unidentified creatures

stretching back
hundreds of years.

This program is a
legend brought to life.

It's told through dramatization,
eyewitness accounts, and expert

interviews.

There's a monster
that'll come out the marsh

and grab you up in a heartbeat.

WOMAN: Something is killing
animals around here.

Just because you don't
believe don't mean you're safe.

Did you hear that?

Oh, dear god.

WOMAN: Some people
go into the swamp.

They don't come out.

[growl]

[slam]

NARRATOR: A dangerous
predator is terrorizing

this remote, Southern
Louisiana town.

[moo]

Some locals are beginning to
blame a legendary swamp beast

they call the rougarou.

There have been a series
of grisly animal attacks.

JULES: What the hell?

NARRATOR: The local animal
nuisance company, Cajun Beast,

thought they had their culprit--

[roar]

Kill it!

NARRATOR: --a rogue black
bear, but even after the team

captured the bear, the
attacks didn't stop.

Look at this.

It's all bent.

What do you suppose did that?

TAMMANY: Hey, get over here.

Yeah?

LUC: The trail
camera is smashed.

It's torn clean off the tree.

At least the camera's there.

There's no claw
marks on that tree.

TAMMANY: The card is still here.

LUC: See if you can pull up some
pictures and see what did this.

We set a trail camera up in
tree to keep watch on the area

where Larry's cow was attacked.

Now we come back
this morning, and we

find the thing ripped off the
tree and smashed on the ground.

I mean, you got to run over
it with a truck to do that.

LUC: Right there.

Right there.

Hold on.

JULES: Oh.

What is that?

JULES: What is that?

Tree done fell down?

TAMMANY: Are those eyes?

What's that?
What's that?

What's that?
JULES: Look at that.

- Back it up.
- Right here.

Watch.

TAMMANY: You see how tall
the shadow in the trees?

LUC: Oh.

It knocked it
down on the ground.

LUC: OK, so we're
on the ground, yeah.

Oh, my god.

JULES: No frickin' way, man.

Are those teeth?

Could be a wolf.

No way.

[roar]

JULES: That ain't no bear.

What time was it taken?

The time stamp says it's
after we caught that bear.

We tranqued that bear at 1:13,
and when my trail cam got

knocked down, the timestamp
was 3:39, so there's no way.

This ain't our bear.

I was a little shocked,
to be honest with you,

but I got to play
it cool, and I don't

want them to get any ideas and
start jumping to conclusions.

Screw this [bleep],, man,
not with that [bleep] on that

camera.

No, uh-uh.

It's a lot of things
out in the woods,

but I ain't never seen
anything tall enough

to knock an 8-foot
trail cam off a tree,

and to bust it up like that
and bust up my trap too?

It wasn't no wolf or no panther.

There's a lot more
things out in the woods

that we need to
be worried about.

Here in South
Louisiana, the swamps

are very remote, very hostile.

You have things that come
out in the night that's never

seen in the day.

It leads to a lot of
legends and myths.

The Honey Island Swamp
Monster or the Alligator Man

or the most violent monster that
lives in the deep, dark swamps,

the rougarou.

The name rougarou came the
legend of the loup garou, which

originated from France, where
it was a werewolf legend.

[growl]

And it was brought
over to Louisiana

and became the rougarou.

The rougarou is
extremely strong.

It can snap your neck in
an instant if it wanted to.

I heard a noise
from over there.

I went to investigate.

When I shined the
flashlight on it,

it was like, my god, I've
never seen something like that

before, at least as tall
as me, if not taller,

and it was full of brown
hair, walked like a man

with two legs.

I tried to get a little closer
to get a better look at it,

and it took off in the weeds.

It could have been the rougarou.

Let's get out of here before
that rain starts pouring down

on us.

[thunder]

TAMMANY: The security box
holding that trail cam was

8 feet high in that tree.

It's made to withstand
vandalism, weather,

animals swiping at it.

You name it.

You could run it over
with the 2-ton truck,

and it shouldn't break.

I'm taking the footage out to
my friend at the ecological lab.

She's going to blow it up
and see if we can analyze

and figure out what--

close to what it might be.

And we're going to
do some DNA testing

on the blood and the fur.

LUC: Maybe it was a hog.

You know how big they get.

600 pounds, pull it's knuckle
right out of that thing.

The hog couldn't
have got up 8 feet.

No way.

Try again, Sherlock.

JULES: You know,
rougarou, the thing.

LUC: Hey, don't, Jules.

Last thing we need is
Jules flapping his gums

about some rougarou,
Bigfoot swamp monster.

People can jump to conclusions
well enough on their own.

I don't need us helping them.

One of the things that
got a little more attention

is a place called
Bladenboro, North Carolina.

[camera shutter]

In the '50s, a lot of
killing went on now--

cows and goats and dogs, just
a lot of stuff turning up dead.

It went on for a couple of
weeks in this little town.

A lot of people thought
they saw things.

Some of them explained
it off to be bears.

[growl]

The reality is,
nothing was ever found.

Whatever the so-called
beast of Bladenboro was,

it went away just as
quick as it showed up.

If you were to ask
me, that sounds a lot

like what's going on here.

[growl]

TAMMANY: Hey, y'all.
How's it going?

How are you?

TAMMANY: Hans and
Denise are great.

They do environmental
research all over this area.

They know pretty much
everything there is to know

about local plants and animals.

So any time we come across
something that gets us stumped,

we can usually count on
them for some answers.

DENISE: Wow.

Something had a party.

HANS: Look at that.

Now we can get the pictures
off this card here.

And we'll run some of
these blood and fur samples

from the trip,
and I'll take them

to some of the folks downstairs,
and they'll get us a match.

What are we looking at?

TAMMANY: Well, it's the
woods behind a farm.

I had the trail camera set to
take still photos and night

image bursts whenever
it detects a motion.

So it's not like a video.

We have gaps in the
activity that it captured.

HANS: Whoa.

TAMMANY: What's that image
at the end, a blurred one.

Best I can tell
that's a snout.

HANS: I can't say
whatever that job belongs

to is the same thing standing in
the background of those earlier

images.

[music playing]

DENISE: Maybe we're looking
at two different figures,

like a man and his dog.

TAMMANY: OK.

It's a tough call.

We'll try and run these
through a few filters,

and if we find something,
we'll let you know.

Science has kind of a
difficult time engaging

with rare phenomenon or
whispers of new organisms.

Scientists are trained
to evaluate evidence.

So when something
is very rare, it

can be difficult to get enough
evidence together to convince

the scientific community.

But scientists are always
discovering new things that

make us think, well, what might
be possible, for instance,

the Titanoboa, these giant
fossilized snakes or extinct

whales with teeth that were
bigger than a T-Rex's teeth.

And that captures
your imagination

because it makes you question
some assumptions that we make

about life today.

Has a large predator persisted
undiscovered out in the bayou?

It's certainly possible.

[door knock]

LUC: I got a call from my
old friend, Joe Broussard,

telling me something's
sneaking up on to his property

snatching his livestock.

It's up near his house.

So he's afraid for his family.

And I've known Joe
for a long time.

He don't rattle easy.

Oh, something there is good.

Is there a lock on that?

Yeah, it was.

Well, it didn't matter.

It smashed right
through that thing.

LUC: Man.

JOE: Busted his collar up.

LUC: Joseph, I'm sorry.

Can we see any
predators in the area?

Uh-uh.

I get an animal making
off with a rabbit or two,

but taking out Joe's guard dog,
it's 100-plus pound Rottweiler.

It don't sit right.

JOE: Last night, in the
middle of the night,

I heard this hellacious
noise through here.

[growl]

I can't really describe
it, but I can sure as hell

play it for you.

[frog sounds]

LESLIE: The worst sound I
ever heard, I was 10, 11.

My brother and I
used to fight a lot.

One particular night,
I hit him very hard,

and he went running
to tell mom, and I

went and hid in the woods.

I was out there
maybe 15 minutes,

and that's when I heard
this horrible sound.

I don't know if it's
metal twisting, bending,

but it really can't be because
it had an animal sound to it,

the animal maybe
being hungry, crying.

As soon as I could
get my wits together,

I ran back in the
house, and that's

the only time I've
ever been scared

of anything other than my mama.

JOE: The noise woke me up
in the middle of the night.

It scared my wife and
my boys half to death.

[howl]

[dog whine]

[howl]

[snarl]

NARRATOR: Strange sightings
and grizzly attacks

are on the rise in a small
Louisiana bayou town.

[buzz]

Members of Cajun
Beasts are trying

to put the clues together.

TAMMANY: Oh, my god.

MAN: No frickin' way, man.

NARRATOR: But even for these
veteran animal nuisance team,

things just aren't adding up.

[howl]

[dog whine]

[howl]

Now you tell me
what that sounds like.

That didn't
sound like anything

I've ever heard before.

Way out here, the sounds
at night can get distorted,

especially the sounds echoing
off the waters in the bayou.

It could be a large
pack of coyotes

or a couple of red wolves.

I think whatever it is that he's
got on that recording, that's

probably what we're looking for.

Maybe Tammany's folks at the
lab can give me some answers.

[howl]

Hans and Denise took a look
at everything we pulled off

Godet's Farm.

They ran some
tests on the traps,

and all the tissue and
blood is from a wild hog.

LUC: It's not uncommon for
wild hogs to be in that area.

TAMMANY: Yeah.

LUC: They bust in and out
of traps all the time.

TAMMANY: They took a
look at the footage,

but they couldn't say
for sure what it was.

The flash in the lens, they
think it's a mammal, possibly

a canine.

A well-traveled animal trail
leading to the water like that,

it could be a number of
different animals over

the course of a night--

hogs, red wolves, deer.

What's got me stumped
is that upright shadow.

Now we've got Joe's
strange recording.

[howl]

What the hell is that?

The frustrating
thing is is there's

answers to all of what's
been happening out here,

but we're stuck with
only the questions.

Too many questions, it
leaves people worried.

I was hoping maybe
your friend, Hans,

can help us out
with this one too.

[music playing]

I transferred to this office
a few years ago from the larger

parish, and I tell
you what, we've

been having some weird
things going on lately.

One of the biggest
upswings we've

been having is animal problems,
both wild and domestic.

And, look, I am not
good with animals.

I don't trust them.

[radio chatter]

The Jagneauxs.

Seeing the Jagneaux
boys around town

ain't exactly a good omen,
seeing loading up with guns,

ammo, god knows what else.

Seems like half the
crimes around here

center around that family.

Jagneauxs own a large
tract of land by the swamp,

also runs alongside
Larry Godet's farm.

That's where we found that
cow that was torn apart

the other day.

Larry Godet thought
a group of these boys

might have been
what cut up his cow.

They were a little
more than hostile

when I tried to ask them
a few questions about it.

Hey, why are you
harassing my family?

LAMBERT: I got to see
what this is all about.

Everybody around here knew
about the Jagneaux family.

They'll fight their dogs.

[dog bark]

They fight anything
they can get a hold of.

Those poor animals, they suffer.

They got away from
moonshine, and they've

been cooking something.

I don't know what
it is, but it's

been cooking for quite a while.

You can't miss it when
they come in town.

I would never go near their land
because I don't think I'd ever

be seen again.

LAMBERT: Headed over to
Outdoor Express, finally

get a chance to check
back in with Fred,

see if he has any leads on
what cut into Larry's cow.

And what I came up with
was this little lady.

She's more of a collector's
item than a hunting knife.

You know anyone with
something like this?

Not around here.

I actually never
saw one like that,

but can order them
on the catalog now.

That what you think
I'm looking for?

I doubt it.

Even with a knife
like this, a human

would have made deeper cuts
than what was found on that cow.

I still think you've got
a crazed, sick animal

on your hands.

Those slashes were a frenzy.

You mind if I take this
in, get it on record?

Sure.

Those Jagneaux boys,
should I be worried

they're in here stocking up?

They are riled
up now that Amos

has been missing for a month.

Amos Jagneaux is missing.

I wouldn't worry about Amos.

He's one of the
toughest of those boys.

I'm more worried about the
Jagneauxs being on edge

in a way that I've
never seen before.

You know, a lot of people
that live here in the swamps,

in the southern bayous, they're
here because they don't want

to be in main society.

The folks who first settled
here were really anti-authority.

They came here for
the simple reason

to get away from the
rule and the governments

and the taxes and all that.

We handle things
our own way here.

When things come down to it,
we take care of it ourselves.

[gunshot]

TAMMANY: I came
back to the Ecolab

to talk to Hans and Denise
about that recording

that Luc brought in.

I'm just hoping that they can
tell us what animal or animals

we're hearing on that tape.

We have a catalog of calls of
animals all across the region.

Mhm.

HANS: This is the audio
that was given to Luc.

[howl]

It's almost a combination
of different sounds.

That first sound,
it was kind of canine.

It's like a howl.

[grunt]

It's difficult to say exactly
what we hear in the recording.

There's a whooping sound
that, when taken alone,

resembles something that
you'd hear coming from an ape.

But an ape is not something
you should hear in this area.

And right here, [howl] there's
an avian quality to it too.

TAMMANY: All three
animals in one?

Three in one.

[howl]

I had a couple of my
interns pull about hundreds

of our best guesses,
and this was

the best we could come up with.

[snarl]

Now this is a black vulture.

[snarl]

TAMMANY: There's only that
one moment that kind of

sounds similar.

Your sample.

[howl]

A black vulture can make
a variety of strange sounds,

but given what Tam brought
in, this is not a match.

There are a number
of web communities

where researchers post
their projects online,

and anyone who wants to can
try to solve parts of it.

TAMMANY: I mean, if you
think it's going to help.

Well, here's hoping.

I've never heard
anything like this before.

I'd prefer to know what
exactly is out there.

[howl]

One of the tools that
scientists have developed

to try to identify animals
are to use spectrograms

or sonograms, which are a way
to capture the information

in a vocalization.

From sound
recordings, scientists

can analyze the frequencies
and patterns in the sound

and categorize species according
to the noises that they make.

If you've got a reliable catalog
of the songs of the species

in a particular area, and
someone brought you a recording

of a song that didn't
match any of those,

it would be reason to
think maybe there's

something out there that
I just haven't found yet.

[music playing]

One of the most
famous audio recordings

is the Sierra
Sounds, and they are

a set of recordings of presumed
Sasquatch vocalizations--

[growl]

- -made by witnesses occupying
a hunting camp in that region

and their ongoing interaction
with presumably a number

of individual Sasquatch.

[growl]

[bark]

The Sierra sound recordings
have been subjected

to several analyses, actually.

It was determined that the
vocal capacity was beyond that

of the human range.

It also suggested that the vocal
tract was from a creature that

was somewhere between
8 and 9 feet in height.

So that leaves the
possibility open

that these are the vocalizations
of some unknown creature.

[snarl]

We got a call from this
family out about as far

as we serve who are getting
overrun with armadillos.

They carry rabies, so
we've been setting traps.

As a matter of fact--

what in the hell?

Good god.

What the hell is this?

These kills are fresh.

Whoever did this
is still close by.

These things weren't found dead.

They killed them first.

Then they strung them up.

I don't know why
a hunter did that.

Damn thing just keeps going.

Oh, man, somebody's pet cat.

I'm going to radio the sheriff.

I've messed with wild animals.

I don't want to mess
with no crazy person.

All right, we'll

send a deputy on your way.

You know whose land
it is, by the way?

No idea.

I don't know if it
belongs to anybody.

OFFICER (ON RADIO): All right.

I've always loved being
outdoors, digging up details

in the dirt, looking for
little things other folks

tend to miss.

I went to college a couple
of years, part time,

but my daddy always
said, head knowledge

can't make up for what
you lack in experience.

[radio chatter]

[slam]

MAN: Oh, [bleep].

NARRATOR: Officials
in Southern Louisiana

are investigating a rash
of animal mutilations.

The sheriff's department
is trying to determine

if a person is responsible.

LAMBERT: What the hell they
need with all those guns.

NARRATOR: But some townsfolk
believe the culprit is

something more dangerous.

That's a big one, all right.

NARRATOR: They think it's the
work of a local bayou monster

called the rougarou, a
vicious beast that resembles

a werewolf.

[growl]

[slam]

MAN: Oh, [bleep].

TAMMANY: [bleep].

You all right?

[bleep]

Something hit us.

Out of the corner my eyes,
like, this dark blur just

ran straight at us.

Did y'all see anything?

Oh, my god.

What the hell?

I can't find nothing.

What the hell hits a truck
going 30 miles an hour

and just walks away?

Jules, you copy?

JULES (ON RADIO): Yeah, I do.

I'm gonna need a
tow off of Highway 22,

right past the old bridge.

JULES (ON RADIO): What's
wrong with the truck?

You'll see when you get here.

[radio chatter]

So I've got neighboring
sheriff's offices

sending me over files of
their missing person cases.

About two weeks ago,
we found a video

of a hiker getting attacked.

We haven't found any
sign of them since.

Then we have this local
man, Amos Jagneaux.

He's now missing.

Right now, I-- I can't
make the assumption

that their disappearances
are even connected.

The fact is, unfortunately,
a lot of people

go missing in this
part of Louisiana.

When you get lost in the
swamp, pretty much you--

you belong to the swamp.

There's so many dangers out
there, you just never know

what's out there
waiting for you.

You'll definitely hear
of cases of people dying

in these swamps.

If they don't know the
swamp, they're not coming back.

[click]

You still look
a little shook up.

What happened?

Something came at me
from god knows where,

somewhere over there.

I saw it out of the
corner of my eye, but--

Nothing.

It's like a big, huge wrecking
ball just completely tore it

up.

The whole back end
is completely ruined.

Let me finish winching it up.

Probably just a big buck deer.

They get scared and confused,
and they run straight out right

into oncoming cars all the time.

I saw a TV show one time about
Bigfoot taking two or three

steps right across the road.

[howl]

There's some very, very
strange creatures hiding around

here in this swamp.

There's a Bigfoot in
the swamp about 15 miles

from here, big hairy,
upright walking creature.

I believe there is
a creature out there.

If I would see that
creature, I'd run like hell

and say, God, please help
me, and let me get away.

JEFF MELDRUM: Cryptids are
potentially species of animals

that are unknown or for which
there is not definitive proof

of their existence.

If we rank the potential
cryptids on the basis

of the evidence that--

that currently exists
for them, Sasquatch

would outstrip most of
these other cryptids by far.

There are all types of evidence,
physical evidence in the form

of hair and scat,
sample after sample,

that defies attribution to known
species, definitely primates.

There are also eyewitness
accounts from America

to the Himalayas.

The most credible ones
come from those areas

where the habitat will support
a large, omnivorous mammal, who

could remain undetected.

We also have lots of
photographs and videos.

The best evidence is, for
me, the footprint evidence.

Something is leaving
these tracks,

and I think that those
people who are trained

should be able to distinguish
from a hoax and the real McCoy

by many, many examples of the
footprints that are accumulated

now in my laboratory.

I'm convinced by the evidence
that Sasquatch exists.

somebody would want to
do something like this.

I saw some animals
strung up by the road.

get some pets, it looks like,

All of them would be
dead if it wasn't for me.

out of the woods,

and I got to defend myself.

down their hatchet?

DUCRE: We responded
to a call from Luc.

He had discovered a bunch of
dead animals strung up all

through the woods out on 42.

When we arrived at the scene,
we found a local woman,

Shelley Warner, openly
admitting to the killings.

She was disoriented, aggressive.

So we arrested her, and we
charged her with animal cruelty

and civil disobedience.

Oh, good lord, somebody's dog.

Flies are just taking
everything over.

How could an old lady like
that do something so evil?

I mean, she's just
completely lost it.

OK, Shelley, we're going
to have to hold you here

until the owners of every pet
and farm animal you slaughtered

can be contacted, until they
decide to either press charges,

or we can release you.

We'll remove the animal
carcasses from your property

and arrange proper disposal.

SHELLEY: You did what?

The animals that
you slaughtered--

No, you should
not have done that.

These animals were meant
as sacrifice offerings

to lure the rougarou
away from the town, away

from these people.

Don't you know I tried
to protect the people?

It's the rougarou.

He's responsible for all
the bad things that go on.

Don't you realize that?

You mean people?

People do that stuff.

SHELLEY: No, the evil spirits.

How do you arrest
that evil spirits?

Sacrifices.

OFFICER: Sacrifices?

SHELLEY: We have lots
of folks like this.

I'm not naming reasons,
but it's hard living.

We see all types.

RONALD MARKMAN: Fear is a
very powerful motivator.

There have been events
in our historical pattern

that demonstrate the impact
of fear on our society.

The Salem Witch Trials is an
example of that, where people

acted in an erratic, impulsive,
unrealistic, unconventional

manner to achieve
ends that they thought

would be self-protective.

TAMMANY: Evidence
keeps piling up,

but I still can't figure out
who or what broke our traps

and trail cam out
at Godet's farm.

We can't identify the
animal on that tape

that Joe Broussard gave to
Luc, can't figure out what's

been killing his animals.

And now police got a call
from some residents hearing

some strange noises coming
from an abandoned sugar mill

out by the bayou.

The sheriff seems to think
that it's an animal in origin.

So I'm going to head over
there and see what I can find.

The mill is just up ahead.

Animals love abandoned
buildings like that.

It's like a haven for them.

There's the old trio.

Tam?

Where's your light?

Dammit.

Nobody's been in this sugar
mill, probably been 20 years.

TAMMANY: In an abandoned
building like this,

I would expect to find
animals around every corner.

It's really strange.

I can't tell--

I forgot to tell you
about that stench.

You smelled decomposing
bodies before?

TAMMANY: That
explains the smell.

Whatever did this had
a hearty appetite.

LAMBERT: We ain't even got to
the part that really freaked me

be dealing with a gator.

definitely a nest.

squatter set ups.

This has to be some
kind of animal.

What the hell is that?

TAMMANY: I got to measure this.

It's bigger than my tape.

I ain't never measured
a nest this big.

There's no way this could
be a gator nest this far

from the water.

LAMBERT: Hey, Tam, can I
borrow one of your gloves?

Grab it.

LAMBERT: Tam.

TAMMANY: Yeah?

LAMBERT: You got to
take a look at this.

It looks like a bear claw
except the color's wrong.

Its too light.

A black bear would be-- would
be darker, like a light brown.

I knew this
wasn't no squatter.

She doesn't even have an idea.

So then what we're doing--

TAMMANY: It's a trio.

It's a trail.

LAMBERT: You all right?

What you mean, hold on?

Tam?

TAMMANY: It's fresh.

Come on.

It's a trail.

LAMBERT: Tammany, hold up.

TAMMANY: The trail keeps going.

Where are you going, Tam?

That's the opening.
It's probably where it came in.

The trail's pretty clear.

Head straight that way.

Straight ahead?

Yeah, straight
to that cane field.

LAMBERT: You could
tell where it went in?

TAMMANY: Yeah, look, right
over there, right to the left.

All right.

You see it?

of really strange things

that happen down here.

You got things like swamp
creatures, rougarous--

It's definitely nicer
walking through the cane

during the daytime.

rattled last night.

LUC: You just lead us to the
spot you got spooked, see if we

see any signs of anything.

That's a hell of a mess here.

We're going to have to

It's got to be something

LUC: There's broken cane
and deep divots everywhere.

JULES: No, not
particularly here.

I just remember hearing this
crazy screaming and tailing it

out.

There ain't no tracks.

Oh, the path I'm finding is
the one going back to the mill.

TAMMANY: This
doesn't make sense.

There's no clear pathway to
where it entered and exited.

It's just like the
cane just flattened.

What the hell could
have done this?

A hog could do this.

Hogs are known for
destroying a cane field.

They come in, they root,
trying to find stuff to eat,

but all the roots and
everything was still there.

A hog is not going to just
come in and do all this work

for the hell of it.

I ain't found nothing near
the bayou, no tracks, no trails.

It's just like Mr. Larry's
place with that cow.

Why don't we hang up
a trail camera or two

in case something
comes back and see

if we can't catch a glimpse?

JULES: I'll tell you, me and
Luc have been working together

for a long time.

Luc ain't the type to
just show his cards.

If he gets rattled
about something,

you damn sure know that you
need to be worried over it too.

LAMBERT: Hey, Chief, a body
in the swamp, cause of death

is yet to be determined.

LAMBERT: Nah.

LAMBERT: Sheriff's office
got a call this morning

from a trapper.

Apparently he was
way out in the swamp,

and he came across a corpse.

No identity has been
established just yet,

but that's what we're
here to find out.

Woo, hmm.

LAMBERT: Yeah.

LAMBERT: I don't recognize him.
Do you, [inaudible]?

OFFICER: Not what's left of him.

LAMBERT: He wasn't in the water?

LAMBERT: The body was in pretty
rough shape, had some cuts.

You know, if you remember
Larry Godet's cow looked

a lot like that.

We got footage a weeks
back of this missing hiker.

[roar]

Then we have this local
man, Amos Jagneaux.

He's now missing.

And now we get this body.

Folks were already
scared when it was just

their animals turning up dead.

OK.

I wish I had answers that
could make people feel better,

but if you ask me, I'm
afraid whatever took down

that cow moved on to
bigger and badder prey.
