Linda was a very
attractive girl.

She was so all-American.

She was there to photograph
the Bunny of the Year contest.

I couldn't believe it.

Who would do
something like that
to this wonderful woman?

[woman] Then,
over the next month,

four more women

were brutally murdered
in Tampa.

Police called
the summer of 1983
the "Summer of Hell."

If you're one of the Bunnies
working at the club,

it must have been terrifying.

It could have been me...

or another Bunny.

I was frightened.

Was I safe?

Should I watch my back?

It's one of the most
bizarre stories

in the history of Tampa Bay,
no doubt.

[opening theme music playing]

[Jenna Bourne] It was Monday,
July 11th, 1983,

early in the morning,
around 07:00 a.m.,

and a man was on his daily
morning walk

when he spotted
something unusual.

At a dead end
of Old Memorial Highway,

near a creek,

he found a woman's body.

She was face down,

had a towel over her head

and was nude
from the waist down.

He ran to a neighbor's home

to use their phone to call

the Hillsborough County
Sheriff's Office.

They looked around
and didn't find a purse,

a wallet or any kind
of identification,

so detectives were not able
to identify

who this woman was
at the crime scene.

She had been shot four times
in the head

with a small caliber weapon.

And they were able to find
evidence of sexual assault.

[Jenna] The same day
in Clearwater,

about half an hour away from
where this body was found,

a group of kids
finds this knit purse,

and turn that person
to police.

[Dan] The cash was gone,
but the credit cards
were still in it.

The police saw that
it belonged to a woman

named Linda Lanson,
who lived in Tampa.

[Jenna] Police are trying
to track down the owner
of this purse.

They reached out to Linda's
apartment complex,

and they find that she
hasn't been seen for days.

But then detectives get
a really big clue

when they discover where
she was last seen in public.

And that is at
the Suncoast Playboy Club
in Saint Petersburg.

[Holly Madison] Playboy clubs
were huge across the country.

When the first Playboy Club
opened in 1960,

people were going out

for these long, like,
three-martini lunches,

and they would want this
really upscale night.

But by the 80s,
things had really changed.

People were a lot more casual
in their style of going out.

Playboy was still this
giant worldwide brand

that everybody knew,
super popular.

But business wise,
they were having
a lot of trouble.

So the Suncoast Playboy Club
was struggling a little bit,

and in order to get more
publicity and attention,

they would have
publicity stunts

like the
Bunny of the Year pageant.

[Kathleen Komarck] In 1983,
I met Linda.

She was there to photograph

the Bunny of the Year contest.

And I was nominated.

I remember her
being very pretty,

and very personable.

Linda was a very
attractive girl,

but she didn't try
to be flashy.

She was very shy.

She was sweet and nice.

[Jenna] Linda moved to Tampa
from New York City,

got married, had a daughter

and wound up getting divorced.

Now she's a 41-year-old
single mom,

renting an apartment in Tampa,

and she is trying to build

a new life for herself
as a photographer,

while her
seven-year-old daughter

is spending the summer
with her dad in Orlando.

She was starting
to get some regular gigs

with a Tampa radio
morning show called Zoo.

Good morning to you
from the Zoo. Who's this?

Radio was red hot,

and I was the program director

and morning DJ
on Q105 radio station.

We would go out
and do live shows

from different places
around Tampa Bay.

And I remember
our promotion director

mentioned to me
that we were going to have

a new publicity photographer,

a girl named Linda Lanson.

And she would take pictures
of what was going on there

and all the personalities
mingling with the fans.

She'd be sneaking around
taking pictures.

You never knew
when she was gonna pop up.

I remember I was asking her

about why she
was so particular

about taking
so many damn pictures.

And she says, "I wanted
just the right pictures,

because I got to make money.

This is my job.

I'm a single mom, and
I don't depend on anybody.

I do it myself."

She kind of...
didn't quite tear up,

but she really
loved her child.

She was looking
to grow in this new career.

And to be hired
to take the photos

at the
Bunny of the Year contest

at the Suncoast Playboy Club,

that would have been
an incredible opportunity.

[Holly]
The Suncoast Playboy Club
opened in the spring of 1981.

It was right on the beach.

It's a town that caters
to a lot of tourists.

[Scott] I was single
and I loved to mingle,

and Tampa was burning up.

Florida was such
a huge destination in the 80s.

This is, like, right when
Miami Vice was coming out.

It was so glamorized.

It had a very distinct look,

a very distinct style.

And everybody was excited
to go there.

I began working
at the Suncoast Playboy Club

when I decided to audition.

And I'll never forget the day
'cause I was very excited.

I was so broke at the time.

I had to borrow
a bathing suit.

I had to borrow
a friend's high heel shoes.

There were about
1,500 beautiful women

that came for the audition.

And...

they hired only,
I believe, 25.

And I was one
of the original Bunnies.

[Collene Knowlson] I was 23.

I was one
of the older Bunnies.

Almost all the other girls

were 18, 19, 20 years old.

[Marilyn Menendez-Arnett]
We did a lot of trips

where we would go out,

and maybe do a golf tournament

or a boxing ring
and hold the cards.

But it was forbidden

to fraternize
with any of the guests.

So when we were out in public,

we always hung out
with other Bunnies.

[Holly] Being a Bunny
is kind of like being
in a sorority

because it can be
really supportive,

but it can get
really competitive, too.

When the Bunny of the Year
contest came around,

you're competing against
some of your closest friends,

so that can definitely
bring some tension.

[Marilyn] I think there was
a little bit of jealousy.

It was a very
prestige position.

Being named
Bunny of the Year is like

being chosen
to be a Playboy Bunny,

but on steroids.

The Bunny of the Year contest
was held in each club.

And there was quite
a significant package
when you won.

There were prizes involved.

I remember one of them
was a diamond ring,

and there was cash prize.

What was so special
about wanting to be
Bunny of the Year,

I think, for me
personally, was

I knew I would get a chance

to visit the mansion
in Los Angeles.

And I would get
to meet Hugh Hefner.

[Holly] Hugh Hefner
must have been
a very mysterious person

to a lot of the Bunnies that
worked around the country.

They would never have met him.

He didn't really travel
too much.

[Marilyn] The Playmates,
are so different

from the Playboy Bunnies.

The Playboy Bunny is more
of a high-class waitress.

A Playmate is someone
who's in the magazine,

and is usually
at the Playboy Mansion.

So it was a chance

to mingle
with the Playmates...

for ten days.

The Bunny of the Year
was very important
for the club

because it generated business.

It got a lot
of guests involved

in picking the winner.

It's not only
an important night
for the club,

but it's an important night

for an up-and-coming
photographer, Linda Lanson.

This could potentially
be a huge opportunity.

On the night of the
Bunny of the Year contest,

the nominees were Bunny Kim,

Bunny Chanda and myself.

I remember our Bunny Mother
introducing me

to this lovely woman, Linda,
the photographer,

and if we want,
we would be able

to have copies
of the photographs,

so I was, like, very excited
about that.

[Holly] Bunny Kim, Bunny Kathy
and Bunny Chanda,

these women all look like

the typical 1980s
Playboy Bunny.

They've got
the big curly hair.

They're all very thin.

They have that...

almost like purplish,
bluish eye shadow

that was really
in style back then,

but they all look gorgeous.

[Marilyn] The Bunnies
were able to vote,

the guests were able to vote.

I would give everyone a slip

that they could cast
their votes,

and I would definitely always
put in a plug for Chanda.

Bunny Chanda's real name
was Carolyn Merricks.

She was a very good Bunny.

Everybody loved her.

She was genuine.
She was elegant.

She was educated, smart.

The customers would come in
and ask to sit in her station.

[Marilyn] I was closest
to Bunny Chanda.

We weren't
the all-American girl,

blonde, tall.

Bunny Chanda was the only
African American

that worked at our club.

And being
of a Latin background,

I just felt that
I didn't fit in.

So... I wanted Chanda to win.

[Holly] Despite Playboy
being a platform
for male fantasy,

it was progressive on issues
like sex and race.

Hef was very inclusive
for the time,

having African American models

on the cover of layboy
and in layboy .

If you think
of that first cover

with the first solo
African American model,

it's so iconic.

It's one of the most
memorable layboy covers
even to this day.

So I can only imagine
how exhilarating

the night of the
Bunny of the Year pageant
was for Chanda.

[Kathleen] It was
very exciting.

I was literally shaking.

They'd call us
up individually.

"Why do you want to be
Bunny of the Year?"

Gosh, I was so nervous.

I wasn't used to standing up
and speaking

in front of a crowd of people.

I remember Linda
was very capable,
moving around quite a bit,

to get the best shots
from every angle.

And then they were gonna
announce the winner.

And we're all just
anxiously awaiting.

They announced Chanda
had won Bunny of the Year.

Everybody wants to win.

But I definitely
was happy for her.

This is such an exciting, fun,

joyous event.

And these women
have no idea that...

two of them...

will be murdered.

[Dan] The sheriff's deputies

see the body of a woman
lying in the high grass

on Memorial Highway.

And that started
an investigation

to figure out who she was
and what had happened to her.

So the police
produced a sketch

that they issued
to the local media,

and there was a call out of,

"If you think you know
who this person is,

call us."

And Linda Lanson's
ex-husband...

called the sheriff's office

and said that
it looked like her.

Shortly after,
Tampa police found her car

abandoned on
a residential street in Tampa,

and the windows were down
and the keys were in it.

[Jenna] Now the investigators
have Linda's car
and her purse,

so they bring Linda's
ex-husband in

to see the Jane Doe...

and he confirms that...

that is the woman
he used to be married to.

Of course, they're gonna think
of Linda's ex-husband
as a suspect,

but they find out
he's got an alibi.

So detectives rule out
Linda's ex-husband.

And when detectives ask
her friends and family,

none of them can think
of a single person

who would want to hurt her.

[Dan] Tampa police
were able to lift

a fingerprint
from her car window,

but without anybody
to compare it to,

it didn't produce any leads.

Detectives tried
to retrace Linda's steps,

and they determined that
the night before she vanished,

she was hired to photograph

the Bunny of the Year contest

at the Playboy Club
in Saint Petersburg.

I came into work

and I approached a coworker,
and I said

"So, when do you think
we're getting the photographs?

I'm so excited to see them."

She said,
"Well, unfortunately,

it's gonna take quite
a while." And I said, "Why?"

And she said they found
the photographer,
Linda, murdered

the night after she left
the club.

And the Police Department
are keeping the photographs
as evidence."

I was devastated.

I couldn't believe it.

Who would do something
like that to this
wonderful woman?

[Holly] When the Bunnies
at the club learned

that Linda had been murdered,

that must have just been
absolutely terrifying.

Of course, detectives
went to the Playboy Club

to talk to everyone
about anything

they might have noticed

since she was found
right after' photographing
that event.

[Marilyn] I told
the detectives,

Linda left about 1:00 a.m.
or 2:00 a.m. by herself,

and I did not see her flirting
with anyone or drinking.

I told them that
when I would leave
the Playboy Club

after working a shift,

it was usually about
2:30 a.m., 3:00 a.m.

I did not always feel safe.

[Collene] The club could have
done better by having

security walk us out

because there were times
when there were people

that were lurking out
in the parking lot.

When it comes to working
at a restaurant environment

where there's a bunch of,
you know, scantily-clad women,

it can be so easy
for creeps and criminals

to hide in plain sight.

[Marilyn] When the detectives
came to ask questions,

it was basically,

"Talk to this one.
Talk to that one,"

and "Okay, move on
to the next."

I really don't feel that

the detectives really
took it seriously

when they interviewed us.

And the investigators
were not able

to speak with Bunny Chanda

'cause she had already left
for her trip

to the Playboy Mansion.

It was scary.

[Jenna] Detectives also
searched Linda's apartment,

looking for clues,
to see if there's any items

that will indicate
what led to her murder.

[Dan] Detectives find
a dark room

in her apartment
she had set up,

so that she could develop
the photographs that she took.

When they're looking
in Linda's dark room,

they see that she has taken
a lot of photographs

of Scott Shannon.

[Jenna] Linda's friends
tell detectives that...

she had mentioned

having a crush
on Scott Shannon.

It was a person in her life

that the detectives felt
like they needed to question.

[Scott] When the detective
called me and told me

that Linda had been murdered,

I... [stammers]

I... I was stunned.

They started
asking me questions,

whether or not I knew Linda.

And I said,
"Why are you asking me?"

He told me that
"she had an affection for you.

Did you have a relationship
with her?"

I'm trying to digest the fact
that this girl,

who I knew
had been brutally murdered,

and then they're talking to me

like I might be a suspect.

I said we worked together,

and I thought
she was wonderful,

but no, I did not date her,

or have any relationship
with her.

I had no inkling

that she had a crush
on me at all.

The last time I saw Linda

was when we were doing our

farewell orning Zoo show

before I left for New York.

She gave me a big hug
and said, 'We're gonna
miss you."

When I told them that
I was living in New York
when it happened,

and I could prove that,

they seemed to understand.

Well, after I hung up
with a detective from Tampa,

I started thinking,

"Who in the hell...

would kill that girl?"

After several weeks,
the leads just sort of
dried up.

Detectives are no closer

to finding the killer
of Linda Lanson.

And then a month
after Linda Lanson was killed,

Barbara Grams was murdered.

[Dan] She was 19,

and she was attacked
and killed

while she was walking home
from her job

at the Tampa Bay Center mall,

and she was found
the next morning, uh,

behind a dentist's office.

The crime scene was similar
to the Linda Lanson case.

Barbara Grams was also found

with no pants on her body,

and she was barefoot.

And it was evident
from the scene

that she had been disrobed.

[Jenna] Similar
to Linda Lanson,

a rape test found
that she had also been raped.

They didn't know if these
murders were connected.

[Jenna] And then
over the next month,

four more women
were brutally murdered
in Tampa.

It was a very scary time.

Was I safe?

Should I watch my back?

Was there
a serial killer out there?

[Jenna] Woman
after woman after woman

kept turning up dead
in public.

They were all
brutally murdered.

Some of them were found
partially undressed,

and some of them were raped.

Police didn't know
if these murders
were connected,

if these were all
separate violent crimes,

or if Tampa had
a serial killer
on their hands.

People were scared.

Police called the summer
of 1983 the "Summer of Hell."

To know that young women

are being targeted
and murdered

at the rate that they were,

I can only imagine
if you're one of the Bunnies
working at the club,

and you're hearing
about all this,

it must have been terrifying.

We never were alone.

We would have a buddy system.

Downtown was not a place to be

by yourself as a woman
in the middle of the night.

Then in October, 1983,
three months
after Linda's death,

an arrest is made
in the murder of 19-year-old
Barbara Grams.

When the investigators were
examining Barbara Grams' body,

they take note

of a suspicious mark
that is on her left cheek.

And the medical examiner
immediately identifies
the mark as a bite mark.

At that time,
bite mark evidence

was becoming a popular thing
in criminal investigations,

but it wasn't something
that the detectives

found in the other cases
that summer.

So detectives started
talking to different people
in the neighborhood,

and asking them
to give samples of their teeth

to compare it
to the bite mark.

They thought
if they could find teeth,

that matched that bite mark,

they might be able
to solve the murder.

And they went around
taking bite imprints.

And they enlisted the help

of this famous odontologist
Dr. Richard Souviron,

who had been instrumental

in the conviction
of Ted Bundy,

to try to help them
match the bite mark.

[Dan] One of the men
who agreed to give a sample

was Robert DuBoise,
an 18-year-old kid
who lived in Tampa.

At the time, he was working
at an auto upholstery shop
in Tampa.

His family had lived
in the neighborhood

where Barbara Grams was found.

And as police
were investigating that crime,

one of the witnesses
pointed them at DuBoise

and said that he was somebody
they might want to look at

because, supposedly,
he was a troublemaker
in the neighborhood.

And so that
was enough evidence

to say that
they had a suspect.

Robert DuBoise is adamant
from the beginning
that he is innocent.

But detectives were focusing
on this bite mark.

It was a few more years
before DNA evidence

started being used
in criminal cases.

Bite mark evidence
in the 1980s

was considered to be
as good as a fingerprint.

And when a forensic dentist
compared that model

to the mark on Barbara Grams,

he opined that
it was DuBoise teeth

that created this bite mark.

And that became
enough for the police
to arrest Robert DuBoise

and charge him
with Barbara Grams' murder.

He ultimately
was found guilty by a jury,

and he ended up
being sentenced to death.

Detectives aren't able
to connect him to Linda Lansen

or any of the other women
who were killed.

But after
Robert DuBoise is arrested,

the murders,
it seemed to stop.

[Dan] So, by that time,
there isn't a lot else

that's happening
with Linda Lansen's case.

[Scott] I spent some time
thinking about Linda.

She was so all-American.

Just a sweet, nice kid.

And I thought
how terrible it was

that whoever did it
tore her away.

So eerie,
in so many different ways,

it kind of shook me up.

The Summer of Hell
sounds absolutely terrifying.

And then, in the fall of 1983,
the Suncoast
Playboy Club closes.

They just weren't
making the money

that they needed to stay open.

[Holly] The trouble
with the Playboy clubs
in the early '80s

is they weren't really
capturing that
aspirational mystique

that the Playboy clubs
used to have.

[Kathleen] We found out
quite abruptly,
and I was really surprised.

I was one
of the original Bunnies.

I worked from day one
I was hired

till the day it closed.

We were crying
on the last night
of the club closing.

And I thought, "Oh,
this is the best job
I ever had.

This is gonna last forever."
[chuckles] You know.

I wish it would have.

It was the end of an era.

[Kathleen] After
the Playboy Club closed,

several of us
would get together
and go out.

[Collene] I stayed friends
with quite a few of the girls,

and we had a little
mini sort of reunion.

About a year
after the club closed,

the owners of the club
took us out on a boat.

Bunny Kathy was there with us.

Chanda was there with us.

Chanda didn't mention
anything about
her dating life to me,

but she seemed happy.

She was working
as a cocktail waitress
at Tierra Verde.

It was a jazz club,
but her aspiration

was to become
a TV news personality.

We were all happy to catch up
about what we were doing

and looking forward to.

[Kathleen] It was lively.
It was fun.
It was great

to see the other girls
and just kind of celebrate.

The Bunnies still maintained
a tight-knit sorority,

forever connected
by their time as Bunnies.

And then the hell
that was the summer of 1983

comes crashing back
with a vengeance.

It's been a year since
the Suncoast Playboy Club's

Bunny of the Year contest

and the murder
of Linda Lansen.

And a woman went
to her sister's apartment,

which was not far
from where the Suncoast
Playboy Club had been,

and saw her sister
on the floor covered in blood.

She had been stabbed to death.

When investigators
are on the scene,

she told them her sister
was Carolyn Merricks.

As far as she knew
Carolyn wasn't dating anybody

or living with anybody
at the time.

But that she
was a cocktail waitress
at a resort in Tierra Verde.

And she used to work
at the Suncoast Playboy Club,

going by the name
Bunny Chanda.

And she won Playboy
Bunny of the Year
at the club the year before.

It was a total shock

to not only us at the club,
but to the entire community.

It made no sense,
and I was devastated.

And still when I think
about it, I become tearful.

[Collene] It was
devastating to hear

that something like that
would happen

to someone like her.

And then when we found out
some of the details

of her being stabbed to death,

you think it's personal.

[Jenna] Another woman
is found murdered,

who was at
the Suncoast Playboy Club's

Bunny of the Year contest
in 1983.

But unlike Linda,
Carolyn's body was found

in a private place
in her own apartment.

There weren't any signs
of forced entry,

leading law enforcement
to believe

it may have been
someone she knew,

and the murder weapon
was different.

But detectives
were looking to find out

whether these cases
were connected
to the Suncoast Playboy Club,

and so they reached out
to the people
who were at the Playboy Club.

[Marilyn] Talking with
the investigators,

it was definitely
an interrogation
is what I felt.

Who did I know? Who was there?

Who did she hang out with?

They really thought
it had to be someone inside

rather than a stranger.

I do remember Sinbad
was a good friend of ours,

that kind of hung out with us.

More as protection maybe.

However, they really
focused in on him.

Could he be someone
that might have done this?

And, of course,
he was cleared.

I also thought it
could be due to winning
the Bunny of the Year

because Chanda was then sent

with all the other
Bunnies of the Year
from different clubs

out to the Playboy Mansion.

[Collene] I got the feeling

that she felt a little
uncomfortable being there

because she didn't discuss
a lot of what happened there.

So there were
a lot more things that went on

that maybe she
wouldn't have wanted
to take part in.

[Marilyn] I don't know
if anything sketchy happened

when Chanda
went to the mansion.

Chanda truly kept her
entire personal life private.

A lot of people
didn't even know
where she lived.

A lot of people
didn't even know
she had a child,

and that could
have been to her demise.

Because I believe
if we would have known more,

we might
have been able to help.

Detectives were looking
to interview people

trying to get
to know Carolyn better
to solve her murder.

No one wants
another Summer of Hell.

But the investigation
into Carolyn Merricks' murder
went nowhere.

Her case went cold.

[Marilyn] Total devastation
is what her sister
must have gone through.

It was so tragic.

[Dan] It just
becomes frustrating.

There were several murders
that were still unsolved,
including Linda's.

When I think
about the situation,

I think about her daughter

and what it was like
to grow up

thinking about your mother
and how she was murdered.

And then the complications

of the whole case
that went cold for so long.

Oh, my God, what an injustice.

In Linda's case,
there were rape kit slides

that were, uh, taken
during her autopsy.

There was the bloody towel
that they found
on Linda's body.

There was a fingerprint
on Linda's car window,

but DNA technology
was not available in 1983.

It didn't become
routinely used
until really the'90s,

and it didn't really
get advanced
until even after that.

More than three decades later,

there was a big break into--
Of the Summer of Hell cases.

Good afternoon, everyone.

Today is an important day
for justice.

Justice for the family
of a victim,

and for the man
convicted of the murder

and attempted rape

of 19-year-old
Barbara Grams back in 1983.

[Dan] Even though
he was sentenced to death,

Robert DuBoise
always adamantly denied

that he was at all involved
in Barbara Grams' murder.

For almost 37 years,

he had made efforts
to try to prove
that he was innocent,

including asking the courts
for DNA testing.

And in 2020 DuBoise

was represented
by the Innocence Project.

As they conducted
their investigation

they became aware

that there were samples
from the crime

that were taken
during Barbara Grams' autopsy
that were still stored

in the the Hillsborough County
Medical Examiner's Office.

[Jenna] When investigators
examine Barbara Grams'
rape kit,

they find DNA
matching two men.

Neither of them
are Robert DuBoise.

This is painful and tragic,
but it's the truth.

And when you tell the truth,
justice is done.

Our office
has identified a man

wrongfully convicted of murder

after spending
37 years behind bars.

Robert DuBoise was exonerated
for the murder
of Barbara Grams.

Now, they had this DNA,

and they needed
to try to determine,

well, whose DNA is this?

Also, the investigators

were able to identify DNA

on rape kit slides

that were taken
during the Linda Lansen case.

They were able
to determine that the DNA

was a match
with the DNA that they had

in the Barbara Grams case.

So, they put the samples

into the
National DNA Database.

And when they did that,

they got a match.

Thirty seven years
after Linda Lansen

took the final
photographs of her life

at the Suncoast Playboy Club,

Tampa investigators
have matched the DNA
in her rape kit to two men.

Amos Robinson and Abron Scott.

Both, Amos Robinson
and Abron Scott,

were serving life sentences
in Florida's prison system

for a murder of a young man

they decided
to target for a robbery

three months
after Linda Lansen was killed.

In addition to the DNA
from Linda's body,

investigators we were
able to identify

the DNA of Abron Scott
on the bloody towel

that they found
on Linda's body.

[Jenna] So detectives
go to question Amos Robinson.

Amos Robinson
completely denied

that he was
the person responsible

for the murders
of Linda Lansen
and Barbara Grams.

[Jenna] But in March 2024,

the other suspect
in Linda's case, Abron Scott,

told detectives that he
and Robinson are guilty

of Linda Lansen
and Barbara Grams'
rape and murders,

according to
the Tampa Bay Times,

and they report
that he is cooperating

with the prosecution

and is going to testify
against his former friend
in this case.

[Dan] The court case
against Amos Robinson

and Abron Scott
is still ongoing.

And so there's
certain details that
haven't become public yet.

From what we now understand
with all this new information
that's come to light,

Linda Lansen,
after an incredible night

photographing this
Bunny of the Year contest

at the Suncoast Playboy Club

was driving home

and has a chance encounter
with two criminals

who rape her
and shoot her in the head.

One of the really disturbing
and tragic things
about the case

is it seems like
it was a random crime.

Linda wasn't doing anything
to put herself at risk.

It was really just
kind of happenstance

that this ended up
happening to her,

and it's all the more tragic
because of that.

In addition to the murder
that Amos Robinson
and Abron Scott

were convicted of in 1983,

Abron Scott has pleaded guilty

to the murder of Linda Lansen
and Barbara Grams.

Amos Robinson awaits trial.

They are considered
persons of interest

in one other unsolved case
that occurred in Tampa
in September 1983

during the Summer of Hell.

It's clear that
Robinson and Scott

couldn't have
murdered Carolyn Merricks

because by the time
she was killed in 1984,

those two men
were already locked up.

[Holly] Carolyn Merricks'
murder is still unsolved.

You want
the victims' families,

of course,
to get that closure,

but then you remember
that it never brings
that person back.

It's such an outrage
that Chanda's case

remains cold to this day.

[Kathleen] Forty four years
later, when I think
about Bunny Chanda,

the pain is still there.

And we have a saying.

"Once a Bunny,
always a Bunny."
Because it was so special.

And Chanda is there with us
in spirit, though,
I do know that.

There are so many
twists and turns
and it's a terrible tragedy.

You have these
two amazing women

with their lives
ahead of them,

with so much potential.

had to grow up
without her mother,

her family.

Her mother, her sister,
had to continue on

without their loved one.

[Holly] She was ready
for the next step in her life,

starting a new career.

She was a mom,
she was so loved,

and it's just heartbreaking.

but people felt like
she had secrets.

this huge career, and now

you have homicide detectives

Five people had been murdered.
