Since it was almost a certainty that it
would be transported across a state

line, the FBI entered the case
immediately.

The investigation was given top
priority, not only because of the value

painting, but because art collector Webb
Andrews had been seriously hurt.

Andrews had served with distinction in
the cabinets of two presidents.

If he did not survive...

His death would deprive the country of a
loved and respected public servant.
