Episode 5

Thank you. Thank you for saving my life.

What do we do with this lady?

Bring her to the inn.

Yes.

Get a doctor.

Yes.

Brother!

Brother!

Don't touch me!

Brother.

I think you can tolerate the touch of a woman now.

You and the mistress of Moon Embrace...

were so intimate and holding each other's hands.

I am not sure either.

Brother, in order to prove if you can let a lady touch you...

A handsome reward awaits after it's done.

Mother!

Get out!

Brother? Are you all right? Calm down.

You said everything is set.

How did it fail?

Your Highness, I received news.

Prince Li was ambushed at the Moon Embrace Teahouse.

Is this somehow connected to Your Highness?

You told His Highness about this foul plan?

Did you learn nothing from the last mistake?

How could you be so reckless?

If Prince Li can be so easily killed,

he would have been dead long ago.

Minister, do not blame Wen Jie for this.

Wen Jie does have a point.

Zong Zheng Wu You is ambitious and that is known by all.

If we hadn't come prepared...

and got rid of those related to the rank-selling case,

I am afraid...

we would have been put on trial for this case.

Which is why...

Zong Zheng Wu You...

must be eliminated.

Father, rest assured,

the assassination attempt may have failed,

but the Creed of Vengeance acts in secrecy.

Everything will be fine.

The Creed of Vengeance?

It's an organization that came to rise in recent years.

It has many capable assassins under its employment.

They are hired to get rid of trouble and gather information.

They do their job in a subtle way.

Even if something went wrong,

-we will not be exposed. -So,

you told His Highness about the Creed and kept me in the dark?

Don't you understand? Whether we failed or not,

if this information reaches His Majesty,

he will suspect this is the Crown Prince's doing.

As long as we have no evidence,

the Crown Prince will be in danger all the time.

What if we do have the evidence?

Wen Jie, get it done now.

Seal off Moon Embrace, arrest them and gather evidence.

Yes.

Brother.

Brother.

Brother.

I am sorry.

I should have thought about the consequences.

I shouldn't have taken the risk to test you.

I am sorry, Brother.

Brother.

You were ambushed by assassins at the teahouse.

I am sure you know who planned it.

Other than the Crown Prince and his ilk,

no one would try so hard to have you killed.

They were in hiding for years.

They are finally making a move.

Brother, what do we do next?

The killers are no ordinary thugs.

Should we send our men to Moon Embrace to investigate...

and see if there is any clue?

Don't bother.

The teahouse is nothing but emptied.

We won't find anything there.

You should get a good night sleep instead.

Perhaps tomorrow...

something big might happen.

Tomorrow?

That was nice.

You are awake.

I was attacked by thugs last night.

Fortunately, you saved me.

I am deeply grateful.

It's no big deal. You are welcome.

I got you a doctor.

He read your pulse.

The wounds are dressed.

But you did suffer from some inner injury.

You need a couple of days to heal.

Are you feeling better now?

I am fine now. Thank you for your concern.

If it's inconvenient in any way,

I apologize in advance.

You passed out back there.

I brought you here without your permission.

I hope you are not offended.

You saved my life. I should be grateful.

I listened to the melody you were playing.

It's rather unique.

Judging by your tone,

do you play instrument yourself?

Only on paper.

Only on paper?

So, what do you think about this song?

The melody...

is far-reaching and tranquil.

It's actually a lighter tone on the outside.

But it carries a certain sorrow with it.

You could tell there were sorrow...

just by listening to the tranquility behind the tunes?

It seems like you know a lot more than you claim to be.

I named this song 'The Past'.

I wrote this song seven years ago.

You look to be in your early twenties.

You were just a teenager seven years ago.

But you could already feel such degree of sorrow?

I was simply asking.

I mean no disrespect.

You have my thanks for saving my life.

I will never forget your kindness.

I shall repay you one day when I have the chance.

I have been here long enough. I should be on my way now.

I ordered the cook to prepare breakfast for you.

My lady,

stay for breakfast before leaving.

I appreciate the offer.

I have some urgent matters to see to.

I wish to go home.

In that case, I shall not make you stay.

Guards.

Yes, Master.

See this lady off for me.

Yes.

Thank you, sir. So long.

How are you lately, Father?

Much better.

Good, I am glad to hear that.

Thank you for the concern.

Have a seat.

Slowly.

Your Highness, this way.

His Highness is here?

This way.

-Your Highness. - Prince Li and Prince Chen.

At ease.

I heard you are ill, so I came to pay a visit.

Thank you for the concern.

Your Highness has never been interested in politics.

You avoided meeting with all the other officers.

Yet, Your Highness still cares about my well-being.

I am grateful for it.

I was under your teachings for years.

I know you are a man with knowledge and honour.

I can't compare you with those men.

I simply taught you how to read and write.

It was my duty as your teacher.

I can never replace Chief Minister Qin.

I understand. Sir Qin holds a place in your heart...

as your true mentor.

Teacher, that is not entirely true.

My brother has a lot of respect for you.

When he learned that you are ill,

he came here to visit you.

Seeing that you are still in good spirit, you seem to be fine.

That is a relief for us students.

I am old.

Sickness is nothing unusual for me.

Your Highness need not be worried about me.

I haven't been to the Imperial Court for days.

But I did hear about the marriage you turned down.

Your Highness refused to marry Princess Rong Le.

What is your plan for the future?

I have no plan in particular.

I simply refuse to become a pawn for the game of power.

Your Highness hold onto your belief and follow your heart,

that is truly respectable.

But Your Highness is still young.

You need not be burdened by the past.

Spring is here and the blossoms are blooming.

Maybe Your Highness can talk a stroll outside.

Indeed. The scenery at Clearwater River is beautiful.

It's the best time to enjoy some songs and wine.

Well, why not take Ya Li with you?

She is the only child I have.

Her mother passed away while she was young.

She is not a very outgoing girl.

Great, can I tag along?

I love to see the scenery.

-Your Highness. -What is it?

General Fu returned victorious from the battle.

Your Highness is summoned by the Emperor.

Brother, is this what you mentioned last night?

-It's General Fu! -General Fu is back.

General Fu is back.

It's General Fu.

This is great!

As decreed by His Majesty,

General Fu is ordered to enter the palace at once.

I shall do as I am ordered.

At your service, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty,

the mutiny at the southern border is pacified.

The leader of mutiny is beheaded.

From now on,

no one shall disrespect Your Majesty's authority.

Well done.

I knew I was right about you all along.

General Fu, you are young and capable.

You always return victorious.

The borders of Northern Realm shall be free from all skirmishes.

Send my words.

The battle at the south is a victory.

All the soldiers and warriors shall be rewarded.

Yes, Your Majesty.

General Fu Chou is a fine commander.

He returned victorious.

He will now be granted the title of 'General of Defence',

promoted to first rank and a thousand tael of gold.

I thank Your Majesty for the reward.

Your Majesty.

I was able to secure a victory...

all thanks to Prince Li's tactics.

The credit is not mine alone.

That is not an issue.

General, at ease.

I reward you for the feat you achieved.

As for Prince Li, I know what must be done.

He will be rewarded as well.

Very wise indeed, Your Majesty.

Your Majesty is wise.

The skirmishes at the south...

were caused by officers that neglected their duties.

In order to prevent such incident,

I was planning to let Wu You...

be in charge of the three provinces in the south.

What are your thoughts on this?

Father, that is a wise decision.

Prince Li has an brilliant mind.

If Prince Li is in charge of the southern provinces,

there will be no more mutiny at the borders.

Very wise indeed, Father.

If Wu You is here,

I am sure he will be grateful.

I have always had my trust in General Fu.

I remember the first time I met you.

You remind me...

of who I was when I was at your age.

I have always believed...

you will be the pillar for the army of Northern Realm.

It seems like you have lived up to my expectations.

It's all thanks to Your Majesty's guidance.

A moment, General Fu.

Greetings, Crown Prince.

The campaign has been a long journey.

I will hold a feast at the Eastern Palace...

as a token of welcoming your return.

Do I have the honour to invite you?

I appreciate the offer, Your Highness.

However,

I went through bloodshed from the battles.

I am still carrying wounds.

My presence might bother the serenity of Eastern Palace.

May I revisit the manor when my injuries are healed?

Sure.

I shall await your visit at the Eastern Palace.

Brother!

Brother!

Brother!

Brother! Great news!

It's a shame you weren't at the court this morning.

Let me have some water first.

Father is putting you in charge of the three provinces...

in the south while the officers just watched.

The Crown Prince and his ilk were so shocked.

The south is a land of prosperity.

Father is giving you the land as your reward.

Brother.

Once you have the land, you can have your troops.

Even if the Crown Prince got the throne,

it won't be easy for him to make a move on you.

That is nonsense.

Brother.

I know you have no interest in getting the throne.

But the victory at the south is thanks to your tactics.

Luckily, Fu Chou is a man of decency.

He was still humble after he got the title of General of Defence.

He praised you in front of Father.

Then, Father gave...

What else did he say?

What else can he say?

You know him well enough.

He has no background in the Imperial Court.

But he is disciplined and cautious.

Thanks to you, he got a promotion of two ranks.

He is sure to support Father's decision to put you in charge.

Those officers have nothing to say about this.

" Moon Embrace Teahouse "

Are you the mistress of Moon Embrace Teahouse?

Sir, what is the crime I am charged with?

What is your crime?

Prince Li was ambushed at your premise.

His Majesty is now furious.

Ministry of Justice is investigating.

Any who is connected to the case must be brought in for questions.

-Take her away! -Yes.

Move!

The Princess is arrested?

Ministry of Justice arrested Her Highness.

I knew it, she was out there all night because she is in trouble.

What do we do now?

Prince Li is His Majesty's favourite son.

We might be in deep trouble this time.

Brother Xiao, think of something to help the Princess.

Or...

Or we can tell His Majesty about her true identity.

No.

Revealing her identity is the last resort.

Otherwise we will put Her Highness in greater risk.

What do we do then?

Calm down and keep watch at the manor.

I will find a way to meet the Princess.

I know. If someone is here for Her Highness,

I will tell them she is startled by the accident.

She is having headache and needs to rest.

She can't see any guests.

Come in.

Sir Xiao, order from the palace.

The Empress heard about Princess Rong Le's illness.

Her Majesty will be here for a visit this afternoon.

Please, be ready for it.

Very well, you may go now.

Yes.

Oh no, what do we do now?

We can't possibly refuse to let Her Majesty in.

What do we do now?

This way, Princess.

Greetings, Princess.

How is Princess Rong Le?

I have been here for a few times.

I want to thank her for helping me out that day.

I heard she is ill because she was frightened.

She can't meet any guests.

I was so happy when Sir Xiao let me in just now.

Princess Rong Le couldn't bear to disappoint your kindness.

But, Her Highness is suffering from a weird sickness.

She is bedridden.

Even Ling Yue is infected.

I am the only one left to look after them.

We can't let that happen. We need a doctor now!

-You must not go any closer! -Princess Rong Le!

-Sister? -Your Highness.

Sister. Sister?

Your Highness?

Sir Xiao's incense is amazing.

I was so scared just now.

Help! Princess Zhao Yun fainted!

Princess Zhao Yun!

I sent words to the palace.

Princess Zhao Yun might be infected with illness.

The Empress is the lady of this nation.

She must not risk coming here.

Get in!

Close the door!

Mistress, your hand is hurt.

I am fine.

What happened to Chen Yu?

She is ill.

The officers came to arrest us at dawn.

They said we are all suspects of the assassination.

But they beat Chen Yu without any reason.

They were even trying to kill everyone in the teahouse.

I had no choice but to stand out.

However,

I was brought here nonetheless.

What happened last night after I left?

After you left,

I was investigating the scene.

All the people in the teahouse passed out.

Those assassins came prepared.

They were targeting our teahouse for some time.

But don't worry about it.

I got everything in the teahouse settled.

I told Wei and the others to leave.

Only servants that know nothing were left behind.

The officers won't get anything from them.

Well done.

I was too sloppy.

These killers...

must have someone unknown to back them up.

They are cunning and skilled.

They are hired to kill Prince Li in our teahouse.

Who else could it be?

They want us dead because we were in their way.

When Sir Zhao was killed,

I should have seen this coming.

I doubt the people out there is going to put us on trial.

This matter is more complicated than it seems.

They are looking for a scapegoat for the failed assassination.

If they do put us on trial,

if we are in danger, maybe we can tell them...

No.

We cannot be compromised.

We might be charge with even greater crime.

-Qi might be caught up in this. -But your safety...

It doesn't matter.

I regret I couldn't be of help for my brother.

I don't want to cause him even more trouble.

Remember what I said.

Take them out of here.

Yes.

Let's go.

Your Majesty.

This is urgent, I must come here without your summon.

Did something happen to the Physician?

It's about him.

The Kite bears news.

Prince Li was ambushed at Moon Embrace Teahouse.

Long Yue and the others are nowhere to be found.

Anything about the Princess?

They didn't send any news about her.

Everything seems normal at her manor.

Your Majesty need not be worried.

If Prince Li was in Moon Embrace Teahouse,

with Her Highness brilliant mind,

she will avoid being in contact.

Inform the Kite.

Find out if Princess Rong Le is safe.

Meanwhile,

find Long Yue and the others.

Yes.

Rong Le.

Move!

Chen Yu?

This is the charge of hiring assassins to kill Prince Li.

Be smart and sign this paper.

You don't have to suffer any pain.

Not even a trial?

You are forcing me to surrender?

This is the fact.

There is no need for a trial.

Fact?

Prince Li is a noble royalty.

He is my regular customer.

I am but a businesswoman.

Why would I want to kill him and ruin my own business?

Why would I cut off my source of income?

Because you are a spy from Wei.

You have no evidence, you are framing me.

I don't need evidence to accuse a spy from Wei.

You run a teahouse.

That is just for your cover.

You real objective is to bring about war to our land.

You want the Northern Real to lose the fight before it even starts.

Stop!

You scoundrels step on the people's lives.

Insolent fool!

-Long Yue! -Tie them up!

-Yes. -You!

-Mistress! -Beat her!

Let go of me!

-Let go of me! -Let them go!

-Let me go! -Beat them up!

Let me go, you scoundrel!

Still not yielding? Admit your crime!

Stop it!

Stop!

Isn't this the famous Miss Chen Yu?

Your delicate figure is only suited to play music.

Stop!

Let her go! Stop!

-Stop! -Yield!

You want to save her?

Admit your crime now!

Mistress, no.

Miss, I promise you I'll hold on.

I can't stand here while they are beating you!

Let them go!

Stop!

Sir Yu.

This concerns the life and death of Prince Li.

Why are you still wasting your time on them?

Understood. I will make them sign the paper now.

Go!

Your Highness!

Moon Embrace is sealed off. Mistress and the shopkeeper...

-were taken by the guards! -What?

They sure are acting fast.

They just couldn't wait to get a scapegoat.

Brother!

Brother!

Are you not going to save them?

Why should I save them?

I thought you like...

You knew Moon Embrace Teahouse is connected to all of these?

As for what to do next,

I am sure you know.

Yes.

The people from the teahouse confessed.

The interrogation was too much for them. They died.

You imbeciles!

You framed the good people! You are worse than demons!

Mistress!

Mistress!

Wait!

The mistress of Moon Embrace...

is actually a beauty?

I heard Prince Li is your regular customer.

What a shame.

He has no interest in women and wine.

-What a waste for your pretty face. -Don't touch me!

You have quite a temper too!

This is the kind of lady I like.

If you die in here...

that would be a shame.

-What a shame. -Let go of me!

If Your Highness like her,

we can take her outside.

She can serve you before we execute her.

Don't you dare!

Yes, I do.

Stop!

You fiends! Stay away from her!

If you violate me,

one day...

I will make you pay in blood!

Is that so?

This might actually worth my time...

if I make use of her now!

Let go of me! Let go!

Your Highness!

Who is it? Guards!

Your Highness, are you all right?

Wu You?

The girl you are carrying...

is the major suspect of the assassination attempt!

She confessed about her crime.

And now you are taking her away?

What exactly do you want?

So,

the ambush last night was just part of your plan?

You can tell that to everyone if you want.

But I know well enough who is trying to kill me.

Wu You!

What was that supposed to mean?

Explain yourself!

This is but a small case.

Do they really need you for investigation?

My mother's dying will won't protect you forever.

This is the last chance you will ever have.

If you insist on going against me,

I won't show any mercy.

Wu You!

Brother.

You...

You are carrying her again.

Is she all right?

Brother, you just openly challenged the Crown Prince.

You are leaving him in the prison alone?

Find out what happened from the ladies of Moon Embrace.

Supreme Court, Ministry of Justice or His Majesty,

you will explain to them.

Brother.

You are starting to get nosy.

Did you fall for her?

-Nonsense. -That is not nonsense.

Any women that touches you ended up getting punched.

If you didn't fall for her,

why would you hug or even carry her?

I wish I know.

Brother, this is a good news. Don't run away from it.

Prince Chen.

-Just now... -Miss Long Yue, say no more.

I will get my men to the doctor.

Then, you can explain to me what happened.

Thank you, Prince Chen.

Zong Zheng Wu You!

Zong Zheng Wu You!

How dare he do that to me!

All of you, get out!

-Yes. -Scram!

Get lost!

Your Highness, what happened?

You just came back.

Why are you so mad?

Get out!

I am the wife of the Crown Prince.

I must not neglect my duty. I must give you my advice.

Your Highness is the Crown Prince.

Anger harms the body.

It taints the reputation of the nation.

The Crown Prince?

Zong Zheng Wu You has no respect for me at all!

The throne of the Crown Prince...

would have been his if he ever tries to take it!

Crown Prince?

If my place in the Eastern Palace is taken,

you will no longer be a consort either!

Don't worry, Your Highness.

My father will muster the strength of my clan...

and help Your Highness in securing the throne.

With your family that is growing weaker by the day?

You are nothing in face of the whole nation of Qi!

Marrying a failure like you...

is my greatest regret!

If I were to marry the Princess of Qi,

Zong Zheng Wu You would be a speck dust to me!

Where are Long Yue and Chen Yu?

You are barely out of danger yourself. Mind your own health.

Don't worry. Wu Yu is with them.

They are in safety.

As for your wounds...

It's just some scraps.

I am fine.

I thank you for saving me today.

For what?

Do you mean...

you weren't innocent?

Of course I am innocent.

In order to save me,

you have a fallout with the Crown Prince.

People might take it wrongly if words got out.

What they think is none of your concern.

But for me, you are...
