Hey,
I'm Michael Carbonaro. Now there's nothing I love more than the often
world of unexplained phenomena.
Tonight, we're going to highlight some of the Carbonaro effect.
strangest and scariest bits from the archives, with all new, never -before
reactions to some of my favorite tricks.
Welcome to Double Take 3.
Keep the lights on, because it's about to get dark.
Yeah, look at that puppy. That looks pretty in the case, though. Yeah.
Remember Nigel? He was hired to help me clear out an abandoned garage, but a
brush with a haunted violin left him so shaken, he was almost unable to phone a
friend. What the?
Okay. Whoa.
Whoa. I'm calling my girl. I just need somebody to talk to.
Well, before Nigel, there was William.
You probably get 500 to 800. 500 to 800 bucks? Yeah.
who trembled through a different version of the trick that unleashed four times
the terror.
See if it... What the hell?
Um... Whoa.
Okay, I'm not touching any of this. I'm sorry. I can't do this. I can't do this
either. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let me call the guy to get it.
Hang on a second.
Okay. Hold on.
Jim?
Hey, listen, I'm standing out here with William.
Hold on.
Is that...
Oh my gosh.
William, what the hell is going on? Okay, um, we need to get out of here.
What would make that happen?
Um, I don't know. I don't care. I'm not touching anything. Oh, we need to go.
That's got to be like, you know what that is, dude? Like, we need to go.
Okay.
He's coming. He's coming to get us.
Dude, you know what that is?
Yeah, I mean, yeah, I get it, and that's all of this, and I mean, and I see it,
but I mean, that's to see all this, like, nah, we need to go. We do need to
We need to go. This has to be like the Carbonaro effect. Yeah, this needs...
know what I mean? Yeah. Have you heard of that before? Yes, I have.
The Carbonaro effect? You have heard of that?
I've heard of it. Like, I'm just like, I can't do this. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
The Carbonaro effect is the name of a hidden camera magic TV show. Is this it?
And you're on it right now.
Oh my gosh. What were you thinking? Were you thinking this was haunted? I was
like, holy shit, let's get the fuck out of here.
Like, no.
Stay alive.
I'm a veteran here. I don't want to, like, put you on fire and get you out of
here.
That would have been a nice ending.
Do you want to carry me out of here? We could be finished. We did it. Will you
be on my TV show?
Of course. You were awesome.
What can I say?
Sometimes they get carried away at the end of the night.
Speaking of which, I had my ghostly violinist play one last time.
But Raymond here didn't want to stick around for the encore.
Can we walk? I'll walk. I'll leave. Did you see that? Yeah, can we leave?
You know what that is. Can we leave? Yes, of course. Come on. But let's not
leave yet. No. I don't want to do it, Raymond.
Long story short, we left.
But there was nowhere to run for Kyle.
What is that? I don't know. Who in the next trick found himself trapped in a
barn as alien invaders abducted an innocent donkey.
Um, where, where, where is Goldie? Where the heck could she have gone? She was
tied up.
I'm not... With you, this is weird. The first take was such a hit, we
immediately greenlit the sequel, Daniel and the Donkey Abduction.
Is that a crop circle on the donkey?
I don't know.
Whoa, whoa, what was that?
You didn't see that?
I did see that. Was that the camera flash?
No, that wasn't the camera flash. That was like a light or something.
Huh.
Maybe like someone driving around, like the headlights of a truck sometimes on a
hill will... It seemed like more of a...
Huh? It's a flash than usual.
What is that? It's just seen more than just car lights, you know? Really? Yeah,
yeah, a little bit.
Whoa, okay.
What the f*** is that? Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Okay, hold on.
What the freak? Okay, hold on, dude. What is that? Okay, we're cool, we're
What is that?
Is that thing smoking?
Yeah, it like started smoking on there.
My God!
What the heck is that?
That looks like a laser or something, man.
Wow, look at that. It's like... Oh my God, that's that symbol!
That's the same thing... Oh my God. The donkey's gone, man.
The donkey is gone. Where is the donkey?
I have no idea. It was right there, and I looked at the symbol, and it was on
him, and now that same symbol's on that bucket from the laser, man.
Okay, well, what's that supposed to mean?
You know, I have no idea.
Okay.
Like, what is... Oh, look, see, look.
This is some X -file, man.
Okay, all right.
Whoa.
Dude, dude, dude, dude. Go like that.
You just had a thing there.
Man, I got that symbol on me.
Does that mean I'm going to go next?
Come on.
This has got to be like the Carbonaro effect.
What does that mean? Do you know what that is, the Carbonaro effect?
Is that like when you disappear, people disappear?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It's like a phenomenon.
It's also the name of a hidden camera magic TV show.
That you're on right now.
Come on. I'm telling you the truth. Are you serious? I'm serious, dude. My name
is Michael Carbonaro.
I'm a magician.
Oh, my God, man.
Are you being serious right now? Dude, I'm a magician. It's my TV show.
I was thinking that was it for me.
Dude. Oh, man, you're okay. You're okay.
You're good. You're okay.
Take note. People will believe in the wildest of things at 2 a .m. in the
of nowhere.
We get a lot of people coming in for feeders, though.
This next trick took us back to civilization, more specifically a
where Dan came face -to -face with a mad scientist's invention yielding jaw
-dropping results.
So we used these as feeders instead.
No frickin' way.
Well, before Dan, we shot this trick with Shanice, who clearly was not ready
the instant infestation.
Oh, thank you. Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. No, this isn't for you.
I'm just getting a life cycle, you know what I mean? Yeah, definitely.
You know, these are friendly.
Hold them.
No, thank you. No way.
I'm okay.
It's just a day's work, you know?
That's what it's like at the Chicago Reptile House.
All right. I think this is a nicer way to do it, though, for feeders.
You've seen this before, right? No. Oh, we just got this hooked up. Much better.
most customers are feeling better about it you get the little dude inside there
because you don't have to birth them we don't have to wait and we don't have to
feel bad about you know making them into a feeder okay ready watch stand back a
little bit sorry no it's cool here okay there we go what is that good
that's a slicer it's a gene slicer looks like a safer way to have the feeder
mice there we go so it takes one of them and
What? I cannot believe what I just saw.
Huh?
I cannot believe what I just saw.
Oh, yeah, I know. I love this.
I cannot believe what I just saw. Oh.
Yeah. Because rats are unigene, so their one gene can be blighted among many
like a spider's eye.
You should feel my heart. It is.
You're an artist, right? Whoa, yeah. I can't believe I just saw something like
that. So you've never seen that before? No, absolutely not. I don't do reptiles.
I don't do anything.
So me being in here is a little different. Yeah, technology started in
You know, they were able to just make one into two smaller ones. But then it
banned for a while, and now the technology they're allowing just in,
smaller platforms, like home shops, not, like, big industry.
Right. So that we can do it just as a safer way to make feeders.
I had no idea that was about to happen. I didn't know what you were doing.
Yeah, this kind of laser work with all simple celled organisms, like worms, we
can do with slugs.
The turtles won't do it.
Yeah.
Okay. Because of the shell.
Right. I mean, that makes sense. It's protected from it, yeah. So, let me go
grab the lamp for you.
Sure.
See,
I love when people document their disbelief on social media. It's proof
they've lost all perspective on what's real and what's magic.
Coming up next, Laura's day at the farm ends in paranormal panic.
Oh my gosh.
Hi, welcome back. I'm Michael Carbonaro, and you're watching a very special
edition of The Carbonaro Effect called Double Take 3, where we're showcasing
never -before -seen reactions to some of the eeriest tricks we've ever shot.
How's it going, sir?
It's all going to turn to dust anyway.
Now, surely you remember Vitale's reaction to the ghost of my grandfather
transforming into a lifeless scarecrow?
That is so bizarre.
The picture of the guy was... Oh, my God.
Well... Later that day, Laura here also got to discover that sometimes the
scariest of moments can happen in broad daylight.
All right, anything good?
Yeah. So we cleaned this place out 10 years ago, but they're renovating the
loft. So now it's things that I thought I kind of put this all away already, and
now to see this stuff that we didn't. Oh, man, what'd you get?
Wow, that's my grandpa's pocket watch.
Oh,
that's a good one. See, we thought we lost this.
That is so cool.
What was that, wrapped in that? Okay, there we go. Get that nice and wrapped
Good.
Okay, and what else?
Oh, yeah.
Well, here's another keeper, obviously.
Oh, my gosh.
Nice.
Wow. Yeah, that's insane.
Same jacket.
Here,
this will be a keeper as well.
And that, wrap that up nice. Keeps it in the box. That's a keeper.
Oh, my gosh, yeah. I totally remember this book.
The little girl across the way used to bring it over. What was her name?
Angela.
Angela.
Wow.
Just like all falling apart at the seams, you know, the way stuff does.
That's what happens.
All right, so the watering cans, I'm going to leave those. My aunt's probably
going to want those. How many do you have? I've got three. I think there's
another one down there.
There's one over here. Let me get that one.
Good. So that, I guess we'll leave this table out. Maybe that'll become part of
the garage sale if my aunt doesn't want it.
Yeah, this feels like something good.
Money?
Coins? What do you got in there? Coins, right.
Let's see.
What do we got? Oh, okay. We got a little locket. Oh, great.
You know what? Maybe wrap that up in the same thing. Yeah, yeah. Where the watch
is. Great.
Okay. Yeah, so the watch. Well, I'm going to write those down because that's
important. The watch and the...
Lock it.
Did I... Did you take it out?
Wait.
Wait.
Sorry. I thought I saw you put it in here. I did.
That is so weird.
Did it fall?
No. I totally put it in there.
Wait. Hold on a minute.
Is it under here?
Let me see.
No. Oh, my gosh.
That is so bizarre.
What is happening?
I don't know. It must have slipped. Maybe it fell into something.
Definitely not over here.
It was in his pocket.
Oh. And where did he go?
Where did who go?
Was that your uncle, you said? This guy? Jack the Scarecrow? No, it's my
grandpa's jacket.
This is Jack the Scarecrow.
He's been around a long time.
After my grandpa died, we built this out of here. I think that's his parents,
too.
Wait, wasn't he just standing there?
Huh?
Wasn't who just standing there?
He just... Wait, what is going on?
Wait, what happened?
He was... He was standing right there.
I'm a little freaked out. Wait, wait, don't be freaked out. I just thought,
he said, Alyssa, um...
He just said, um, Alyssa, or the lady down the street, Angela.
Angela, yeah, that is the lady down the street. I said that, though. He said it
before you. I heard him say it.
Come on. I'm not even kidding you. Really?
Yeah. He's this man. I thought... I showed you the picture. Yeah, but...
What?
Remember? I turned this around and I showed you. Yeah, but I thought when we
pulled up here, he was standing right here.
Okay.
Super still.
And then it was the same.
Oh, my gosh.
And then he just moved that in there.
What do you mean? He put this.
He put this. I put this away.
Okay.
And then when you opened that, there was just, like, pieces of... Yeah, the
straw.
I saw him.
I was staring at him, and he goes, why don't they just throw all this away?
And I was like, what do you mean? He's like, oh, if it was up to me, I
wouldn't... He's like, it's all going to go to ash anyway.
And then he came over and sat down in the chair and then turned it around. So
you saw that? You heard it and saw it? Everything, yeah. That's got to be,
that's phenomenon. What's it called?
The Carbonaro effect?
Oh my gosh. Are you okay? Yeah.
Have you heard of that before, the Carbonaro Effect? The Carbonaro Effect
name of a hidden camera magic TV show that you're on right now.
You've got to be kidding me. I'm not kidding you.
I'm not kidding you.
Oh my gosh.
Totally. My name is Michael Carbonaro. Hi. I'm a magician.
Oh my gosh.
Okay, when we come back.
I'm going to have you press the green button once.
Oops, stop. Yeah, stop. No, back up. Way back. A scientific experiment goes
terribly wrong. Yeah, well, press these like this and pull that down. With bone
-chilling consequences.
Oh, my God.
Okay. Please help.
Hey, I'm Michael Carbonaro, and welcome back to Double Take 3, where we're
giving you a second look at a collection of the show's most unnerving magical
moments. There's a lever on there. You want to pull that down? Who could forget
Crystal? She was hired to assist me in a cryogenic experiment.
Okay, wait a second. Hold on. And wound up frozen in disbelief after my
patient's midsection made a bizarre transformation.
I've never seen anything like that.
Well, later that day, there was hate.
Have you ever had cryotherapy?
You know, it's like I've heard about it, but I don't think I actually know what
it is. And as you're about to see, she also had a remarkable but almost... Too
intense reaction to my medical malfunction.
My brother and I rigged the machine for muscle soreness, people who work out,
dancers, arthritis.
It really heals. Oh, amazing.
So, you know, my brother's the science guy. Oh, our next person's here. Hello.
will walk you through this. Hello.
Nice to meet you, Sarah.
Sarah, nice to meet you. Okay, great.
Come on over here. Let me have you take your shoes off. Okay.
Great. And this is Kate. Kate's going to be assisting right here at the control
center.
And do you have any areas that are hurting you or any areas that you want
focus on today?
Yeah, my lower back. Lower back. And my upper ab. Upper ab. Yeah, my oblique.
Okay, so it sounds like core area. Yeah. So we're really focusing in on the
core. Yeah. Okay, great.
So let's get you inside the machine. Come on over here. They gave you the
headphones. Yeah. This will be for your spa -like experience.
Okay. Okay, most of the times with cryotherapy chambers, people are like,
you know, they're really cold. They kind of have to endure it.
You're going to love this. You have to actually climb in like this. Okay. So
just step in and under the machine. Kind of a more isolated therapeutic.
Exactly. Very cool.
Exactly right. The same thing. Looking good.
Yes. Looking good.
Don't be nervous.
Okay. Stand straight. Good.
And.
Okay. Great.
The entire time I'm going to be giving you those headphones. Your chin is going
to go right in that rest like that. Okay. Good.
And we're going to play a little bit of music here.
And this should isolate completely.
Okay.
Relax and just zone out.
We're going to close her up.
Good. We're going to let the machine do the work.
Great.
Okay, so what I'm going to have you do, Kate, I'm going to have you press the
green button once, the aqua button, and manually you're going to pull that down.
Pulling down towards me?
Exactly right. Go ahead and do that. We're going 30 degrees, which is
what a cryotherapy machine would bring it to.
But once we get her in that state, we're actually going to go a little bit
lower. Okay?
Okay.
Very good.
She's going to feel that relax. Oops, it's stuck on 61 there. Yeah. Keep going
down.
You know what? Maybe stir the tank. There's a red button right here.
He's always going like this. Hold on.
Okay. That'll stir it. Yeah, pull it down now.
Oops, stop.
Yeah, stop. No, back up. Way back up. Press red and pull up.
Nope. All right. Press both red button.
Look, that like I was doing. Hold on a minute.
Yeah, both. Press these like this and pull that down.
Sorry about that.
Hold on. I'm going to get her out of here. Hold on a minute.
Okay. She's okay.
Okay.
What?
What the heck is going on?
What's happening? Oh, my gosh.
Oh, my gosh. Oh, my God. Hold on.
Hold on. I need...
Pull that down. Pull the lever down.
I'm holding the red button on this down.
Good.
I'm going to... Can you feel this?
No.
You're all right. You're good.
I'm feeling really numb.
It's okay.
You know what it is? I'm going to call him. Please do. My brother. Yeah, you
know what it is.
And also the...
number is stable right now right but i want it to be going up and it's not
up exactly what i'm going to call and tell him to do hello chad i'm at the
cryotherapy machine and we have somebody in here right now hold on a second all
right i will repeat it i'm pushing the two red buttons like you pushed okay
on hold on just tell him hi hold on if you can get here please we'll just tell
him there's a clearness to her body
It's dangerous. She's feeling really numb, and we need help. I think we need
to be okay. Oh, my God. Okay. We need help.
Welcome back. In this new Double Take special, we're celebrating the Carbonaro
Effect's most unsettling bricks.
When we left off, we just transformed a woman's midsection into a solid block of
ice, and Kate was struggling to keep her cool.
Oh, my God. Okay. Please help. Okay. I'm going to... She... You feel good?
I'm trying not to keep her... I'm trying to keep her calm because she's
speaking, but her body is clear in the middle. Let me... Here. I'm going to
close this. As long as she's good. So we can contain heat.
Hold down the green button.
The green button at the same time. Which green... The one you've been holding
over here. This one.
Right in the middle. Okay. Yeah.
And I'll hold this down. I'm holding down the green aqua button.
Did it do it?
Yeah. Okay, hold on a minute.
I think we got it.
Okay. Can you move a little bit?
Yeah. Yeah.
Okay.
Okay. Are you all right?
Yes. Here, I'm going to open this up like this.
I feel, like, really stiff. Yeah, yeah.
Here. Yeah, that'll loosen up as you heat up.
Yeah, you're good though, right? Yeah. Okay, here, take a robe.
Thank you so much. Yeah, thank you. You're welcome, Kate.
Nice to meet you. Oh, okay, okay, that's great.
What just happened?
I mean, I mean, but I'm so glad.
How did that happen?
I don't know.
I mean, I thought I was watching a movie for a second. It was terrifying because
it was real. Yeah. It was very scary.
What did you see? I mean, I feel like I'm crazy. No, no, no, not crazy.
I mean, I'm amazed, but I'm also just like, I don't want that to happen again
whoever's in it. You know what I mean? Yeah, I do know what you mean. Because I
just hope you take care of this because it scared me.
Don't be scared. I won't. It was like a movie. It was.
It was like the Carbonaro effect.
I don't know what that fully is, but someone was telling me about it. Someone
Reddit or something. Talking about Carbonaro Effect? Well, I have no idea
he's talking about, but he's reading the science fiction book.
Yes. Well, the Carbonaro Effect is the name of a hidden camera magic TV show.
God, I could be complaining some things.
Hey, Kate, what if I told you that you were on that show right now?
Jade, look at you.
Is that real? No, is this real?
Oh.
Congratulations on a successful trip.
That was pretty cool. I'm amazed.
And with that, I hope all of you at home enjoyed the second look into the darker
corners of the Carbonaro Effect.
Until next time.
Do you remember where we parked the car?
Right.
