The robbery of an armored car in Monroe,
Michigan on April 2nd was only

partially successful.

One man had managed to get away with the
stolen money, but his two accomplices

were apprehended on the spot, one of
them critically wounded.

A few hours later, the stolen car used
in the robbery was found abandoned near

Toledo, Ohio.

When the investigating officer found
evidence that the stolen money had

state lines, the FBI entered the case.

And because the amount stolen was placed
in the major theft category, Inspector

Lewis Erskine took charge of the
investigation.

Some of the stolen money was recently
delivered to the Monroe Bank from the

Federal Reserve Branch.

I've entered the known serial numbers in
the NCIC. That'll give us a crack at

the driver in the event he tries to
spend any of the money.

What's up, Lewis?

All right, we may have a lead on the
driver of the getaway car in the Monroe

Bank robbery.

The identification division is comparing
the prints that we took from the

abandoned car with the fingerprint
records of the non -associates of McCann

Willis. Is McCann going to make it?
Well, he's still unconscious, but the

doctors give him a good chance.

The other one, Artie Willis, so far
anyway, refuses to cooperate.

Lewis, how close are you to winding up
the Halsey case?

Well, you'll have my report this
afternoon. It's being typed up now.

as soon as he regains consciousness.

The latent prints from the getaway car
used in the Monroe robbery have been

identified with a Richard Billings.

He was convicted of the attempted
robbery of a taxi cab driver four years

He served time in the Ohio State
Penitentiary with Ben McCann.

The Cincinnati office called the prison
and found out he was released last July,

but he's been in violation of his parole
since August.

Cab driver?

I'd say this job was a little out of his
league, wouldn't you?

Well, there's nothing in his background,
or McCann's, or Willis's, to indicate

they could plan and execute a job of
this size.

Does Billings have any family?

No, but the person to be notified in
case of emergency is Alice Krantz at

West Home in Toledo.

Well, it certainly sounds as though this
robbery was masterminded by someone

What's the latest on McCann?

He's off the critical list. We're hoping
to see him this afternoon.

tried and convicted in federal court of

interstate transportation of stolen
property.

Billings, Joe Salka, Ben McCann, and
Arthur Willis were found guilty in state

court of armed robbery and conspiracy.

Leo F. Conway was convicted of receiving
money stolen in the armored car

robbery. Billings and Salka were also
found guilty of assaulting federal

officers. Alvin and Sarah Holmquist
pleaded guilty to passport

and harboring charges.
