I've been playing music
since I was four years old.

The main driver for it
was my grandfather.

He was a jazz musician
played violin.

We would play songs together.

I would accompany him on the
piano while he played violin.

It was a very beautiful time.

My grandfather
always dreamed of playing in

massive bands and orchestras,

and he never really got
the chance to do that.

Me chasing this dream
is carrying on that legacy.

I am the frontman of a band,
The Kick Ons.

The way we work together as a band,
it's pretty wicked.

This is the first time that I'm,

For me, the reason why I didn't turn

and I was a millimetre away

was because I wanted to hear you,

and really tap into

something that feels
truly authentic to you.

I-I auditioned
for my band back in 1993.

I was 16 years of age.

Now, I got into the band,

but when we went
into the first studio

to record our first single,

the producer was quite a,

a very successful producer.

He'd worked with a lot of big bands,

and he said to our manager,
"Get rid of the blonde guy.

"He can't sing."

Now, my manager came
and told me this.

Clearly he was right.
He was absolutely right.

(LAUGHTER)
You know, I've never looked back.

Um, but, you know, my manager came
and told me that

now, it could have done two things.

Could have, you know,
got all down on myself

and bloody depressed
and left the band

and thought, this is not for me.

Or I can go and better myself
and-and be the best version

of, of me that I can be.

And I went and I did that,

and I proved that producer wrong

and I became the lead vocalist
in the band.

The guys have already told you.
You have the voice. It's there.

You have what it takes.
You need more experience.

learning curve.

The thing that's great
is I think that your range

and your instrument
is so strong that

you can fine tune that,

And try to round that note

and try to take it
a little bit out of your head,

out of your nose.
