[Episode 8]

We are demon hunters.

Is this the residence of Xu Ying?

My name is Sun Ya.

My husband Xu Ying and I were childhood sweethearts.

We've been married for over a decade now.

He'd always been fond of drinking.

He just wouldn't listen to me.

That night, he didn't come home at all.

I thought he had passed out drunk somewhere.

But I never imagined...

At dawn, someone found

his body outside the city.

Was it done by Honglian?

Where did he usually drink?

Lanyue House.

Is it a restaurant?

Lanyue House is Songhe County's largest brothel.

Since you two are demon hunters

you must catch that heart-digging demon

and avenge my husband.

Madam Sun, please accept our condolences.

If there really is a demon harming people

we will certainly eliminate this threat.

My husband

did you hear that?

Come, come, this way, this way.

Sir

your dishes are here.

Then let's have a few drinks together.

-Don't run. -Oh, stop it.

Stop hiding.

You're hurting me.

Follow me.

Wasn't there talk of demon activity?

Why are the streets so empty during the day

while Lanyue House is so busy at night?

Naturally, there's something here

that makes people want to come at all costs.

Bravo!

Do you think Xu Ying was

really killed by Honglian?

Why does she dig out people's hearts?

Do you know Honglian's background?

I don't.

She was a lotus that grew by the Naihe Bridge

absorbing the grievances of countless wandering souls.

So when she took human form, she carried evil energy.

On every full moon

the evil energy in her body surges

bringing heart-piercing pain.

She can only suppress the pain by eating human hearts.

Is there no way to dissolve this evil energy?

There is a way but also no way.

What do you mean?

Bravo!

[Honglian]

Is it her?

What are we waiting for then?

This is a clone. Catching it is useless.

Sit down.

A clone?

Then where is her real body?

She was suppressed for centuries.

When she escaped, she was severely injured.

To control this puppet clone

she must be nearby.

You can't detect where her real body is either?

She has lived for nearly a thousand years.

Naturally, she has ways to hide herself.

So the Heavenly Lord isn't as powerful as I thought.

Bravo!

-So beautiful! -She danced so well.

Miss Lian

this is my family's heirloom white jade.

Please see if it meets your standards.

Miss Lian

this is a night-luminous pearl I bought at a high price.

This is agarwood worth a fortune.

I don't want your jewels.

What I want is your love.

I've never been here before.

Is she really that beautiful?

I'm the one who truly likes Miss Lian.

Honglian is best at bewitching people.

Have you ever been bewitched by her?

Miss Lian, Miss Lian!

Don't listen to their nonsense.

Don't listen to his lies.

They're all a bunch of lechers.

Miss Lian, Miss Lian!

Look at mine!

-Look at mine. -Take a look.

Look, please!

Miss Lian, Miss Lian!

Cut it out.

I know what kind of person you are.

What are you holding there?

How can that compare to mine?

These two gentlemen look unfamiliar.

I've long heard of Miss Lian's reputation.

We've come here because of your fame.

This young gentleman

is so handsome.

Among all these people...

Miss Lian!

You're the only one who catches my eye.

I wonder if you'd like

to join me upstairs for a drink?

But what about the gift I spent so long to prepare?

Yeah.

Then I'll respectfully accept your invitation.

Wait for me here.

Hey, this...

Miss Lian is leaving.

Miss Lian!

-Miss Lian! -Miss Lian!

Look at us.

Miss Lian!

Miss Lian!

You're indeed popular.

Everything in this room is valuable.

These things

can't be taken with when I pass away.

Nothing is as precious as sincere hearts.

Come, let's have a drink.

It seems you are very interested in human hearts.

It's not that I like it.

It's just so hard to find in this world.

That's why it seems even more precious.

You came here

just to find a sincere heart?

I'm waiting for someone.

Who?

Waiting for someone who doesn't love me.

If you meet him

could you ask him to come find me?

What did she tell you?

She said she's waiting for someone.

Do you know who she's waiting for?

I do.

Then let's bring him here.

Maybe it could help us catch Honglian.

He doesn't want to see her.

How can we force him to do something he doesn't want to?

Then what should we do?

Are we just going to wait for Honglian to make the first move?

What if she escapes?

I've already set up a barrier around the entire Songhe County.

She won't be able to escape.

What should we do next?

Wait.

Wait?

She's unwilling to appear.

And we can't find her true form.

Let's see who gets restless first.

But come to think of it

I'm curious.

What exactly did Honglian do back then

to get sealed in Hell Ruins?

Honglian

you spread a plague and took countless lives.

Surrender now!

Have him come see me.

Incorrigible.

It's your memories again.

You haven't told me yet

who the person is that Honglian mentioned.

Li Mo.

One of your Three Dharma Lords?

Good memory.

If that's the case

then this matter began with him

and should end with him.

Foolish girl, he doesn't love you at all.

Who?

You know clearly that he doesn't love you.

It's not like we're meeting for the first time.

Why are you still so surprised?

Stop looking around. This is an illusion I created.

As long as I don't allow it

no one can enter or leave.

Why did you bring me here?

Why don't you guess?

You want to force Li Mo to show up.

You're quite clever.

Have a seat first.

I heard Li Mo has been avoiding you for centuries.

Are you sure he will come?

That depends on how important you are to Bai Jiusi.

Let's see if he will

force his disciple to meet me for your sake.

If he refuses

that's fine too.

At least I will have helped you see his true colors.

He will.

Oh, you still don't understand men.

Even though he keeps saying he loves you

it might not be true.

I have lived for a thousand years.

I've seen people's cold-heartedness

and false affections.

Not all men are like that.

Do you know what this is?

Evil energy.

It seems Bai Jiusi has told you about this.

It's this evil energy

that torments me every full moon

making me wish I were dead.

Meng Po on the Naihe Bridge told me

only the blood of someone who truly loves me

can dissolve the evil energy in my body.

Unfortunately, I've waited for a thousand years

and this evil energy still hasn't been removed.

Can you guess why?

Perhaps I should let you see for yourself.

Then you'll understand.

We grew up together.

We're also at the age for marriage.

I've already discussed it with my parents.

As long as you don't mind me

tomorrow...

I'll go to your house tomorrow to propose.

Alright.

Lian, does this mean you've agreed?

That's wonderful!

Lian has agreed to marry me!

Lian has agreed to marry me!

That's wonderful!

What do you want me to see?

What is this now?

Naturally, it's still my past.

Who's there? Who's knocking?

Wake up, wake up.

Miss Honglian, thank you for saving my life.

When I pass the imperial exam, I will return to marry you.

I'll wait for you.

Lian!

Lian, I've come back to marry you.

Enough!

Do you see clearly now?

Whether it's childhood sweethearts or life-saving grace

sharing life and death

or kindred spirits

they're all fake.

They pride themselves on being passionate

but in the end

not one of them could dispel the evil energy in me.

Isn't it laughable?

You killed them.

I didn't take their lives.

I only took the blood from their hearts.

Since you're convinced that men are fickle

why do you insist on finding Li Mo?

He's different.

How is he different?

He doesn't love me.

He's the only one who doesn't love me.

Then why do you still insist on finding him?

It's me.

I’m holding onto a love I can’t reach.

I deserve an explanation, don’t I?

Alright, someone's here to see me.

I will play with you no more.

My dear sister

I'll help you test

Bai Jiusi’s true feelings for you.

How's that?

What are you going to do? Let me out!

Don't go! Come back!

Let me out!

This is nothing but a puppet’s shell.

You can't hurt me.

If you want to kill me

then just do it.

Where is she?

Hand over Li Mo in exchange.

If you want to see him

come and see me in person.

Do you think I'm stupid?

If it were my real body

standing in front of you

how would I even have the right

to bargain with you here?

How about this?

I've heard that disciples must obey

Blood Spells from Canglei Palace.

As long as you issue an order to Li Mo

I'll tell you Li Qingyue's location.

Well?

Location.

Li Qingyue is inside.

But let me kindly remind you.

It might be easy to enter, but getting out might be difficult.

That's right, this is the trap I set.

Do you still dare to enter?

This is getting more and more interesting.

Heavenly Lord.

Heavenly Lord!

Heavenly Lord, I'm the real one!

Heavenly Lord!

Heavenly Lord.

Only one of them is real.

Bai Jiusi, you only have one chance.

They are all fake!

If you choose the wrong one

this little girl...

will be sealed in ice forever.

By then, even the Heavenly Emissary

will not be able to save her.

-Heavenly Lord! -Heavenly Lord!

Heavenly Lord, I'm the real one!

I'm the real one. Don't listen to their nonsense.

I'm the real one!

Heavenly Lord!

I'm Qingyue, Heavenly Lord.

Heavenly Lord, I'm the real one.

Heavenly Lord! Heavenly Lord!

They are all fake!

Heavenly Lord, I'm the real one.

Heavenly Lord, I'm the real one!

Heavenly Lord!

Heavenly Lord, look at me!

You want to ascend to the Nine Heavens?

Yes.

Follow me.

Yinlian Mountain is the sacred ground of our sect.

It's said to have originated at the dawn of chaos

connecting heaven and earth, and can reach even Hell.

The first master of our sect

managed to be successful in his cultivation here

and ascended to the Nine Heavens.

This is the sacred object of our Yinlian Sect

No matter the aptitude of the cultivator

They can rise straight above the clouds and reach the Nine Heavens.

And the price to pay?

If something this good came without a price

the Nine Heavens would be overcrowded by now.

Worthy of being an elite of Jingyun Sect.

You're indeed clever.

This Sky-Reaching Ladder is an object that defies the natural order.

It harnesses the energy of heaven and transforms the waters of earth.

It connects heaven and earth, transcending all six realms.

However, you are a disciple of the immortal sect

while this Sky-Reaching Ladder is our clan's sacred object.

If you wish to achieve what others cannot

I'm afraid I'll starve to death first.

Heavenly Lord, chat with me for a while.

Let's divert our attention.

What do you want to talk about?

Between Immortal Lord Li Mo and Honglian...

what exactly happened

for her to be clinging on for centuries?

I don't know.

Aren't you the Master of Immortal Lord Li Mo?

How could you not know?

It was only after I sealed Honglian

that Li Mo became my disciple.

He didn't want to talk about it

so I didn't probe either.

I thought I might find some clues from their past

that could help us get out.

Look, Heavenly Lord.

Before you came

Honglian showed me several scenes from her past

by simply crushing this.

Do you think all of these might be her memories?

Honglian's emotional baggage is Immortal Lord Li Mo.

If we figure out what happened between them in the past

maybe we could find a way out of here?

We can give it a try.

What's this?

The Twin Heart Seal.

I'll be able to sense you.

Then I'll start.

So what if they were?

You are a demon that has already assumed the human form.

You should focus on cultivation.

How can you practice these evil and unorthodox techniques

and go as far as hurting people?

What has it got to do with you?

I'm just trying to advise you.

to protect me.

But all of this...

turned out to be fake!

If that's the case, let me help you.

These are indeed all Honglian's memories.

Heavenly Lord, shall we continue?

Take these first.

You've made me drink hundreds of bowls of medicine these days

but I haven't seen any improvement.

Can you really cure me or not?

The evil energy has been accumulating in your body for too long.

We can't rush it. We have to take it slow.

Actually...

I know of a method that allows me to heal even faster.

Why don't...
