Highway Patrol found an abandoned sports
car on a secondary road near the

It had been stripped of wheels, radio,
and all other valuable instruments and

components. The vehicle was registered
to John C. Graham of Flemington,

Illinois, a Chicago suburb.

Graham, a bachelor, had not returned
home from his office the previous night,

although this was not considered unusual
by his maid.

What had worried her, however, was the
arrival that morning of a letter

addressed to Graham's father.

Marshal Graham's vacationing in Europe
right now, so the officer took the
