I'd like to introduce you to the guiding
force behind the Dallas Cowboys.

Jerry Jones.

The thing to understand about Jerry
Jones is that when he has a vision, he

all in to achieve it.

He's willing to take that risk.

But I know this, like the whole
business, football's a booming business.

If you're winning, everybody's thrilled
with you.

If you're not, there's a lot of
grouchers out there.

The 90s dynasty, it ended. It's over.

That gusher luck deserted him.

Over the last 30 years, the sky had
fallen.

The hole in the roof had closed because
God didn't want to watch anymore, right?

There are kids in college now who have
grown up never knowing how good the

Cowboys used to be, and the reason
they're not, I blame one man, Jerry

Hutchinson is down again. The ball is
loose, and there's a scramble. The main

job of an owner is to hire good people
to do their job.

Who the hell has he hired?

Hutchinson, nobody wants.

This is a team that is in desperate need
of direction.

Touchdown, Redskins.

But he wants to win.

He brought in Bill Parcells.

That's the right guy.

Bill Parcells. I am not going to grow
careless with this relationship.

Could Parcells quickly get this team
into Super Bowl contention? The answer

yes, yes, and yes.

Romo Hull, 19 -yard field goal attack.

Oh, and it's stumbled by Romo.

Bill's been thinking about this for a
while, and mentally he just, I think,

like he didn't have the energy.

And fans blame Jones for chasing away
strong coaches with his insistence on

running the team himself.

A new decade has come and gone, and the
Cowboys have failed to return to a

conference championship game.

And despite the fact they're losing.

He needed to build the new stadium.

In the midst of a global economic
recession, Jerry Jones is going all in.

He's breaking ground on what will become
the most expensive sports venue in

American history.

Jerry Jones is in the football business,
but he's also in the entertainment

business. I've never been that big
before in my life. He builds AT &T

billion -something -dollar stadium out
there in Arlington.

This guy is a big thinker.

George ranks the Cowboys just ahead of

Tens of thousands of fans at concerts at
AT &T Stadium. They've got all kinds of

stuff going on out there.

They're the only NFL team worth more
than $3 billion.

They have not won a championship since
1996.

Go Cowboys, baby. We're going to do it
this year.

Tony Romo, a chance to get his team to
their first NFC championship game.

Super Bowl fever gripping the city of
Dallas. Roll down in two.

Here's one down the sideline. Pass

Those teams were good enough to win the
Super Bowl. They just need that one

play, that one quarter.

That gets you over the hump and the
pressure just mounts. The Dallas Cowboys

drought can now order itself a drink.

More than 25 ,000 signed a petition to
have Jones removed as owner. You know

solution. Fire yourself as GM.

You want to blame Jerry for those
things? It's hard for me to.

Ever think that? He's the most
innovative, controversial, and bombastic

they're number one.

The Cowboys opened their state -of -the

and it's already turning heads.

Jerry keeps undermining his own team.
Jerry's just got his little fingers and

everything. I mean, this could be the
year, man. I would have voted Jerry out

number of years ago.

I've gone from giving Jerry so much
credit for three Super Bowl

four years.

to feeling like i'm stuck with jerry
jones it feels like jerry the owner has

been great jerry the gm has been
terrible you need to hand it off to

often asked the question why don't i
hire a general manager

I've had people that said, Jerry, you
subject yourself to so much criticism.

You need a buffer.

I don't like it like that.

I like pain.

There were men before you that bust
their ass, made

sacrifices, and made the Cowboys what
they are.

All you do is carry the ball for these
years.

And your job, while you're carrying the
ball, is to match what has come before

you.

Those men sacrifice and they put a
championship on the tape.

Put your damn championship on the tape.

Jerry said it best in the press
conference. He goes, I'm tired of

season. He goes, I want to win at the
end of the season in the playoffs.

And I don't have the balls to put it all
out there the way y 'all did on that

quarterback. I won't do that.

Let's go up here where we can see
better.

I will say this. We've had a lot of
success, just

not the success that our fans want and
we want, which is the ultimate

championship. We've won a lot of
football games, had a lot of playoff

appearances, you know, since we've had
the team and wins. But, you know, just

it's empty when you don't win that
championship.

I will tell you this, I would be
embarrassed if I wrote something down

it was a financial number.

I'd be embarrassed to show you what it
would be if I could pay that to get a

Super Bowl.

There goes the inheritance to the kids.

The problem is that the public believes
Jimmy built the team that won three

Super Bowls.

In his mind, Jerry needs to win one.

On his own.

This is the highest expectations the
Cowboys have had in probably three

This is the team that could contend for
a championship.

All kinds of time for Dak. One at the
end zone.

Is this the best team they've had since
the 90s? I think so.

Things feel like they're clutching. This
one to the touchdown!

Things just feel right.

America's team is better than it's ever
been.

Nine straight wins at home.

Right now it's as good as it's been
since Jimmy Johnson was here. And now

it out for Lamb.

He's got it!

They are riding a 16 -game home winning
streak. They have not lost a game there

in a very, very, very long time.

Nada, nada, nada.

Just feeling good today.

And we do want to seize the moment
because it has been.

how and why we didn't do what we wanted

self -esteem.

I can't walk down these steps or up them
without glancing over at this picture

and remembering our second Super Bowl.

That morning, I was going out to our
walk -through, and Gene said, well, I'll

kind of rest up here. I said, well,
fine.

I said, I think Kevin Costner is going
to be out there watching the walk

-through. Well, she popped up like
Dracula does after sleeping for 100

went straight up and said, I think I'm
going to practice.

That look Gene had for Kevin Costner is
one I had never seen in my life before

or since.

Life's tough.

Anytime I get to thinking that I'm a
little too full of myself, I'll step

there and get that sobering, life's
tough.

His grandchildren have never been to a
Super Bowl.

They've been to so many games where the
fans would boo you.

He's like, I want them to experience the
positive.

Over all these years, we've had a bump
or two along the road.

You know, but I don't know of anyone in
life that doesn't.

You know, you just have a way of moving
forward.

But he just hasn't been able to because
there was something that he couldn't

live with.

Uh.

After I left the Cowboys for about 28 or
29 years, my relationship with Jerry

was horrible.

Johnson replacing Don Shula at Miami,
the coveted dual role of head coach and

general manager of the Dolphins. What
happened in Dallas, that was a strained

relationship.

Jimmy and Jerry, it was kind of a Lennon
-McCartney thing they had in a weird

way because as solo acts, they weren't
ever quite that great.

Jimmy tried to go coach the Dolphins.
That didn't really work.

It's Dallas at Miami, the Battle of
Jays. Looking for the champ by Jim, and

it's a man's own. Terry Jones enjoying
the score.

Winners get to brag, and losers have to
take it. No one person can just

absolutely create magic.

Enormous questions surrounding Jimmy
Johnson. Jimmy's got a little soul

-searching to do.

You go on, you got your media career.

Yeah, last week I had a long and
emotional talk with Jerry Jones.

Yeah, we saw each other once or twice,
and when we saw each other, we were

hugging and we were laughing and
cutting.

Everything was great, but as soon as we
separated... Someone would make the

comment, you know, Jimmy would say,
well, you know, I made that Herschel

trade. When I told Jerry that we were
going to trade Herschel Walker, he was

kind of astonished. He said, really?

You can't get rid of Herschel Walker.

Jerry will hear it and say, that's the
problem.

And there were some times it pissed me
off about that.

He started taking shots at me.

Then I started taking shots at him.

There are lines you can't cross.

And it got crossed so many times, so
cruelly.

Will you ever forgive Jerry for saying
500 coaches who could have won the Super

Bowl with our team? Joe, that hurt so
bitterly. At some point, Jerry Jones is

going to sit back and say,

F you, man.

F you. You know, F you.

I'm not putting you in the ring of
honor.

The ring of honor criteria is not
someone that caught passes or threw them

that knew how to run the ball. That
criteria is who have been cornerstones

what the franchise represents today in
general.

Ladies and gentlemen, we're here to
honor some very special people.

When I took over as owner, it became one
of my jobs to decide who would join

this special group.

Our ring of honor stands for the men who
built this franchise and had it called

America's T. That's what it stands for.

Coach Landry.

The only coach the Cowboys had for 29
years.

You represent for sports what we all in
sports would like to be represented, and

that is a higher cause that you've done
it all on a competitive basis.

We all knew that Jimmy deserved to be in
the Ring of Honor, should have been in

the Ring of Honor long ago.

How fitting is it that we get to sit
here today and announce that Michael

Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, are going in
the ring of honor for the cowboys they

have elevated what the ring of honor is
all about there's no doubting that jimmy

johnson deserved and earned the right to
be in the ring of honor

will jimmy johnson ever be in the ring
of honor while you're the

owner and if not why not well i don't
think that

I don't have plans for Jimmy to be in
the ring of honor.

After the last 30 years, Jerry's
learning now more than anything.

I ain't never had an appreciation for
what Jimmy did.

I guarantee you I got one now.

God tells you, be careful what you put
your mouth on, because he'll show you in

a way that you really don't want to see
it.

And I said, Jimmy, why do you keep
saying you made the Herschel Walker

That was a miracle that happened to us.

It was, you couldn't draw it up.

Even think about it ending up that good.

And then to have him overreach to take
credit for it? No.

No.

It's the we part.

And so that's why I always push back.

That was it. It was totally it,
principally it.

People don't like change.

But I think they realize maybe it was
time.

Well, you know, a lot of people, you
know, they've talked about their

between Jerry and myself.

More than anything else, we have respect
for one another.

I've had a tremendous respect for Jimmy
since I was 17 years old. And any time

you buy a football team, you go get your
best friend to coach you.

Look at all the wasting thoughts.

Wasted angst.

We have all been a part of the Dallas
Cowboys.

And I want to thank everybody in this
room.

Give Thanksgiving.

Because it has been a source of
inspiration.

Jerry. I don't think enough times people
appreciate you. I think it says

something about an owner that's able to
come into a club and give the commitment

to work as hard as you work and to be as
positive toward our program.

Whatever Jimmy says, I do.

In my mind, God doesn't make it to where
any of us get all the right decisions

right. He doesn't.

What he does do, though, is if you've
made a wrong one, is give you some

wherewithal to cut it short.

I think they both see, why did it take
us so long to figure this out?

But then when you step back and you look
at it, you say, oh, I see this is

exactly why it took so long for you guys
to both figure it out. But once you sit

down together, you're great.

and you air out your grievances and your
challenges, then you appreciate each

other. You respect each other again.

And you don't do the things again that
you used to do that irritated each

And you make it work. Life's too short.

It's too big!

You are the worst.

You are the worst.

That story, it was between us. I know
it. I know it.

We should have communicated better.

We should have had more understanding of
the other person's feelings.

The number one thing that you brought to
the table for me personally,

not in any way lack of appreciation for
your intelligence and your

skills.

You were so inspirational to me.

I look back, I should have hung my hat
on the fact that I knew that Jimmy

Johnson wasn't perfect.

He knew that I was one of the most
imperfect people that had ever been

And then when we are on top of the world
and just won the Gold Cup,

I'm liable to break the damn thing.

It wasn't just Jerry.

We both screwed it up.

And I don't know if we hadn't have
screwed it up.

if it would have survived longer?

I'm often asked, what would it have
looked like had Jimmy have stayed?

And I don't know the answer to that.
Nobody does.

They always say, how many more Super
Bowls would you have won?

Maybe we wouldn't have won any more
Super Bowls. But I do believe this,

We would have been in contention each
and every year.

All I know is we wanted the amount of
Super Bowls that God wanted us to have.

it was intended for us to win it, we
would have won it.

I really believe we won five Super Bowls
in a row easily.

I really believe that.

It brought closure to something that
really there was never in my mind as big

rift as...

most people thought they were.

He was so happy that night.

And, you know, everybody saw it.

And then I go out on the field and
Charles and Michael and Troy and Emmett

and, you know, it was a special moment.

For now and evermore.

with Tom Landry, going to be here with

some of the greatest names in the
history, rightfully so. Welcome to the

Honor.

And in a short time, we won Super Bowls
and became the team of the 90s.

His speech that he gave, that was

for those five years that allowed us to
do what we did.

And I want to thank the Dallas Cowboy
fans, the millions of Cowboy fans.

And the millions that despise the Cowboy
fans.

I can't help but be thankful for the
time that I've owned the Dallas Cowboys.

It is impossible for me to think about

aspect of it. See, I used to believe

more it was the charisma, and then now
I'm more convinced that it is the...

X's and O's in the technical.

I know Steven has a big hand in the
future of the Cowboys, and I'm a big

fan.

What's the succession plan for the
Dallas Cowboys?

My answer is I want to enjoy every
moment that my dad's.

I want to enjoy every moment.

The rest will take care of itself.

Do I really want a Super Bowl to happen
with Dad soon?

Of course I do.

But... We'd say, we'll get him next
time, but we're running out of, we'll

him next time.

These kids, they're on the same page as
he is.

We all want the same thing.

Jerry Jones is a risk taker.

He wanted to be owner of the Dallas
Cowboys. He knew the economic

and he is still willing to take that
risk and has paid off mightily.

As someone who owned a team, I was
always thinking how we could go to the

level. How do we make it better?

If you talk about Jerry Jones's
footprint on the National Football

there's not many that are bigger than
his, if any.

He came in and disrupted the way the NFL
did business.

There's no question he's a leader, and
he'd be remembered as one of the great

builders of the NFL.

The NFL has signed a $110 billion
meteorites deal. What Jerry's done

is create this soap opera that never
gets canceled.

And he's taught the other owners how
important football is to this society.

It's now part of the culture.

I think Jerry helped to make the NFL
what it is today.

The Dallas Cowboys are now the most
valuable sports team in the world. And

average NFL team worth a record $6 .5
billion.

And that's directly attributed to Jerry
Jones.

Jerry says the Cowboys are all in. The
last two weeks, the Cowboys have

committed $376 million to Zach Prescott
and TV Lab.

I hope it gets the job done.

Stevens making a major push here. Now
the Cowboys head coach is out.

If you don't think I can operate out of
my comfort zone, you're so wrong.

It's unbelievable.

The legacy of the 90s will never be
tarnished because of what the

Dallas Cowboys accomplished.

Ain't that what they're chasing right

They're not chasing the Philadelphia
Eagles or whoever's the best team in the

East.

That's not what they're chasing right
now.

They're chasing the former Cowboys.

That's who they're chasing.

And that's the beautiful thing.

Football organizations never win
championships.

Only football families win
championships.

That's what we had.

That was different.

We were a football family.

There's always that bond that you never
lose.

Because I know what these guys gave up
for us to win.

And I would not be sitting right here
without those votes.

And the belief that we had in each other
is something that was unbreakable.

These guys thrown away to continue to
love me and keep picking me up.

We did it! We did it!

It was magical.

We only did a few things.

You knew what we were doing.

You couldn't stop it.

There was no way you couldn't stop it.

The reflecting of what it has done for
me that I haven't done in a long time

is see how many times that but for
almost the wind,

the whole thing would have changed.

You know, now that I think about it, I
don't know what this has proven.

As a matter of fact, when I start trying
to add up the pluses and the takeaways

and what have you, maybe all that's
exposed is a flawed jury.

But what I can say with absolute
certainty, this has

been one hell of a fucking ride.

But there ain't no use in kidding
myself.

I like the way I am.

I'm a natural, actual, real, authentical
