Original subtitles

You call those stilts?

These are stilts.

I wasn't building up to that sort of stilt, Wuss.

If you break your neck, it'll be worth it if you win the 50 bucks.

Where did they come from? Never mind.

Now give us a hint.

I bet we know what you guys are up to. Nick off!

You're trying to win the 50 bucks on Foundation Day. So what if we are?

Foundation Day's a big party for Eden Beach people. And you're not Eden Beach

people. Who's that?

Abby's mum. She organises Foundation Day. She said no ferals. You're not good

enough.

It's not fair.

Hey, I know where you got those from.

They're the oars of Dad's boat.

What?

Thank you very much.

Why do I love living in Eden Beach?

Write that down in your exercise books, please.

Why do I love living in Eden Beach?

Yes, Brooke?

You mean before the feral came here? Just write it down, please.

Everyone, writing.

Because that's your topic for the Foundation Day essay competition.

I want 500 well -chosen original words from each and every one of you.

Endless competition.

It's worth 50 bucks. Can you talk to your mum? I'm not even mentally talking

you, you know that. I know, except... So nick off.

But you're allowed to talk to me, aren't you?

I'll talk to mum. I can't promise, but I'll try.

I have to go.

Abby wants to know why the Freeman can't join in Foundation Day. Because

Foundation Day is for Eden Beach people.

And the Ferrells are not Eden Beach people.

But they live in Eden Beach.

They don't belong here.

So only people who belong here are invited? Mum, what does belong mean?

That you live in Eden Beach?

Yes. The freemen live here.

Oh, have it your own way then. You couldn't care less about the town when

let them stay and now you want to ruin Foundation Day.

Well, you're nothing if not committed.

Oh, who's going to tell them that they're now invited?

Oh, well, it was all your idea.

What's that?

It's like my hand.

That's a high five.

That $50 prize is ours. No worries.

What are you going to do?

You'll find out.

What are you going to do? Saw you in half.

Idiot, I'm not really going to. It's magic. What is? Me looking like I'm

you in half.

Pretend this is the contest, right?

These will already be in the box when you get in. What are they?

Mum keeps her boots on them.

Give me one of your shoes.

Now watch.

When you get in, you stick it out one of those holes.

Oh, they look like my real feet. Duh!

And your head will stick out that end. And when you get in, you lift your knees

up so you're out of the way of the saw. And then you throw the box in half.

And it looks like I'm throwing you in half, right?

Right. Now I'll put my school shoes and socks on those, right?

Right. And tomorrow, you wear your school shoes and socks, which are

same as mine, right?

Right. Right. Right.

Finally.

What we could have done with 50 bucks. Get over it.

Look out, it's Abby's grand.

Maybe we did something wrong and forgot about it.

We're invited to Foundation Day. Yes!

Marion, you right watching banjo? Yep.

Hey! Thank you!

Thank you!

Reckon this will entertain a few people on Foundation Day? Oh, yeah!

I told Marion to look after him.

Where's Marion?

Marion! Marion!

Thank you. Now, why weren't you watching Banjo like you were told?

Sorry. He nearly swallowed the kerosene.

I'm sorry.

We were just going to fix the stilts. They're my oars. Didn't you get the hint

last time? But we have to beat Sam and Ryan in the young entertainers contest.

Yeah, they reckon that we're not good enough.

Oh.

Okay.

I've got an idea.

Better than still? Yep.

Now you, go and give Banjo his dinner. But the contest is tomorrow.

And you, come with me.

What's this?

Property of the Incredible Otto do not open.

Why not?

and gay -parted.

Any bright thoughts?

I love living in Eden Beach a bit more after we beat Mum.

I dare you to write that.

You better get that. It won't be for me.

Hi. Remember Princess? My cousin's dog.

Of course.

Hello, Princess.

I borrowed her again for the Foundation Day dog parade. We always win.

She's a nice dog.

I've got so many girls wanting to help me get her ready.

Lucky you.

But I thought you looked a bit lonely at school today. I wasn't.

Of course not.

You're not missing Marion at all.

Anyway, I felt sorry for you, so if you want to help me get Princess ready, I

don't mind letting you.

Of course, if you don't want to help me, then I don't really care.

Okay. I can't get started on my essay anyway. You're actually going to make

something up?

I'm copying mine out of a fabulous magazine I found.

Your great -grandfather Otto did this trick.

Great. Keep an eye on Banjo. I'm keeping an eye on Banjo. Banjo, no! Naughty!

Sam and Ron will never beat this.

So, who's the genius now?

Well, I would have thought of it if I had found them.

Sorry I can't let you lead her, but she's far too valuable.

So how do I get out of this stuff?

You know, how do I undo the padlocks and escape?

What's the trick?

Yeah, good question.

What? I don't know. It didn't say how Otto got out of it.

There's got to be a way. Undo me. I'll find the way.

It was half an idea.

I'll work it out. Besides, we're running out of time.

You go and find out what Sam and Ryan are doing.

and Ryan get our act together.

What? No way.

Okay, bye.

What's up?

Mum said the ferals are allowed to enter the competition now. I can't believe

it.

I'll fix up the shoes. Go and find out what they're up to.

Okay.

It's got to be a trick, like holding your breath or something.

Wouldn't it be easy to sing a song or something?

The judges will want something extra special.

Besides, singing the song's for a girl. You sing one. I just might.

Padlock me.

Okay.

There's got to be some other way. Marion.

Snobs has taken off with Brookstone.

You've got to get her back.

What? Snobs is here. He's not.

He's with Princess.

I thought you two hated each other. I had nothing better to do.

Actually, I think she wants to be friends with me again, only she won't

it. Well, you better not be seen hanging around with me either.

Snob! Princess!

Snob! Princess!

Snob! Jeepers, look at you.

Brooke's not going to be very happy with you, is she?

get by tomorrow.

She looks like she had a heap of fun. I don't care.

Come on. I'll help you give her a bath.

What was Ryan doing?

Putting school shoes and socks on some wooden thing. What for?

I don't know.

You're hopeless.

I should have gone and checked it out myself.

This is your stupid dog. You bath it. I have to figure out how Otto escaped.

What's the problem, eh?

How did Otto escape from the chains and handcuffs?

Oh, well, okay.

The answer's in there.

What they see is the key.

Then the key they won't see.

What the heck does that mean?

How's it going?

Heaps better.

Good.

I saw you running around with Marion this afternoon.

I'm sorry. There was a reason. You don't have to apologise to me, Abby.

You're old enough to choose who your friends are.

See? Nothing to worry about. You're an idiot.

Marion's doing an escape trick.

It's a brilliant idea.

We can't be beaten by a feral.

Yeah, no way.

We have to sabotage it.

How?

Dead easy.

It's so easy.

Once you know.

We'll spill the beans.

Well, first, you chain me up, okay? And padlock you? And padlock me.

Then you wander over to snobs and put the key in his mouth.

But everyone will see me do it. They won't. This is the secret. The audience

distracted. How?

Banjo. He's banging cymbals together.

Banjo, we get the idea.

While the audience is still watching Banjo, Snobs comes over to me and gives

the key.

Banjo keeps banging away and I undo the padlock.

Brilliant! We can't lose, especially if Ryan and Sam are only doing something

with shoes and socks.

We're going to beat the town kids on their own town's birthday.

Down the lift, Simon.

Down the lift, Dad.

That's my lift, Dad.

I'd wish you good luck for the dog show again this year, but I don't think

Princess is going to need it.

Thank you, Rachel.

Pity about them.

Pity about my mother.

My heart, my country, her pitiless blue sky.

When thick and hard around us, we see the cattle die.

But then the grey clouds gather and we can bless again the drumming of an army.

Roll up, roll up, roll up. Come see the amazing Toba, the man with the

asbestos throat.

Watch me breathe fire.

I will amaze and astound you with my death -defying feats. Roll up, roll up.

Come see the amazing Toba.

Shoes and socks?

Check. You know what to do.

It was a cinch.

What did you do? You'll find out.

And it was a cinch.

Told you. Welcome, everybody, to the Foundation Day Dog Parade. This will be

fourth trophy. If Princess doesn't win, Mum will just die.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, what I'm about to do will shock you, for I'm

cut a kid in half with this very sharp saw.

Tell us what you did.

You'll find out.

All I need is a volunteer.

What's your name?

Sam, you know that.

Shut up and get in the box.

Soon, ladies and gentlemen, you will see me cut this kid in half.

There's his head and there's his feet.

Hang on.

He's changed his shoes.

How'd he do that? What?

Well, when he got in the box, he was wearing normal old school shoes.

But now look at what he's wearing.

Right, right.

Sam seems to have changed his shoes in an awful hurry.

It's impossible.

Of course it is. How'd he do it?

I reckon these are what you're looking for.

Because those shoes are...

Thank you,

Mr Jones.

And just in case anyone thinks I'm a cheat, put on the blindfold.

I've got the key. Who cares? We need to put you to the padlocks. The key's not

going to fit.

Next,

Ross Bellingham and Princess.

Good luck.

The dog show had to be called off due to unforeseen circumstances, about which I

shall say no more.

The winner of the Young Entertainer Contest is Pia Freeman for her

interpretation of the Dorothy McKellar poem.

I'd like to thank Marion, who told me to sing a song because I'm a girl.

can't sing, so I learned to poem instead.

He won't be getting any of this $50.

I'd now like to call on Mrs Church to announce the winner of the Year 6 essay

competition.

I'd like the winner to read it out for us.

Abby Oakley?

Come up here, please.

Oh, and could Brooke Bellingham see me afterwards?

We obviously read the same magazine.

Well done.

I don't love living in Eden Beach because it's got a beautiful beach, or

houses, or because the weather's great.

I love living here because it's where my family is.

They're not perfect, and neither am I, but we do everything we can to try to

work out our differences and stick together.

It's also a place where I've found the best friend I've ever had.

He and his family don't live in any of the nice houses in town.

They live in old buses and caravans by the beach.

They're not perfect either, and they have their differences with the rest of

Eden Beach.

But, just like a family, I think it's our differences that make us more

interesting. And so maybe, as a town, we can try to work them out and stick

together.
