In the last few years, the number of
Americans on the road has skyrocketed.

And that means more traffic, more
action, and

also more rage.

With violent road rage up nearly 500%.

Tens of thousands of pedestrians injured
on U .S. roads every year.

It's no wonder that wherever drivers and
people on foot cross paths, things can

become contentious over the right of
way.

And these showdowns can get especially
ugly

when weapons are involved.

In New York City.

A pedestrian dragging a trash can
approaches the driver of the silver

who's brandishing a machete, with the
driver's wife caught in the middle.

According to witnesses, the pedestrian
was crossing the street while apparently

distracted by his phone, which allegedly
angered the driver.

And after an exchange of words, in a
brief, bloody fight,

The driver grabbed the machete from his
vehicle, escalating things

considerably.

The driver takes a wild swing, causing
the machete blade to

snap off at the handle, leaving him wide
open to retaliation.

The two then appear to abruptly call it
quits.

But only for a moment.

After some sharp words from the wife and
one last shot from the driver, both

parties finally go their separate ways.

And though the extent of injuries to
both men is unclear,

moments after the incident, according to
news reports, the driver is arrested

and charged with assault, criminal
mischief, menacing, and criminal

of a weapon.

According to news reports, the
pedestrian is not charged.

A great reminder of how quickly an
altercation on the road can escalate

when emotions take over.

Police departments around the country

utilize customized SUVs as part of their
fleet, and for good reason.

These strong, rugged vehicles can handle
rough terrains and conditions that

smaller vehicles can't, making them an
especially powerful asset

during pursuit.

Unfortunately, there are times when
bigger, Is it necessarily better?

In Ocala, Florida, an officer joins the
pursuit of an allegedly stolen vehicle.

And the suspect behind the wheel shows
no sign of stopping, despite a fleet of

police SUVs on his tail.

Coming up on moderate traffic.

The suspect cuts around other drivers.

possibly clipping another vehicle,
leaving broken pieces on the asphalt.

Moments later, he peels off the main
road, heading down a side street.

And then takes a gamble by

turning onto an unpaved track and
heading straight for the wood.

Which it turns out is a very effective

way to lose the police.

So they

continue the

chase on foot.

but quickly lose sight of the suspect.

Until another officer circling the
wooded area picks up the trail.

The officer attempts to force the car to
spin out

by bumping its back end, otherwise known
as a pit maneuver.

But a brake check and oncoming traffic.

Make that difficult.

Up ahead,

the suspect tears

onto a driveway.

Going across a yard.

And blazing his own trail.

as the officer keeps pace.

The driver charges through another yard,
and then another

fence.

But this time, a backup vehicle manages
to slow him down,

allowing the lead vehicle to re -engage.

The suspects now drive even more
recklessly, giving the officer one more

to bring it to an end.

Dale Shrewsbury is arrested and brought
to a local hospital to treat minor

wounds.

He is found guilty of seven charges,
including grand theft of a motor

aggravated fleeing or attempting to
elude police, and leaving the scene of a

crash property damage only.

According to the county clerk's office,
he's sentenced to two years in state

prison.

Fortunately, Despite a winding chase
full of risky evasive maneuvers, police

eventually had enough skill and power on
their side to

bring him down.

Although human error is cited as

the biggest road -related danger,
perhaps the most unpredictable,

is Mother Nature in all her many forms.

There's a swarm of bees under my car.

A woman who just got off work discovers
a mass of bees in her car's wheel well.

You know what probably happened?

There's probably like a queen and she
went in my car and they followed that

bitch. Lacking any better ideas, she
decides to try to drive it.

Hoping the bees will fly away.

Oh, there goes one.

But instead, they simply cling to the
side view mirror.

I'm trying to pay attention to driving,
but at the same time, I'm looking at

these bees that are terrorizing me.

And they are apparently in it for the
long haul.

I'm currently being held hostage in my
car by bees.

This is great. You know, I was going to
stop for gas and then I stopped the car

and then this happened.

Look at my mirror.

There is a ton of these.

A ton.

No way.

No way.

According to the exasperated driver, she
finally solved the issue when she

drives to her husband, who just so
happens.

to work at a car wash.

I feel so bad for the bees because
they're literally like holding on for

life while I'm driving.

Here's hoping the bees took off before
the water started flowing.

Look at my mirror!

And found a much safer place to call
home.

According to the Storefront Safety
Council, vehicles crash into storefronts

approximately 100 times a day.

But considering there are over 1 million
storefronts in the U .S., chances are

most will be spared this kind of
devastation.

Most, but not all, in Arizona.

A salon's interior camera captures the
customer as he waits in the lobby.

As the store's exterior camera records
the parking lot.

With one car appearing to drive a

little too fast.

In Chandler, Arizona.

A man sits in the lobby of a salon when
outside in the parking lot.

One car seems erratic as it leaves its
parking spot, appearing to hit

another car and accelerate straight
toward the salon.

Missing the man by mere feet.

Amazingly, he seems unharmed, but
definitely shaken up.

And he isn't the only one.

The salon's studios are filled with
customers.

Are you? I don't know. Are you?

Oh, my God. Are you? I think so.

Okay. It's okay.

It's okay.

Other employees and patrons immediately
peer out to see what happened.

I can't believe this just happened.
Someone just ran through the... Is the

person okay?

According to police, the driver is a 90
-year -old woman.

who claims to have lost control of the
car.

There's something stuck in that car.

And miraculously, she's the only person
who sustains an injury, and it's

relatively minor.

The salon, however, sustains substantial
damage and has to shut down for

repairs.

A frightening example of how destructive
a vehicle can be.

Especially when a driver suddenly loses
control.

Never before have I seen

touch in parking. Not just one.

Not just two.

Not just three.

But five cars.

Children at play signs placed near the
road may seem like a good idea, but

is no proof of their effectiveness.

And many areas in the U .S. now
discourage their use, especially if

-bought and placed on an actual roadway,
as it could encourage children to

play near traffic.

But while authorities who see these
signs may simply move them, some drivers

could take it a bit further.

In South Carolina, a home security
camera records as a white pickup truck

to a stop just a few feet away from a
slowdown sign placed in the middle of

road.

And the driver makes his feelings known.

In a big, big way.

And he's just getting started.

He appears to use a sharp object to stab
the sign violently.

Then, after one final apparent kick

and a parting guttural shout,

the driver returns to his truck.

And though it's unknown why the driver
had such a big reaction, the lesson is

clear.

No safety sign can fully protect anyone
from a driver as angry as

this.

In California, a terrifying reminder

That danger on the road can come from
any direction, even in some cases where

one would never think to look.

A traffic camera records an intersection

Street Stairs as three young women cross
the street.

Then, just 40 seconds later...

A road nearly 50 feet above, a white
sedan launches through a dead -end

flips upside down, crashes through a
tree, and

slams onto the sidewalk below.

Bystanders immediately rush in to help
the vehicle's occupants.

A Good Samaritan is able to pry a door
open, allowing one passenger to free

themselves from the wreck.

Followed by another.

And then by this woman.

Who appears to apologize to others still
inside the vehicle.

Moments later, the first two out of the
car take off,

running up the stairs from where they
plummeted into the street.

And when the last two occupants finally
get out, even though they're reportedly

injured, they too, along with the woman
who was apologizing, leave the scene

less than a minute before fire engines
arrive.

And the reason for their hasty exit soon
becomes clear.

According to news reports, a man who
claims to own the now -wrecked car

that he was carjacked by the group
moments before it flew over the stairs.

Two of the suspects are eventually
tracked down and arrested.

But according to the San Francisco
District Attorney's Office, later

pending further investigation.

Fortunately for them, And everyone in
the area.

This happened when it did.

And not a minute sooner.
