Iron Age warriors, both conquering

killers, but who fought with opposing
fighting styles.

A Celt, the battle -crazed ancestor of
the Scottish and Irish clans who would

later fight the British for freedom.

But in the centuries before Christ,
Dominated central Europe.

Versus a Persian immortal.

The elite special ops killer from what
is now Iran.

Driving force of a professional army.

That built the largest empire of the
ancient world.

It's an epic matchup of clashing battle
tactics.

Pitting exotic east against primitive
west.

Today's battle brings together two
warriors from opposite ends of the

Mediterranean, the Celts from Europe and
the Persian Immortals from the Near

East. For this classic one -on -one
battle, computer whiz Max Geiger will

weapons test data gathered by lead
scientist Jeff Day -Malin.

In this fight, a deadly new element is
featured.

This is the first time we've seen
chariots on this show. The added mass of

horses, the added velocity of the moving
chariot makes wielding that weapon even

more effective.

The lethality of the injuries will be
assessed by ER physician Armand Dorian.

Persian Immortals versus the Celts. I
don't really care about the small

I'm looking at things that are going to
stop someone's heart.

we need to do to get the job done.

We thought of war as a sport. We're
going to demolish the Persian Immortals.

As the first iron workers in Europe, the
Celts ushered in the Iron Age.

This new technology helped them conquer
much of Europe by 500 BC.

In 390 BC, Gallic Celts even sacked
early Rome.

Like North America's native tribes, they
weren't united by a single empire.

Instead, hundreds of Celtic clans
settled across Europe, sharing a similar

language and a passion for conquering
their enemy's land.

The Celtic warriors were known to fight
naked, and there was nothing that was

going to stop them. Celts fought with a
raging heart on.

You know, the look on was absolutely
terrifying.

Very strong, very muscular.

They wore their hairs long and wild.

They were just total barbarians. Just
crazy.

They wanted to show their enemy that
they were crazy about killing them.

The Persian immortal experts believe
their ancestors are deadlier.

The immortals are going to make
mincemeat out of the kelp. A direct

The Persian Immortal were the special
forces of the ancient world. They were

were the immortals, an elite force of

10 ,000 soldiers.

The Persian immortals were called
immortals because they never left dead

on the battlefield, so their enemies
actually never saw a dead immortal.

But also, more importantly, any time
somebody did die, another warrior would

step up and fill that ring, so the
number was always 10 ,000 strong.

So how would the Persian Empire's battle
-hardened enforcer fare?

Against a wild -eyed rampaging Celt.

I'm going to go with the Persian
Immortals on this one. They're more

disciplined. They're a more elite
warrior.

Anybody with a nickname Immortal, how
can I go against them?

I've got to give this one to the Celt
Warrior.

They're larger in size. They're more
agile.

These guys are nuts.

The Celts combine brute strength with a
mastery of metalwork.

And their signature weapon could sever
limbs with a single swipe.

The longsword.

Three brutal feet of razor -sharp iron.

The Celtic sword had a rounded point. It
was great for cutting and slashing and

causing horrific damage.

The Celts would wield this round their
head, cutting across to the opposite

of the knee and trying to hit all the
major arteries in the process.

The preferred method of guaranteeing a
longsword kill.

Decapitation.

They would collect the heads, hang them
on their horses, chariots, in front of

their homes as a sign of victory.

And to possess a man's head is to
possess a magical power.

Can the killed longsword really
decapitate a human head?

So, Francis, what this is going to do is
an inertial sensor.

It basically tells me where that sword
is in three -dimensional space.

I can track your swing and get the speed
in.

The target, a gel torso with the same
consistency as human flesh and bone.

Francis, you ready?

Ready.

Quite effective.

Francis, man, 78 miles an hour on that.
Yeah. Wow.

There is a role for a doctor here, but
here I'm a pathologist.

This is, without a doubt, the strongest
swing I've seen. That is intense work.

It's a nice sword. It's a great swing.
But that's a dummy. It's not moving

around. You're taking a two -handed
swing. We have an answer for that sword.

This is an armored professional soldier.

That was just like butter, and I think
it'll probably... Well, that may be

butter, but this is metal.

And the Celtic longsword cut through
Persian armor made of laminated leather.

and overlapping scales of iron and
bronze.

The TechScan pressure mat will measure
the sword's impact.

You can see the cut. It's going through
the nose, probably through the zygoma,

the cheekbones, right under the eye
socket.

And it cuts through into the brain. This
is an instant kill.

This is horrible.

I don't think we've seen a cleaner cut
with a weapon. But it's just never going

to happen. He and his chariot will never
get that close to us. And if he does

get close, we will kill him before he
can actually reach with that sword. That

predecessor of Irish and Scottish

clans, who fought with the rage of a
psychopathic killer.

Bottom line, the Celtic warriors deliver
fatal, deadly blows.

We're going for the insta -kill every

The Persian Immortals were the most
disciplined soldiers of their day. All

did was eat, train, fight, sleep.

That's it. Fight on a daily basis.

When these two warriors face off,
they'll each bring an arsenal of deadly

-8 weapons.

Our Persian Immortal brings the Blood

Celt experts have already demonstrated
the lethal power of their head -chopping

longsword. The Celt's longsword was
impressive.

What makes this one different is it's
wielded by a man who has arms the size

most people's legs.

But the Persian immortal experts think
their wicked short -range weapon will

chop the biggest Celt down to size.

The Sigaris.

A badass battle act, with an armor
-piercing tip on one side and a flesh

-cleaving blade on the other.

The way this weapon was designed was
almost sort of like a pendulum. It gets

plenty of force just coming down, and it
pierces through almost anything. It can

go through armor, and it will go inside
their flesh.

So we've got our ballistic gel torso set
up. That's going to be the kelch you

guys are up against. I want to see
maximum damage. I want to see the full

capabilities of this weapon.

Cyrus, you ready?

I'm ready.

man.

The beauty of this is it gets to the
bottom.

It's not an instant kill, but this is a
really, let's say, way to go.

So the kilts, what do you have to
counter against something like this?

You know, big leather belt that would
cover all our internal organs. As well

our iron coolers, which is our helmet,
and our iron rim shields as well. Okay,

well, I'm smelling another test here.

Kilt armor versus a cigar.

Some of the kelts fought nearly naked
with just enough armor to ward off the

most lethal strikes.

But he didn't need much armor.

He wanted to be fast and agile.

All right, guys, we have an iron
culisse. We have an iron shield and our

shield that can fall away, a little
girdle over there, and a tin cap.

A pressure mat beneath the helmet will
measure the force generated by a

strike. Anything over 81 PSI or
penetration into that pressure mat is

a skull fracture.

How's that for Celtic armor?

You pin the sensor. It maxes out at 323
PSI, so we can safely say this is a

skull fracture.

What's more important, this is going
right into that frontal lobe, changing

guy's personality.

This is definite death. This is the hard
way to do a lobotomy.

into the brain. Frontal lobe, kill.
Let's look at the belt.

It goes through, but this is not a kill.

But the question here wasn't that. The
question I think here was, would it go

through the belt? And it looks like it
does go through the belt. Those hits

would have never even happened in the
first place because your first load got

stuck in the belt. You gave about four
to five seconds while you're struggling

to pull it out while you're squashing
your head like a grape. Both of our

are confident of victory.

But which has the superior short -range
weapon?

The Celtic longsword versus the immortal
Segaris.

Both were very impressive, but when you
really look at it, that Celtic

longsword, he was able to cause
significant trauma on that ballistics

and then the icing on the cake was the
way he was able to use it on the

In short -range weapons, the edge goes
to the Celtic longsword.

But each of these warriors brings a
special factor that can't be measured in

single stat.

For the Celt, his X -Factor is a
willingness to do anything to gain a

psychological edge against his enemy.

Hell was long and wild. You'd be
screaming, roaring around the battle.

These people would go at you. They'd
grapple you, wrestle you, strike you.

But the Persian are mortal.

Killer of the Spartan 300 at the famous
Battle of Thermopylae brings his own egg

factor. An entire life devoted to war.

As the king's personal guard, they were
treated like racehorses of their days.

They were given the best that anybody
could ask for in the entire Persian

Empire.

Combat was choreographed from the first
kill to the last drop of blood.

They would be given cadences via drums
and trumpets, when to draw their bows.

when to draw their spears, when to draw
their swords. Everything was a very well

-disciplined and well -rehearsed
routine.

But will the Persians' precision combat
skills be enough to stop a rampaging

count?

Coming up, both sides thrust their most
piercing weapons.

Who will be the deadliest warrior?

A headhunting plant man from Europe.

A Persian immortal.

A highly trained soldier who conquered
the Middle East.

Two Iron Age warriors destined for a
deadly collision.

Celts, by their nature, are very large.
And going up against a Persian immortal,

it would be like matching up a
heavyweight with a lightweight.

Let's take a look at what the Celts
really are.

They're not trained troops.

They're not a professional army like the
Persian immortal.

Professional or not, Celts are coming at
the Persians with all they've got,

including one nasty flesh ripper.

The lancea, a gut -shredding spear when
thrust, is more lethal when thrown.

We've got a lancea. You'll notice the
tip here, it's wavy. Excellent for

cutting, especially once it went in,
more so when it come out.

Yeah, that's an interesting pattern. I
mean, as these high portions are

making contact with the body, the low
portions aren't. So it's presenting less

friction to the body, making your job
easier.

Repairing something like this is a lot
more difficult because the edges don't

match up real well. It's going to be a
lot more apparent than just a straight

triangular type of blade.

Ted Solan says his ability to kill from
a distance.

A peacock with a resistance similar to
human flesh.

We've got two moving shields
representing a Persian immortal defense

your target is actually in behind.
That's the pig.

Are you ready to get going? Oh, I'm
ready.

The glancing blow rips a savage wound in
the target, but it's not

a kill. I don't think it's that big of a
deal.

Guts on the floor, man.

I mean, this is ridiculously impressive.

You actually speared right through and
probably could have hit a couple of more

pigs. When you transect the body like
this, you're going to hit something

important and you're going to kill. I
don't know. It looks like a pretty heavy

weapon. You'd have to be in real close
and the guy's going to be running

He's going to be dodging. And Francis's
hand looked like a toothpick. And you

throw it away.

You're going to need somebody to bring
five lances for you. We're the masters

the Iron Age. We have so much at our
disposal. You're only carrying one.

on the battlefield.

The lance's wicked blade does horrific
damage.

But our Persian experts think they have
a superior technique and a superior

weapon. The Persian spear.

A sinister skewer guaranteed to nail an
enemy to the gates of hell.

The leaf -shaped spear, it's very thick,
it's very broad.

The other side of it, It has a ball head
on it. This can also be used as a

clubbing instrument.

So the spear can be swung around,
crushing through helmets, armor, light

heavy shield. It's lethal.

Lethal in the hands of an immortal foot
soldier.

It was also used in horse -drawn carrier
assaults.

It's one thing to have a man on two feet
thrusting into a body.

But now you've got two horses. It's
obviously going to give you a lot more

and a lot more velocity with the moving
horses. The kelp that's standing on the

ground is also going to be distracted by
the horse, the chariot, not to get run

over, what's coming. So I'm going to be
thinking only about him. He's going to

be thinking about roughly 1 ,500 to 2
,000 pounds of trouble right here. Okay,

that's awesome.

We've got two targets set up. We'll be
testing accuracy and damage. Let's go

kill some kelps.

Yeah, this is a perfect kill shot. This
is a carotid artery. Internal and

external jugular veins are all lacerated
here.

You bleed out from this pretty darn
quick. 10, 15 seconds, he'll pass out,

the floor, and then he'll bleed to
death.

The speed of that chariot coupled with
the thrust was way higher than any

throwing spear, so this is way more
damaging. And you hit him straight in

throat. The second target is in even
worse shape. Right in the heart, man.

The Celt would have to be blind and deaf
and armless with no weapons to inflict

a wound this bad.

Actions speak louder than words,
gentlemen.

We're going to stick that right through
your heart, baby.

And we don't lose our weapons.

We can just continue on that field,
tiring you guys out enough to make you

scatter, and then we just pop, pop, pop,
kick you guys off just like this.

We don't scatter, we charge. You're
referring to warfare tactics that we

imply.

Dead accuracy there. Look at that. Oh,
God.

Through his jaw, through his throat.

Look how lethal that is. Here's the
second strike. Again, dead accuracy.

hitting straight to the heart. This is
how to kill. This is what you want to

demonstrate with your weapon, accuracy
and lethality, and you're doing it.

So which is the better killer?

The Celtic lancea thrown from a distance
or a Persian spear thrust from a

charging chariot?

The Celtic lancea caused...

significant amount of trauma i mean the
laceration was huge there would be a lot

of bleeding most likely would cause a
kill but you're getting multiple uses

of that persian spear it's made so that
you can stick and move stick and move

and using that off a chariot is even
more impressive so i have to give it to

persian spear in mid -range weapons the
immortal take the edge with a persian

spear the kelp still think they have
enough muscle to beat back any persian

Persian Immortal versus Kilt.

Two deadly warriors with opposite
fighting styles.

The Persian Immortals believe in order
in combat.

If you have order, you work together,
you fight together, and you can decimate

an enemy very easily.

The Kilt, they just command it with just
chaos.

And you've got a screaming huge guy with
long hair flying about, roaring, coming

at you, naked.

You're going to down tools, you're going
to be on it, Charlie, and you're going

to be heading over that hill.

The Celts wreaked havoc with a
deceptively primitive special weapon.

The Burda, a brain -splattering
bludgeon, tailor -made for the muscular

The burda is made out of ash wood, fire
-hardened, and sealed with beeswax to

give it optimal strength.

It's two different sizes on each end,
one wrapped in two plates of iron.

That'll do it.

So we understand that heads hold a

The only thing that would slow me down
was the blood on the floor.

That was 8 .5 seconds.

It only takes 12 PSI to pop an eyeball,
about 81 PSI to fracture a skull.

I'm looking at over 273 PSI from that
thing.

Looks like an Irish pub, and you're
sending your friends home. That's pretty

cool, but it just looks like a bar
fight, and that's a pretty little tool.

You've got to get that to the soldier.
That was one of the killed specialty,

hand -to -hand combat. I think that
would have worked on your own kind, but

the Persian immortal.

And you've seen the damage.

You can't argue with it. As far as the
Sim's concerned, this is an apocalypse

you can hold in your hand.

It's a little weapon, and we got
something to answer that.

The Persian answer to that guilty club
is not handheld.

The chariot's side.

A horsepower leg severing metal blade.

This is a side.

It goes on a Persian war chariot. This
is made specifically to kill, maim,

destroy anything in front of it. It
spins with the wheels. You have four

coming down. They're serrated. It just
cuts through anything that's in front of

it. This is interesting to me. Are you
just going to clear the side? Are you

going to try to mount one of the horses?
Are you going to jump back onto the

chariot and take out the guy? What's the
technique here? We have no rules in

engagement. Moment to moment in the
battle, whether it was high or low, they

would choose to either duck or jump or
just get a big piece of timber or a

boulder and kind of put it in the way of
that, which would send them and their

horses flying.

I don't know, guys.

Looks like a human -sized blender to me.

Regardless of the blade, you know, a
chariot at speed is like being hit by a

moving car.

And you know what? That's a calculation
we can make, and I'll do it.

We have a row of pigs here. We're going
to see if this size will go through the

legs of a human being. So let's see. I'm
kind of excited about this. I'm getting

my surgical gloves on to see what I can
save here, but I don't think there's

going to be much to save.

Let's get this test started.

Chariot, attack!

Oh, you got it up to 47.

Oh, my God. Those are two dead kelp. Oh,

Okay, so we're actually seeing a nice
laceration here.

This is the iliac crest of the pelvic
bone, the top of the pelvis. It's going

through the skin, it's getting muscle,
but it's not hitting anything vital on

this. Charlie, at the speed it was
going, the kill would have probably

over and jumped into Charlie.

According to the numbers, roughly
equivalent to getting hit by a compact

going around 15 miles an hour.

Definitely this is something you want to
get out of the way, but is it by itself

With what I'm seeing here, I can't
definitively say the trauma is very

We could run him practically at that
same speed, and we can get the same

with that riding a chariot.

The murder club and the chariot side
come from opposite ends of a blood

-spattered spectrum.

But which special weapon is deadlier?

I have to give the edge to the Burda. As
crazy as it sounds, it's a simple

weapon. Simple weapons keep your options
open.

The side, I think, requires too much
tricky horsemanship in order to maneuver

properly on the battlefield.

I think it's more for show than it is
for go.

In special weapons, the Celt gets the
edge for the Burda Club.

But this fight is far from over.

Coming up, both sides unload their long
-range ammo.

Celt or Persian immortal?

Who will be the deadliest warrior?

In a face -off between a Celt and a
Persian immortal, one question remains

answered. Who deals the most death from
a distance?

Our Persian experts claim the immortals
were absolute masters of long -range

warfare. The Persian immortals were
famous.

for blanketing their enemies in arrows.
They basically would take out a good

portion of their enemy before the fight
would even begin.

The bow and arrow, the immortal's
projectile weapon that rained death on

enemy. Persians would use a composite
recurve bow.

The bow is made of horn on the belly.
It's going to have sinew on the back,

which gives it its strength. It's got
these limbs that cause a lever action,

it whips the arrow forward. It gives it
even more speed. It goes fast.

The arrowheads were specially designed
to rain death from above.

This would be a standard -style arrow
tip that infantry would use.

In long range, you will have a heavy
leaf shape. The weight of the arrow is

going to come down.

and bring weight with it as it comes
down. You're going to let gravity do a

of the work.

Gravity's going to do a lot of that
work.

Immortal archers practiced a spray -and
-fray method.

Firing so many arrows, some were sure to
kill.

But would this weapon be effective in a
one -on -one battle?

If you guys look back, we actually have
pigskin on top of those hay targets. It

actually lets us know if you're going to
be killing a person with these arrows.

Because if you can get through that
pigskin, which has epidermis, dermis,

soft tissue, you'd be hitting vital
structures.

That way we'll know you're not just
hitting a random hay target. You're

going to be able to kill a person with
your shot.

Targets are set up at intervals ranging
from 50 to 200 yards.

Arashar, are you ready? Ready.

The Persian arrow has great range, but
it's not as precise at long distances.

But at shorter ones, can it strike down
a massive kelp?

Here's the important part.

If you look at the thickness of the
skin, it's the epidermis, the dermis,

then the soft tissue.

And easily it's going through whenever
it does hit the right target.

So there's no question that the arrow
does its job. It's just a question of

accuracy. But on this target, it looks
like he definitely did your mark.

Yeah. You know, only a few would have
probably hit the target they were aiming

for, you know.

This would have basically been a flesh
wound to kill. You know, he would have

just pulled it out, knocked it over his
knee.

You know, I'm just throwing it away.

And then once we got to you, I'll use it
as a toothpick after I'm done eating

your babies.

Our pelts have the stones to stay in
this fight.

And they know how to throw them with
terminal velocity.

The sling.

A rugged rock chucker to blindside the
fiercest of enemies.

It is lightweight. It's constructed of
leather and braided cord. With a rock,

can create enough momentum that can
easily fracture a skull.

You're bringing a bunch of rock and your
G -string to combat?

Infinite ammo. All it takes is one
strike with one of these rocks at full

and you're dead.

So we've rigged up a bunch of bones for
you to try and hit here to test its

hitting power. If you can hit a bone,
you can break a bone. If you can hit a

skull, you can kill a man. If you crush
a man's skull, it's a kill shot.

Spencer will have five stones to prove
that Sling is deadly.

Okay, let the doctor handle the bones
here.

As you can see, this is a long bone
that's been fractured. That's

incapacitating, but not a killer.
