Episode 7

-What is it? -Your Highness.

This is the crown prince's carriage.

Please move aside.

Let go of me!

Why did you stop?

Crown Prince, it's Prince Li.

Do you need me to teach you what to do?

I got this, Your Highness.

In Northern Realm, besides the emperor's carriage,

carriage of the Eastern Palace should pass first.

This is the crown prince's carriage.

Commoners should move aside immediately.

Who are you calling commoners?

Hold tight.

Somebody!

-He's a lunatic! -Crown prince.

Let's go!

-Your Highness. -Your Highness.

-Your Highness. -Choose a good horse from your barn...

-and send it to the capital's Yamen. -Yes, Your Highness.

It's already late and your clothes are wet.

Stay in my manor to dry your clothes first.

-Your Highness. -Lead this lady inside to rest.

Yes, Your Highness.

This way please.

You are in my thoughts for so long without you knowing about it.

Who is going to talk about this love between us first?

Luckily, I am attentive to myself.

That's why I let you turn back the time.

The western wind is preventing you to accept the spring here.

But I'm still waiting under the rain with you.

Although the future is unpredictable,

I'll do my best to create a story together with you.

Your Highness, Miss Man Yao is here.

Have a seat.

Thank you for letting me stay here yesterday.

I feel unease that I had stayed here for a night.

So, I'm here to bid my farewell.

You want to leave?

Yesterday night, I used my horse to ram into the crown prince's carriage.

And the crown prince saw that you were riding with me.

Although the crown prince can do nothing to me,

it's be easy for him to arrest you for ramming into him...

and interrogate you in his manor.

If you don't believe me, you can walk out from this manor.

I think the spies from the Easter Palace...

will be very glad to arrest you and bring you to him for interrogation.

You are the one who rammed into him, not me.

If he's a reasonable person,

he won't try to take advantage of you in the prison of Minister of Justice.

I can't stay long in your manor.

There are many things that await me in Moon Embrace Teahouse.

Before you came back to Zhongshan,

your teahouse is doing fine on it's own.

But now that you are back,

it seems like they can't do without you for even a second.

Can you help me once more?

I'm helping you...

by keeping you here.

But if I don't go back,

I'm afraid that they'll make troubles in the teahouse.

That's an easy solution for that.

Guards!

-Your Highness. -Your Highness.

Bring a few people along to keep a close eye on Moon Embrace Teahouse.

If someone dares to make troubles,

-teach them a lesson. -Yes, your Highness.

I'll go together with them.

Thank you, Your Highness. Farewell.

Don't go yet.

-Your Highness. -I sent them to protect the teahouse.

But I didn't say that you can leave.

But...

Wu You, actually,

there are ways for you to know whether Man Yao likes you or not.

What are they?

I can use drugging mist to test her.

This is too unrefined.

For women, they say one thing and mean another.

We need to use both hard and soft tactics.

If she wants to leave, make her stay.

If she wants to stay, make her leave.

If she wants to go east, make her go west.

If she wants to say something, silence her.

Until the end when she listens to you,

it'll mean that she has given you her heart. Understand?

I thought that you are not interested in women.

But I remember that in the teahouse back then,

you were the one who...

That day, I didn't mean to ram into you.

But I can't help it, not with the situation back then.

I did not do it on purpose.

If you have any doubts about me,

you can just say it out.

No point to force me to stay here.

If a woman is too stupid,

she'll be detestable.

If she is too smart, she'll be feared.

Although that's not your intention,

you have already captured my heart.

Your Highness, about the Clearwater River...

I'll report it later.

Your Highness, you have more important things to do.

I'll take my leave first.

For me, there is nothing more important...

than you.

I think of you when the moon is full,

Follow me. Let me bring you to a place.

You who came to a strange land to build our lands together.

I think of you when night has fallen...

and when the fog has parted.

My yearning for you has turned you into my reason.

You are my happiness, my worries and...

This place looks like it's newly built.

Why did you...

bring me here?

What do you think about the designs here?

I just know that the things in here are very expensive.

I know nothing about designs.

They just decorated it with rare and beautiful things.

I'm just asking you whether or not you like it.

You have good taste.

I think this place is very nice.

Since you like it,

from now on, this place will be called Man Yin Chamber...

and will be given to you. How about that?

Are for us to waste it.

Rather than having no worries and having a dull life,

I rather pursue you.

Even though the flower might wilt and I might fail,

at least I had tried my best.

-Brother Wu You. -Princess Zhao Yun,

His Highness is busy his duty.

What kind of duty is this?

Zhao Yun, who let you in?

Brother Wu You, I'm here to thank you.

The son of Prince Qing He has asked my uncle for my hands.

Princess Rong Le has humiliated him in public last time.

So, he wants a revenge.

My uncle almost agreed to his proposal.

I heard that luckily you managed to break off that marriage in public.

Or else, I would have to marry that pervert.

No need to marry that kind of person.

I know. In this world, only you treat me the best.

Another person is Princess Rong Le.

Who is this woman? How can you bring her to your manor?

You are already engaged to Princess Rong Le.

No need to meddle with my affairs. Leng Yan.

-Bring her back to her manor. -Please come with me, Princess.

Brother Wu You. How can you do that?

What should we do?

Brother Xiao, you are back!

Princess Rong Le didn't come back last night and no news from her.

Has something happened to her?

I'll search for the princess.

Are you sure that the princess didn't come back at all last night?

That's right. The princess didn't come back at all.

Both of us has waited for a whole night.

That right. Both of us slept in the princess's room...

and never left the place.

Your Highness.

That day, we were disturbed when were playing chess in the teahouse.

Today, how about we give our best...

and play a few rounds of chess again?

Alright.

It's no fun to just play chess.

How about we make a bet.

What bet?

If I lose, I'll fulfil one request of yours.

If you lose, you have to let me go.

What's so bad about my manor?

Why do you want to leave this place again and again?

This manor is fantastic.

But I'm just a commoner.

It's not convenient for me to stay here for long.

You are so sure that you will win?

Your Highness, Prince Chen is here.

He has insisted to see you.

Pardon me.

Wu You.

Wu Yu, what are you doing?

I heard that you already examined this body yesterday night.

You must have known that he's Deputy Minster Ma.

And he's the right hand man of Yu Shi Hai.

But why will he appear on the ship...

and why will there be a shipwreck?

Wu You, you already know about it since the beginning, right?

What are you trying to say?

Deputy Minister Ma is the main witness for this rank-selling case.

This ship is full of other innocent people.

Yu Shi Hai has sacrificed so many just to kill Deputy Minister Ma.

Do you have evidence?

Deputy Minister Zhang was killed in a fire in his house.

Deputy Minister Cui met a sudden death with foam at the mouth.

And together with this shipwreck incident.

Those officers who died in these seemingly real accidents...

are all interconnected with this rank-selling case.

Wu You, this is no accident. This is murder.

Since you already know, you shouldn't come and make a ruckus here.

Wu You, you saw how Sir Zhao died in that teahouse with your own eyes.

Now, you are the only one who can solve this case.

But you chose to remain aloof.

I get you, Wu You.

Please uphold justice for these innocent people.

Justice?

Justice again.

Do you think that you can solve all problems by getting rid of Yu Shi Hai?

This rank-selling business has been here for so long.

But nobody ever brought it up. Do you know why?

If we dig deep into it, how many will turn out clean?

I don't care how many will turn out clean.

Have you forgotten?

When Chief Minister Qin was still alive, he said that...

if there's anybody who could continue his aspiration, it would be you.

Fine. If you don't want to take care about it,

then I'll take care of it myself. After all, I have the letter.

I don't believe that they can get out scot-free.

What is it? Even you are mad at me?

When Qin's family was slaughtered,

how many in the court...

had stood up to him?

And how many of them had hit him while he was down?

My mother passed away and the transformation was put to a stop.

So, of course the court is doomed to be unstable...

and rotten to the core.

Even if one has great power,

it would be hopeless.

-Leng Yan. -Yes, Your Highness.

Find somebody to keep an eye on him.

If something happens to him, report to me immediately.

Yes, Your Highness.

Prince Chen!

-Get lost! -Your Highness, you can't come in.

Zong Zheng Wu Yu, let go of me!

Don't you know that it's capital crime to barge into the Eastern Palace?

Selling ranks and titles and killing in cold blood...

are the real capital crimes here!

You!

Every case that is recorded in this letter...

is your doings!

I'll report this to our father. Let's see how you deny it!

Give that to me!

-Guards! Are all of you useless? -Your Highness.

Let go of me, you scoundrel.

You want to report me with this useless paper?

How dare you come here to threaten me with this?

How dare you destroy the evidence in the palace?

Evidence?

Well then.

Today, I'll take this evidence...

and bring you along to face our father.

Let's see what you can do to me.

Listen to me carefully.

Prince Chen barged into the Eastern Palace...

to assassinate the crown prince.

According to the law, I have to send him to the Supreme Court.

If anything else other than this message is spread out,

-kill the one who spreads it. -Yes, Your Highness!

How dare you, you scoundrel!

How dare you, you scoundrel!

Evidence?

Your Highness.

This is the third round.

Looks like you are going to lose again.

According to our bet,

you have to let me go.

When did I agree to your bet?

Your Highness, this is already a foregone conclusion.

-You are going back on your words? -What if I do?

In chess, you don't regret the steps you took.

There will always be a winner and a loser.

If you are so scared about losing,

from now on,

I wouldn't dare to play chess with you again.

Are you threatening me?

I don't dare to.

Actually, you are not a person who cares about winning or losing.

Or else, you won't take care of Princess Zhao Yun who has family.

Looks like you are not thinking about the chess or the bet.

What are you trying to say?

If I play chess with you and brood after I lost,

I wouldn't have the heart to improve my skills.

So, I'll just keep on losing to you after that.

But if I focus on improving my skills...

and trudge forward,

even if I lose to you again in the end,

at least I had tried my best.

Try your best.

Trudge forward.

Looks like you are good in comforting a person.

If I don't know how to twist my words around,

how can I do business?

So, in your opinion,

how should I go forward?

Although the art of chess...

is focusing on that three-steps-ahead theory,

the one step that you have to take now...

is the most important one.

You want me to take on the rank-selling case.

If you don't take this step,

more innocent people are going to be dragged into this, right?

Your Highness. Something bad had happened.

There are news saying that Prince Chen tried to...

assassinate the crown prince.

And Yu Shi Hai has sued him for murder and slandering the crown prince.

Now, he's already in prison waiting for his trial.

The prisoner, Qin Yong is here.

Prisoner Qin Yong...

is a traitor to the country. He and his whole family will be executed.

Those officers who died in these seemingly real accidents...

are all interconnected with this rank-selling case.

This is no accident. This is murder.

My mother's dying wish won't protect you forever.

This will be the last chance I give you.

Although the art of chess...

is focusing on that three-steps-ahead theory,

the one step that you have to take now...

is the most important one.

If you don't take this step,

more innocent people are going to be dragged into this, right?

I have lived long enough.

I never thought that I'll be able to see Prince Li in the court.

Prince Li is young but capable and he's brilliant.

He even secured the three states in the south. He's at his prime.

The war with Wei is starting soon. Now that Prince Li is here,

I think there will be changes in the court.

That's right.

Arrival of His Majesty.

Long live the Emperor!

You may rise.

Thank you, Your Majesty.

In today's morning court, we will discuss about Prince Chen's case.

What do you have to say?

Please voice out.

Your Majesty.

About the murder of Deputy Minister Ma, we have proof that...

the sunken ship is made by the Ministry of Public Works...

that is under Prince Chen.

From the remnants of the ship that were scooped out,

we found the names of the shipbuilders and their supervisor.

Prince Chen thought that the evidence was destroyed.

So, he took out a false letter in palace ground...

to accuse the crown prince and me.

Your Majesty. Let's put the death of Deputy Minister Ma aside first.

The letter is about rank-selling. And it spoke of great implication.

We have to do a thorough investigation to be sure of the culprit.

Before this, Sir Ma and Prince Chen had fought over...

a girl from a public house.

Madam Qin from House of Fragrance has personally told us about it.

Now, he used a letter to accuse me and Sir Yu...

that we are involved in a rank-selling case.

I think he just want to offend me.

Wu You.

What do think about this?

The shipwreck case is widely connected to many things.

We can't just make a hasty conclusion.

As for the rank-selling case, whether or not it's a false accusation,

I'll personally investigate about it.

Please ask the Ministry of Justice to hold on for now.

I'll bring the truth to light in a week's time.

Your Majesty, Prince Chen and Prince Li are very close.

I'm afraid that others won't be convinced...

if he's the one who takes on this case.

Your Majesty, pardon me for interrupting.

Since Prince Li has promised us seven days,

we'll do it the military way.

After even days, if he can procure the witnesses and evidence,

we'll put them to trial as per usual...

for both the ship wreck and rank-selling case.

If he has nothing, Prince Li will have to be caned,

his salaries deducted and his rank lowered. How about that?

Fair enough.

We'll do as General Fu has said.

Prince Chen. Someone is here to see you.

I don't want to see anybody at all!

Brother Wu Yu, it's me.

Why did you come here?

How can a delicate princess like you come down to the prison?

Are you alright?

This place is dark and damp.

Did you eat and sleep well?

Did they do anything to you?

It's alright.

After all, I'm still a prince.

Although I'm not my father's favourite,

they can't do anything to me...

as long as I'm not guiltily charged.

-I already told you many times... -So painful.

to think before you act.

Don't be affected by your temper and act rashly.

But you never listen.

You know how's the crown prince is like, right?

He's petty and he seeks revenge for a small thing. Why do you provoke him?

Now, in order to save you, Brother Wu You...

had made a deal in the Great Hall to solve the case in seven days.

You are just worried about your Brother Wu You.

Don't cry.

It's my fault.

Don't cry.

Stop crying, I beg you.

Princess Zhao Yun. It's late already. You should leave now.

If crown prince and Sir Yu find out about this,

I'll be dead.

Alright.

Stop crying.

Don't worry. I'll go and beg the empress now.

I'll beg her to talk the emperor and crown prince into letting you out.

Promise me, don't cry anymore.

Alright.

You have to take care of yourself.

You still haven't found the person that I had asked you too?

This person is very cunning.

At first, we already have his trace.

But when we reach there,

he has already left.

I'll send more people to look for him.

No need. The more people there are,

the easier it is for an information to be leaked.

Send a message to Minister Wu. He'll be in charge of this.

We have to find this person's hiding spot.

-Yes, Your Highness. -You may leave.

Your Highness.

You are still here.

How's Prince Chen?

Looks like you are quite worried about him.

Prince Chen is very straightforward and he hates evil.

Now, he is framed by others and is sent into prison.

I feel bad for him.

He is too reckless and he never thinks about the consequences.

It's time for him to learn his lessons.

If you really think that,

you wouldn't have gone to the court to accept this case.

Before, you never take part in the state affairs...

and yet people had already sent assassins to murder you.

Now, you went into the court and accepted this case.

There will be more assassinations for sure.

Please be careful, Your Highness.

Are you worried about me?

Before this, you always acted so cold.

So, I thought that you are a heartless man.

But from the looks of it now,

by lending a helping hand to Princess Zhao Yun...

and taking on a case for Prince Chen,

I can see that you have a cold exterior...

but with a warm heart inside.

I respect you. That's why I worry about your safety.

If you think so, why do you always think about leaving?

I'm different from you.

-I have my own mission. -What is your mission?

My mission is of course about expanding my business.

I want to open my teahouse in every country.

You are quite ambitious.

This is just the ambition of a merchant.

It's incomparable to you who have to care for the people in this nation.

I don't have many people around me.

I'm just doing my best to protect them.

The people in this nation...

has nothing to do with me.

You might say that...

but that might not be what you think.

Why do you say that?

I know a little about Lady Yun and Chief Minister Qin...

when they were still alive. And they have my deep respect.

I don't need to guess...

whose memorial tablet this is for.

It has been more than 20 years.

But you still remember the departed.

I can see that you have never forgotten...

about your elders' unfulfilled wishes.

If other people speak about this,

I will not give them a chance to continue.

You know that I bring no ill will.

You have a clear view on the shipwreck case.

I can see that you have always paid attention to the public affairs.

That's why you let Prince Chen make a scene in the Eastern Palace.

Because everything is under your control.

Looks like I have underestimated you once again.

I'm sure that...

you have already read that letter.

I found that in the Moon Embrace Teahouse.

Of course I need to take a look to make sure that...

it won't bring me any harm.

You have a really...

good pair of eyes.

I didn't look with my eyes.

I look with my heart.

Only by using heart,

can you see the intentions of others.

Then can you see my intentions toward you?

I miss you but I can only gaze at you in silence.

You are keeping me out with your care. Although we are together...

You are a very closed off person.

I think I can only see the things...

that you chose to let me see.

Usually, you are very careful with words and you are good in pretending.

But you said so much today.

Are you trying to tell me that...

it'll be dangerous for me to be too close to you?

And so, I should send you back immediately?

You think too much, Your Highness.

I just feel that...

if a person is too good in pretending,

he'll live a very exhaustive life.

In this life, if there's no one who understand you,

won't you feel very lonely?

For you, I am willing to suffer.

I want to ward off the coldness for you.

As long as I can be with you,

I'm willing to choose the cold.

Lian Xin. Clean it carefully. Don't spoil it.

Lian Xin.

Lian Xin!

Yes, Sister Ling Yue.

Sir, do you have news about princess?

I already know where she is.

-She will be back soon. -That's great.

-I'll go and make some preparations. -Me too.

Lian Xin.

Thank you, Brother Xiao.

Please enjoy your meal.

Where is His Highness?

He's still in discussion with Sir Leng.

I don't wish to eat these oily food today.

Please prepare some porridge and some dishes for me.

Alright.

Come out.

Are you alright, Princess?

I'm fine. What about you? How did you get in?

I had been waiting for a chance to come in.

I saw some carriages coming without being checked.

So, I followed the last carriage to come inside.

Why did nobody check the carriages?

I think they carry the secret files from the palace.

Only Prince Li can open it.

Princess, I'll find a way to bring you out.

No need.

Since Prince Li kept me here,

I can use this chance to get some information.

Since you are here, help me out.

Your Highness.

" Lin's Village outside of the northern suburb. "

-Send someone to get him. -Yes, Your Highness.

Wait.

Leng Yan, take a look at this.

Do you still remember that...

when Chief Minister Qin was still here,

he used to bring in talented people from all over the place...

-to work for our nation, right? -Yes, I do.

The Chief Minister didn't care about their family backgrounds.

So, many people from the poor had become the officers in the court.

Something was mentioned here.

Sixteen years ago, Li Zhi Yuan was appointed as a third-rank officer.

He is a high-ranking talent.

Based on what I know, most of the high-ranking talents...

from that period were hired as assistants...

to join in with the writing of The Book of Mountains and Rivers.

The Book of Mountains and Rivers.

So, not only Li Zhi Yuan...

has the evidence about crown prince selling the ranks,

it's very possible that...

he has the clue about my teacher's case sixteen years ago.

-Search the roof for intruder! -Roger that!

Your Highness. Nobody is outside.

The Book of Mountains and Rivers.

-Who is it? -It's me.

Come in.

It's so late. What is it?

I saw that you are still awake.

So, I brought a calming incense for you.

Thank you for your care, Your Highness.

Rest well.

Princess, we already have a clue about the book.

What is out next step?

Princess, you can't waver. You have to be determined.

Please remember that you are Princess Rong Le of Western Qi.

Just focus on hiding yourself well.

Go back the same way when they send out the secret files.

Do not reveal your identity.

I have my own plans for The Book of Mountains and Rivers.

Need not worry about it.

Yes, Princess.

Scoundrel! How can you let Li Zhi Yuan escape?

He's just a helpless scholar.

Where can he run?

Li Zhi Yuan is very secretive.

We couldn't find him although I had sent out many to do so.

If we can't find him, I'm sure that Prince Li can't find him too.

As long as he stays hidden,

Prince Li can do nothing against us.

Idiot!

This man knows too many of our secrets.

Now that Prince Li has known that he's still alive,

he must be killed.

We can't let Prince Li get to him first.

Now, the His Majesty's trust is already wavering.

If we are exposed for selling ranks,

crown prince will be in deep trouble. Understand?

Sir Yu.

If this man lives and the worst comes to worst, I'll just lose some money.

But for Yu family,

you are the one who will be in deep trouble.

Yes, Your Highness.

Sir, Li Zhi Yuan's house is already empty.

These are the ones left.

Where is Li Zhi Yuan?
