[man] First show, baby!

[Jennifer Lopez] This is my first world tour ever...

and I wanna sing live, I wanna dance...

as I've never done before.

I've gotta sell a million tickets

to fill arenas all over the world.

- Nobody tells us what to do. - "Nobody tells us what to do."

[Jennifer] Five continents, almost 80 cities.

[Jennifer] And on top of all of that...

If you wanna have teeth when you grow up,

I can't let you chew gum now!

I'm taking my kids with me for the ride.

- Is this yummy? - Gonna getcha!

I see your eyes!

[Jennifer] I'm excited and scared at the same time.

She's not the youngins that are out there

touring right now. They're in their 20s and...

She's a mom of two kids,

she's afraid how's she gonna balance all that.

Twelve years ago, she was planning on going on tour.

Never happened.

She questioned it a lot, "Can I do this?"

[Jennifer] You know, when you go into uncharted territory,

it's always scary.

[David] There's always a fear of failure.

And now she's undertaken this new venture...

and you have that nagging fear

in the back of your head that says,

"This may not work out. What do I do next?"

[Jennifer] I'm not scared like I'm not gonna do it.

That's when I jump in, I think. When I feel scared, I say...

"Okay, I'm just gonna jump."

[Lupe] She's been wanting to do this for many years...

and, in her mind, it's a dream come true.

Actually, I guess it's a dream of mine, too.

I thought one day I would go on tour,

that I would be the star.

But it's better that she's the star.

I always knew that my daughters...

were all gonna be very unique

and very successful in their own way.

I felt that most about Jennifer,

because she, out of the three of them...

- had my personality. - The lucky one!

[Leslie] When Jennifer decided to do her "Dance Again" tour...

she, you know, wanted to talk about her life

through her music.

The opening still does not have the look that I want.

[David] It was her story,

and she was going to do whatever she could...

to let people know, "This is what I'm about."

I want it to feel like heaven,

I've said this from the beginning.

All these shafts of light coming from heaven!

[David] She needed to go out into the world

and just forget what was happening back here.

I don't want it to feel real.

I want it to feel like we're in a movie.

It should be just a movie from beginning to end.

[David] I don't think she knows

what's gonna happen with "American Idol."

[announcer] She said, deciding whether to stay or go

isn't easy.

I love them. They love me. And it's hard. I don't know.

[David] I don't think she has made up her mind on it.

All she wants to do is go ahead and complete the tour.

[Jennifer] Benny, Shawn,

I need to give you this note right now.

The only thing, that was dangerous,

and I had to start cursing.

I only get mad when somebody's gonna get hurt.

And there's a big hole in the ground,

there's too much smoke...

it's pitch black, and that's where we're supposed to be.

One person falls, the other one tries to grab him...

Because the lip wasn't down when it was supposed to be.

It should have already been up.

It was like a disaster area waiting to happen.

I'm the one on stage. If nobody tells me,

then of course it's gonna be fucked up.

So, what are we gonna do? Are we gonna work it out with...?

The whole crew is totally dependent

on her delivering a show that is gonna be worthwhile.

Their livelihoods are at stake.

And that pressure falls on Jennifer.

All the weight is gonna be on her shoulders.

Sorry for cursing, everybody.

The Bronx come out when I'm afraid I'm gonna get hurt.

I don't want in-between. I want all the way there.

[Lupe] I mean, it would have to be literally an act of God...

- Let's get it! - That was catastrophic

that would stop her from completing this journey.

[Jennifer] Right before the show,

like that hour before...

you get like that adrenaline, and you get like ready to go.

But for me, in the minutes...

in the seconds before the show starts...

I get very, very calm.

[Gilbert] So, I just wanna say something...

This is my attempt to bring in all of our energies together

in the most beautiful way possible.

To have the best experience of our lives tonight.

I wanna start by saying thank you to Jennifer

for being the reason that we're all standing here.

You're honestly the hardest-working woman

I've ever met.

We've all worked our butts off

to perfect our crafts for a moment like this.

I was really scared for a long time.

My God, it's so daunting.

But now I'm like, it's funny how

you mentally prepare for something.

And I feel like really mentally prepared now, and I'm excited.

Can I ask you a question? Is that how you guys do it?

When you fall down, you get right back up?

That's how we do where I'm from. You know where I'm from?

[David] Growing up in the Bronx

is not like growing up in a small town in Kansas.

There's a lot of competition. It's actually a training ground.

[Lupe] New Yorkers, we're unbelievable.

We're just tough, tough people.

We're very strong.

[David] Every person you meet,

they want you to prove something.

For the person who knows how to use that training...

it's very helpful in their success.

You might think that that was Emme you were looking at...

and it's actually Jennifer when she was four years old.

You can see that look in her face.

Even back then she had something...

that bright-eyed look. How proud I am.

[Jennifer] I woke up one morning, and

I was about to go into college...

and I said to my mom, "I had a dream

that I'm supposed to be in show business."

When you grow up in the Bronx, it's a very far-fetched dream.

My dad was like, "Oh, yeah? Well, what was the dream like?"

And what did you see?"

And my mom's like, "You're going to college!"

[David] I wanted her to go to college.

I wanted her to do something...

in law or politics, enhancing the chances of Latinos...

in the United States and around the world.

Well, I guess what she chose

was maybe a little bit better than that.

It's way beyond anything any lawyer could have done.

[Leslie] There were nine females in my family.

My mother had three girls, I had three girls,

my sister had three girls.

We're all girls.

And we learned how to be really tough and strong

at a young age.

And we know how to deal with certain things.

and you actually experience something like this...

I just get so excited and so out of myself that...

you know, it's an awesome feeling.

It's something that very few people

experience in this planet.

[Jennifer] I'm thinking about going to a couple of shows

during Fashion Week... when we get to Paris.

That should be the type of thing

that we get to do when we're on tour.

You know what I mean, just some fun stuff, too.

Otherwise, it just becomes all...

get up, work out, get a massage...

do the show, sleep, get up, work out...

As far as the fans and the people who I trust...

those people have enjoyed it

and have said the most amazing things about it...

that I just feel like I wanna see it.

for 6/7 months at a time.

even though they're only four.

So my mom came along, 'cause she's a teacher...

and she's also their grandma.

[Jennifer] He's kind of hysterical.

He brings us so much joy...

but he has those tantrums every once in a while.

He always wants to get into something

he might hurt himself...

so we're constantly trying to save him from doing that.

[Jennifer] My daughter sits at the table,

she's coloring, it's easy.

Three more shows, tonight and two more in Miami.

[David] I think why she did this tour

was because she needed some time.

[Lynda] Things were at such a great period in her life.

"American Idol" was fantastic. - You remember Randy?

[Lynda] The album came out.

[Lynda] She wanted to plan a tour.

There was so much that was going well...

at work, and in her career.

And that all was coinciding...

with things going not good at home,

and not good for her personally.

[announcer] Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony

announced the end of their seven-year marriage stating,

"It is a painful time for all involved."

[Jennifer] That wasn't my dream.

My dream for us to always be together.

You never wanna break up a family.

I could see, you know, the hurt.

I could see the hurt in her face and the hurt in her soul.

She was really counting on this time to make it right.

She honestly and heartily believed that.

She went up to everybody and she said...

that she went to the store that day...

and they were looking for these, you know, she loves pink things.

And my mom's like, "Here, look, a little pink butterfly."

And she goes, "I know, I want that red heart."

This is so I can remember my daddy.

I'm not going to be with him anymore.

She was like trying to explain...

that she wanted to have something

to remind her of her dad, because, you know,

she doesn't get to see him.

I want to remember him, so I bought this heart.

It hurts me to see them miss him so much.

They miss him so much.

Come on. Thank you for that other kiss.

I know.

[David] It broke my heart to see that she had been hurt.

[Lynda] I know it was pretty devastating to her

to have her marriage end.

To have really what she had always wanted, to come apart.

Not be what she dreamed it would be and wanted it to be.

I know it was pretty devastating.

And it's hard for anybody to deal with.

[Jennifer] When my marriage fell apart,

and having to go to the set every day,

and work is a blessing and a curse at that moment.

I remember being on the set and being in my dressing room...

and not feeling like I could get up in the morning...

and there's just no pain like that.

There's no pain of failure...

like going through a divorce.

That whole bad dream when that fairy tale,

with that first time that that dream

gets blown to pieces...

it's like you feel like you're gonna die.

You feel like you failed. You feel like...

no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't make it work.

You couldn't give your babies a perfect life.

One of those situations where you just have to...

face the inevitable. And that's scary sometimes

because we don't wanna face

sometimes what's right in front of us.

You know, like in here, I'm intact.

[Jennifer] My biggest insecurity I had was the singing,

because people criticized my voice.

And so, for a long time,

I didn't believe in myself in that way.

[Benny] She took to the stage at a moment and at a place

and at a time...

when it was going to be

the greatest challenge potentially that she had had.

You have to go to the soul.

And the soul was living and of knowing that change occurs.

It's a real reflection of artistry in a moment and a life.

And it's Jennifer's.

[Jennifer] We've been in it four months now...

and I felt great when we finished in Miami.

But then, after Miami, I got really sick.

Which I didn't expect.

I was like 10 days on antibiotics,

and had to be in bed.

It's like the beginning of the tour,

except we didn't have rehearsals beforehand.

So everybody's feeling not in the best cardiovascular shape.

Our stamina's not there. This week...

we're gonna have to rehearse a lot

and really get our stamina back up

so we can be our best.

[scatting]

[John] We are in Lisbon, Portugal.

It's absolutely beautiful out here.

It's been the perfect getaway and peace of mind

we all needed before we come back into this chaotic life

we call "entertainment".

thanks in large part to a stunning career reincarnation

that began two years ago

when she became a judge on "American Idol".

Jennifer Lopez is leaving "American Idol?"

Or will she be back to "Dance Again?"

Lopez has said this is a decision she's been dreading.

There's Nigel.

Because we had a big meeting, and he was like, okay,

"If this person comes back, blah-blah..."

He was like, "Why are you even talking

about Jennifer not coming back?"

He said, "Why is that even a possibility?"

She's the best person who's ever done this!"

He's like, "And you have her! You're gonna lose her?"

"You're gonna get somebody

who you don't know if they can do it? If they work?"

"You're gonna go to these superstars,"

you're gonna ask them to give up their career,

"and then you think you're not gonna pay them?"

There's an uneasiness with the decision.

It's not letting me rest.

Yeah, I just feel like it's not over.

We were watching TV this morning, they were like,

"Oh, she turns down 17 million dollars."

When I heard it like that, I was like, "Are we crazy?"

But at the same time,

I don't like going against my first instinct...

which was to move on.

[announcer] Jennifer Lopez shocked the world

with one short phone call.

[Jennifer] Parting with "Idol" hurts because it feels like...

closing a whole chapter in my life.

I remember like it was yesterday the day I got back home...

from my first taping as a judge.

I remember telling Marc

Because when I entered into this and I decided to do it...

you know I sat all you down at the beginning

and I talked a little bit about how important...

it was to me to do this for myself,

for my life, for my career and all that stuff.

But I also knew it would be a journey of growth.

I knew I would grow through it as a performer...

but more importantly as a human being and as a person...

because these things challenge you in a way

that nothing else does.

It challenges you not only physically,

but it challenges you emotionally...

and it challenges you spiritually...

and you have to draw from yourself.

And it shows you how strong you are.

It makes you see that you can do anything.

And that's what I love about things like this.

To have you have my back the whole entire time.

Not only have my back out there on the stage...

but have my back like, you have me you know?

And I hope you know that I have each one of you

as well when I'm out there.

Everybody had their own specific challenges

that they had to face in some moment by themselves,

and it didn't affect what we had to do.

Which makes you all such special people.

And we're here at the end, and we did it...

and we did it so big, and we did it so hard.

And it was so successful. And...

I don't know, I feel like

I'm just the luckiest girl in the world.

Every day I feel that way.
