On the morning of June 24th, special
agents of the FBI, led by Inspector

Erskine, arrested John Lawrence Sutton
and his confederate under provisions of

the extortionate credit transaction
statute.

The arrest was part of an ongoing
investigation into the loan -sharking

operations of organized crime in New
York City.

but it failed to produce what the agents
had hoped to find, a record book

containing the names of borrowers, the
amounts illegally loaned, and the money

owed, including the exorbitant interest
which had to be paid under threat of

death. This book would have been an
important piece of evidence in the case

against Sutton and the mob.

Well, it's not here.

The informant was sure the book hadn't
been removed yet.
