One night
my boyfriend was staying
at my house,

Scott kicked down
the door.

Hogtied my boyfriend.

And assaulted me.

The boyfriend
is asking Larissa,

is he Mafia
or something?

And Larissa said,
"No, he's worse.

He's my ex."

I thought
what's gonna happen now?

Is he gonna
try to finish the job?

Welcome to Very Scary People.

I'm Donnie Wahlberg.

In the 1990s,
one of the most devious

serial killers
in American history,

began terrorizing young women
in the Pacific Northwest.

Scott Lee Kimball,

drew his victims
in with charisma
and affection.

Once they let
their guard down,
he would strike

It wasn't just his victims
that fell for Kimball's lies
and manipulation.

He was even able
to fool the FBI

who considered him
a valuable informant,

earning Kimball
the nickname

the Real Hannibal.

I just remember
that night,

It's getting pretty late.

Dad came in and asked me
to go outside and play.

We go out there
and there's a cattle grate

that's leaning up
against one of the trucks.

My dad tells me to look
in that direction.

And he wanted me
to dig this hole.

He told me to keep
my head up high.

Pushed me to the ground.

I felt the grate
hit my head.

And I was just
screaming the entire time.

And then I remember
just seeing a bunch of, like,

bright lights flashing.

It felt like there was a big
like, ringing sounds.

My dad put me
in the front seat of his jeep.

Just drive me
to the hospital.

The next thing I know,
the car door is open.

And he pushed me
out of the car.

And I'm out
of the car door.

And I'm yelling
at the top of my lungs.

I'm trying to slow
the car down,

but the car wasn't
slowing down.

If anything,
it was speeding up.

And then
I started feeling

the bottom of the ground

started grazing like,
my back.

And at that point,
I like, told myself that

this is how I die.

Scott Kimball
is probably

one of the most complex

serial killers I have
ever come across.

Starting with his childhood.

Scott Kimball grew up
in Lafayette, Colorado,

which is about 20 miles
northwest of Denver.

It's fairly close
to the foothills

and the start
of the Rocky Mountains.

He had a younger
brother, Brett.

Had a mom and dad.

Virgil and Barb.

Scott became
quite an outdoorsman

and he got into
hunting, fishing,

But at age 10,
Scott Kimball's
parents' divorce

his mother eventually
moves in with another woman.

Barb found
a life partner,

and Scott resented
Barb for that.

He blamed Barb
for the divorce.

His father
moves out of state
to Montana,

so family falls apart.

Everything he thought
was true and was real

all disappeared.

Scott went to live
with his grandmother

in a trailer park
in Lafayette.

And then a friendly
neighborhood father figure.

Named Ted Peyton
comes in the picture,

takes pity on him.

Scott was overjoyed
because he thinks

somebody cares.

Ted Peyton starts with giving
Scott a lot of attention,

so he would take
Scott to a cabin.

He ended up sexually
abusing him for years.

Ted Peyton
tied him up, took photos

and he said that,
"If you tell anyone

I'm gonna
kill your father."

So he sees this man
playing the savior

like I'm going to come in
and be the man

that your father isn't.

But then
there's the thief,

which is, "I'm going
to take your innocence."

But then, on top of that,
he's also saying,

"And I'm going
to kill someone.

If you tell anyone."

So later on this complex

that's getting imprinted.

The savior, the thief
and the killer.

We see this play out

over and over again.

In 1981, Scott
moved from Lafayette,
Colorado to Montana,

to live with his father.

And he went
to high school there.

But he dropped out
in his senior year,

He starts
getting arrested
up there in Montana

for check fraud, forgeries.

Around 17, 18 years old,

he gets kicked out
of the house.

For the next
several years,

Scott drifts
from job to job

and girlfriend
to girlfriend.

until he meets
one of the most

important women in his life.

I first met Scott

through my sister,

and we were introduced.

And my first
impression was

yeah, he's pretty cute.

Yeah, he had that
the little cowboy
looked to him.

He had a beautiful smile.

He just was very

very captivating,
I thought.

He told me he worked
for the Forest Service,

which I thought
was very admirable.

He asked me out
quite a bit,

which was um, fabulous.

Probably moved a lot quicker
than I probably should have.

But again, he was just--

He was just so captivating

and so I just went
along with everything.

Hmm.

He said he'd gotten
into some trouble

as a young boy.

But it was nothing big.

So I didn't
think much of that.

Women
have been taught

to believe in
the happily ever after.

That Prince Charming
is right around the corner.

Yeah, a little red flag here,
A little red flag there.

They're denying it
because they're so desperate

to hold onto that version
of the fantasy.

So after dating Scott
for about six months,

Um, he just all of a sudden
stopped calling me.

Stopped coming by.

Stopped any kind
of communication.

And I found out that
he was seeing somebody else.

That kind of destroyed me.

I did, I loved him. Yeah.

I didn't hear from him.

For a long time.

But in western Montana,
small town

news travels
very quickly.

Scott was 23-years-old
at the time.

He was wanting
to marry a girl,

and she was saying no.

He was getting drunk
and getting angry.

And more drunk
and more angry,

grabs a rifle

and he points the gun
up towards his head at first.

And then points
it right here last second.

He survived it,

but because of the concussion
of the round,

it took off the front part
of his forehead.

And they had
to stitch it back up.

So it damaged
his frontal lobe.

And we know
that with serial killers

that the prefrontal cortex
is an area

that often doesn't
light up the same way.

After that,

I remember hearing
he got married.

I didn't hear
from him again until

I was at a birthday party
in the early 90s,

and there he was

I think my heart

leaped out of my chest.

I was very, very
excited to see him.

I-- Big hugs.

Sparks flew.

We did start an affair.

That-- Pretty much
that weekend.

He told me that he was
going to go back home

and tell his wife
that he wanted a divorce.

And I was like, great.

I don't recall
how long it took,

but he got
the divorce papers

and we got a place
together in Spokane.

And it was Valentine's Day

and he had a big box
of chocolates

and I opened up the box

and there was an engagement
ring in there.

I was ecstatic.

This was what I wanted

from the very beginning,
when we first met in 1988.

You know.

Then on June 26,

we had the big
church wedding.

At that time,
I was three months pregnant,

That's when the red flags
started showing up.

I had gone home to visit
my parents for the weekend,

and Scott calls me
and he says,

"Your cat's been shot."

"What do you mean?
He's been shot?"

"He's been shot."

And I hung up
the phone

and my mom says,
"He shot him.

He shot your cat."

And I was like, "No."

She says, "Yes.
I'll bet you money"

I was very naive

when it came to Scott.

You just don't see
what others can see.

In the summer
of 1993,

Scott Kimball marries
25-year-old Larissa.

And the newlyweds
rent a home

in Spokane, Washington

I was about three
months pregnant
when we got married.

Justin was born
in December.

And Scott was very
hands on as a dad.

Changing diapers, feedings
whenever he could.

And all the stuff that Dad's
we're supposed to do.

Can you see,
little brother?

You're gonna have
to look out for him.

Then Cody was born.

And I thought,
we have the perfect family.

Everything is going
to be great.

Scott worked
for a tree company,

and he was
a great provider.

We paid our bills.

Uh, we had little,
big vacations,

but we did little things.

Yeah, it was It was fine.

For the first while
he's the breadwinner.

And so she feels
like she's really got
a solid savior type.

My dad was a fun person
to be around as a kid.

I just always remember
looking forward

to spending
time with him.

But then,
as you know, time goes on.

Things started to unravel.

And all of a sudden
the thief shows up.

We were big
into snowmobiling.

In your land,
you got a crank

or you're gonna
hit some cars.

So Scott convinced
several people
from our church.

Hey, I can get you
a heck of a deal
on some snowmobiles.

I just need
X amount of dollars.

He took their money.

And never
delivered snowmobiles.

Process servers started
showing up on our doorstep.

Frequently,
serving us papers.

We were being sued.

Scott secured a job
in eastern Montana.

A huge job.

So much so
that his brother
had moved his wife

and young family

to this little small town
in eastern Montana.

Scott had promised

to come home
every 10 days.

He did that once.

There we go.
What's this? Whoo!

And then
never came back.

I don't recall
how much longer it was

when my sister in law

told me that Scott
was dating a woman.

And I'd actually
moved in with her.

It hurt, obviously.

But in retrospect,

it was what
I we needed to move on.

Yeah.

Once she files
for divorce,

Scott just unleashes
hell on her.

So after the divorce,

I found out that if you
were nice and agreed

and didn't rock the boat,

life was good.

That meant, acting like
nothing ever happened.

I tried dating
that didn't go well.

I met a wonderful man.

And we hit it off.

And I remember
one night in particular,

my boyfriend was staying
the night at my house.

Scott kicked down
the front door,

raced upstairs,

and hogtied my boyfriend.

Took me downstairs and...

If I had said no

and pushed him away
it would have been violent.

So I just let him.

The boyfriend
is asking Larissa,

"Who is this guy?

How does he know
we're here?

Is he Mafia or something?"

And Larissa said,

"No, he's not Mafia.
He's worse. He's my ex."

He rapes her.

In order to almost claim her.

This is my family.

To most people,
it looks crazy.

But to him it makes
perfect sense.

Divorces for Scott Kimball,
represented a time

when everything
fell apart

because in 1976 not only
were his parents divorced,

but he lost his family.

He's also getting
sexually abused.

So when Scott
gets divorced,

he suddenly becomes
the rapist.

The saddest.

The very scary
version of a person,

which he couldn't
believe he exists.

It's like
Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde

Needless to say,
and I don't blame
my boyfriend at the time,

he ended it.

Um...

Sorry.

Larissa doesn't
report the assault to police,

fearing Scott will hurt
or even kill her.

And she never
tells her kids.

By now,
Scott is single again.

And he's moved
into an apartment

just down the street

just so that they can
spend time together.

So we went
to a concert

and he's got a couple
of shots of tequila.

So, you know, we do
our shots of tequila.

I don't remember
anything else.

Until, at some point,

I remember being
slung over his shoulder

and him walking
up the steps.

And then I remember
being at our vehicle.

And then he shoved me
down onto the ground

and assaulted me.

And then the next
thing I know,

Scott's there
and he's saying,
"Hey, what's up?

What-- What's going on?
Why are you on the ground?"

And I was like,

"Why did you do that?"

Scott Kimball
is constantly tormenting her,

and there's something
about this that makes him feel

very much in control

and that he--
he owns her.

Yes.

Hmm.

They questioned him.

But he's Scott.

He can convince
anybody of anything.

And he convinced
the police Department

that it was totally
consensual

It was, he said, she said.

He would go
to the police and say,

"My wife's about
to report this,

and it's just because
she wants custody
of the children.

But I will take
a polygraph up front

and I guarantee you
she won't.

And if she will,
she'll fail."

And she
was too nervous.

I understand,
she took a few.

They're inconclusive.

It doesn't mean
she failed.

It just means,
you're too nervous.

Scott's like this
the whole time.

So he passes them.

And so once you file
one or two reports,

the cops are going to think

you're either crazy
or you're a liar.

Or like Scott said,
you're trying
to manipulate them.

He laughed at me.

And he was like,
"You're so stupid."

He says, "They're never
gonna believe you.

You can't even
pass a polygraph."

One time he used
a credit card
to get in the door.

And was hiding
in the attic,

waiting for her to come home.

He hog ties me,
and he puts me
in the back of the jeep

And tells me to lay down.

And I can tell at this point,
we're four wheeling.

We're off road,
in the mountains.

We get to a clearing.

And then
he brings out a knife.

And then he assaults me
again at knife point.

And at that point
I knew I was dead.

In 1999,

33-year-old Scott Kimball

kidnaps his ex-wife, Larissa.

He takes her
into the mountains
and rapes her.

We're heading
back up north to Spokane.

I'm not
shackled anymore.

Pulls into this
truck stop.

He gets out.

I'm like,
"See you later."

I jump in the s--
the driver's seat.

And I'm heading home.

That's the one time

Scott finally got kidnapping
charges filed against him

because he had
hid in her attic

but left behind

It's almost like a rat's nest
up top in the attic.

Where they found
his fingerprints
on the coke can

and whatever
else was up there.

So he finally
left some evidence.

The police
tried to arrest him,

but Scott runs.

He steals a truck,

takes on his
brother's name, Brett.

And in August 2001,

He jumps
on a fishing boat

and starts sailing out
into the ocean,

coming way up on those
Aleutian Islands in Alaska.

When he lands up there
on a Dutch harbor.

There's a bar called
the Unisea Inn there.

Scott befriends
the bartender,

and this is where
the best term

that I have for Scott's
manipulative abilities is

Pixie dust.

It's almost like
he can just

sprinkle something
in your eyes

and you think he's
the best thing on the planet.

So the bar owner's
name is Katherine.

He sprinkles
his pixie dust on her

and next thing you know,
they're engaged.

But the whole time
he'd been writing bad checks

payable to himself

from the crew
that employed him,

and it's thousands
of dollars of bad checks.

And so then,
he gets arrested
for check fraud.

Realizing that
they have Scott

and not his brother
Brett in custody.

The police throw him
into an Anchorage jail,

where he awaits trial.

While in jail

he takes his manipulation
to the next level.

And rats out
his fellow inmates.

The information that he had
was about his cellmate,

a guy named
Arnold Wesley Flowers.

His girlfriend worked
at a bank

and Flowers
had gotten information

from the bank
that allowed him

to make counterfeit checks

in people's names,
with their real account
numbers and everything.

Flowers and his girlfriend
wanted to kill the witness

in the case against them,

and he had told
Kimball this.

And so Scott set up
a number of phone calls

between the hitman
and Flowers, who was in jail.

So we recorded
those calls.

And ultimately his girlfriend

met with the hitman

and the hitman being
an undercover ATF agent.

And it was very clear
that the intent

is to kill the witness.

The case is coming
together quite well.

But Scott
started saying

that he was worried
about his safety

and he needed to be moved
to a different jail.

Which is ultimately why
he got moved to Colorado.

The feds take over
Scott's check fraud charges

from the state of Alaska.

And he meets with FBI eye
liaison Carle Schlaff.

At the Denver jail.

He tells Schlaff,
he has information
about his new cellmate,

an accused drug dealer
named Steve Ennis.

Scott claimed that he
knew about a witness

that Steve wanted killed.

So Scott
is telling law enforcement.

"Hey, I'm going to help you
stop a murder for hire plot."

He had already worked

on a very important case
out of Alaska.

So, Agent Schlaff thought
this was a good, known,

reliable informant.

And he was able
to convince the FBI.

to let him out,

to keep an eye
on Steve Ennis's girlfriend,
Jennifer Marcum.

who Scott claimed

was going to be
the point person

to try to get
somebody whacked.

He decides he's going
to help the FBI.

"I'm going to be
an informant.

I'm going to help you
save lives."

I'm going to be a savior.

But then, in becoming
the FBI informant,

he goes on to become
a killer.

Scott gets out of prison
in December of 2002,

and he's now
an FBI informant. Paid.

And he ends up contacting
Jennifer Marcum

Jennifer Marcum
was a stripper
at a local place

and close
to downtown Denver.

She expressed
some distaste for some

of her boyfriend's associates,

but never unveiled a plan
to have anybody killed

or was going to play
any role in that.

My personal belief
is he had a real

attraction for Jennifer.

Jennifer was a beautiful
young woman,

and I think he liked having
that connection to her.

He liked
being around her.

He developed that relationship
and was promising her.

Hey, I can get you
out of stripping.

I can set you up
in this legitimate
coffee business.

Let's work together.

Jennifer disappeared
on February 17.

She was supposed to go
to a coffee shop up north.

What the FBI I found
was that her phone

and his phone shut off

simultaneously
on February 17.

She was never seen again.

When Jennifer Marcum
disappears in February 2003,

No one draws the connection
to Scott Kimball.

He's concocted a ruse
so grand

that it leads the FBI
to believe he's still
keeping tabs on her.

What no one realizes
is that while Scott
was in prison,

he targeted
a second victim,

the girlfriend
of another inmate.

When they
walked the yard,

Kimball knew that Steve Holley
had a life sentence

and he said,
"I can help you escape

While in custody
with Scott Kimball.

Steven Holley eventually
introduces his girlfriend,

LeAnn Emry, to Scott .

Scott Kimball was getting
out of custody,

and he wanted
the two of them to connect.

Steve told LeAnn

that this guy would help her
with this escape plan.

As the two plot
Scott tells Steve

to use a nickname
when referring to him.

Scott wants
to be called Hannibal

after the serial killer
from the movie

Silence of the Lambs.

LeAnn learns
his name is Hannibal.

She didn't-- Never really
gets the true identity.

And so in the time
that she was in contact

with Scott Kimball,

she only knew him
as Hannibal.

Hannibal Lecter
as a character

was a very smart person,
as Scott Lee Kimball was.

Who outsmarted
the authorities.

And he was also
an FBI informant.

People forget that.
But Hannibal Lecter
was FBI informant

When Scott gets out,

he tells his
FBI agent here.

There's a guy named
Holley that wants
to escape from prison,

and I need
to let you know

this because he's
one dangerous SOB.

So Holley gets thrown
in lockdown.

While Holley's in lockdown,

which means
he's got no access

to phones or whatever

Scott was talking to LeAnn
17 times a day,

Scott develops
this relationship
with LeAnn Emry.

and in fact
for several weeks.

They are kind
of traversing

different states
around this are.

She actually
buys a handgun for Scott
up in Washington,

and then they come all the way
back down here to Denver.

She's telling her parents
that she's gone

caving in Mexico
the whole time.

LeAnn Emry did contact
a family member by email

and gave sort of
this cryptic account

of being with a guy
named Hannibal.

She writes
an email talking about

how he's a blessing
in her life.

But, by the way, if

he knew I was emailing you,
he'd kill me.

When the savior shows up,

it's almost like
it's inevitable

that the thief and the killer
are not far behind.

What we last know about

LeAnn Emry is she had been
in the Grand Junction area,

about 45 minutes
to the border of Utah.

And she's checked out
of her hotel.

Scott Kimball,

his cell phone

goes dead. Turned off.

He obviously knows
phone activity

can be used to

implicate somebody in a crime.

When you traverse
over those state lines

from Colorado to Utah,

it's vast,

it's isolated,

there's nothing out there.

But a state trooper for Utah

spotted her vehicle.

So they did begin
to investigate that car.

They did locate
and figure out that
that car was LeAnn Emry's.

But that's the last
that is known of LeAnn Emry.

The FBI has no idea

that the man
they released from prison

to stop an alleged
murder-for-hire plot,

and whom they believe

is still keeping tabs
on Jennifer Marcum,

is behind the disappearance
of two women,

and he has his sights set
on yet another victim.

I first met Scott Kimball

in February of 2003.

I was playing cards
at a casino

in Black Hawk, Colorado.

And he sat down

to play the same game.

Scott was telling me
about his life.

He says he has two young sons.

That he worked for the FBI.

I had no reason to doubt
anything he was telling me.

There was
something in Lori

that he recognized.
He could sense there was

a yearning for a savior.

And I think it's that part
that he picks up on

and he's like, "Ah.
And I can be that for you."

And so eventually I wound up

giving Scott Kimball
my number.

And as she's
handing him her number,

she asks him, "You're not
a convicted felon, are you?"

Isn't that interesting?
That she would ask him that

even though he said he's FBI.

Then he goes,
"No, I just told you I'm FBI."

He called me the next night
and we made arrangements for

a date on the 14th.

The only reason
I remember that

is because that's
Valentine's Day.

And he brought me flowers

and we went to drinks,

and he was very nice.

Scott took me
to the FBI building

and he showed me around,

and then,
introduced me to Carle,

telling me that was his boss.

And Carle didn't say
anything different.

The only red flag

that I can think of with Scott

was his townhome.

The first time I went
to his townhome,

I could tell it had been

decorated by a woman.

And I just
asked him straight out,

"Is there a woman
that's gonna come

and beat me up or something?

Are you dating anyone else?"

And he said, "Oh, no."

He made excuses
for the artwork

and things on the walls.

That this townhome had been
his friend Jennifer's,

and that she took off

and he had

a signed note that said

he could use her townhome

and her furniture,

and he's essentially
leasing it.

So that felt weird to me.

Two women
in Scott Kimball's life,

LeAnn Emry
and Jennifer Marcum,

vanish within
a month of each other.

When Jennifer goes missing,

Scott moves her furniture

into his home
the following week.

And now,
he has a new girlfriend,

Lori McLeod.

And she has no idea

what kind of monster
she's let into her life.

Scott and I
moved in together

shortly after we met,

and I introduced him to Kaysi.

Kaysi was my only child,

and she was a light
in our family.

Lori had, at the time,
a 19-year-old daughter
named Kaysi.

Kaysi was

somewhat troubled

in terms of her teenage life.

Her parents were divorced,

and that was hard on her.

She had gotten into drugs.

So she was going through some

more-than-typical
teenage angst and problems.

She was an artist.

She loved to draw and color.

She would make jewelry,

and she was very talented.

Scott's relationship
with Lori McLeod

begins a few weeks
after LeAnn Emry goes missing.

And a few weeks after that,

the FBI comes calling.

Kimball's handler,
Carle Schlaff,

wants to know what's happening
with Jennifer Marcum.

Scott's first explanation

to Carle was that

she had gotten on a plane
in February of 2003

and flown to New York City

to pull off a criminal act

on behalf
of her boyfriend, Steve Ennis.

And her car was recovered
at the airport about

37 days later,

impounded.

And that's when
questions started to arise.

What happened
to Jennifer Marcum?

As police investigate,

Scott is arrested again.

But the charge is not related
to Jennifer's disappearance.

Scott got arrested
for yet another

check fraud violation.
He gets thrown
in Denver City Jail.

He reaches out
to Agent Schlaff.

He's claiming

Jennifer's actually dead.

That he's now seen pictures.

And says another individual,
Jason Price,

who was also associates
with Steve Ennis...

is actually responsible

for Jennifer's death.

"Get me out of jail
and I'm gonna help you

find Jennifer's killer."

Carle Schlaff wasn't gonna
just let him walk willy-nilly.

He had him undergo
a polygraph test.

That polygraph test happened

three days
after Scott got arrested.

And it was,

"Do you know
who killed Jennifer?"

"Yes, I do."

"Is the person's name
Jason Price?"

"Yes, it is."

"Did he say
he strangled Jennifer?"

"Yes, he did."

He passed.

So, Scott's
let out of jail the next day.

We all thought,
"What the heck is

Agent Schlaff doing?"

But Scott was able
to manipulate

very educated, smart people

into doing things for him

that you would never think
that they would do.

And so,
he had the FBI chasing

Jason through strip clubs
and whatever here in Denver,

trying to get him
to say things on tape.

Scott, the savior,

sends the FBI
down a rabbit hole

while the thief
admits to Lori and Kaysi

that he'd been arrested

and spent a little time
behind bars.

Scott told me he had
bounced a check in Montana,

and that they prosecute you

as if you're a murderer

in Montana
if you bounce checks.

And he said because he was
not a violent criminal,

that he could work
for the FBI.

I didn't question
anything after that.

One day,

Scott brought Lori a vial...

filled with some

white powdery-type substance,

and said,
"This is evidence that

Kaysi's still using drugs.

I mean, we thought she turned
a corner, but she's not."

I said,
I'm taking her to the police.

I'm not gonna
watch her kill herself.

Kaysi was saying,
"Mom, they are lying.

They are lying.
Please believe me."

She said,
"Drug test me, I'm clean."

She said, "I don't know
who they belong to."

And I didn't believe her.

A few minutes later,
I said, "Where's Kaysi?"

And she had taken off.

Scott's like,
"Wait, wait, wait.

Let me handle this."

So he calls Kaysi, who is with

her boyfriend and says,

"Lori's mad at you,
you better not talk to her

or you'll get thrown in jail."

Then he tells Lori,

"Let me go find them,
I'll handle it."

So he separates
mom and daughter.

He puts them in a hotel

and he doesn't tell Lori

where they're at.

So he says, "You guys
don't talk for a while."

Lori got the savior who

is gonna save the day
by keeping everything safe.

But now the killer starts
to kind of take over.

We were at home one night

and she called
Scott's telephone.

And he says,
"Kaysi wants to talk to you."

So...

he let me use his phone.

And Kaysi said,

"I'm sorry.

And I love you."

Uh, that was the last time
I heard Kaysi's voice.

Scott, after two days
of separating them,

goes to pick up Kaysi
for work.

She worked at a local Subway.

Scott goes up

and tells Kaysi
it's time to go to work.

She's dressed
in her Subway uniform.

So her boyfriend
kisses her goodbye,

puts a necklace on her,

their engagement necklace.

And that's the last
anybody saw of Kaysi.

Starting on August 23rd,

his cell phone goes dead.

Turned off.

And that was
right at the time that

Kaysi McLeod disappeared.

And he says, "I have no idea."

that Scott picked her up.

to her boyfriend and says,

"Did you take Kaysi?"

And he says, "No."

Scott turns to Lori and says,

"If he took her,

I'll use the resources
of the FBI

to help find her."

Three young women

in less than eight months.

36-year-old Scott Kimball

takes Kaysi's mother Lori

on a trip to Sin City.

We had planned a vacation

to Las Vegas,

and I told him
I didn't want to go.

I wanted to wait

until Kaysi came home.

And he said,
"She's a grown woman,

she will come home
at her leisure."

I went to the police,
and they said,

"She's 19.

It's none of your business
where she is."

So he talked me into,

uh, going through
with our plans to Las Vegas.

And while we were
in Las Vegas,

it was a heavy push
to get married.

He said, "You need me.

You can't find her without me.

I can trace
her social security number

to see where she's working.

Uh, only with my help,
you'll be able to find her."

And I was numb at that point.

Lori is in
a very vulnerable position.

But she married him
because he was

the thread that was connected

to her daughter.

Had I been
thinking clearly

even for a moment,

I should have thought,
"Hey, wait a minute.

If this man cares about me,

I don't have
to be married to him to

find my daughter."

But I was not
thinking clearly.

It was easier
for me to believe

that her boyfriend

was hiding her.

There's no reason
for Scott to want

to harm her. There was no

deep connection
between the two of them.

Over the course
of the next coming months,

he actually plants evidence

in the house

to say

Kaysi must have come by.

Scott had put a necklace

on the doorknob
of her daughter's bedroom.

And then claims
to Lori, "Look.

There's that necklace.
And she's still around."

He was trying to

keep me hoping
that she was around,

and just stopping by only

when my car was missing
from the house.

It made me
feel sick that she...

didn't want
to connect with me.

With Kaysi gone,

Scott Kimball focuses
on his own sons.

The court lets him see
ten-year-old Justin

and eight-year-old Cody

every other weekend,
because, on paper,

he looks like a good dad.

Even though he's written
a few bad checks,

he's now working with the FBI.

And the warrant
for kidnapping Larissa

has magically disappeared
from his record.

He definitely
did have a different
parenting approach,

So it was always

fun going over
to our dad's house to do

things that
we weren't allowed to do
at our mother's house.

Go outside and play
whenever we wanted.

There was no real,
like, curfews or times.

Didn't have to do chores
or anything like that.

I just remember that night.

It was like around maybe
eight, nine o'clock.

Me and my brother,
we were in our room.

Our dad came in and asked us

if we wanted
to go outside and play.

So we go out there

and there's a cattle grate

that's leaning up
against one of the trucks.

I thought that was a bit odd
because it was usually

laying down,
next to the truck.

And then he sends
my brother inside.

He has me go to a spot

right by the truck.

And he tells me
to look in that direction.

He told me
to keep my head up high,

and he wanted me
to dig this hole.

The last thing I remember is

just how nice
of a night it was.

How calm it was.

I felt the impact
of the grate hit my head.

And then

I remember I was seeing
a bunch of, like,

bright lights flashing.

Felt like there was
a big, like, ringing sound.

I'm not even exactly sure
what was...

what was happening.

And then,
as I'm on the ground,

I can't move or get up,

and my first thought
was that I'm paralyzed.

Justin represents
Scott Kimball

in his own family system.

Justin turns ten years old,

which is the same year

that Scott Kimball's
parents get divorced

and that he gets targeted

by Ted Peyton.

That's when
his whole life ended.

By killing his son
at ten years old,

he's also in his own

unconscious mind, thinking,

"I'm about to save you, son,

from a whole world of pain."

So I'm on
with 911, and I said,

"My stepson's been hurt.

We need an ambulance."

My father lays me down
in front of the house.

And at that point, I'm in,
like, a state of shock.

I'm not exactly sure still
what's going on.

Uh, my brother comes out,

and then I saw
the look in his face.

It was just, like,
a look of terror, just...

Like, I don't think
I've ever seen

anyone that scared before.

While I'm on
with the 911 operator,

I see the Grand Cherokee
leaving the driveway.

My dad put me
in the front seat of his Jeep.

He's driving me
to the hospital.

And at that point,
I mean, I was

still not exactly sure
what was

going on. I just know
it's not good.

The next thing I know,
the car door is open.

He pushed me out of the car.

And I'm out of the car door.

I'm trying to hold on
to the car door and the seat.

And...

just trying to hold on.

And I'm yelling
at the top of my lungs.
I'm trying to tell him,

"Slow the car down."

But the car
wasn't slowing down.

Not at all.
Almost felt like, if anything,
it was speeding up.

And then, I started

feeling the bottom
of the ground,

it started grazing, like,
my back, you know?

And at that point, I, like,

told myself that...

this is how I die.

So I just let go.

So I flop on the road.

And then, I remember,

I'm facing the direction
the car's driving away.

There's no other car
on the road.

And I'm just looking
at this Jeep.

And it's going farther
and farther away.

It gets to the point where
I almost don't even

see it anymore.

And then I see
the brake lights flash up.

And then the car turns around.

And then he drives
the car back up.

On the road towards me.

Three women
in Scott Kimball's life
had vanished,

and now,

he's turned on someone
even closer to him.

His own son.

Scott drops
a 250-pound metal grate

on ten-year-old Justin,

then pushes him
out of a moving car

and drives off.

He drives the car back up

on the road and stops it
right where I'm at.

He picks me up and throws me
in through the open window.

And I thought that was weird,

considering, like, I just

fell out of the car and I'm
kind of bleeding everywhere.

And then,
the next thing I remember,

I wake up in a hospital.

I remember going
into the emergency room,

and his head
was all bandaged up,

amongst other parts,

you know, he was just
on this gurney wrapped up.

And there was
a priest in there

reading him his last rites.

And I looked
at him and I said,

"Get out.

My son is not gonna die."

Sorry.

I hear nurses talking,

and they said,

Scott said Justin was trying
to roll down the window

so he could get sick...

and he said he accidentally

opened the door

instead of rolling down
the window.

And he fell out.

I was standing there
and Scott comes over,
and he says,

"Let's all pray together."

That was absolutely
not in his character

to say something like that.

He was the last person
I expected to hear that from.

And I said some words

that I probably
shouldn't have said.

But I just...

I didn't...

I didn't want anything
to do with him.

Justin had
a broken back, broken leg,

horrible road rash.

So he was in an induced coma

to reduce the swelling
in his brain.

Justin's family,

including his grandmother,

Scott's mother Barb,

rushed to the hospital.

I do remember at one point
during that night,

I was out talking
with Scott's mother.

And she said, "Larissa,

I don't think
this was an accident."

And then I said,
"What do you mean?"
She says...

"A couple of weeks ago,

Scott asked me
who the beneficiary was

on Justin's
life insurance policy."

And she says,
"I told him it was him."

She says, "So, I don't think
this was an accident."

Barb knows firsthand

about the status
of Scott and Larissa's

insurance policies

because she's their
insurance agent.

Sheer panic.

Is he gonna try
to finish the job?

He can't be alone with Justin.

I have to get back in there.

I have to get back
into the room.

Here we see Scott Kimball

with the simultaneous

savior-thief-killer element
to his personality.

Because he's

driving his son
to the hospital

as the savior.

"I'm gonna save your life
by taking you myself
to the hospital."

He's shoving him out the door

because he wants
to kill his son.

And so there's
the killer aspect.

And then, the thief

is the man that's gonna
collect the insurance money

after his son dies.

After two weeks,

they brought him
out of the coma.

He woke up.

And he looked at me
and he says,

"Mom, why did Dad
do this to me?"

And I thought, "Holy cow."

As soon as I woke up,

I felt like I really

had to just...

just tell somebody.

Because I felt like
that information

might have, would have
died with me.

So I picked up the phone
and I called the police.

I was like,

"He's talking.

Get here now."

Justin said,
"I can still smell

the sweat
on my dad's hand today

when he got his hand

and pushed me
out of the jeep."

When his son
finally was able to speak,

doctors told investigators
they thought

that the injury
had been so severe

that the memories of his son

were jumbled and probably

not necessarily reliable

as testimony
in a criminal case.

The brain surgeon
told everybody that

the extensivity of my injury,

there would be no way
that I'd be able to

recall or remember anything

that happened before
or during the event.

So everything
that I said was...

no good at that point.

Mm-hmm. But, yeah,
I know the truth.

In that summer,

Scott Kimball successfully

passed a lie detector test

about the "accident"
that had happened to Justin.

So the case
had gone inactive by

the summer time of 2005.

No.

I did not get full custody
after Justin's accident.

I tried.

But I still had
to send my boys,

especially Justin,

because I thought
he's gonna finish the job.

I always felt like
in this situation, he took
his shot and he missed.

And he's not gonna
take that chance ever again

because he's got

way too many eyes on him now.

While Justin
is still in the hospital,

Scott's uncle, Terry Kimball,

comes to stay
with Scott and Lori.

Planning to help the family
while Justin recuperates.

With Uncle Terry,
he came to town with

two dogs, a truck, a trailer,

and a briefcase that had about

$15,000 cash in it.

I think divorce proceedings
were already

started for him.

So he was looking for
a new life, a new beginning.

And he was

used to just drifting.

He stayed with Lori
and Scott at their house.

Until one day in, um,

late summer of 2004

when Lori

noticed that
Terry Kimball was gone.

I came home one day

and my white leather sofa was

out by the pool.

And it had vomit on it.

And, um,

Scott said that

one of the dogs

had gotten sick on my couch.

And I said,
"That's not dog vomit.

That's human vomit."

He says, "It's Terry,

but it doesn't matter.

He's not coming back.
He's embarrassed."

And Terry got a girlfriend.

And he took off for Mexico.

He had won
a lottery of some sort.

And that he wouldn't
be coming back.

Uh, not even thinking
for a second

that he was permanently gone.

You'll hear serial killers

talk about how, like,
they feel like an entity

takes over.

"I don't know why I do this.
I just feel like

suddenly I'm possessed
and I have to do this."

So in a similar way,
with Scott,

when he's playing the savior,
the thief, and the killer,

he feels alive.
He's brought to life by that.

But it's parts of him
that he's suppressed,

but he's now processing.

Nothing was ever uncovered
that Terry had actually

played the lottery or had
moved to Mexico with anybody.

But after Terry disappeared,

Scott used

his checking account,
his credit cards,

for his own benefit.

So here we see Scott Kimball

with the simultaneous

thief and the killer
once again.

It seems that getting close
to Scott Kimball

is a very
dangerous thing to do.

His Uncle Terry
is the fourth person

who's crossed paths
with Kimball

and then vanished
into thin air.

But his killing spree
can't last forever.

Especially when
the people closest to him

finally see through his lies

once and for all.

By 2005,

Scott Kimball has been
a part-time informant

for the FBI for two years,

now supposedly trying
to find Jennifer Marcum.

Jennifer's family
has also been

frantically searching for her
since she disappeared.

And they recently learned

that FBI agent
Carle Schlaff

might know
something about the case.

Jennifer Marcum's
mom and dad

are trying to reach out
to Agent Schlaff

because Jennifer's missing
since February of 2003.

When Bob Marcum
told him that his daughter

had been missing
for quite some time,

Carle Schlaff conceded
that he knew

somebody who knew something,

but he wasn't willing
to give up
Scott Kimball's name.

But after a lot of insistence
from Bob Marcum

that he give him
more information

about what he knew
about the disappearance

of Jennifer Marcum,
his daughter,

finally, Carle Schlaff
gave him a cell phone number.

And said, "Call this number,
the guy who will answer
is called Joe Scott.

He'll have some information
for you."

I find this so crazy weird...

that here's Scott Kimball

who was given
an FBI assumed name.

That's how the Marcums
first know him.

Bob did call
that number.

Scott Kimball
was at the end of the line.

And said, "Why don't we meet?

And I can tell you
what I know."

Both Bob Marcum

and his ex-wife, Mary Willis,

met with Scott Kimball

in a restaurant.

Told them he knew
that their daughter was dead.

And that he could take them
to her remains.

The next day, he set up
a meeting with Mary Willis

at a public park,

and that's when things started
to turn rather dark.

Another kind of
one of the most odd things

I've ever seen
in all of my career
in prosecution.

Scott Kimball writes up
this kind of
waiver disclaimer form

that he presents
to Mary Willis

that basically says
she will allow Scott Kimball

to perform different kinds
of sexual acts,

sexual abuse,
bondage, strangulation,

and all kinds of things on her

as a methodology for him
to explain to Mary Willis

what happened to her daughter,
Jennifer Marcum.

And Mary is supposed
to sign her name and say,

"If we do these things,

I promise that
this is consensual,

and I won't report you
to the police."

Scott was definitely
into sexual practices

that most of us would find
just a little bit outside
the norm,

or maybe
a lot bit outside the norm.

Mary Willis
is actually so desperate
at that time

that she was actually
considering it.

Mary didn't tell Mr. Marcum
at first

and then eventually says,
"Hey, Bob, look at this."

And so, you know,
it doesn't happen.

Scott drove
to Mary Willis' hotel room
that night.

Knocked on her door,

and she said, "Nope,
I'm not answering the door."

Absolutely don't feel
right about this.

Do not want to consent
to that kind of activity.

As much as she wanted
to find out what had happened
to her daughter,

she was not gonna do that
with this guy.

And he peeled out
of the parking lot

of that hotel
and took off into the night.

More certain
than ever,

that Scott Kimball
is involved in their
daughter's disappearance,

the Marcums continue to press
the FBI to investigate him.

By the summer of 2005,

his life of lies
starts to unravel,

but not because of any work
by law enforcement.

One morning I found out
he was stealing from me

and stealing from his mother.

I'm putting an end to it.
Today's the day.

So, I got in my car and I'm--

I'm gonna drive over
and talk to Barb

and tell her
to stop giving him anything.

He knows I'm heck-bent
on getting over to his mother
to talk to her.

When I showed up,
he blocked me in the driveway

and he calls the police

and said that
I had beat him up.

When the police got there,

he showed a cut on his shin

from fixing barbed wire fence.

And I told this officer,
"Look at his body.

He's got these
all over his body.
I didn't beat him up."

And then she said,

well, he said
you threw the vacuum at him.

So, she handcuffed me
and arrested me.

Wound up costing me
about $10,000

to protect myself
against that.

I think Scott
had an innate ability

to find the weakness
in people.

He was very charismatic,
very charming,

and he just had a way
with words with people.

And I think that was the spell

that people all around him
fell under.

Scott moves
from one victim to the next.

He doesn't care who he hurts
as long as he gets
what he wants.

Once he betrays
his mother's trust

and bleeds Lori dry,

he turns on a trusted figure
from his past.

Dr. Cleve Armstrong

had actually known Scott
since Scott was a little boy.

Scott's mother, Barb Kimball,

also rented an office
out of this same house

that had been converted
into an office

with different
companies inside.

Scott was looking
into closets and storage areas

and he found the optometrist's
check books.

And he came up with a scheme

to forge
the doctor's signature
on checks

and essentially start stealing

from the optometrist's
bank account.

So, he had just
opened himself an account

and had all of those checks
getting deposited

into the fake account
he had just set up.

The bank informed
the doctor there had been

some activity of rather
large quantities of money,

$55,000, in fact,

and that's what got

Lafayette police detective,
Gary Thatcher, onto the case.

He started reaching out
to people
who knew Scott Kimball.

Detective Thatcher
started to learn a lot more

about the Scott Kimball
that on paper looked like
a nonviolent offender.

And then over
the next couple of months,

we started to realize
there were way too many
weird coincidences.

about Scott Kimball
and missing women around him.

Next stop for Gary Thatcher
was Scott Kimball.

Unfortunately, Scott Kimball
was no longer around.

He had caught wind
of the investigation
and had fled to California.

Police were able to find him
as he was driving.

-That led to a police chase
that went on for hours.

In many ways, you can look
at his life like it's been
this high-speed car chase.

It really is this escalation,
and it's fast.

And it's just--
It was gonna run out of gas.

Scott, finally,
he came out, hands up,

and he turned himself in,

and the police arrested him.

Now, they had him behind bars

as they tried to figure out
the bigger part of the story

involving missing people
at the hands of Scott Kimball.

In January 2006,

Colorado prosecutors charged
39-year-old Scott Kimball

with writing bad checks.

By now,
the authorities realize

that three people close to him
have disappeared

and are presumed dead.

Terry Kimball,
Jennifer Marcum
and Kaysi McLeod.

So, the FBI begins
to investigate.

I go up
to interview Scott
in the jail.

The first time
I interviewed him
was June of 2007.

The day
that Kaysi disappeared,

what were you doing,
and where were you?

I can't tell you for sure
the day

that Kaysi disappeared,
because I wasn't there.

But the only thing I know
is what I've been told.

I was told Kaysi disappeared
the day--
On a day that I had left.

She went to work.
That's what I was told.

She went to work at Subway.

A day that I went up
to the mountains,

and I went to do
some elk scouting,

do some scouting.

Do you remember
where you went?

Yeah, I went up
to the border pass.

I mean, he had an answer
for everything.

For every question.

So, I spent six months
researching Scott,

talking with his mom,
his wives,

his child, Justin, you know,

other inmates
like Jennifer's boyfriend,
Steve Ennis.

He said, "Oh, yeah,
another inmate
lost his girlfriend to Scott."

I was like, "What?"

He said, "Yeah, another guy
named Steve."

And Steve Holley
was the boyfriend
of LeAnn Emry.

We knew about Jennifer,
Kaysi and Uncle Terry,

but LeAnn
had never been mentioned.

Investigators have
circumstantial evidence

linking Scott
to the missing persons cases.

But then his wife Lori

gives them
something more concrete.

She had kept two bags of trash
from Scott's closet.

On the day Kaysi went missing.

Because she knew
Scott had turned his phone off

and maybe there was something
in the trash.

But she was waiting
for somebody,

law enforcement,
to ask for them one day.

So, she brings them out,
we dump them on her table.

And I found a couple receipts
for Walden, Colorado,

the day she had disappeared.

I'm like,
that's National Forest Land.

So, I called
the National Forest Service
for Walden, Colorado.

I asked, have you guys
recovered anyone up there,

because I'm looking
for a girl.

She goes, "Yes, we did."

The FBI came to get my DNA.

I said, I can do one better.

I have Kaysi's DNA,
I have all of her baby teeth.

I go up there
to the sheriff's office.

They say they hadn't
tested her for DNA.

I grab the skeletal remains.

Ship them to our lab.

It was Kaysi.

Jonny said that
Kaysi's been found.

And it was--

It was numbing.

I, at that point,
all hope is just gone.

I remember crying.

And just being so relieved,

but also so saddened
in that same moment.

It was just--

It was devastating.

We believe
he took Kaysi up there.

Just killed her and left her
up there
on the side of a mountain.

Up to the point where Kaysi's
remains had been found,

there were no bodies.

So, the discovery
of Kaysi McLeod's remains

really started to spell
the end

for Scott Kimball

and his tangled web of lies

and deceits that he had
woven up to this point.

Everything started
to change.

And we gained the momentum
in our prosecution

to hold him accountable.

Prosecutors offer
Kimball a deal.

If he confesses
and leads investigators
to his victims' remains,

they will take
the death penalty
off the table.

He's smart enough.

He's been around
the criminal justice system
all his life.

He knew that
that was a big deal for us.

So, he pleads guilty
straight up to the thefts

against Dr. Armstrong
and the habitual criminal.

And the judge immediately
sentences him to 48 years.

And that's when we say,
okay, that was his good faith

to tell us that he's actually
gonna legitimately
lead us to those bodies.

We went back
into the judge's chambers.

And there was a big group
of us.

Scott Kimball's
supposed to tell us

where are these bodies.

But the way he sat there,

just soaking in the limelight

of look at me and all of you
around this table,

I'm the star,
and you're just, like,
hanging on my every word

to get this information
that you've been
so desperately seeking.

It was quite disgusting.

And I said, "We just made
a deal with the devil."

In February 2009,

three years
after he was arrested
in California,

law enforcement officials
take Scott Lee Kimball

deep into the Utah wilderness.

That's where he says
he buried the bodies

of Jennifer Marcum,

LeAnn Emry and Terry Kimball.

You could see his glee...

in this production
all around him.

And how he had control.

And he jerked us around
for multiple trips.

And he loved
every minute of it.

We're going back and forth
between LeAnn and Jennifer.

And each one you go in,
you explore.

And then he'd say, "No,
we're in the wrong place."

I recall him tapping his foot
at a particular spot.

And he said,
"Merry Christmas. Dig here."

And we all dug
and we dug and we dug.

I was out there digging
with those agents
and everybody else.

And we did not find Jennifer.

March 11th of 2009.

I remember it very well.

We pull up
on a horseshoe canyon.

Scott says,
we're gonna find LeAnn

wrapped in a rug
on a rock shelf.

And he says,
"If there's a waterfall here,

she's gonna be close to that."

We go to the end
of the creek bed.

There's a wall of rocks
that's about eight feet tall.

And he goes, "Okay,
let's head the other way."

And so, he starts
just walking back down
the river.

I couldn't tell you exactly
why I did what I did.

But, uh, I start walking up
the side of the cliff.

And I just walk
as straight as I can.

And that's when I find
LeAnn's hair clip.

I could see her blonde
and brown hair in the clip.

And I could see
part of a bone.

And then it was underneath
a rock slide.

So, they unearthed LeAnn.

They pulled back the big rock
that had been hiding
the rest of her.

And they scoop on down.

Her cranium was missing.

And where the cranium
should have been
was a spent bullet.

He said, uh, that's not her.
Let's keep moving.

He wanted to get us
as close as he could.

And then just walk us
right back away.

It was clear
by how we recovered her.

He had had her kneel,
shot her in the back
of the head.

And we actually found
part of the bullet casing.

Despite finding
LeAnn's remains,

investigators realized
that Scott,

the master manipulator,

is leading them
around the woods

for his own amusement.

They tell him
if the next search
doesn't turn up something,

their deal is off,
and the death penalty
will be back on the table.

He drew the most detailed map.

Like, it's crazy.

About five
or seven miles

off the interstate
down a dirt road,

you have to climb this hill.

And he drew a little X marks,
the spot.

And then
they found this remains
in a tarp.

And we knew Uncle Terry
had been wrapped in a tarp.

We took him
to an anthropologist,

and she pieced together
his skull.

It was
in four different pieces,

and there was just
a perfect hole

right in the back
of the skull.

And then we went to the house
where Lori had the couch.

And we'd peel back
the carpet layer,

and sure enough,
the carpet pad

and even the subfloor
was just soaked with blood.

We tested the blood.
It was Terry's.

So, what we pieced
together is...

Terry was just
sitting on the couch,

and Scott comes
right up behind him

and just shoots him
right in the back of the head.

The anthropologist found
the bullet still lodged
right below his left eye.

Investigators
are now convinced

that Scott murdered
Terry Kimball,

LeAnn Emry and Kaysi McLeod.

But there's still no sign
of Jennifer Marcum.

You know,
we've run cadaver dogs
over it.

We've had
ground-penetrating radar.

We had our whole evidence team
digging up dirt.

We had a geologist.

We did everything we could
to try to find her.

Eventually, we just--
We had to walk away.

But we never
brought resolution
to Jennifer's family.

Scott Kimball comes clean
about killing his Uncle Terry.

But when it comes to the women
that Scott has killed...

no such luck.

I think it's because
his Uncle Terry

was a means to an end
for money.

But what he did
to the women...

there may have been
an element of shame.

He may have done some things

that he ultimately
didn't want to reveal.

So, if something sexual
is done to someone,

your status in prison
goes from here
to way down here.

Now, if you're
a serial killer,

it goes up to here,
because you're the man.

But so Scott's protecting that
this whole time.

In 2009,

Scott Kimball pleads guilty

to the murders of LeAnn Emry,

Jennifer Marcum,

Kaysi McLeod
and Terry Kimball.

Because Scott
did not lead us
to Jennifer Marcum's body.

The sentence that he had
originally been promised

was null and void,

and a 70-year sentence
was imposed.

He didn't have
a release date

till, like,
the year 2080 or so,

which he'd be 114 years old.

He'll probably
be there
for the rest of his life.

And that's--
That's good. That's okay.

That's exactly
where he should be.

Because he could.

Because he wanted to.

Kaysi McLeod
and Jennifer Marcum,

I always thought,
was sexually motivated
and attraction,

wanting to have them sexually
and sexually abuse them.

I absolutely believe of him

as a sexual predator,
sex offender.

With Uncle Terry,
much like with Justin,

we thought that was always
a financial motivation.

Scott's childhood winds up
being a house of cards.

Because everything he thought
was true and was real,

all disappeared, vanished,
crumbled, abandoned.

So, he became the savior,
the thief and the killer.

But there was a pragmatist
with all of his kills.

There was always a reason
why he killed.

So, it wasn't
for the thrill of the kill.

With Justin and Uncle Terry,
Scott needed money.

With Kaysi
and LeAnn and Jennifer,

it was a pragmatic decision.

He had his fun,
but then it was like,

okay, now I've got
to kill them.

Because they know too much.

I know that he said after...

the accidental shooting
in his forehead,

he said
he lost his conscience.

He wanted to be
a serial killer.

But what I think
is unique about
the Scott Kimball story

is the level of deceit

and ability to fool people.

The fact
that he was killing people

while on the FBI payroll,
I think,

is something that stuns people
to this day.

Scott Kimball
is still working for me

while committing
these murders,

and I'm the one who
brought him into the bureau,
essentially.

So, I definitely
had a sense of remorse

over what had come of that.

There's no doubt in my mind,
I think,

that he's murdered
other people.

After sentencing,
I talked to Scott.

He goes,
"If you don't Mirandize me,

then I'll tell you
who all I killed."

And he tells us
about 21 people

that he killed
from 1985 to 2005.

He wouldn't give us
their names,

but he would say
male or female.

And he would say,
I killed them
by stabbing them.

I killed them
by a bow and arrow.

I killed them by strangling.
I killed them by gun.

And it was just
detailed stuff.

And 21 different people

over a 20-year period,
basically.

That's hard to say.

Scott Kimball's appetite
for murder,

combined with his charm,

made him one of the most evil

and dangerous serial killers
of all time.

Scott lied so often
and so easily

that no one will ever know
exactly how many people
he killed.

He's now locked away forever
in a Supermax facility
in Colorado,

where he spends 23 hours a day
in solitary confinement.

It's the only way
they can keep

this real-life Hannibal
from killing again.
