I woke up, and it was a perfect day,
which the Rose Bowl always seems to get.

Vibrant colors, and you've got the
mountains in the background, and it was

majestic day.

And I remember going to the stadium and
really monitoring my emotions, and I

felt totally at peace.

I'll never forget walking in there.

It was almost surreal.

I thought, this is like a movie.

And it's going to be watched by 150
million people.

Most people don't understand how
difficult it is to get to the Super

and foremost.

But it doesn't mean a thing if you don't
win.

I was shocked because normally

I would have butterflies, but I was
really thrilled that I was so calm.

I thought this was going to be a regular
game, but it wasn't. It wasn't a

regular game, man.

It wasn't until they did player
introductions, and when they introduced

ran out onto the Rose Bowl turf, it felt
like I got hit in the face with a bat.

Oh, man.

That crowd went... The Cowboys...

Just the raw energy and emotion of that
scene was

unlike anything I had ever experienced
before.

This is what every kid dreams of in his
front yard.

No matter how many times people tell you
what they say, what to be ready for,

they can't prepare you. You just got to
experience it.

And Super Bowl XXVII is now underway.

Buffalo, New York is blue collar.

You got a lot of people just working the
steel mill, very hard work.

And if you got an opportunity to get out
of the house, go to a football game,

you're going to make the most of it.

Our quarterback, Jim Kelly, represented
that blue collar attitude.

He's like a mythical creature.

He is a quarterback with a linebacker's
mentality.

Put it this way, back when I played,
they expected us to win. Everybody knew

they had to probably go through us to
achieve the ultimate, and that's the

Bowl.

I dreamt about it as a little kid,
leading my team down the field to win

The Super Bowl will ride on the right
foot of Norwood.

No good.

Wide right. It was a heartbreaking way
to lose it for the Bills.

But you learn from your defeats.

And then you must move on.

I lose, I want to get back out there.

And the Bills are going back to the
Super Bowl for the second year in a row.

Kelly is back to throw. Short drop.
Quick pass. Inbound.

And it is dropped.

And once again, the Buffalo Bills go
home empty -handed.

Even after two losses, I'm pulling to go
right back.

And it is incomplete at the 35 -yard
line. Every game starts out pretty fast.

And they've got Evan Smith. He's slick.

Everything's moving at warp speed.

But then, at some point, the game slows
down and becomes just another game.

I really like blitzing.

I didn't even make it through two
quarters until I blew

my knee out.

the 80s. They're back on top now, and

When I think of Super Bowl 27,

I see a bunch of guys that were on that
team in 1989 that went 1 -15.

And just knowing how bad things were
four years earlier.

To be at the top of the mountain was the
greatest feeling that I've ever had in

sports.

The swarm of media people in the middle
of the field congratulating the Cowboys

and Troy Aikman, the MVP.

In the locker room of the victorious
Dallas Cowboys, their first in the post

-Tom Landry era, the first in the era of
coach Jimmy Johnson and owner Jerry

Jones. There were so many moves and
turning points. Would you pinpoint one

the most important point in the history
of this franchise under your direction?

Yes, it's pretty easy. The very first
one when I hired Jimmy Johnson to be the

coach.

The last time the city came out for a
parade was when I let Tom Landry go.

And now they were here for me, the team,
my family, for us.

It was the most impactful, joyful time
of my life.

And yeah, I won't hang on to it a lot
longer.

The great feelings come from adversity.

Being the very best at something after
being the very worst, it's the best in

the world.

To go from crying after losing 13 games,
crying after

losing 15 games, to that Super Bowl,
that's the

greatest feeling I've ever had in my
life. Why not?

It was day one of training camp for the
Dallas Cowboys and the stars were out.

Troy Aikman was greeted by fans, Michael
Irvin signed into camp. Even

Commissioner Tagliabue showed face
alongside Jerry Jones.

But one big name was missing from the
lineup. There was no star running back,

Emmitt Smith.

A contract dispute with Jerry Jones is
why it's been four weeks of no Emmitt

Smith. However, the star running back is
staying in game shape working out in

his hometown today.

We're here in Pensacola. Jerry Jones is
in Dallas. Anything you want to say to

him? Jerry, let's get together. Let's
work this thing out. I'm willing to

cooperate with you if you're willing to
cooperate with me. That's the only thing

I can say.

Here's my point of view.

I am a proven commodity now.

1990, rookie of the year, 91 and 92,
lead the league in Russia.

And I did all that on a rookie deal.

But now I deserve to be paid as the top
running back in the National Volley.

Smith wants four years, $17 million.

Cowboys are offering four years, $9 .1
million. So that's an $8 million gap

seems likely to keep Smith at home.

Contract negotiations are full of
ambiguity.

I feel completely disrespected.

But I have a very high tolerance for
ambiguity because I can go longer than

and not have the answer.

Emmitt was insulted, and that we were
insulting him, and, you know, it just,

know, the tension started to build.

Reports out of Valley Ranch suggest that
the talks between the star running back

and team owner are stalling. He wanted
quarterback money, and I just didn't

the money to pay that because we hadn't
turned the corner financially during

those times.

The back and forth has now spilled into
the public, with both sides making their

positions clear. There's no question
about the contribution that Emmitt Smith

has made to the success of this team.

But he doesn't stand alone.

I don't see it resolving anytime soon. I
really don't. He's going to get paid

millions of dollars, but maybe not as
many million as he would like to have.

Come on now.

What are we talking about? You're
getting Jersey sales out the yang with

For Emmitt Smith, it was day 47 in his
continuing holdout. Craig, any sign yet

of Emmitt? No, no sign of Emmitt.
Where's Emmitt? Emmitt Smith is still

out, and Jerry Jones still refuses to
pay him.

With the season opener against the
Washington Redskins just weeks away,

anticipation is building, and so is the
pressure to get Emmitt Smith back in a

Cowboys uniform.

The Cowboys are still without Emmitt
Smith.

Patience is starting to wear thin among
coaches and players.

Emmitt Smith is a distraction right now.

You guys, y 'all make it harder than
everybody because every question you ask

is, what about Emmitt, what about him? I
think we're all a little bit tired of

talking about the Emmitt situation, and
that's not to say that I don't want him

in here because I want him in here as
much as anybody. But if he's not here,

then I don't want to talk about it. We
had our final offer, and finally Jerry

gets on the phone and tells Emmitt, your
team needs you back, we need you back,

but this is all we're going to do.

So I remember calling Stephen.

I said, I've just gotten off the phone
with him and his agent. And I said, it's

not going to happen. I mean, it was one
of the tougher negotiations we've ever

had.

his stock may be rising.

Jerry Jones would have to swallow a lot
of pride at this point to allow the 0 -2

start to affect his bargaining position

the problem? I didn't understand the

problem. You know, I was mad, and then
next thing I know, my anger turned into

rage, and when that happened, I threw
the helmet.

And this helmet sticks in the sheetrock
right beside where I'm standing as he

comes in the room.

And I'll never forget saying, Charles,
let's please don't do something that

of us can't get over here.

The helmet almost hit Jerry, so I almost
got cut.

But Jerry signed Emmett the next week.

A big night down in Big D, at least for
a couple of Big Ds, that is. Down in

Dallas, the longest -running soap opera
in the NFL finally over, or perhaps just

beginning, depending on how you look at
it.

The contract reportedly worth $13 .6
million, making Emmitt what he wanted to

be, the highest paid runner in the game.

Earlier tonight, appearing with Jerry,
the Jerry and Emmitt show played to a

packed house in rave reviews.

I'm glad you're getting this, Emmitt.
Are you happy?

Very much. I am too.

The Cowboys lost leverage when we went 0
-2.

Me being away hurt the team.

So that became my leverage.

And I think my value speaks for itself.

Once he joined the team, I think
everybody felt like, okay, now the year

You know, now we can get going.

Emmitt Smith gave up his 63 -day
holdout.

This crowd realizing now the number 22
has entered the football game.

We put Emmett in there, and Emmett makes

Once we got Emmitt back on the field, we
certainly started winning games.

Dallas is once again a force to be
reckoned with.

But beyond that, the power and the
image.

Of the Dallas Cowboys was everywhere.

Blue, stars, everywhere.

Well, the Dallas Cowboys are America's
team once again.

And they aren't just winning games,
they're building superstars.

The Cowboys, once again, had the eyes
and the interest of media all over the

country. The Dallas Cowboys are quickly
becoming some of the most talked about

names in pro football.

You can turn on the TV and see them on

my list of things that I wanted to

I just kind of took all of it with a
grain of salt.

So I had all the baddest girls in the
world at the time, all the country music

girls. I was like, man, come on, man.
Now, women must just go fatty.

I thoroughly understood that all of
those things of making something.

More entertaining and bigger than life.

And he said, now just go ahead and just

I'm like, okay.

Every time I got hit, I could hear that.

All in my chest.

And I started reciting what my cousins
used to say to us when we were kids.

If you can't play with pain, you can't
play the game.

And I just kept reciting.

He gets another care.

And he gets up again in pain.

He's holding his arm.

I want the ball every time.

They tie up, and we're going to
overtime.

Didn't even think about coming out the
game.

They only have one arm, but they're
still going to it.

I come off the field. I can barely move
my shoulder.

My head is down.

And all of a sudden... Here we go.

Cowboys win!

What a great game.

How could a regular season end any
better than this?

And that is a defining Cowboys win.

Cowboys win the division.

Cowboys win the NFC.

And they've got home field advantage all
the way to the Super Bowl.

And Emmitt Smith, even in spite of
missing those first two games of the

just won his third straight rushing
title.

What an accomplishment.

All right, Gary, thanks very much. Right
now we want to take you live to

Chicago. There is NFL expansion news.

ESPN's Andrea Kramer is standing by the
Windy City, and she has it for us.

Andrea. Yes, thank you very much. And
the NFL will be expanding for the first

time since 1976.

An announcement due in about five or ten
minutes.

It's my pleasure to announce that the
membership has selected Jacksonville as

the 30th NFL club.

Jacksonville had a new franchise, and
they needed a new coach.

So they called me.

Is Jimmy Johnson going to stay with the
Cowboys? Yes, he's under contract for

the next five years.

But that doesn't seem to mean much to
the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jags are obviously very interested
in Jimmy, but is Jimmy interested in

them? The reality of it is that, hey, of
course guys are intrigued.

And of course I'm intrigued.

I've always tried to do things that were
fun, that I enjoyed.

But after the first Super Bowl, things
changed.

All of a sudden, Everybody in the
organization saying, I need a raise or I

more accolades.

And then Jerry and I, you know, we
started, you know, hollering about who

credit for what.

Then we started going different ways.

The controversial book, The Boys, is hot
reading in Big D.

Bayless says that on two or three
occasions last season, Johnson came

quitting. Jimmy just can't stand the
fact, he's haunted by the fact, that

would get any of the credit at all for
the football dynasty that is potentially

being built here.

It became clear and clear to me that
Jimmy had next to no respect for

Jerry's football acumen.

And yet Jerry would not back off from
day one. No, I am the president and

general manager of these Dallas Cowboys.

And this drove Jimmy over the edge
crazy.

When we first went to the Cowboys, he
was a businessman.

You know, I was the football guy.

Just the idea of an offensive guard or a
defensive tackle, that wasn't his

expertise.

But he wants to be the guy on
everything.

Jimmy has to be the guy.

If he does something, he wants that
recognition.

That's important to him.

You could sense that there was a power
struggle.

Who was in charge here and who wasn't in
charge here?

I used to have on the front of my
desk...

If you're willing to give others the
credit, you'll conquer the world.

That was on the front of my desk for 20
years.

If you're willing to give others the
credit, you can conquer the world.

And my understanding was, Jimmy and I,
we were in this thing together.

We, we, together.

All claims for supremacy in the NFC come
to a head today in Dallas.

After steamrolling the rest of the
conference, it's down to a rematch of

year's title game.

The San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas
Cowboys.

The winners advance to next week's Super
Bowl, while the rest bid a sudden and

final farewell to the season.

The Cowboys and the 49ers have been the
two best teams in the NFC all year. You

couldn't ask for anything more.

As we heard, Jimmy Johnson dominated the
headlines with a brash, even by his

standard, prediction of victory.

Randy Galloway and WBAP. The day before
the game, I was listening to the radio.

You know, they're talking about who's
going to win the game. I said, well, no

big deal. I told Ryan Southall this.

And you can put it in three -inch
headlines.

We will win the ball game.

We all thought, what in the hell did he
just do?

The guys are, oh, shit.

Okay.

Let's go back them up.

I think we're going to beat their rear
end, and we're going Super Bowl.

We heard what Jimmy said.

It fired us up.

Hey, we're the San Francisco 49ers.
We're not going to back down.

We talked about this place being packed
with emotion.

Look what happened.

I don't think in all my years I've ever
seen that. I never have.

The guy that kind of started all that
for the 49ers was Jerry Wright.

Things were obviously heated to start
that game.

But the scuffle... That's my only

recollection of that NFC Championship
game to this day.

I don't remember any of it.

In the third quarter, I took a helmet to
the knee. It didn't look like much.

I've seen the replay of it.

Coming up for Aikman again.

It was more of a graze than anything
else. Been hit a lot harder.

Down he goes. Double field was there
first.

Whatever the blow was at just the right
impact,

it was unlike anything

else I've ever gone through.

And Mark Stepnoski, he was in street
clothes because he had blown out his

several weeks earlier.

And when I came off the field to the
sidelines and saw Mark, I said, hey,

are you doing? Why aren't you in
uniform?

And he was like, why aren't I in
uniform? I haven't been in uniform in

weeks, you know.

So he went and got a trainer, and he
said, you need to come check Troy. I

think he's right.

They put me in an ambulance and I was in
the hospital overnight.

My agent, Lee Steinberg, came to the
hospital with me.

I would ask him, what was the score?

How did I play?

A lot of questions over and over and
over. And he got so tired of answering

questions that he started writing them
out on a legal pad.

The next morning.

I got discharged from the hospital.

I wanted to watch the game.

So I went into the film room and I
watched the NFC Championship game that

been played the day before.

And I played well.

Aikman going right to work.

You talk about great competitors and
players and guys that have everything

going.

Troy Aikman's the guy.

What a throw by Aikman.

How did he get that ball to Harper?

Aikman could throw that thing perfectly.

Watching yourself play in a game and not
having any memory of anything that

happened. There's no hotter player in
the NFL right now than Troy Aikman.

It was crazy.

Missed touchdown.

Literally parted the Red Sea and walked
on in with the storm.

They just beat us down like we didn't
even belong out on that field with them.

Dallas Cowboys defense is manhandling.

Manhandling the 49ers.

And the Cowboys are just having fun now.

Dallas took us to town. Right now, the
Cowboys have the 49ers just where they

want it.

And now it's been two in a row?

Final story, Dallas 38, San Francisco
21.

We cannot abide this.

Like, this cannot be. There is no high
like a Sunday afternoon in a victory.

And you're going to the Super Bowl, and
it doesn't get any better than that.

Yeah, they talking about my rope chain
is a little tight.

And when I get a spell, man, I loosen it
up a little.

They're back.

Oh,

the animals were loose, and they were on
the prowl. The countdown is on. Five

days to the big bash, and Tuesday was
the annual media blitz.

I feel fine now. I'm still just a little
bit tired because I'm having a hard

time getting caught up on my sleep since
I didn't sleep the night of the 49ers

ballgame. With Jimmy and Jerry, by the
time we got to the Super Bowl, it became

apparent that there was some tension
between the two of them.

And I had sensed that most of the season
going back to the Emmett holdout.

Jimmy, can you paragraph your own
reaction to Jimmy Jones?

Oh, yeah, this has been discussed, you
know, at length for about five years

And I guess because we did not dispel
the myth, everybody thought that we were

the best of friends socially, you know,
away from the office, on and on. And our

lifestyles are completely different.

Oh,

I don't know.

Oh, who knows?

Okay? All right.

I hate to end it that way, but that's
the way things go.

You know,

some of our early problems started in
the 92 season.

He says there's going to be a camera in
the draft room.

ESPN called and said, would you guys let
us put cameras in the draft room?

I thought somebody might enjoy seeing
every aspect of this thing.

And he said, you know...

When you're making a trade or when
you're doing something, you'll reach

talk to me so we can go over it because
the camera's going to be on us.

Now, that just didn't happen.

There was no acting in the draft room
before any trade.

I discussed it with everybody in the
room. And so I was involved in every

decision that was made.

It just kind of hit me wrong.

I wasn't in this thing for show.

During that 93 season, when I found out
Jimmy was flirting with Jacksonville,

not only did that violate league rules
and constitute tampering, but I also

thought that Jimmy was not loyal, and I
couldn't handle the disloyalty.

I had taken my own risk having the
Cowboys be Jimmy's first opportunity in

NFL, and that didn't sit right with me.

And then we've always had a big
disagreement with the Herschel Walker

The Herschel Walker trade. It's going to
go down in history as probably the most

single most successful trade at this
point the Cowboys have ever made.

So whose idea was it to trade with the
Walker?

Well, victory has a thousand fathers.

Defeat is an orphan.

And at times you have selective amnesia.

We've always had a little debate as to
just exactly who and where the idea

of trading Herschel Walker was.

It's my recollection that I was out with
the coaches on our morning jog, and

I told the guys, I said, listen, what
about trading Herschel Walker?

I'll never forget when I was closing the
purchase of the Dallas Cowboys.

I had some business with Tex Ram. He was
general manager.

And one of the first things out of his
mouth, he said, we really have one great

player. You might consider trading him.

What the confusing thing was in this
case, the owner is the GM.

So the issue became with people about
who could call the shots.

The contract spells it out.

When I went to the Cowboys, we put in my
contract that I would be in charge of

drafting, trading players, and I'd have
total responsibility for that. And

nothing could be done without my prior
approval.

None of Jimmy's agreements ever gave him
any authority to draft anybody.

He had no authority in the draft.

I hate it when he misinterprets.

The facts.

I have never, on any circumstances,
confused who had the right

to make the call.

Ultimately, I made those decisions.

The JJ boys, Jimmy and Jerry, have been
a bit of a sideshow here in Atlanta this

week. Probably the two most sought
-after and quotable personalities here

days leading up to the Super Bowl. Our
Bob Costas was able to sit down with

of them together.

Is the problem more one of ego, stepping
into each other's spotlight, or is it a

problem with a flawed working
relationship?

Jerry, you told Frank DeFord, I'll tell
you what, I could coach this team. I

could coach the blank out of this team.

Jimmy, do you respect his football
knowledge?

Yeah, I respect Jerry's football
knowledge as an owner and as somebody

loves the game. But you don't respect
him as an equal.

then I'm inferring to you in terms of
football knowledge and judgment.

You know, I know, because I have spent
30 years, you know,

learning what I know right now.

Hey, I feel good when I'm around Jimmy.
One of the reasons I feel good is

because I've got a lot of confidence in
him. If Jimmy, in any way, personality

-wise, was so offensive to me that I
couldn't live with it... then we'd make

changes. And occasionally I do get
offensive.

If I didn't know better, I would think
one of those guys is lying.

But since I know better, I know both of
them are lying.

Welcome to Super Bowl XXVIII.

There we were

in Atlanta.

For the Super Bowl.

Second year in a row.

And much to the country's dismay.

We have to pay the bills.

Again.

It's not the Super Bowl pairing America
apparently hoped for, but the Buffalo

Bills and the Dallas Cowboys are headed
for a rematch. After we lost three, just

lost one to the Cowboys, that whole
offseason negativity was really strong.

In Buffalo, the people and their team
are intertwined. It's a symbiotic

relationship marked by failure and hell
-bent on redemption.

In Buffalo, they were calling it the
world against the bill. I don't think

anybody wanted this back to another
Super Bowl. There has to be a way to

them from going back. Even if they win
the AFC, I think it would be for the

of pro football. But I tell you what
we're going to do. We're going to piss

everybody off. Let's go back to 4 -4.

When it comes to the bills, one question
might be steady. You guys going 0 -4?

No, when you're a loser in the Super
Bowl, you're a loser. And until you win,

you're a loser. And when you are a three
-time loser, the Buffalo Bills will

need a decompression chamber before this
game.

Everyone not wanting you to succeed does
create a us -against -them mentality,

and I actually think that type of
mentality spurs the team on to be

we're pissed off, man.

No doubt about it. Pissed off to the
highest of positivity.

You think we just came in as a lose?

No. Okay, so ask me that damn question.
That's stupid.

That's stupid.

Well, the Buffalo Bills today is a
chance to escape the demons of past

Bowl failures. It is possible that the
Bills could win this matchup. Remember,

it did happen once before this season.
If you think this will just be a repeat

of last year's matchup, don't forget
that the Bills have something extra this

year.

A thirst for revenge.

Only Buffalo is going to win it. Dallas
is going down.

We got off to a good start to open the
game. But

it was

obvious after about four or five plays.

Something was off.

It's true we called the plays, but
glassy eyes.

And one was curious as to how Aikman
would take that first solid hit after

concussion a week ago.

Now, he had been in the hospital just
one week before.

One week is asking a lot.

That time in the league, people were
just starting to pay attention to the

-term ramifications of concussions.

Nobody ever suggested that maybe I
shouldn't play.

Clearly, I just could not get things
going.

Incomplete!

This hasn't been a smooth start for the
Dallas Cowboys. They've struggled a

great deal.

This is Johnson. Looks very concerned.

Troy was not sharp.

Troy

Aikman

doesn't make many bad choices. That's
one of the worst he's made.

In the two Super Bowls he's played, it
is one.

But Buffalo, with Jim Kelly and Thurman
Thomas, they were coming on strong.

Thomas breaks over.

45 and ever. It gets him out of bounds.

I was confident going in as I ever was.
Jim Kelly off to a great start. 13 for

16.

127 yards.

We want to win it for the South. We want
to win it for the family. We want to

win it for the city.

We're going to win. Kelly is the key. He
is in total control of this offense.

It's Thomas. Thomas takes that.

Buffalo got the upper hand on us. They
really did.

We couldn't believe it.

A mild surprise at the intermission.
Bills leading the defending champion,

Dallas Cowboys, 13 -6.

Come out here, we got to come out here.

The Cowboys have only been behind at
halftime twice this year, and they lost

both of those games. One of those was
against the Buffalo Bills. I'm spotting

trend here.

Everybody in this world from the day
they are born to the day they die, they

want to be the best at something.

They want to be the best doctor. They
want to be the best lawyer.

They want to be the best football coach.

They want to be the best quarterback.

And I told the team, I said, you've got
an opportunity to tell the world that

you are the very best.

And no doubt in my mind, you're fixing
to kick the living shit out of this

front.

Because you're the best.

Inside the locker room, Jimmy gave one
heck of a halftime speech.

Man, they opened them doors.

We came out.

Team was on fire.

Dallas certainly has the weapons to get
back in this football game. They have

not performed well at all.

But in the case of the Buffalo Bills,
they have the opportunity now. Can they

take advantage of it?

They've been in this spot before.

Let's go, Buffalo!

We're down by seven, but history has
shown us that the Bills have the

to fall apart.

Side hand off to Thomas, and he's
knocked down in a buckle.

The Cowboys pick it up, and here comes
James Washington.

For the 30, for the...

James Washington returns at 46 yards.

Untouched. Nobody even got close to
touching me on the biggest stage in the

biggest game.

I was in a zone. The Dallas defense has
spurred quickly here in the second half.

A new game at 13.

Lots of time, guys. Keep recording.

This is a dangerous drive for the
Buffalo Bills.

Come on, Jimbo!

Dallas, with that defensive score, it
picks up their spirits, and they know

to take advantage of opportunity.

And Kelly in trouble, and Jimbo brings
them down. The first sack of the game

Dallas. The Cowboys' defense has
responded to the charge of Timmy

First possession in the second half.

Troy's not at his very best.

And so North calls a run and play.

Power right.

And Emmett says, hey, North, turn me
loose, let me go.

I say, you got it, babe.

And here comes Emmett, ripping through
across the 46.

Boom, pick up about four or five.

Smith again, like a different pack in
the second half.

Boom, picks up a first down.

They called the same running player.

Well, Jeff Gallows has found something
here.

Boom, kicked up more.

Smith again.

Smith again.

Smith again.

What's happening here, Hank? Does
anybody else get to touch this thing?

He called six straight running players.

Smith, his emotions driving him. Just
solid rock inside that uniform.

And we just gasped, gasped.

Kelly pacing the sidelines.

hoping the defense can hold.

Buffalo is in champs. They don't know
what to do.

Emmitt breaks a tackle.

Ten, five, touchdown.

Almost single -handedly, Emmitt Smith
goes downfield, defying the defense 61

yards on that drive.

$20 to $13.

And that momentum's shit.

The Cowboys now have just completely
turned this game around in the second

We regained control of the game and kept
doing it.

Uh -oh, down goes Kelly Jones with a
sack.

He is drilled for a four -yard loss by
Woodson, 28.

It's absolutely hammered right on his
Easter.

And for Buffalo, when you don't win
these games, and that is your history,

doesn't take a lot for the players to
say, but it's just not meant to be.

Intercepted! James Washington again!

Washington was just sitting back there,
hoping somebody would throw his leg.

At the close time, they start to
celebrate on the Dallas sideline.

Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones are going
to be dangerous, together.

Here's the bucket.

Oh, tough to miss that here.

Hey, you can do whatever you want to

Cowboys back to back in the hat.

The game is over, and the Cowboys reign
supreme.

The Dallas dynasty is real.

Abbott Smith has been named Super Bowl
Most Valuable Player.

And for Buffalo, this is a part of
history they did not want their name

to.

Four straight Super Bowl losses.

It was heartbreak.

I never got the feeling of being in the
locker room and winning the Super Bowl.

I don't know what that feeling would be
like. I'm sure it would be awesome.

I thank God right now.

Thank God.

Hell yeah.

This is possible because a man has given
everything that he could give, not

talking about Jimmy, since we came here.
And his spirit and his effort is

reflected in the way these players play.

But, Jerry, I think everybody's kind of
gotten a kick out of Jimmy and Jerry and

thinking that we were at each other's
throats.

When you win these kind of things, the
only thing you're going to do at each

other's throat is hug it.

time and a challenging time

everything's going good and you've just

There's more than just spring training
going on in Florida.

The NFL meetings are underway in
Orlando.

We're covering the NFL owners meetings
in Orlando.

It's a party.

It's just a party. All the coaches,
general managers, owners, their wives,

officials, media.

They had a dinner function the NFL put
on in Orlando at Disney World.

And we're sitting there just having a
drink.

There was North Turner and his wife, me
and my wife.

Rhonda and Jimmy were sitting there, and
Jerry came over, and obviously they had

something to drink. We both had
something to drink.

The night as I remember it, it was a
glancing by chance meeting.

They were familiar faces.

So I raised my glass that I was walking
with and said, here's to our Super Bowl

win. So I grab my drink, and everybody
grabs their drink, and we start putting

it up to toast Jerry.

And we look, and Jimmy's sitting there
basically with his arms folded,

and there's no toast.

One of the advantages of knowing
someone,

for years and years and years, is you
often can communicate

with nothing but eyes.

No word has to come out, but you're
talking to me, baby.

We're talking.

At the bar that night, there was a large
gathering of a lot of NFL media, and

Jerry sat down with us.

He was clearly aggravated and frustrated
about something, mad even.

But we decided the night's over, time to
leave.

And after walking past Jerry's table,
Jerry grabs a fistful of my pants leg

he says, don't leave now.

And I said, why not? And he said, you'll
miss the story of the year. And I said,

what's the story of the year?

And he said, I'm going to fire that
motherfucker, Jimmy Johnson, that

son of a bitch.
