Original subtitles

Hi, I'm Brian Henson.

This episode of The Muppet Show stars Harry Belafonte.

He's an amazing guy. He's very spiritual, very powerful. Once you've

Belafonte, your life changes.

Undoubtedly, Harry's most important contribution to this episode is the

number. It's a mystical African song called Turn the World Around.

The African

mass puppets were built especially for this number.

Years later, Harry did a reprise of this song at my father's memorial service.

It was probably the most important and powerful moment in the whole ceremony.

Harry continues to be a great friend.

to the family. He was a great friend of my father's, and this is where we all

met. Here he is in The Muppet Show.

Harry Belafonte!

30 seconds to curtain, Mr. Belafonte.

Thank you, Scooter.

Say, is everything all right?

Oh, yeah, everything's okay.

Except, you know, I haven't even done the show yet, and already somebody

to put me down. No.

Oh, what do you mean?

Just now I heard somebody outside my door say, don't go inside that dressing

room. Crazy Harry's in there. Oh, well, they didn't mean you. You see, Crazy

Harry's a mu... Crazy Harry?

It's The Muppet Show with our very special guest star, Harry Belafonte!

I've seen enough. Let's leave.

Thank you.

Fozzie, this is not going to work.

Just read off the page, Frog.

Leggies and jungle funds.

Leggies and jungle funds?

Leggies and jungle funds.

All right, so my typing is bad.

Leggies and jungle funds.

Welcome again, Tidy Muppet Shocks.

My name is Kermit the Forg.

The Forg?

Come on, pick up the pace. Here we go.

And our spiky old guest, Stapp, is the amazing Harry Belafonte, folks.

Come it.

Your timing must be off. You should be getting big laughs with that stuff.

That was beautiful.

Thank you very much, but I'm not finished with the song yet.

Oh, yeah, but boy, that was terrific. I bet you must have sang that song a bunch

of times on TV, huh?

No, no, as a matter of fact, this is the very first time.

This here in the Muppet Show is the very first time you sang this. The very

first time.

That's why it's very special to me. You bet it is. And to us too. I tell you

what, we're gonna do it up really perfect.

Hey pigs, pigs, come on in.

This is your pig chorus.

Okay, and I'll take care of everything else. Don't worry. This is gonna be

great.

Are you sure?

Trust me.

Excuse me. I'm sorry. Excuse me. What is a tally man?

What is what?

A telly man. You're saying telly man. What's that?

Well, he's the boss.

The telly man is the guy who counts the bananas as they go into the hold of the

ship. And without him, there's just no work. He's a very important man.

Ah, could I be a telly man?

Sure. Oh, yeah?

Terrific.

Okay, here we am, the telly man or the telly bear.

Okay, we got the telly bear, and now we got the boat, the chorus with the pigs

and the parrot.

Okay, keep singing. This is going to be great.

Are you sure we have everything?

Sure. How about the bananas?

The what?

Bananas. We need bananas. The banana boat song. We have to have bananas.

Good thinking.

I've got just the man.

All right, guys.

Yes. Come here. Come here. You've got a job.

Get bananas for this song.

Okay. Okay.

Go ahead. This is just going to be great.

He's going to get the bananas?

He's going to get the bananas, and the song's going to be wonderful now.

Are you sure?

Trust me.

That's what you said the last time.

Come, Mr.

Tallyman, tally me banana.

Daylight come and me wanna go home. Come, Mr.

Tallyman, tally me banana.

It's bananas.

Daylight come and me wanna go home. Lift six and seven and eight and punch.

Daylight come and me wanna go home.

Six, five, seven, eight, nine, punch. I don't even know what those are.

They're bananas.

They're yellow.

They're bananas.

Keep singing.

He's ready.

Don't you understand? Don't you understand?

No,

no,

no, no, no. I don't work with a deadly tarantula. I don't work with a deadly

tarantula. Alice, please.

Wait, wait, wait.

Alice, please.

Come on, what are you waiting for? Wait a minute, please. Look, don't worry

about the tarantula.

Don't worry about the pineapples and the onions. Look, this is the first time

I'm doing this on television.

I really would like to get it right.

I'd like it to look good for other people.

Come on, I mean, won't you help me out? Let's pull together, okay? Okay, right.

Everybody ready, okay? Just watch me, okay? It'll work. Do you really think

it'll work?

Trust me.

I live six and seven and eight and bunch.

Daylight come and me one go home.

Six and seven and eight and bunch.

Come Mr.

Tallyman, tally me banana. They like come when me one go home.

Come Mr.

Tallyman, tally me banana.

They like come when...

all together? Yes sir, I'm sorry.

in the first place.

Okay, nice number, nice number. We got some crackers in the kitchen.

Hey, Kermit, oh, we thought these were species.

Hey, hey, watch out, watch out, Kermit. Oh, God, watch out.

Let's see.

Where was I here? Where was I? Ralph in New Zealand on stage for the musical

moment. Oh, that's it, the musical moment, yeah.

Fuzzy, what are you doing with this typewriter on my table?

Kermit, I am writing the script for this week's show.

What makes you think the show needs a script?

Oh, come on.

Every show has a script.

Yeah, that way you leave nothing to chance.

Hey, guys, guys, hey, hey, hey.

Here is the musical moment for this week.

Uh, curtains open.

Lou Zealand and Ralph do something funny.

Curtains close.

Go get him!

You leave nothing to chance, huh?

Trust me.

Do you know T for two?

T for two? I know it backwards.

Oh, good, because that's the way we want to hear it.

Good, because that's the way I'm going to sing it.

Much very, you think.

Mine was pleasure, thee.

Now, time once again for Pigs in Space!

What's old stupid doings?

I'm not doing a thing.

Well, the answer's been called.

Not you, stupid dear.

The stupid on the end.

Ah, yes. I'm perfecting my dissolvetron.

Ooh, what is that?

What does it do?

It does this.

And it does this.

Hey,

you! What a wonderful trick.

Do that again.

Well,

it's very simple, Link. You see, this ray dissolves anything I point it at.

And then it will undissolve you thusly.

And there you are.

Exactly as we were before.

Maybe not exactly.

But this is terrible. I can't live my life being you.

You think you've got troubles.

Of course, I am kind of cute this way.

Watch it, watch it. Don't you dare touch you.

Strange pork, this is all your fault.

Yeah, yeah. What do you have to say to yourself?

Ew, this is a bummer. I mean, really.

Something has gone wrong with my...

This is definitely not my scene.

Oh, come in! Come in! Help! Where are you? Come in! Come in!

Oh, come in! That does it. The sketch is cancelled.

Kill the lights.

Strike the scenery.

Thank you.

Oh, no.

Oh, this is so embarrassing.

I wonder if this ever happened to Neil Simon.

Oh, boy. Hey, Fonzie. Oh, hi.

Hi, Ralph.

How's it going?

Oh, well, gosh, I, um... I, uh, um... You're stuck, huh?

Yeah. Well, this then happens to all writers.

This does?

Sure, it's what's called writer's block.

Oh, oh, oh. You know where you can't come up with the next line. Yes, well, I

can't come up with the next line.

Well, maybe I can help.

Let me see what you last wrote here.

Stop!

Hello, sports fans.

Louis Kazaker bringing you the wild world of Muppet Sports.

You join us today for the start of the 100 -meter blindfold... And the

finalists are on their marks.

And they can't see a thing.

Not even the starting flat.

So he'll try the pistol.

And there they go. And there. And there and over there.

Yes. Number zero.

Knocked down by number two. He's up again.

Number seven looking like a man of action.

Number zero knocked down again.

This time by number six. Zero off to the side. Six is off. Here comes two

looking.

What's that?

Why did they do it?

How's the writing going, Foss?

Oh, boy, I didn't know it'd be that tough, Harry.

Oh, well, you know, you write a lot of stuff.

No, not really.

No, well, I write songs.

Oh, yeah, they're terrific, too. Hey, how do you get ideas for all those

Well, they don't come easily. You have to get inspired.

You like the song we're going to do next?

Mm -hmm.

I discovered that song in Africa.

I was in a country called Guinea.

And I went deep into the interior of the country.

And in a little village, I met with a storyteller.

And that storyteller went way back into African tradition and African mythology.

He began to tell the story about the fire, which means the sun, about the

and about the earth.

And then he pointed out that all of these things put together turn the world

around. And that all of us...

We're here for a very, very short time.

And in that time that we're here, there really isn't any difference in any of

us, if we were to take time out to understand each other.

And the question is, do I know who you are?

Do you know who I am?

Do we care about each other? Because if we do, together we can turn the world

around.

We come from the fire, living in fire, go back to the fire, turn the world

around.

We come from the water, living in the water, go back to the water, turn the

world around.

We come from the mountain, living on the mountain, go back to the mountain, turn

the world around. We come from the mountain, living on the mountain, go

the mountain, turn the world around.

We come from the mountain, living on the mountain, go back to the mountain, turn

the world around.

So it's like, do you know who I am? Do I know who

you are? See, we want another.

Clearly, do we know who we are? Do you know who I am? Who I am?

So is life.

Water make the river, river wash, mountain fire make the sunlight turn the

around. Heart is of the river, body is the mountain, spirit is the sunlight

the world around. We are of the spirit, truly of the spirit, only can the spirit

turn the world around.

We are of the spirit, truly of the spirit, only can the spirit turn the

around. Do you know who I am? Do I know?

Do we know who we

are?

Thank you.

a great show that we can hardly bring ourselves to end it. And we all know who

we have to thank for that.

The script writer.

No, no, the guest star. And so thank you from all of us, Mr. Harry Palafonte.

This is the greatest group of singers I've ever worked with. The Muppets.

Night, all.

Thank you. We'll see you next time on The Muppet Show.
