At approximately 11 .15 p .m. on the 6th
of March, 17 -year -old Thomas Enfield,

son of a prominent New England
industrialist, disappeared from the

Woodford, Massachusetts.

After an intensive 24 -hour
investigation, local and state police

turn up a single important clue to the
victim's whereabouts.

And on March 8th, agents of the FBI
entered the case.

He left the bowling alley about 11 o
'clock, told his friends he was going

straight home.

But his mother had asked him to pick up
a gown she was having altered.

Apparently he remembered this after he
got in the car.

Have you talked to the eyewitness
herself?

Not yet.

She was released from the hospital this
morning.

She's always been very close to the
boys. She was Mrs. Enfield's maid when

son was born.

She stayed with the family until last
year.

Mr. Enfield offered to take care of her
until she was back up on her feet again.

I'm Anthony Harper, special agent in
charge of the Boston FBI office. This is

Inspector Erskine. I called earlier.

circulation magazine.

What about the one from New Hampshire?

Nothing solid, but some interesting
aspects.

The writer may have been trying a fairly
old trick.

The slant and structure of the letters
indicate he may have been using his off

hand. That he was right -handed
ordinarily, but used his left hand to

note. Well, then that would account for
the shakiness of the letters.

Right. It wouldn't have been age or
illness?

That's very unlikely.

when you consider the hip language used
in the text of the note.

Well, that subject might be in his early
20s now.

That certainly is a possibility that
shouldn't be overlooked.
