Original subtitles

Morning. What you're about to witness can be dangerous.

Attempting it can result in death.

Don't try this at home.

On this episode of Bully.

What the hell is going on?

Now!

I'm going to walk on an ivy and 60 feet in the air. And I want to do it blind.

I want to actually die. You know that, right? No!

Isn't it hard enough to be walking across a beam without there being a gap

the middle?

Falling is not the problem. The bitch is hitting the ground. That's making me

very nervous.

I'm stressed out.

I'm not using a safety line.

I don't know if I will be able to accomplish this today.

Chris Angel, Believe.

I got rope.

What am I going to use that for?

Put something on top of this or underneath.

Oh, I can stand on that. One of the things I love about what I do is I can

perform anywhere, anytime, with everyday objects and literally bug people out.

You know how to make a knot, man?

Let me show you.

We're going to do something. We're going to put my...

My wrist in here. I want you to tie it tight and make a knot. Just make sure I

can't... Well, check it out, folks. Why don't you come over here so you can get

a nice close look?

That's definitely tight. That's not going to... We're going to do the same

on this side, all right?

People think from the back happens.

Stay right over here.

I want you to see this.

Obviously, I could get out, but it would take me some time. You can see my...

It's tight, man. It's like you can see my skin right over there. Look at that.

Okay.

Now...

The reason why I asked you to do this is I'm preparing for something a little

bit bigger than this and crazier, but this is kind of cool because it involves

little bit of an escape and something else.

I want you to pull, okay? Pull.

Keep it taut, okay?

Completely impossible conditions. Nothing below, nothing above, nothing

Watching me back there?

Good.

VG, George, come on in. Grab the cloth.

Keep it about. Bring it up a little bit more. That's fine. A little bit more.

There you go. Good.

Check it out. It's going to happen right in front of you. You will not believe

this. Check it out.

Watch.

No matter how you slice it,

success comes from working hard, challenging yourself.

and having a team second to none.

It's going to be a hard one to pull off, though. We've got to do it just right.

Banachek is my sounding board, my extra set of eyes. And as a world -renowned

mentalist, he understands sensibility and process from my perspective.

We're kind of in like a whole new territory.

John's job is to take what I create and lay it out on paper, test the method and

challenge and tweak it until it's ironclad.

Every night.

Doug's my fabricator. And not only is he a magician, it's his job to take my

ideas and John's blueprints and build them into working models.

It's amazing!

Kristen is my apprentice.

There are almost too many variables. One day she'll get her shot in Whimsical,

my live tour.

But right now, her job is to watch, learn, and help fill in wherever needed.

He'll kind of stand away from it.

Jesse's my researcher.

And he's responsible for everything from finding unusual and rare props to

forecasting the weather conditions.

I'll get a permit and we'll lock it down.

And last but not least, Spiro's my crazy Greek. And it's his job to find the

right location to accommodate the crowd and our production rig.

What's

up,

guys? Oftentimes, I'm inspired by attempts that others have made

history. But for me, it's always about upping the stakes.

How's everybody doing? Good.

We're in the business of using trickery, illusions, deception.

And I don't want to use any of that.

Changing careers?

We're going to try something that is completely real. This is not about

This is about another category.

a category I like to call superhuman, where it's about really relying on your

own skill, your own athleticism and training to see can you do something

completely legitimate, noble.

I have been fascinated with high wire acts. I just saw a wonderful show here

town by Cirque du Soleil, Zircana, and there was a high wire act in there that

blew my mind.

People that are able to have amazing balance and be able to navigate

from one end to the other end.

The only difference, if I want to do it, lie.

High wire acts die, you know that, right?

The best in the world. In the late 70s, Carl Walenda passed away.

He'd been doing it his whole life. Exactly, he was the one who created the

Daredevil Circus Act.

Doesn't necessarily have to be on a wire.

I was thinking...

about a beam of some kind. Oh, like an I -beam? Something like that. An I -beam

that would be suspended.

And I want the audience to understand 110 % that I cannot see.

You do know, though, it's sort of a bit of a myth that when you take one sense

away, your other senses automatically become enhanced.

What happens is you become more enhanced. No, you rely upon them more.

become more focused. You become more in tuned with them. But when you take your

sight away, that's totally messing with your vestibular system, which is like

your sense of balance.

It's about getting yourself conditioned and getting muscle memory and getting

yourself in that environment so it feels second nature. The blind is a nice

touch. steel walkers high walkers who do this every day for a living i think

this is what separates you from those people who do this every day the average

person who's not even afraid of height 30 feet is the breaking point it's your

mind saying what if i fall yeah well falling is not the problem it's the

is hitting the ground i don't even know if this is possible i don't even know if

i can do this And you have to look at locations. What are we looking at here?

Outside, we're looking at buildings, cranes. I would love to do it at the

between the East and West Tower. I think that would be epic.

What about an airbag or anything like that? No safety. At this point, I want

go for it 100%. I want to try to do it. What about during rehearsals at least?

Yeah, well, for rehearsals, of course.

There's one little caveat.

I want to add a break.

In the middle. So essentially, it's two independent teams.

And that's really good. The audience will see me approaching and I'm sure

be able to hear a pin drop.

Hey, mom, you don't want to hear what I'm about to do.

What are you going to do?

I can't.

No, it's not dangerous.

No, don't worry. I haven't even planned it yet. Don't worry, Mom.

I love you very much.

I got to run because we got to get working on this, okay? All right. Okay.

love you, too. Whatever you do, please, please be careful. Thank you, Mom. I

love you.

I don't envy my mom for having a kid like me who's always trying to conjure

ways to potentially kill himself.

But my mom knows who I am, what I am, and she completely supports me.

Chris, what other stuff are you going to need?

Should I go get some blindfolds and get some different kinds?

I just need something that people can put on, see for themselves. It's

completely legit. Something very simple. Right, right. All right.

John and Doug need to figure it out while I practice my balance and focus.

All right, guys. Thanks so much. All right.

I'll see you.

This demonstration features two I -beams suspended 60 feet off the ground, a two

-foot gap between them.

Chris Angel will be blindfolded.

Category of magic, superhuman.

I got a call from my friend Ludacris.

I'm going to stop by and bug his ass out.

I know you're making the buck. I see all the people waiting for you down there

by the pool.

So why don't you just pull out some cash for me, man? What kind of cash do you

want me to pull out? You know, one of your bills, you know?

And do me a favor. When I ask you to grab my wrist, you're just going to grab

wrist like this, okay? Just grab my wrist, okay? And don't let go of my

okay? Get out.

Honestly, we haven't set this up. Right. Right.

You don't know what I'm going to do. Anybody here, right? Okay, check it out.

No leg.

What the hell is going on right now?

Come on.

I definitely, I don't know how he did it, and I will be trying to figure it

for the rest of my life.

Coming up. The crazy

thing with gymnastics is that so many skills are blind landing, so I can help

you out a little bit. They want him to use the safety line too.

He's going to tape your line.

He's going to tape your line.

Kristen, it comes out of the car right now.

I got to run. Bye.

I'm sorry I'm late. Come on, hey.

This is my table.

This is like kicking it old school when I used to perform magic on the streets

of New York. Use a trash can, piece of wood on top. I like it.

Cool, cool.

I need a deck of cards.

Anybody bring me a deck of cards? I have a deck of cards. You have a deck.

You see, it's fair.

This is what we're going to do.

I'm going to ask you to count how many red cards you spot as I deal them out.

So women at home that are watching, it's very important to count how many red

cards you see me deal out.

Guys, you're going to represent the guys, Ray.

You're going to count how many black cards you spot.

So women get the red card, and the guys are going to count the black card.

Now, it's a little windy out here, so I'm going to ask you to put your hand

right over here for me. Keep it out there, right? Yeah. I'm going to deal in

your hand. You ready?

All right, let's begin.

a little faster at the end, trying to see how good you can follow.

Was it a little tricky at the end there? Yes, it was.

How many red cards did you count?

I believe I counted 14.

Wow, that was close.

You're actually just one off. There were 13 red cards.

Now, Ray, for all the guys, how many black cards did you count?

I counted 13.

13 is exactly the amount.

There were actually 13 red cards and 13 black cards. But you see, it was never

about the color of the cards at all.

While I was asking to count the cards, I created inattentional blindness.

See, while you were counting the cards, I had a secret message on the back.

Did you see it?

actually 21 changes that took place right in front of your eyes.

Did you spot them?

Well, let's do a little rewind.

Anybody bring me a deck of cards? I have a deck of cards. You have a deck.

Count how many you spot as ideal amounts.

So women at home represent the guy.

You're going to count how many

That's a little windy.

I believe

I

counted 14.

For all the guys, how many black cards did you count? I counted 13.

Reality is your perception.

And by the way, if you're thinking to yourself, where's change number 22?

Right here.

Banachek, you ready?

Is it hard enough to be walking across a beam without there being a gap in the

middle? Yeah, but close your eyes and try and do it. So for this

Chris is going to be suspended 60 or 70 feet in the air, blindfolded.

The basic concept is two I -beams suspended from two cranes.

And for Chris to make it even more difficult for himself, he wants a two

gap. Now, he has to make it over that gap without falling to his death.

And you know, I do like cutting stuff.

So the I -beam just arrived.

We've got to measure it, cut it in half into two pieces so we can suspend it in

the air and see what we're dealing with.

One, two, three.

There we go.

And that's two feet. He was asking for three feet, I think it was. But I think

we need to get him over here and try this part out. Because even two feet

We checked one challenge off the list, but now we have to make rigging plates,

we have to make anchors, and we have an enormous amount of other stuff that

needs to be built.

Two ends and the center, and we'll be good to go. Yep. Easy, right?

It's going to be great.

I create illusions, but blind is no illusion. It's completely real. It's

physical, and it's mental.

I've been training with my friend Pedro, who's a high -wire act in Zarkana.

But now I got to start training on a beam. I would recommend practicing on a

beam this height also.

Hi, nice to meet you. We brought in Olympic gold medalist Jordan Weaver.

Take me through if I was going to start from there and walk across.

You have to think about your core and keeping it really stable.

And you just look at the end and just walk across.

So when you're losing your balance, what do you do?

If I feel myself lose my balance, I just kind of pull it back a little bit and

obviously keeping your arms out to the side.

a good way to kind of feel the balance.

Uh -huh. So, beam is all feeling.

Yeah. I noticed you put your foot to the side.

What is that about?

If you feel yourself, you're walking and you start to go like this. Right.

You can grip the beam with your toes.

Oh, okay.

Boom.

Close your eyes. Try to step.

Try to step.

It's a lot more difficult than even Jordan makes it look.

But I want to test my ability and get on that tight wire and push myself even

further.

Yeah, that's amazing.

That just shows all the years and discipline of doing what you do. You

going to be ready for my big blind walk?

No.

Coming up.

Very different up here, buddy.

No.

Despite my studly exterior, I'm really not a shackles and blindfolds kind of

guy.

Whoa.

But when Chris performs the I -beam walk, he really wants to make sure that

audience knows he can't see anything.

He's rehearsing it later today, so I'm here to take one for the team.

Hi. Hi.

How are you?

I'm the one that called about blindfold and stuff.

You're definitely in the right place. Yeah?

Can I try one of these on?

Yeah. Do you have a preference?

Maybe this one.

This one? Yeah.

This one's kind of cool.

Put it on in the right direction.

The other way.

Let's look at the tags on your underwear, too.

Yeah.

They're always backwards. I can't see.

Sometimes I wonder if Chris really knows what I have to go through to deliver

these requests.

Maybe something less tight. This might be perfect.

Can I take it down? Yeah. Is that cool?

Well, that would definitely make it so you can't see anything.

I can't see anything.

This is great.

I'll take it.

We're going to try a little test of the blind demonstration.

I'm going to keep my eyes closed.

High wire acts have proven themselves deadly in the past.

In just a few days, I'm going to be more than six stories above the ground.

Right now, I want to practice with the beans on the ground.

Here? Yes. My eyes are open now.

Yeah!

Now that I've done it with my eyes closed, I want to see if it's possible

take it to the next level.

Can I make it from point A to point B wearing the actual hood that I'll be

wearing during the demonstration?

If you got this the first time, I'd be shocked.

Is it easier being 100 feet and not being able to see? I don't know. I

been... 100 feet.

Take your time. Take your time.

Whoa.

Whoa.

I made it?

Yep, yep, yep, yep.

All people that see it at home, seriously, I want you to see it

Inside, you can't see anything.

And I would love to not have anything on me, just literally just have my eyes

closed, but you won't be able to see that from down there. I don't know how

people. Is there a way to get my eyes sewn shut? Just like, no, no, I'm

Like, like literally sewn my eyelids together. I think you keep it simple

because you've got everything else going on.

Okay. I'm going to split.

I'm going to come back tomorrow.

All right, buddy. Awesome.

Thank you.

52 cards.

I want you to see one card and burn it in your mind.

Get one card in your mind. Don't tell me what it is. You have it? Yep. Good.

I want you to take your hands and put them over my eyes so I can't see. I'll

keep my eyes closed.

Just cover.

There you go. I'm going to put the cards in the air. Just think of your card.

Burn it in your mind. And I want you to see. See it and I want you to feel it

and almost send me what that would feel like. Send it to my hands, to my

fingertips. Just send it to me. Just send it to me. Send it to me.

Send it to me, okay?

I want you to tell me what your card is right now. Tell me.

Two red diamonds.

What the hell?

How did you do that?

Oh, my God.

I've been bucked in my ass training on the ground, and now it's all going to be

tested as I go up 30 feet.

The mind starts playing tricks on you when you're up this high.

Very different up here, buddy.

Very different. I got you. You ain't going to fall.

There's no falling, man.

Do me a favor, okay? I know he's going to have to wear a harness.

He's fighting and he doesn't want to wear a harness.

And every time you bring it up, all he does is get upset.

Just wait until we get a lot closer to it.

Forget about grabbing back, okay? Fight.

Now you're on your own. I want you to fight it.

Grab that cable, grab it.

Good, good.

Thanks for helping.

Chris has performed a lot of life -threatening demonstrations,

but this is the first time that things have been so completely dependent on

It's not like he's going in a bog.

He's not lying on a table.

It's all up to him.

No.

Motherfucker. That was great, man.

You were doing good, bro. You did good.

So fun.

Coming up.

I honestly don't know if I will be able to accomplish it today.

Tomorrow, I'm going to attempt to cross two I -beams more than six stories above

the ground.

But this will be the very first time rehearsing on the suspended I -beams.

We're at about 10 miles an hour right now.

It just went from zero to 10 in a gust, and that's all you need to start shoving

this around. But you'll watch this. We'll be fine, and then it just takes

And see, that's worse than a steady wind.

28 miles an hour, 75 feet up is very dangerous. You understand that, right?

Yeah, it makes sense. It makes sense. So he's going to be pissed. We're looking

at Chris's safety here. That's very important.

This is going to be hard enough to do even without a blunt.

Freaking I -beam is moving around, you know, not an inch or two, like feet.

There's nothing supporting it. So those two are just going like this, literally

like this.

Let it go, let it go.

It's moving like crazy.

The wind's crazy.

Holy.

It's really wiggly.

Wind.

I want to be able to do it seeing.

I can't even do it seeing right now.

Wendy. I wanted

to train outside, but Mother Nature has been a bitch.

You always have to have a plan B, so Spiro better come up with something

The good news is, I found a mall that's willing to let us stage this

demonstration tomorrow.

The bad news is, Chris is not going to like one of their conditions.

I know we promoted the hell out of this, and... They want him to use the safety

line, too.

I'm not doing a safety line. You already know that. I know you don't want to do

it. I am not doing a safety line. They're going to shut you down if you do

am not doing a safety line.

No,

I'm not doing that. No, I don't give a... Here.

I'm not using a safety line.

Get him.

To me, the most powerful kind of magic is the magic that can have a meaningful

effect on somebody's life.

Trust me. It's all right.

Trust me.

Freaking hot out, man. You got all this heavy stuff.

It's my life, bro.

Yeah.

What's this? Oh, you just bought it. Got a jacket. It's a nice jacket.

This is like a winter jacket, though, man, huh?

It's like a winter.

It's like a winter jacket, huh? Yeah. Here, check it out.

Now!

Okay.

Here you go.

Thank you. No problem. Thank you.

My pleasure. God bless you, my friend.

Cool, man. That's it.

The main thing is just make sure it's

safe.

Get it up.

You just don't take and pick up a 2 ,400 -pound thing and fly it in the air and

say, okay, let's go. It's very complex. We have a lot of people, and we're

pushing and pushing against the clock.

Did you climb up on that? No, no.

Keep your body this way. And if you start shaking like that, just kind

of stop. Try it. Go on it. Bend your knees. You know what I mean? Go on.

Wow, it shakes a lot.

Here's the guy that's been doing it for how many years?

I'm not used to having a conversation with him. How many years have you been

doing it?

Look at how crazy that side's going. It's moving nine inches. That's moving

probably a foot.

This is making me very nervous.

I know that, but it's got to be a hell of a lot more stable if I'm going to be

blind. We're almost ready.

So, Chris, we got your harness yet?

Huh? Got your harness yet?

Or this run?

For rehearsal?

I want a harness, but not tomorrow.

We have no wind in here right now. It's still 50 feet.

How high did you walk your high wire? You didn't have no harness on, did you?

Yeah, you have a harness? No. Exactly.

How many years you been doing it?

25. Yes, but... How many years you been doing it? Well, he walked on a high

wire. This is a four -inch beam.

It doesn't matter. I personally think he's ready.

I'm not going to allow it to go forward. Dude, don't piss me off right now. I

don't need this.

Whenever we do this kind of stuff with Chris, he's always very resistant about

wearing a safety line.

And I think it is imperative that he does.

Today, I'll be attempting my blind eye bimoire, more than six stories off the

ground.

Right now, I'm proving to myself that what I learned training with Cirque and

Jordan Weaver has prepared me for the challenge I'll face in a matter of hours

in front of thousands of fans.

and show them all welcome to blind.

I honestly don't know if I will be able to accomplish this today. I just got to

remain focused so I can attempt and execute and complete for all

of you what I call blind.

Down here it's wobbling, but up there it keeps saying that.

You can see it just vibrating.

This safety harness is a huge distraction for me. If I do fall, I

crack my head open on the side of the I -beam.

For me, I'd much rather rely on my training.

But unfortunately, they're not giving me that as an option.

All right, ladies and gentlemen, you want to see this?

I have a wristband that I'm going to toss out there. Here we go.

You got it, brother.

Give him a nice round of applause.

Nice to meet you. What's your first name? Chris.

Chris, ladies and gentlemen.

He will be your eyes. He will be the truth for you. Over here, we have a

blindfold. I want you to put your head in here.

Tell us if you can see anything.

No, I can't see anything.

Absolutely nothing?

Nothing.

Is that legitimate?

That is legitimate. I can't see anything.

Now, to make this even fairer, I want you to pick anybody at random and let me

put the bag over their head.

Right here. Okay.

Can you see anything?

No. Watch.

You can't see what I'm doing?

No. I'm punching you in the face right now. You can't even see it.

I'm just teasing you.

Actually, I was just going like this to see if you saw my hand. But you can't

see through it. Is that true?

No, I can't see through it. All right, so have we established it's fair, ladies

and gentlemen?

One other thing, ladies and gentlemen.

I'm going to put, I have a drawstring on there. I'm going to pull that so you

can't, I can't see down. And to further prove that.

I'm going to be wrapping duct tape around me all the way down to my neck

chin so I can't peek down. I just don't want anybody thinking I'm really doing

it. I'm not bullshitting you.

So here we go.

Are you good? Are you good?

Let's go.

It's hot.

I want to get going, guys. Okay.

All right, stand by. Let's just get ready to go up. Clear the ropes. Watch

ropes. Guys, stand back.

We're going to be going up.

Palms are good. Thank you.

Deep breaths.

Deep breaths.

God bless you all. Live your dreams. Believe.

Chris has genuinely done what no one has ever accomplished, or even extended to

that matter.

He's living history.

Thank you very much.

I didn't think I was going to be able to do it. My legs are shaking.

I'm so overwhelmed with emotion.

No kidding.

I can understand that.

Nobody in the world would have done this.

So, I mean, my hat's off to you. You are a legend. Did you get a good picture?

Yeah. You're crazy.

You are crazy. I'm going to...
