of the rest of his life.

I was on fire at the time, and
Vince didn't think so.

- I knew these two couldn't
get along.

- I never had any doubts

that I could be one of the best
in the business.

- It was pretty clear Ultimate
Warrior was no Hulk Hogan.

- Yeah, I know

I don't know what the [bleep]
to say.

I didn't say anything.

- It took on a life of its own.

- Hulkamania became boring.

- How could there not

be professional envy and
jealousy

between Hulk Hogan and the
Ultimate Warrior?

- Go [bleep] home.

- I told Vince, "Let me get
in the ring and break his legs."

[laughing]

- I am coming to end your
career.

- I don't know how much more
personal it can get.

- When two legends collide,

the rivalry stays pinned in our
minds forever.

This is where we break down the
legendary stories

behind the greatest rivalries
of all time.

- Eye to eye right here,
face to face.

- Today we're going to be
discussing the rivalry between

the immortal Hulk Hogan and the
Ultimate Warrior.

It's the late 80s.

Hulk Hogan is at the top of his
game,

been the king of the mountain
forever,

and here comes this man named
Ultimate Warrior.

- He'd run down to the ring as
fast as he could,

and he would just shake
the ropes.

And he looked like a real life
superhero.

- He was gigantic.

I remember me and all my
friends, like, going like,

"Whoa."

- As far as the rivalry goes,

that's one of my favorite

things I ever got to see
as a kid.

And a lot of times you'll hear
people like,

"Oh, I was a Hogan guy.

I was a Warrior guy."

I was not either.

- Didn't matter.

- It didn't matter.

- You know, we talked a lot
about Hogan on these shows.

You know, he went from the Giant
to Savage then to the Warrior.

I mean, that is as divergent a
group as you can possibly get.

And Hogan made it all look real.

Hogan was the one steering the
ship.

- From Venice Beach, California,

the Heavyweight Champion,

Hulk Hogan.

- Whenever you're in front
of an audience,

you got to make 'em believe.

The moment I go through the
curtains,

I believe I'm Hulk Hogan.

- Whatever Hulkamania was,

it was such an easy thing for
kids my age

to just find such joy in.

The right thing at the right
time.

- The training, the prayers and
the vitamins,

plus the 24 inch pythons.

- 24 inches

- Let me see that.

- Times all those Hulkamaniacs
equals victory.

- Hulk Hogan was by far the
single biggest star

and box office attraction

in the world of professional
wrestling.

- That's what you think.

- If you're going to compete
with somebody

for the number one spot

by design, you have to think,

"Here's why I'm better than that
person.

Here's why I deserve number one
better than he does.

Here's all the things he does as
number one

that I'm going to do better
than him."

- Dropping a big leg.

Over for the cover.

It's over.

- Well, it's the nature of the
beast.

If you don't have a leader

and you don't have people
nipping at his heels,

trying to take his
spot,

well, then there's not that
energy.

- In the 1980s, the WWE was
becoming the dominant force

in professional wrestling.

But you have to remember, there
were other territories

and promotions trying to find
their own next big thing.

- From Queens, New York

287 pounds.

The Dingo Warrior.

Working out.

Doing pushups with the Grappler.

- In Texas, there's the Dingo
Warrior-

- Head down like a sack.

- His real name is Jim Hellwig.

- It is a victory for the Dingo
Warrior.

- Jim Hellwig was a kid
who grew up

dirt poor in a trailer in
Indiana,

whose father left him at 11.

Who was there to teach him
to be a man?

Then Jim Hellwig goes to a gym

in order to build up his body

and have more self-esteem and
learn how to be a man.

- I knew that it would serve
me well

to make my body different
from everybody else,

like a comic book character that
just walked off the pages.

[yelling]

- WWE in 1987 was not ready for
Warrior.

- Drops the leg.

Cover that man.

One, two, three.

- No.

- We're smack dab in the middle
of the Hulkamania era,

but we're also a few years into
it now.

- Green Bay, Wisconsin.

They came up to me and said,

"You're going to go on TV
tonight."

- Ultimate Warrior making
his debut here.

- Take a look at that body.

- When I went to WWE,

I got to make this turn into
something.

If it doesn't, I don't want to
be a guy

who just works on the card
every night.

And that's how it all started

and it just took off
from there.

- Is this guy impressive?

The answer, yes

[humming]

- When I first saw the Ultimate
Warrior gimmick,

I thought it was brilliant.

His colors were brighter than
mine, which made me jealous.

- The character got people up
out of their seats.

- Take a look at him.

Is he on fire or what?

- You know, the music,
the run to the ring,

the interviews that nobody could
understand.

- I saw the battle scars.

I saw the scars that run so deep
that only a man

The Ultimate Warrior knows
about.

- There are a lot of the
wrestlers were going,

"What's he talking about?

Is he crazy?"

- Underneath this paint,

there's many different colors,

and many different
personalities.

And you're going
to see all of 'em.

- He had a body that was just
chiseled out of stone.

They could have put his stomach
on Mount Rushmore.

Fans loved his energy.

He was electric.

- How are you going to stop
this guy?

- What kid doesn't want to be
that?

What kid doesn't want to

paint his face,

and look like that

and scream and yell and just
demolish people?

- Hulk Hogan had been on top
for years,

and at some point,

he had to be replaced

because Vince wants
to get out

of the Hulk Hogan business

while it's at its hottest,

not when
it's on the decline.

- I kind of watched where Vince
was placing him on the card,

and then I'd watch how Vince
would put people around him

to see if he could hold up.

So I noticed Vince was getting
ready to push him.

- This contest is for the
Intercontinental Championship.

- The Intercontinental
Championship was a title

just below the World Heavyweight
Championship,

so it was not Hulk Hogan's
title,

but it was a very
important title

that sort of indicated who the
next big superstar was.

- That's familiar music,
brother.

- They've exploded here in the
Garden.

I don't see anybody yet.

- Oh, no.

- It's The Ultimate Warrior.

- One man.

[bell rings]

- Ultimate attack.

- This place has gone bananas.

- 'Cause that's what they were
looking for.

For the Warrior to take that
next step.

- Ultimate Warrior exploding
here on the Honky Tonk Man.

Beautiful flying tackle.

- Even as a kid watching

this guy is heading towards the
top of the mountain.

- Right now Gorilla Monsoon.

Right now, brother, we can get
a new champion.

I'm here to tell you.

- Big splash, hooks the leg.

He got it.

History has been made here.

- I never had any doubts that by
that point that I could be one

of the best in the business.

- The new Intercontinental
champion, The Ultimate Warrior.

- The speed of Ultimate Warrior
getting over

is pretty unprecedented.

They knew what they had with the
Ultimate Warrior,

and they knew they needed to get
him to that next level.

- It is now time for the Royal
Rumble.

- It's the Hulkster

- The Royal Rumble is this
pivotal event for the WWE.

It's this chaos, this mass of
bodies in the ring.

- Shawn Michaels eliminated
by the Warrior

and Rick Martel eliminated by
the Warrior

Look at this.

Look at this.

- My God.

- Hulk Hogan and the Warrior.

- That moment is the beginning
of the rivalry

between Hulk Hogan and the
Ultimate Warrior.

- There is not a person sitting
down.

Everyone on his feet.

Look at the eyes of the
Hulkster.

- That's why he was this main
event player.

And he actually wanted this guy
to replace Hulk Hogan.

- Whoa.

What a match up this
is going to be.

And nobody had him
prepared for that.

- The Ultimate Warrior and Hulk
Hogan one on one.

- Hulkster's down.

He missed a clothesline.

- Oh, but they clotheslined each
other.

- The Royal Rumble.

Hogan versus the
Ultimate Warrior.

You wouldn't think you'd see
them together.

- I remember being a kid
watching this going,

"Okay, what's going to happen?"

But you never thought that him
and Hogan would face

because they were both babyfaces
and at the time,

that didn't happen.

- The double team to Warrior

Here comes Hogan.

Hogan eliminates the Warrior.

- Hogan had a lot of longevity,
and he had been there a minute

and he had kind of I wouldn't
say run his course, but

on paper, Warrior feels like the
shiny new toy.

He would be a great replacement
for Hogan.

- Hulk Hogan.

- It was an easy sell,

that this young lion is going to
take over the old lion,

if I'm not on my game.

It was a no brainer to put us
together.

There's an unbeatable tag team
that's been formed.

Hulk Hogan and the Ultimate
Warrior.

- Sometimes with an amazing
rivalry, you end up getting,

you know, an amazing tag team
out of it.

- When the two strongest forces

were on opposite sides of
the fence,

we almost tore the
building down.

Now the two strongest forces are
teamed up as one.

- The common bond is stronger
than anything.

- And Genius goes up and down.

The Warrior tagged by the
Hulkster.

The Warrior knocking Perfect
out of the ring.

Hulk Hogan drops the leg.

Hulk Hogan covering the Genius.

Two three.

That man does it.

- Everyone in the industry

was in awe because the writing
was on the wall.

- Warrior just leveling man
after man, after-

- Oh, he clotheslined Hogan.

I knew these two couldn't get
along.

- WWE was going to go all the
way with The Ultimate Warrior.

I think even Hogan knew it.

- The Body's never wrong.

Look at the egos in the ring.

- And it crossed your mind.

"Oh my God, are these guys going
to square off?"

- There's always a hero and a
villain.

It just-

You didn't get to heroes at the
top of their game

going toe to toe, ever.

And so it was such a unique
experience,

and it forced you to pick sides.

- I mean, I was on fire at the
time.

And then Vince said,

"Ah, I really don't think you
are anymore.

I think the red and yellow
thing

starting to get a little
boring."

So at that point, I knew that
every dog has his day.

- As a result of them seeing
each other and almost fighting

over and over again,

it just built this anticipation.

What will it look like when they
finally throw a punch?

- Here I was, out there on the
road, really getting over.

- He explodes into an arena and
sends his warriors

into a supercharged frenzy.

- Hulk is hearing it, you know.

- Please welcome the man
known as The Ultimate Warrior.

- Hulk Hogan has been

the greatest champion there
has ever been,

but I have not yet been.

- The rivalry behind the scenes
was huge.

No torch gets passed easily in
this industry.

- Hulk Hogan.

- It can get heated quickly and
it can get ugly quickly,

and it Took on a life of its
own.

- On April 1st, WrestleMania.

At this time I am happy to
announce the main event

in which champion Hulk Hogan

will meet the Intercontinental
Champion,

The Ultimate Warrior.

- In three, two-

- Mr. Hogan, are you prepared to
sign at this time?

- How could there not be
professional envy and jealousy

between Hulk Hogan and the
Ultimate Warrior?

- Ultimate Warrior,

you don't realize what this
means to me

and all my Hulkamaniacs.

That dark cloud, the darkness
that you live in.

Once you sign, this is where
you're going to remain.

- The Ultimate Warrior was
designed to replace Hulk Hogan.

How could Hulk Hogan not resent
that?

- Hulkamania is still the
strongest force in the universe.

- Hulk Hogan wanted to stay
number one.

- What lies before us

in the Heavyweight Championship
of the world

and the Intercontinental
Championship of the world,

are nothing but normal
representations

of why there are followers,

and why there are
leaders such as us.

- Instead of Hogan looking at me
and saying.

You know, being wiser from the
business and looking at me and

saying,"This is- going to be
an incredible thing

this WrestleMania."

Hogan would rather [bleep]
up the beauty

of the whole thing overall.

Look into my eyes Hulk Hogan.

You see nothingness.

In other words, not offer any
suggestions or advice

whatsoever, whether to be my
character

or to talk like I'm talking now.

I will take the powers of those
that question.

I will take the powers of those
that have no fear.

As I take two and become one.

- He had unlimited potential,
but he wasn't ready.

The guy with experience is
going to win.

Sign.

- The Warrior was wound pretty
tight that day.

- All right, testing.

I am with the Intercontinental
Champion.

- More than usual,
but it's pretty obvious why

it was the biggest day
of his life.

- You are nothing, but a normal.

You don't deserve to breathe the
same air

that I and Hulk Hogan do.

The most vivid thing I remember
is, is that when they came and

told me that they had carts to
take us to the ring.

I said, Vince, "I'm running to
the ring."

He turned to the two guys.

He said, "You heard him, boys.

He's running into the ring."

♪

It's a long [bleep]
way to the ring man.

- Ladies and gentlemen,
this is the main-

- I think we all knew that night

when The Ultimate Warrior ran
out to the ring,

that this was
the end of an era.

- Champion against champion.

Title for title.

This is what it's all about.

Eye to eye right here.

Face to face.

Both still with their respective
titles.

- Two biggest names in our
company at the time,

both of them standing toe to
toe.

And let's see what's going to
happen.

So it gives me chills talking
about it now.

- And it was just electric.

It was so loud.

- We're going to get a test of
strength here

[yelling]

- And then when we walk up I
just remember.

[breathing deeply]

He was completely blown.

The nerves had gotten to him.

- WrestleMania 6.

That feeling of like, "Wow, this
really happened."

- Well, then you hear the story
from Hulk.

Warrior looks at Hogan and says,
"Let's go," because he's gassed.

- We'll see if one man can break
the other man down.

- And it says a lot about Hogan
for not burying him right there,

because he could have.

he could have buried Warrior,
but instead

he carried him.

- Warriors got those knuckles
turned over

And the Hulkster is
slowly falling to his knees.

He's down.

- Wow.

- Once I get him to calm down,
he listened and did everything

I told him to do,

and it made him look like a
million dollars.

- There goes the Warrior and a
scoop slam.

- Wow.

- Hogan had been the guy for
years.

He was the white tiger.

- Oh, look at that.

A slam by the Warrior.

- Every move, even if it's a
move you see on TV every week,

seem to mean something.

- Clothesline and a beauty.

And now he's down.

- It was a great match, man.

I mean, the whole match was just
the chemistry of it was awesome.

- Oh he's going for a suplex.

- Oh he got it.

Goes for the cover, two no.

- My God, they had about
50 false finishes.

- Here's the third attempt.

No, no, no,

- People were just
totally wrung out.

- Both of them fighting like
champions,

but there can be only one
winner.

- Hulkster with a roundhouse,

and the Warriors backing up.

- Got him with the boot.

- Oh, he nailed him.

- Here it is.

He-

- Oh he moved out of the way.

Look out.

The big splash.

One, two.

He got him.

- He got him.

- Unbelievable.

- The Warrior has won the title.

- When Warrior won against Hogan
at WrestleMania,

I mean, that was the ultimate.

I was jealous.

- This wasn't a fluke win.

This was a win.

And now The Ultimate Warrior era
was about to begin.

- Look at the hush silence going
over the crowd.

- They don't know what the
Hulkster is going to do,

and neither do I.

- I think he knew we

accomplished something
very special

because it was right.

- Oh, look at this.

Hulk presented the belt and
raised the hand of the Warrior.

- But yeah he just said,
"Hey man, I love you.

Thank you for everything."

- You know that old saying about
that it's-

it's not the destination.

It's the journey
is true for me.

I was so emotional after it
happened,

but within a day or two I was
thinking "What's next?"

- I just can't convey to you how
shocked people were

that he didn't retain his-
his title.

He was devastated by that loss.

- You will feel the full fury of
The Ultimate Warrior.

- The feeling was
that Ultimate Warrior

had the look,
had the charisma.

The only way you're ever going
to find out if somebody else

can fill the shoes
of someone else

is to put them in those shoes.

- The Ultimate Warrior.

- It was obvious
watching him

that he felt the pressure

There was just sometimes he
was just really on edge.

- Warrior trying to
build up the power.

- And you still had Hogan-

was, Hogan was still there.

- Well, we're not here to
wrestle today.

We're here to have fun.

Merry Christmas.

- It was pretty clear that

Ultimate Warrior was no
Hulk Hogan.

- Man, I'd like to get my hands
on an Ultimate Warrior and wipe

that paint off his face and see
what he really looks like.

- Once he was no longer in
pursuit of the title.

There didn't seem to be the same
level of interest

in The Ultimate Warrior.

- I walk into this battle as the
ultimate champion.

I walk away as the ultimate
victor.

- The Ultimate Warrior had held
the WWE Championship

for less than a year,

when the WWE decided it was time
to take the title off of him.

- You simply looked at business.

Business wasn't as good

with Ultimate Warrior as
champion as it was

with Hulk as champion

The winner of this bout and new
champion

Sgt. Slaughter.

- The audience still loved Hulk,

and the fact that Hulk lost

the audience felt that
they needed to be behind Hulk

to get him back
to where he was.

- No, no.

- Hulkster up, leg drop.

- The cover.

He got him.

- He done it.

- What a comeback.

- This is the moment

when the jealousy
of The Ultimate Warrior

about the man he was supposed
to replace

really started to simmer.

- I'll never forget we had an
early, early flight,

and this little kid comes up to
him and,

you know, ask him if he was
The Ultimate Warrior,

like he snaps on this little
kid.

I was like, "Whoa."

- The WWE demanded that the
Ultimate Warrior

tape an apology
to that boy.

- But not in the warrior's
character.

- What-what, I mean
I'm humbly apologizing,

but I'm not saying what I'm
humbly apologizing for.

- That's right.

- I know what the gimmicks for
but I mean, what's it for?

I understand that there comes
times in everyone's life

when they may regret certain
things [bleep]

or regret certain things
that they should this [bleep]

Yeah, I know, I don't know what
the [bleep] to say.

I didn't say nothing to the
[bleep] kid.

- I think that apology
broke something in the Warrior.

- [bleep] me.

- 24 hours after Warrior taped
this apology.

Warrior decided to write a
letter to WWE management,

"Writing, this is a different
approach.

I have been from day one,
different from the others.

I meant as much or more to that
show as Hulk.

I deserve to be paid the same.

I know what Hulk will get and
until then, I remain home."

- He basically says, "I'm not
going to have my match tonight

unless you give me $550,000."

So they acquiesce, at least on
paper in the moment,

and make promises to get through
that event.

- So at SummerSlam,
you had

Sergeant Slaughter
teaming with The Iron Sheik

against the team of Warrior
and Hogan.

- Here's a man who has virtually
gone through hell

in recent weeks,
The Ultimate Warrior.

- The ultimate bad guys against
the ultimate good guys.

- Are we loaded down, Hulkster?

- Loaded.

- Loaded down.

Ready to go down into the pit.

- You don't get any more
unprofessional

than calling up and threaten a
promoter and hold him up.

And The Ultimate Warrior was
nobody when he came to the WWE.

- What an ovation for The
Ultimate Warrior.

- That's as bad as it gets.

That's unforgivable.

- Is he ready?

- Yes.

- Yes, but can he be trusted?

- And you know what that does?

That puts you in unchartered
territory.

Now, we don't know what he's
really capable of doing.

I told Vince, "Let me get him in
the ring and break his legs."

- 1991 SummerSlam.

Both Warrior and Hulk Hogan are
on the card,

and there's some problems.

- Warrior threatened not to go
on for the show,

and that's something you just
don't do.

- Devil's advocate over here-

Benefit of the doubt.

When you're told you're
him, you're him, you're him,

you're him, you're him.

Maybe it's easy to start to
believe it.

- I told Vince, "Let me get him
in the ring and break his legs."

You know, which was-

not correct.

It's not who I am now.

It's- I guess that's who I was
back then

- And Vince went,

"Whoa whoa whoa whoa.

I don't need a lawsuit on top
of all this.

Just do the match."

- During the match, Warrior
grabs a chair

and then runs backstage.

And that's when Vince McMahon
hands the Warrior

his own letter.

"Hulk Hogan is a living legend.

He is more popular than you.

He has more years in the ring
than you,

and is in greater demand than
you.

You have become a living legend
in your own mind."

- Hulk Hogan with a leg drop.

That'll do it.

And the one, two, three.

- Where did the Warrior go?

- Sure must be one hell of a
fight going on back there

in the locker rooms.

- Warrior was then suspended
indefinitely from WWE.

- And that was the end of The
Ultimate Warrior,

or so we thought.

- It's two against one.

They're taking him out one way
or the other.

This is it for Hulk Hogan.

- Wait a minute.

- What?

That's the Warrior's music.

- It's The Ultimate Warrior.

- It is.

- Look at that him.

- The Ultimate Warrior.

- The decibel level on that
thing.

It was like the freaking roof
was really going to come

off of that place.

I mean, my feet just felt-

it felt like I wasn't even
touching the ground.

It was- I'll never forget it.

And I talked about that with
Hogan one time.

I could tell by the way his
eyes, the look in his eyes,

what he did, the way he shifted
his eyes, he knew.

- The Ultimate Warrior has
come to help Hulk Hogan.

- It was just so freaking loud.

The loudest pop I ever heard in
my whole freaking life.

- For WWE fans, seeing the
Ultimate Warrior and Hulk Hogan

back in the ring together again
was a magical moment.

Unfortunately, it didn't last.

A year later, Warrior was gone
again from the WWE.

- The audience that was 5,
10, 15 years old

when Warrior was at his hottest,

had moved on to be obsessed
with other things

besides The Ultimate Warrior.

Larger than larger than life
characters were being replaced

by authentic, extreme
characters.

The mid 1990s was built on an
anti-hero counterculture

environment that even resented
Hulk Hogan.

- That's the man that packs
the gold right there

- And packs the arenas.

- Vince was moving in a
different direction,

and Vince was moving to-to
younger wrestlers at the time,

and it was like a youth
movement, basically.

And I just wasn't finished yet
and I went down to WCW.

These people out here,

after I led their children down
the right path,

had the gall to boo Hulk Hogan
one more time.

You fans can stick it, brother.

- The fans still admire Hulk
Hogan,

and his turn into a villain
is brilliant.

He's Hollywood Hogan now.

[nWo's music]

- It's 1998.

Hogan and WCW President Eric
Bischoff

are involved in a heated ratings
war with the WWE.

- Eric came to me and said,

"Uh, there's an opportunity to
grab the Warrior.

Can you work with him and will
you work with him?"

I said, "Yes, you know, um,
there's money to be made.

Let's make it."

There's not a war that I can't
win.

And there's not a warrior in the
world that I can't beat.

- What is this?

Look at the face of-
his bottom lip is quivering.

- Oh my goodness.

- Oh, yeah.

The fans recognize him, and so
does Hogan.

And

- Oh.

- And so do we.

In all my years, I never
believed I would ever see this.

Unmistakable.

It's the Warrior.

- Now I have to beat him.

- Feel the real power.

Hogan.

- Moving forward to the summer
of 1998, we are now, uh,

watching Monday Nitro and, uh,
who reemerges?

But a man by the name of
Warrior.

And he confronted Hulk Hogan.

- Confronted him.

And talked-

a lot.

- As the victor of that one time
battle.

I defeated what was until then,
undefeatable.

- They just stuck him out there
without a safety net

and let him do his own thing.

- The Warriors have waited all
too patiently.

- Yeah, I was just like,
"Wow, this is horrifying."

- The very first time Warrior
showed up on television.

I knew-
that night

that it wasn't going to be a
long term relationship.

- You were great.

I was ultimate.

- And Eric was standing next to
me in the ring.

Eric was out of his mind over
it.

- Beating you means nothing
anymore.

Everybody already has.

- This is live television now.

I started to feel the sweat run
down the back of my head

because we'd already missed a
commercial break.

Cut him off.

Somebody cut him off.

- But he just went on forever
with a bunch of gibberish.

- Your mind became weak and
Hulkamania became boring.

- Killed the rest of the show.

- Same Warrior time,

same Warrior place,

same Warrior channel.

We tried a lot of things

to keep that matchup
exciting and interesting.

- We cannot wait till these two
men finally go at it, again.

- And it's just all of it
sucked.

- He's going for something.

Hogan's got something.

- I, uh, screwed that match up.

- I have no idea what that is.

- I had the fireball paper,

I was in the corner when he
went to grab me.

I went to light the fireball
paper and throw it,

and for somehow the lighter
misfired.

And then when I hit it the
second time,

it blew up in my face.

- Is that like a fireball or
something

that he attempted to throw at
the Warrior.

- That was probably one of the
worst matches I've ever had.

- Hogan wins the match.

- They used Turner's checkbook
to buy me to come back,

to lose a match to Hulk.

It was repulsive to me when I
finally realized it.

- The Warrior has served his
purpose,

and Hogan and the Warrior can
again go their separate ways,

which they inevitably did.

- In the years that followed,

incredibly, Hulk Hogan would go
back to the WWE.

He'd go toe to toe with the
Rock.

He would even become a champion
one last time.

- Hogan won.

- My God, my God, he's done it.

- While Hogan was doing all
this,

Warrior was trying to
find himself

and his place in
the world.

- Warrior, frankly, garnered a
lot of controversy,

and videos would come
up on the internet

of him saying
inappropriate things.

- Come on, I've been in all the
top locker rooms in the business

and listen to the guys whine and
moan and bitch.

- During the production of a DVD
on The Ultimate Warrior.

The WWE interviewed a bunch of
the wrestlers who had worked

with the Warrior,

and those stories weren't
exactly flattering.

- Let's just get through this,
move on,

and then you just realize the
brother just doesn't get it.

- So the self-destruction of the
Ultimate Warrior was

what everyone had been saying
for so long-

behind the scenes.

Without a doubt, Jim Hellwig
has a very big problem

distinguishing himself from
The Ultimate Warrior.

I don't think Jim Hellwig really
knows who Jim Hellwig is.

It was uncomfortable, but
honest.

- You know, it hurt my feelings
a lot, man.

It hurt me.

It-it that they did that.

So it hurt on one level,

and on another level it made me
want to fight back.

- Litigation had gone back and
forth with WWE and Warrior.

- This tape number two, the
continued videotaped deposition

of Terry Bollea.

- I remember
getting subpoenaed,

and it was really bad because
he was sitting there.

He didn't give me a heads up, so
it was ugly.

- Would you agree that the
promotion put a lot of effort

to promote him to be as big of
star as he could be?

- I just basically stuck to
telling the truth,

and it wasn't pretty.

He got, uh, one of the biggest
pushes I've ever seen.

- And were you aware that once
he got to be a main eventer,

that he was demanding
to be treated the same as you?

- Um, I've heard rumors about
that.

- He didn't turn out to have the
staying power in the business

that you have had, did he?

- No, sir.

- In fact, you could say,

it was somewhat of a flash in
the pan, couldn't ya?

- In my opinion?

- Yes

- Yes.

- It probably hurts the most
coming from Hogan,

the guy you shared your biggest
moments with.

Well, there had to have been
real life-

- Animosity

- -animosity.

- Oh, it was huge.

- Warrior man here.

Getting ready
to get started in my studio,

and I want to do-

do that video.

- You had to see this interview
by, you know, uh,

The Ultimate Warrior
about Hulk Hogan.

- You have a long running
reputation for being a liar

and a fraud and a phony.

I do own a piece of your
psyche.

- And I started watching it, and
I actually had to turn it off

because it was making me sick.

- I mean it's not your hair.

Those are extensions, man.

[laughing]

- I've never seen anything like
this before.

- Hulkamania and negativity

go together like peanut butter
and jelly.

Go [bleep] home.

Go home.

You're not a good or decent
human being, Terry,

because you don't have a brain,

you don't have a heart,

and you have absolutely no
[bleep] courage.

- The lawyers have called me
to ask if

I wanted to do a cease and
desist, you know,

this-this is defamation.

I said, "Look, just, it all just
go away, just,

Just let it go."

- Closure is an incredibly
important part of life.

- Hey, everybody.

- People go through all
different things.

18 years is a long time to be
distanced from something.

that love so much.

- I never done it.

- I'm happy for Warrior that
he was able to go through

the process, the healing process
that he did.

- I am Warrior.

The Ultimate Warrior is a legend
and The Ultimate Warrior fans,

you are legendary.

- And the next day I was hosting
WrestleMania

and I saw this guy in the
hallway

with a three piece suit
on.

And as we rode by, I went,
"Oh, stop. It's the Warrior."

- I know you are brother.

I'm sorry for all the bad
[bleep] that's happened.

- That's good that you
acknowledge it.

It's all good brother,
it's all good.

- Just, you know, hurt
for some, you know, to be in the

business and be a part of it and
then just go a different

direction to sort of get beat up
and-

kicked like a dog just because
I did that, you know?

- It freaked me out
because I felt like I put my

hand on like 120 year old
grandmother.

He was so thin and frail.

You know, I'm used to grabbing
him in the ring.

You know, I just tell you
honestly from the heart.

You're a great man, a good man,
a good person, and I love you.

And I just hope, you know,
someday we can just, you know.

- I accept your apology, man.

- Thank you, my brother.

- I accept your apology.

- Lotta stuff was said back and
forth.

It was wrong, you know?

People make
mistakes and-

- They do and I made some, too.

- I was sorry for what happened.

Thank you sir.

- Thanks Hulk.

And I wanted him to know that no
matter what he thought about me,

I wanted him to hear that coming
out of my mouth.

- Thanks Hulk.

- I think it was a power moment
in professional wrestling.

- Every man's heart one day
beats its final beat.

His lungs breathe their final
breath.

- He was predicting what he
already knew.

- And if what that man did in
his life makes the blood pulse

through the body of others, his
spirit will be immortalized.

- Jim Hellwig needed the Warrior
to get through life.

- You are The Ultimate Warrior
fans.

- So when he was accepted back
into the family,

he had nothing left to hate.

- And the spirit of Ultimate
Warrior will run forever.

- I walked up behind him and I
leaned into his ear and I said,

"This whole process was worth it
for that."

- Some sad news from the WWE

- A Wrestler who was recently
inducted into

the Hall off Fame has passed
away,

James Hellwig.

Known to wrestling fans

as The Ultimate Warrior,
he died at the age of 54.

- He collapsed outside a hotel
in Arizona.

- Officials calling the death
sudden and catastrophic.

- I was just shocked.

We all were.

But Warrior went out in the
biggest way he possibly could.

He had closure from
relationships that had gone bad

or soured, and I'm so happy for
him

that they had the opportunity to
experience that.

- You couldn't have written it
any better in Hollywood to have

this come full circle and have
it end the way that it did.

- He gave his own eulogy.

- He did.

- The Ultimate Warrior and
Hulk Hogan one on one.

- This is definitely my favorite
rivalry.

Two people who I completely
idolized.

- This was a lot of people's
childhood.

They grew up idolizing Hulk
Hogan,

idolizing the Ultimate Warrior.

The last thing you want to do

is to see Clint Eastwood and
John Wayne fight.

- Both of them really embodied
that 80s era of larger than life

characters that you couldn't
forget.

- Are we loaded down, Hulkster?

- Loaded.

- You know, the bottom line of
this is it's a business.

And, you know, they did an
incredible business.

- Look out.

The big splash.

One, two.

He got em.

- The Warrior has won the title.

- I think he could have done so
much different.

I think Jim's a really good guy
who kind of got lost to doing

what he had to do to survive
back then, to doing what he

thought he had to do to survive
in the wrestling business.

- Your mind became weak and
Hulkamania became boring.

- I mean, I could have got in
there with him and walk him

through the ABCs and showed him
that this is not

an environment that's menacing.

These guys are all here to help
you and we depend on you.

The rivalry, it could have went
on forever.
