going to be awkward.
Well, Martin and Smitty are back together,
and Andre does not let Dani keep him away from his family.
If he was the judgmental type, he would have cut me
out of his life a long time ago.
Seems like you have a few people in your corner besides me.
I know.
And I really want you to know them.
Now, unfortunately, I don't know how the holidays
are gonna turn out.
I was hoping I would be
back in my house and I could welcome you
to some more traditional family celebrations.
But however it shakes out, I want you to be included.
You're a part of this family.
Thanks, Ted.
I really appreciate it.
And for the same reason,
I'd like it if you'd...
start calling me Dad.
Listen, I am really glad to get a preview
of some of our vacation activities,
but I think it's too late to plan for St. Barts.
Why?
Well, I was looking at private home rentals
so I could have you all to myself
on our own personal beach,
but everything I liked was booked solid.
Hmm. Okay.
Okay, well, I'll tell you what. I got another idea.
How about we look at houses for sale?
You think you could convince the seller
to lease us something short term?
No, no, Hayley, what I'm saying is,
you know, why don't we buy a vacation home there?
You know? I mean, it'd be a good investment,
and we'll always have a place to go in in case
we need a quick getaway.
Wow.
I guess I'll never get used to the way rich people think.
But isn't a vacation home a little extravagant?
No. Come on, please.
Nothing is too good for my baby.
My injury was embarrassing and awkward,
but it's a temporary inconvenience.
Someday, we might even laugh about it.
Okay, probably not, but the point is,
you can relax.
There's nothing that needs to be fixed,
and I'd really like it to stop being
the focal point of our lives.
Hey, Tomas, how's it hanging?
Hilarious, Chelsea.
The first 50 times.
Tell me you didn't just make a joke about his injury.
Tomas is a big boy. He can handle it.
And it's not like I could pretend I don't know.
You know, Chelsea, people are gonna
stop telling you things if you can't keep it to yourself.
Well, you didn't object when I spilled with you.
Yes, but did I say a word about it to Tomas?
No. You see how that works?
Uh, it's really okay, Madison.
Kat, this isn't about Tomas.
Madison is mad at me for a whole other reason.
Okay, Leslie, tell me honestly,
what do you think of Ted's offer?
Are you willing to settle for friendship?
I don't have any intention of settling for anything
ever again.
But the way I see it,
I mean, I don't think there's anything wrong
with starting a friendship and seeing how it's gonna go.
That's how it happened
when Ted and me got together the first time around.
Really? You were friends before you became lovers?
What? Girl, please. Yeah.
But he was unbelievably sad.
I would play this little game, right?
I would see, every time he'd come in,
how many times could I make him smile
each time I saw him?
And eventually, it got to the place where he would
come in, see me and light up.
He was such a sensitive man.
And I thought, "Oh,
this is the kind of man that will never hurt me."
And then he did.
And somehow, you still managed to forgive him.
How is that even possible?
I mean, after what you told me,
I don't know if I could.
It wasn't part of the plan, Jan.
[goofy laugh] "Plan," "Jan." That rhymes.
[laughing]: Stop.
But seriously, you know
the only reason I moved back to town was for Eva.
You wanted her to know the truth above all else.
She deserved what was rightfully hers.
A place in the Richardson family.
It's funny.
I thought that I'd have to force Ted to accept her.
Truly, everything I did was because
I thought I had to force it.
But he surprised me.
He's welcomed her with open arms.
Yeah.
Ted really has a lot of compassion
and understanding for Eva.
You really caught me off guard.
I mean, this is the last thing
I expected to hear this morning.
Or maybe ever.
You've been there for me.
Remember tucking me in
when I was in a really bad way?
Yeah, but this is top of the morning,
clear-eyed, sober you.
I'm processing.
There's that razor-sharp mind I admire.
I'd like to think you, uh, got that from me.
Okay...
...Dad.
Thank you.
Oh, and there's one other thing, Eva.
I'm not saying this out of
some sense of obligation,
but after spending the last several months
getting to know you, I really do think
you're amazing.
And I am proud...
...to be your dad.
Stop.
I'm not used to being hyped up like this.
Well, get used to it.
Because you deserve it.
And there's one other thing I want to tell you, and I...
...I hope this doesn't offend you.
Of course.
I know it couldn't be sunshine and rainbows.
You remind me...
...of your mom.
In all the good ways.
When I first met her, she was
a breath of fresh air and a force.
And so are you.
Now, obviously, I can't take credit
for the way that you were raised,
but I am honored
that you are my daughter.
Thank you.
Well, this is a great start, Mother,
but my day awaits.
As does mine.
-I have a full roster. -Okay.
If you want, I can stay and help you figure out
what we should put in the WinterFest swag bags.
That would be wonderful, Laura.
Thank you. And thank you all.
Of course.
-Bye, Mama. -Bye-bye.
Oh, hey, sissy. Hold on a sec.
We never talked about your date with Carlton.
How'd that go?
Sorry, there is nothing to report.
There was no date.
What do you mean? You had dinner reservations.
Did he get called to work? Did you?
Honestly, Dani, I realized it was a bad idea.
I'm not ready to date,
and it wouldn't be fair to Carlton or to me
to pretend otherwise.
Nicole, you can't not put yourself
out there. You have to try.
I know you mean well,
so I am gonna control my reaction,
but I am not you,
and this kind of pressure doesn't help.
I only want you to be happy.
Is that it? Really?
What do you mean?
I'm not sure if you really want me
to be happy or if you're trying to validate
your own decision to rush into a new marriage.
-What? -Either way,
knock it off.
I was just trying to help.
Well, you didn't. You made things worse.
Hello, you two.
I think I missed the first ten minutes of this movie.
What did Chelsea do?
You can tell Kat.
Long story short, I'm basically estranged from my mother.
She's not... rational.
Chelsea says she can relate
because of some of the out-there things her mom has done,
but it's not the same thing at all.
What's different?
I'm a doctor, right? I believe in science.
My mother, if forced to identify,
would label herself as some sort of spiritualist,
which is fine.
I'm not here to police how people believe.
But she brings it directly to my front door
every chance she gets,
encouraging people to use the herbs and poultices
she recommends because her daughter is a doctor.
Then she puts my name and specialty out there
as if I've advised her. It's infuriating.
I just thought it was sad they weren't speaking
because they have different viewpoints.
Chels, what did you do?
I contacted Madison's mom and introduced myself.
It's not like she got upset or anything,
and she's really nice.
She wants to do my birth chart.
You just don't get it.
She's not nice, Chelsea.
She's trying to recruit you.
For what?
To team up and convince me of how irrational I am.
She wants me to accept her,
but she has no respect for me or my work.
I would never say anything against Madison, okay?
My woman is brilliant.
And that's what I'm gonna tell her mom.
And when you do, it'll make all the difference
and you'll be the one to save the day.
Is that it?
That's not what this is about.
I just-- I can't
with you right now. You just don't get it.
I'll see you later.
She's so overreacting.
I mean, I get it's a delicate subject, but...
Well, you feel me, don't you?
Girl, you're bombing worse than I did with Tomas,
and that's saying something.
All right, well, you see this one right here?
Okay, it's steps away from the water
and has an infinity pool and plenty of bedrooms
in case we decide to have guests.
Mm. Is being that close to the water
a good thing or a bad thing?
Oh, it's a very good thing.
You know, these all make for great selling points.
And you can't beat the location. I mean, look at that.
Tons of local restaurants within walking distance.
I'm getting excited just thinking about it.
Yeah?
Oh, wow.
Okay.
What are you doing?
Well, I'm not gonna have you getting excited over nothing.
Bill.
Baby, look, it's what you want, right?
Hmm?
-I do like it. -Okay.
-A lot. -All right, good, then
I'm gonna make an offer.
Okay, picture this.
What if I went behind your back to talk to your mom
when you wanted to quit modeling?
I would have been chill about that.
Who do you think you're talking to?
You were so salty when I was pushing you
to simply talk to Aunt Dani.
Imagine if I had taken control
of the situation without your permission.
I would have known that you had my best interest at heart.
I get your POV, cuz, but this is just different.
Madison has completely cut her mom out of her life.
It just seems harsh.
You know what I think?
I think that maybe you're trying
to convince the wrong family member in this situation
because I get it.
Madison has a point.
-But I-- -Just...
think about it.
Yeah, babe, we got that offer in barely under the wire.
So, we just, you know, wait to hear back.
I think it's gonna go quickly, though.
Thank you, Bill,
Mm-hmm.
What's on your mind?
Ah, I was just thinking, you know,
Dani and I used to have a vacation home.
You know, it was up in Rehoboth Beach.
-That's up here, right? -Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah.
I mean, nowhere near as glamorous as St. Barts,
but it was nice and a manageable drive with the girls.
Yeah. We had a lot of great memories of that place.
Some of the best times we had together as a family.
Yeah, Naomi used to talk about that.
It's too bad you had to get rid of it in the divorce.
Well, I've upgraded wives.
And with that, upgraded vacation homes.
[cell phone chimes]
Oh.
[laughs]
Your offer has been accepted.
-Ooh. -Congratulations on your first
investment property, baby.
Don't you mean "our" property?
Nope. You came up with this,
so I'm gonna put the deed in your name.
Bill, it is absolutely insane
the way that you spoil me.
Nah, come on, baby. It's just my way of having a good time.
Huh. Would you like me to show you
my idea of a good time?
Mmm, I would, but as much as it pains me,
I'm gonna have to
postpone that exciting activity until this evening.
Yeah, I got the conference call this morning, baby.
Okay?
I'll see you later.
Yes! Go, Hayley, go, Hayley, go.
You seem troubled. Do you need to discuss work?
No, it's personal.
Okay, have a seat.
Is it too soon to yell at Chelsea?
I beg your pardon?
I know, I know Chelsea has been through a lot,
and I try to respect that,
give her her space, given that she suffered PTSD.
And don't get me wrong, I am really, really grateful
to have her back in my life, and the last thing in the world
I'd want to do is traumatize her any further.
But, oh, my God, she can be...
exasperating.
Why don't you go back a little, tell me what happened?
Okay.
I've been estranged from my mother
for reasons that are not good enough for Chelsea.
So she took it upon herself to try and get us to reconcile.
How?
By reaching out to her.
Nicole, she's never even met the woman,
has no idea all the things that have passed between us.
Oh, goodness.
But yet she thinks she has the right to interfere.
But I mean, yes, Chelsea did apologize when I got upset,
but frankly, I don't think she gets
how over the line that was.
I think it is wonderful
that you are being so sensitive to Chelsea's emotional state,
but you can't stifle your own needs and feelings to do it.
The two of you have to learn how to communicate honestly
if your relationship is going to weather the test of time.
Thank you, that's sound advice.
It's crazy that I'm a neurologist
and yet I seem to get so brain freeze dealing with Chelsea.
Oh, we all lose our precious skills
from time to time when emotions are involved.
Okay, well, I won't keep you any longer.
I better go and start my shift.
[knocking]
Did you forget something?
In fact, I did.
I forgot my manners.
And I'm here to apologize.
Apology?
I assume you are talking about the other day
when you argued with Carlton.
You were right.
I was out of line.
As difficult as it is for me to accept,
I have no standing in how you spend your time...
...or with whom.
Thank you.
I appreciate the nod to reality.
I know this time of year, you're usually up to your ears
with WinterFest planning and I assume
you'll be asking Carlton to accompany you.
But I want you to know you don't have to be
concerned about my reaction.
I will be
gracious in defeat, as they say.
What happened to you?
Blowing up was a gut reaction.
It forced me to acknowledge that I hadn't taken ownership
for my problems the way I thought I had.
And you offering me forgiveness
had an impact on me.
I could see you were more at peace
than you've been in a long time,
And I will do my... best
to follow your lead.
Uh, that's all I came to say.
Oh, and, uh,
please tell Dani that my practice will donate
the same facial rejuvenation package for the charity auction
that we've always done. Hmm?
Thank you, I appreciate it.
Fine, I'll think about it.
Anyway, I'm starving. What's in this bag--
-anything good? -Oh...
Vitamins, Katherine?
They were supposed to be for Tomas,
but clearly, he doesn't want them.
Wow, can't imagine why.
Would you like to explain to me why you're giving the man
a gift that's sure to turn him off?
They were supposed to help with the healing process,
but now he's annoyed at me
because he thinks I'm pestering him.
You went all this time without sex.
Now you can't even go one week without it?
-Well, I have been awakened. -Mm-hmm.
That's true.
But it's not just about that.
I don't know, I think I still worry sometimes.
It sounds to me like you're trying to use sex
to keep him, and you shouldn't.
I mean, look at you, girl. Hello?
You are every man's dream in and out of the bedroom.
You say that, but I think I'm putting
too much pressure on him and it's making things worse.
But I don't know how to get out of my own way.
Chill out, that's how.
Give the man some time to recover,
and before long, you'll be back
to hanging off your chandeliers
and wearing your little freaky detective costume,
or whatever y'all are into.
I don't have a freaky detective costume.
Well, now you know what to get him for Christmas.
Period.
Tomas, where are you off to?
Headed into a breakfast meeting with a client.
A real one this time, not your mom in disguise.
You sure about that?
I'd better be.
Well, I'm glad to see you up and around.
Heard you had a little accident.
Does the whole city know?
So much for privacy.
Well, frankly, I'm impressed
Kat turned out to be such a quick learner.
How are you?
I'm great.
Yeah. Work's been good,
and my mom finally stopped organizing
surprise dates with you, so win-win.
I told you she'd back off
if you showed an interest in somebody new.
Somebody new?
Yeah, um, Kat told me that she saw you
at Uptown with Izaiah.
Of course, she did. "So much for privacy" is right.
Mrs. Hamilton.
-Oh, uh-- -I'm sorry, I didn't mean
to startle you. I'm Joey Armstrong.
I've met your husband on a number of occasions.
Yes, Bill has mentioned you.
He said you helped us track down Chelsea when she was missing,
-and we are both very grateful. -Well, I'm
just glad I could help.
I trust she's recovering from the ordeal?
I saw her recently and she does seem
to be doing well, all things considered.
I'll tell Bill you asked about her.
I understand we have another acquaintance in common.
We do?
My employee, Randy Parker.
Oh, now I have startled you.
No, I'm not sure who you mean.
Oh, you know, I... I did meet someone
who works for you recently, but I don't think
that's the name he gave me.
I saw you on security cam footage outside my casino
on a night when only Randy was there.
So I asked him about it.
He let me in on your secret.
Ooh, God's stars are aligning, bumping into you.
Hi, Dana. You need something?
Just stopped by to see how your breakfast
with Eva went this morning.
It went really good.
I made it a point of letting her know
how impressed I was with her.
I assume she already knew that, but...
apparently, you were right.
She really appreciated hearing the words.
Well, our girl's a sensitive one.
Probably got it from her daddy.
-Mm-hmm. -I'm sure
it meant the world to her.
Speaking of which, we formally agreed
that she'd start calling me Dad.
Oh.
Thank you. Thank you, Ted.
I mean, you've just given her something
she's been missing her entire life.
Thank you.
Did I get that wrong?
I thought she said you were with Izaiah.
Well, yeah, we were talking.
I had only just met him.
I mean, he's interesting and friendly,
but we're not dating.
Probably for the best.
It would be a complicated situation.
Because Kat doesn't approve?
Kat needs to mind her business and worry about her own life.
I wasn't talking about Kat.
I think the bigger issue is the guy's family.
What do you mean?
His brother is the cop who tried to put your mom in jail.
Tomas, what are you talking about?
I thought you knew.
Izaiah Hawthorne is Jacob's brother.
Both sons of the chief of police.
That never came up.
My life is an open book.
I don't understand what you're trying to pull here,
talking about some secret.
No need to panic.
More than anyone, I know that we all have
something we don't want on public display.
I haven't said a word to your husband
and I don't intend to.
Well, maybe you should because my husband
also happens to be my lawyer,
and if one of your employees is spreading sick rumors about me,
I fully intend to sue him and you for defamation.
I think we've gotten off on the wrong foot.
I have nothing but respect for your husband.
I would never want to be the person to tell him
that his wife of less than a year is stepping out on him.
Wait.
You think I'm having an affair?
Mr. Armstrong, have you seen my husband?
That beautiful specimen of a man?
What possible interest would I have
in getting with anyone else? It's ridiculous.
The only employee of yours that I know
is a nice man named Sammy.
Well, at least, I thought he was nice, anyway.
He gave me a ride to the hospital when
I was having a miscarriage.
Thanks for dredging that up.
Later, I went to thank him
for being so kind.
I-I can't imagine for the life of me
why he'd spread such horrible lies like this.
But if he is,
shame on you for believing it.

I know what I'm doing.
Let me handle this my way.
Sorry I'm late.
If you don't fess up, and soon,
pretty sure you'll regret it.
Oh, my God.
This is incredible.
Look at you.
Today's your last day.
Taking away my dream?
I hate you.
SMITTY: Samantha, wait.
-I called him Dad. -Well, I hope you enjoy
the one daughter you have left, because you can't
have both of us.
And I had him killed so I could
have his wife all to myself.
