Hey, I'm Michael Carbonaro. Welcome to the Carbonaro Effect, and in addition,
call cause and effect.
Gonna break the mold a little bit here tonight.
You're gonna see all new material, and we're gonna show you some never -before
-seen footage, things we never usually show you on the show. It's gonna be a
little scary, a little exciting. I think you're gonna like it.
Check it out.
Hey, what can I get you? Michael Carbonaro has an effect on people.
Hiding in plain sight. How you guys doing? He makes them fall for the
impossible.
They remember how to be tied.
This is the Carbonaro Effect.
How are you? How are you? I'm cute.
One of the things I love about this show is how people are just willing to
believe in the craziest of things. Even if I, like, break the laws of physics,
people are willing to just go with it as long as I believe in it, too.
All right, you ever work in sports memorabilia before?
No. Oh, okay.
It's an easy enough job.
Today we're going to be shipping off a sports bottle, it looks like, and a Pete
Sambers ball.
Are you a big sports fan?
Kind of. Kind of?
Oh, yeah?
Yeah. You know, well, this is a Joe Namath sports drink bottle.
Really? Yeah, fine.
Isn't that cool? Apparently he was one of the, yeah.
Wow. Cool, right?
Someone's paying like $2 ,500 for this bottle.
I know. I know.
I got a box here.
Oh, no, right here is good because then you can bring the stuff in the back when
I'm finished. Okay. Yeah.
I don't know about you, but I don't think I'd be paying $2 ,500 for a sports
bottle, right? No.
No way.
Oh,
seriously. So that.
And then we've got a ball.
You a tennis fan?
No. This one's signed by Pete Sampras.
And this guy gets $500 a ball.
Can you imagine?
He makes, like, tons of them.
So this is one order.
Yeah, one order.
Oh, no, you're right. You're right. It's two orders.
So it goes in separate boxes.
Okay. And so for the glass, is this the only filler for it? We can probably set
the whole thing. But unwrap the bottle because the bottle's going separately.
Okay. And I'll get a box for the ball.
I'm going to find a small box.
Did I miss something?
What's that? Oh, the lid? Oh.
No, how did the ball get in there?
Oh, well, that's bizarre.
That's crazy.
Hang on a second.
Well, wait, did it come out of there?
How did it get in there?
I don't know, because it doesn't... What?
It couldn't have... That's not possible.
What?
Let me get... Let me see if I can get my manager. See if you can get that out.
I'll be... Wait a minute.
Rick? Oh my gosh, that poor girl. Kelly, I'm sorry. I left her there for like an
hour trying to get that ball out of the bottle.
I'm just kidding. Half hour. 45 minutes.
Top.
Now here's something.
Submitted for your approval. Trevor, an ordinary man trying to check into an
ordinary hotel when suddenly things go a bit... backwards?
Welcome, Mr.
Olapur. Olapur?
That's backwards, man. That's pretty crazy.
Olapur Rover.
Olapur Rover?
Oh, it's backwards?
Yeah. Oh, my gosh.
You know what? It might be the strip on your card. Have you ever had the strip
on your card reversed before?
Wow. That's probably what it is. It happens all the time. When it runs
the system, it comes up backwards.
Weird. It's an easy fix here. I'll fix it for you.
They reverse like in ATMs or... Huh.
Let's see.
Let me just flip it back the right way.
There you go. Yeah, they twist around.
Let me give that another try.
Wow. All right. That's... That's right.
Excellent. Well, welcome to the Georgian Terrace.
What in the world?
Hmm? What was that? Like, you feel the... Yeah, the strip.
It flips over in a lot of different machines. How did you peel it off?
I peeled it off to turn it around so that it's facing the right way.
It doesn't peel off? Yeah, once it's put back in place the correct way, it
should stay there for at least 30 days.
If you notice it coming up backwards, it means it got flipped, and then you'll
be able to just peel it up and switch it around.
All right, I'm a little confused.
I know, me too.
See you later, Trevor.
Carbonaro backwards?
Oronobroc?
I figured that out all by myself.
Thank you.
You know, some people ask me if any of the tricks that I do, do I wish that
were really possible? And the answer is yes. I wish all of them were really
possible, especially this next one.
Now, Fallon here, she let it slip that this was her first time in a dry
cleaner's.
Big mistake.
It's your first time in a dry cleaner. I'm going to show you how to do some of
the secret techniques here.
You stuff it all inside the bag.
Not a lot of people know about this technique. This is a really good one
There we go.
Get that shirt in there for you.
And when they're all bunched up in there like that, sort of like the flip
technique. Watch.
All right. You hit them on the seam.
Got you.
No way. Yeah.
Get him?
What is it?
No. Isn't that great?
No. Yep.
Most clothes that are made now have pressure points on the seams, so it's
hitting them in the right spots, even inside of a bag.
Hi, I'm Michael Carbonaro. Welcome back to The Carbonaro Effect. In a moment,
I'm going to ask you to place your palm on your television screen. Do it now.
You're actually going to start to feel the heat from my palm touching your
And if anyone believed that, even for half a second, that's why our show
See, people, they believe in things, especially technology. Because
is happening all around us. We don't know how it works. It just works, right?
Like, take Elizabeth here.
She thought she was coming to work for me and my boss, Jack, for the day, and
she ended up learning a few high -tech office secrets.
Get the storage closet key from Michael.
Storage closet key? I'm sorry, right on the desk in front of the yellow pad. Is
it not there?
It's like a little green key.
No. All right, we have an office port machine.
So, with teletags, so you can retrieve it if you want.
Oh, have you not seen one of those before?
Oh, here, here, here, I'll show you how this works.
Okay.
Yeah, it's a little office port machine, so you put teletags on it. You know,
these are like coded barcodes, so if you lose something, you can retrieve it in
the machine. You know how, like, they have a find my phone, if you lose your
phone, you can find it again?
Uh -huh. Yeah, so the key we lose more than anything, so it just goes inside
there, and then just puts it, and then you can...
retrieve the key because it has the teletag on it.
We got the key?
Yeah.
I will bring the boxes in. You can help me pack it up. Well, Elizabeth, you stay
with me.
Yeah, I'll bring them in. They're heavy. So I'll bring them in.
Where did you get the key from?
It was already in here?
No, no, no. It's coded.
It's coded so anything you put a teletag on comes back into the machine.
You've not heard of that?
Never in my life. Really?
Oh, it's like all over the internet.
Why? It's like people put them on their keys. Some people have these little mini
ones for jewelry and stuff.
Yeah, so that if you lose it, you can bring it back.
Oh, wow. That's crazy. It's pretty cool, right? Yeah. Yeah.
I've been buying lunch with the same $20 bill for the whole week that I ruined
it. Oh, no.
Yeah, once they show this to me, because I'll put a little teller tag on it, and
it will be the same bill.
What?
So, can you show me that again?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll show you. And it's the same one.
Let me see your name tag.
Look at this.
We'll put this on here.
And come over here.
Okay. I'm going to open this drawer.
They just paid for lunch, and that's the cash register.
Okay? Stand in front of that drawer.
I pay for lunch.
I come back to the office.
Close the register.
Yep. And stay right there.
Right? And then look at this.
Just look.
When I come back to the office, I press the button, they'll go check.
Open.
No way.
Yes. How does that even work?
It has the teletag on it. Look. But how does that even transport?
It has, well, and the key, too, because it had the teletag on it. Don't get me
drunk. What?
Knock it off. Oh, the key. I'm sorry.
We cannot use that for money. No, I was showing her that we do it with money. I
don't really use it for money.
I want to talk to you. Okay.
Okay. Here, would you give him the key?
Give him the key. It's not a toy.
Knock it off. I will. Okay.
He's crazy.
Do me a favor.
Count like five seconds, then press the button.
Okay. And open it again.
Okay? Really? Yeah, just like five seconds.
He's going to go, no, no, no, just five seconds.
Or ten.
I'm going to break the rules and tell you how I did that last one.
I secretly put a real teleporter inside the weird bagel maker looking
thingy.
So now you know.
You can show your friends that one.
Okay. Joke for you. How many hands does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Answer? One. As long as it's a right hand and not a left bulb.
What? Confused? Yes.
And so was my friend Michael here, who was hired to help out with a few home
repairs. And I think the lessons were illuminating.
Can you stand here? You can reach this, right? Yeah.
Okay, let me get a bowl.
And... There you go.
Sure.
Got it?
Yep. All right, I think that worked.
No?
Not on?
No.
It's secured in there.
Is it tight?
Mm -hmm. You know, this is so weird.
Maybe a different one? No, no, no, that should be it.
Tight?
Yes. These old houses sometimes, they're like short.
Because that's the new bulb.
I mean, it doesn't look shot or blown or anything.
Oh, wait a minute. That one illuminates, though.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's what it is.
There's a left -handed bowl?
What side is that on? Is that left?
I don't know how you determine what... This one is not...
Yeah, the same as... This one is... This is a left -handed bowl.
Are you lefty?
No. Okay. But I think I can figure it out.
There we go.
No?
Oh, wait, I'm holding it in my left hand. Right hand, and then... You get
Yeah. What hand did you touch it with?
Left. Yeah, the left -handed bulb.
Oh, I... How does that work?
These old houses are all wired for specific left -handed, right -handed
Okay. Yeah, so that should work now.
Yeah, so if it's a left -handed bulb, there's a little L on the bottom.
Oh, all right. And then when you screw it in, you have to...
Screw it with your left hand. I have no idea. I think it's the thumb.
Okay. How does it actually, how does it know you have your left hand?
I think it's the way you turn something.
Your thumb is pushing it a certain way.
Like these old houses, all the wiring is crazy.
It has to be so specific.
Check that again for me. I'll be right back. I'll get some more right -handed
bulbs.
Oh my gosh, that's so mean that I just leave him there.
You know, every now and then I meet some people that I feel like I can get away
with saying anything to them. And I love these people. Like Kathia and her
friend Ray. I could have spent the entire afternoon with these two.
Take a look.
Well, you're eating grapes. It's kind of like wine.
This machine makes either red or white wine.
Not out of grapes, but out of raisins.
Do you want to see red or white wine?
Red. Red wine.
Okay. Then we would use these raisins. These are a Malbec raisin.
Put these inside here.
It uses fresh raisins instead of using grapes because, you know, good wines are
really aged.
Right.
Well, raisins are like aged grapes.
So it goes inside here and this recreates the process of being fermented
barrel with speed. And it's pretty quiet. Listen.
And you have fresh wine.
Isn't that something?
Yeah. And what's good about it is raisins make a nice aged wine.
Here, why don't you try that? Wow.
Hey, Roy, he's making wine over here.
Well, he's a good thing. That's a fresh glass of wine.
And you just have to be careful if you get one of these. The longer you press
this down, the more alcohol it will extract from the raisin. Uh -oh.
Yeah.
So I just did it very lightly.
I know. Are you driving?
Yeah. If you just, just for five seconds, you could make a very light
wine. If you hold it longer, if you're like going to be just in for the night,
like to let that mother go for like two minutes.
When it's homemade, it's better.
Hey, Michael Carbonaro here. Thanks for watching The Carbonaro Effect.
Right now, we're going to show you some never -before -seen footage, things we
never usually show you here.
I get a lot of people who ask me, do things ever not go as you planned?
And the short answer is yes.
Take Faye, for example, here.
Faye, as you'll see, is completely amazed by the wonder of my magic, except
she's not at all.
It ends up becoming more like a visit from a favorite grandma.
Take a look.
So that's for you, right?
Are you picking that up today?
No, no.
No, I'm just having copies made of my pictures.
Oh, you're not picking this up today?
No, I'm not forced to get anything like that. Oh, this one's for me. This says
open on site.
I have these sent from South America because the way they package these
you know, they invert the air inside so it keeps the fruit fresh.
Oh, I have to get that dressed and do that.
Okay, she wants to get the address, because that's impressive, right? That a
company would deliver a watermelon in a flat box. Did you not see the... It's
amazing what some people don't notice that's right in front of them. Oh, yeah.
You know? I'm a wise old woman. Yep. Do you still feel that?
Feel cold and fresh.
I literally have no idea what to do now, so... Should I cut it open and have a
piece together?
I would love that. Let's do it.
You know? I would love that. Let's get right in there.
There you go. Pardon my fingers all over that, but it's for you. Oh, great.
Yeah.
It's good, right?
Fresh.
You can't get them that fresh anywhere else.
When it's flat, it's fresh.
I didn't have the heart to tell her that it wasn't real.
I sent her a fruit basket squished in a pizza box.
Sometimes on the show, we also deal with just the plain bizarre.
Earlier this season, I impressed a coffee shop customer by re -beaning
grounds back into beans.
Well, there was another customer, Sylvia.
She'd been there, done that, wasn't impressed at all. In fact, she was more
experienced, it seemed, at re -beaning than I was.
Take a look.
Here, I'm going to show you.
I know how it works. You do? Yeah. Oh, okay. I used to have a coffee shop.
Oh, okay, yeah.
You used to run it through? Yeah. More than once? Yeah. How many times did you
do it?
It depended on the bean, you know. Yeah. Where'd you get your re -beating oil
from?
I don't even remember. It was so long ago.
Yeah. Really?
Seriously, though? Really? Did you hear that?
Tell me if I'm doing this right.
A few drops onto the grounds, right? That's enough.
That's enough? You don't need that much.
Okay. But now I'm going to actually turn them into beans, and let's watch her
brain get fried, right?
Oh, yeah.
Ta -da.
Wow, that's great.
I remember.
Yeah, you did remember.
All right, I'm going to sit down. Oh, okay, great. And I'll get your beans for
you, and we'll all wake up from this nightmare.
Hook, line, and fail.
Welcome back to the Carbonaro Effect. I'm Michael Carbonaro.
You know, some of my favorite moments on this show, it's not when I'm tricking
people or fooling them. It's actually when I get to reveal to them that
on a show. Let them off the hook. That's when they go crazy and I see the really
big smiles. I really get to meet them.
And you guys don't always get to see that stuff.
So I thought I would show you here some of my most favorite reveals.
Take a look.
Yeah, it's like, I think it's something that a certain time of day, things can
look different reflectively. I don't know about that. It's called the
effect. Have you heard of that? I don't know what it was, but that was really
strange. You never heard of that before, the Carbonaro effect? No. Oh, it's also
the name of a hidden camera magic TV show?
Is that what you're doing? Is that what you're on right now?
Oh my God!
I told you!
Have you heard of that? The Carbonaro effect?
Oh, it's also the name of a hidden camera magic TV show.
Are you being serious right now? I'm being serious right now, yes.
Oh my God!
It's like photosynthesis, but it's more like a, what is that called? Oh, hidden
camera magic TV show.
That you're all on right now. Oh my God.
Yeah, the way they say the movements look so realistic, it's a kind of
called the Carbonaro Effect.
It's also the name of a hidden camera magic TV show.
Oh, like a... Like the one you're on right now.
Oh, no, it's not.
Oh, yes, it is. Oh, no, it's not. Oh, yes, it is. No, it's not. Yes, it is.
it's not.
Yes, it is. No, it's not.
Oh, yes.
This, my friend, is a duck.
