The Musicians of Bremen
once upon a time there was a farmer who had a donkey the donkey worked very hard every day
slowly he grew old and could no longer work as hard as before the farmer wanted to sell him hearing the news the donkey was very sad I have to go I don't want to be sold
I have a good voice
and I'm going to the famous town of Bremen maybe I'll become a musician said the donkey so he set out down the road
before he had gone far the donkey met a dog the dog was lying in the middle of the road panting and looking tired what happened to you asked the Donkey
well my master was going to Desert me because I was old and useless so I escaped
but where can I go what can I do
set the dog sadly
come with me said the donkey I'm going to Bremen you can and I can hear together we could be a band the dog agreed to the donkeys suggestion and they set off happily together after a while they met a cat who looked very sad what happened to you ask the Donkey
well I'm too old to catch mice my mistress said I was useless and she didn't want me anymore so I escaped
but what should I do now said the Cat come with us said the Donkey
and we will go to Bremen together
you can meow meow the dog can wolf wolf and I can hear
together we could be a band The Cat thought this was a good idea and they set off together
it was not long before the three little animals met a rooster standing on a post he was growing sadly what happened to you you look sad ask the donkey the farmer's wife thought I was too old to be of any use and she wanted to make chicken soup out of me so I rode as loud as I could said the rooster that is too much would you like to come to Braman with us
you can the dog can and I came together we could be a band
yes I'd love to
so they set off together singing all the way
in the evening they went into a wood and planned to spend the night there
the donkey and the dog lay under the tree and the cat climbed onto the branch
the rooster flew to the top of the tree and looked around
suddenly he found a house with lights on in the distance
guys there's a house not far ahead let's go and have a look maybe we can find something to eat said the rooster they went to the lighted house through the window they could see the bright lights in side
the donkey went to the window and peeped in what do you see asked to the rooster I see a table full of delicious food and by the table stood five terrible Roberts
cried the Donkey
I really want to go in and have a big meal but there are robbers inside what should we do
said the other three
all right everyone get on my back said the donkey again so the dog wrote on the donkey the cat on the dog and the rooster on the cat the big Shadows of the four little animals appeared on the window then they began to sing he
frightened by the terrible looking Shadow and the loud noises the robbers pulled up their legs and ran out of the house
the four friends smirked and then buried themselves in the delicious food on the table they ate up everything in the house and then plopped down contentedly getting ready for bed
at midnight one of the runaway robbers crept back into the house it was really dark in there the robber accidentally stepped on the cat and the cat scratched him he also tripped over the dog and the dog bit him then he bumped into the donkey and the donkey kicked him finally the rooster flew up onto his head and screamed loudly
the robber was so scared that he ran back to his fellows and told them a wicked devil scratched me a horrible man pit me a monster kicked me and a demon screamed in my ears
after hearing this the robbers never dared to come back
the four friends were very happy with the house they sang songs there every day and lived happily ever after
