get my checkbook out, and I'm looking at

this Rufino Tamayo lithograph, this
figure.

Doesn't have any facial features, not
many anatomical details, but it's

a man. And he's got his fist thrust into
the sky. There's this crescent moon and

this feeling of defiance, of
determination, of

pride.

It's just, here I am.

And I couldn't deny it anymore.

I didn't want to own any more art. I
wanted to create it.

So that's when you quit your job as a
stockbroker. Yeah, yeah. Next day.

Any regrets?

Not really.

It's funny.

You know, the things I can't afford now
won't work.

They were mostly things that I bought
back then because I think I was trying

fill this need, you know, that
ultimately these things wouldn't fill
