…snatching the top spot from the Shark Docs.

Now we head to South Africa,

home to the highest concentration of great white sharks on Earth.

This is, like, my great white shark nightmare.

Because in this competition,

spotting a few sharks isn't enough.

You have to find…

on our worldwide sharky tour,

Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

That's what you're gonna be diving in.

Everything you've been through before is child's play

compared to this rugged landscape.

This is where we separate the sharks from the minnows.

The conditions are definitely gonna be harder here.

Obviously, it's all to play for, and the pressure's on.

Looking forward to the cold waters?

-Yes, sir! -Absolutely not.

Before we go any further,

for one of you, this will be your final stop.

Before we leave South Africa,

we'll tally your score from every location so far.

The team with the lowest total score will be eliminated.

-I'm not ready to go home. -I'm not ready to go home. Yeah.

No. I'd… I'd be surprised if we went home, given the lead that we have.

Not saying it's not possible.

Nobody should be complacent.

We are definitely feeling the pressure. Um…

We know we're in second place, but everybody's just so close.

If we go home, I will be gutted.

South Africa is one of the sharkiest places on the planet,

famous for its great white sharks.

So you guys are gonna wanna keep your head on a swivel.

Your task is simple.

There's 200 species of sharks in these waters.

You have eight hours to come out on top

and ensure that you don't go home early.

-You ready for this? -Yes!

-I said are you ready for this?! -Yeah!

Right! Kit up and head out!

Watch out! Watch out!

I'm ready to dive. South Africa.

South Africa's waters are as wild as the predators that hunt here.

But for sharks, this chaos is home.

The constant movement pulls in nutrient-rich upwellings,

attracting over 200 species of sharks,

including many found nowhere else on Earth.

And then there are the great whites.

Massive, powerful, unpredictable.

This coastline has one of the highest concentrations on the planet.

And for the teams diving here,

they are an ever-present inescapable force demanding respect.

For that reason,

catching one on camera will earn 65 points.

But not all the sharks here are giants.

The elusive shyshark, small and well camouflaged,

is one of South Africa's rarest finds.

And in this competition, that makes it high value.

One shot is worth 15 points.

With all of the scores up to this point tallied,

the Shark Docs hold the top spot,

with Gills Gone Wild close behind.

The Land Sharks sit in third,

while British Bait Off trails in last place.

But in this competition, that could all change in an instant.

Well, uh, we're headed to shark alley.

And we're praying that, with its name,

we see an alleyway full of sharks.

Hopefully, it's not a sketchy alleyway, but a welcoming one.

With strong currents and murky waters,

getting to the sharks won't be easy.

So, to bring them in closer,

each team gets 50 pounds of raw fish to chum the waters.

Because what could go wrong hand-delivering dinner to a shark?

You're the bait queen.

It's initiation.

-It's kind of relaxing. -It's therapeutic.

All right. Chum's ready. Big bag of fish for us.

We're making a bait bag to bring along with us,

so the oil is slowly seeping out from the bag.

So that hopefully brings in bigger sharks.

We don't have too much of an edge on the Brits, so everything counts.

I think, here, I want to look for a higher-point species.

Go a little deeper, see if we can get some of those bigger-value sharks.

What we can't afford is a day-one nothing.

Like, we can't goose-egg day one.

It's too close.

Three, two, one, go!

Not the vis I was hoping for,

but large sharks actually love the cover of murkier water,

so let's see if it helps us.

Hopefully, the bait will draw 'em in too.

Randy! Pajama shark, one o'clock.

Like it's wearing pajamas, the pajama shark is impossible to miss

with its bold striped pattern.

A nocturnal hunter, it glides through the reefs at night,

using its whiskers to track prey in the sand.

Small but stealthy, it's a master of squeezing into tight, rocky crevices

to avoid predators.

Got it. Good spot.

Let's keep hunting for the big ones, Randy,

but the little ones count too.

Okay, let's go. Let's go… Shyshark Reef.

Gills Gone Wild, sitting pretty in second place,

are kicking things off with a clear game plan.

Rack up points early by tracking down high-value shysharks.

Do you think we should start a chum slick here?

Uh, I just… I don't know. I just don't feel like it's the way to go, you know?

That's fine. We can do our first feed--

I just don't feel comfortable.

If we do a chum slick, I know that we're gonna draw a lot of sharks,

but visibility is horrible here.

I don't know what's behind me, what's in front of me.

At this point, I don't feel comfortable doing it.

I wouldn't want to attract a great white.

That is the one shark that I… would be really careful with, myself.

Yeah.

The respect I have for sharks is huge,

and that respect also comes with fear.

-So… -Yeah, that… that makes sense.

-Well, let's not do it now. -Especially with ten-feet visibility, so…

If we start to feel more comfortable, maybe we can… test the waters, but yeah.

Just to start, I don't want to chum.

Okay. That's fine.

I'm not liking this visibility one bit.

Let's just get to the bottom.

Let's get into these gullies, and I'll watch for the sharks above.

Keep your eye out for shysharks below.

Aliah, pajama shark behind you!

Jeez, they are fast when they pop out.

With this visibility, there's no way we're getting a photo of anything

unless it's really close.

Wait, I think I see one hiding in a crack.

Girl, hold on to the rocks. You'll get blown away.

Aliah!

We just gotta time the surge.

Got it! Whoo!

You are my hero. That's three points!

No way we'll find the shysharks like this.

We need the sharks to come to us.

I feel like you're saying we need to bring chum next time.

Yeah, that's exactly what I'm thinking.

It's freezing down here. Let's just get out of here.

I wouldn't wish to freeze my butt with anybody else.

-For a 40-minute dive, but it's okay. -For a 40-minute dive.

-Three points. -Hopefully, everyone struggled.

Yeah. The thing that's fueling me right now is Rosie and Randy

because they're close… closer to the bottom.

I think they're gonna be pushing really hard.

Everybody's going, going, going

except for the Brits because they're definitely going home.

It's just a game of chicken. Who's all talk? Who's gonna actually show?

-God, look at that. -Decent swell.

Yeah. Whoo!

It always seems like habitats that look like this

are always the places where you find the white sharks.

With a solid lead, the Shark Docs aren't sweating it,

sticking to a reef close to shore, just playing it safe.

We're doing well right now, so we just wanna get consistent points

and not really risk it for the high-risk, high-reward sites.

We're pretty concerned about bringing bait down

in a place that we don't know very well.

We don't know what animals will be here, how big they are.

So we want to play it slow, play it smart. We want to get comfortable first.

Whoa, you can feel the surge already.

Man, it's rough down here.

Even if we had brought bait with us,

I'm not sure it would stick around long enough to bring in any sharks.

Oh yeah. Wow.

We're just getting pushed around back and forth. This is nuts.

Let's move into the gullies. That's where we'll find our sharks.

Stay close, Chris. Don't lose me.

More surge. Hang on!

I think we call it.

Conditions are brutal, and we're just burning air down here.

I'm with you. Let's chalk this up as an L

and get back to the drawing board.

That dive was somethin'.

Disaster.

Thank God, we are… in the lead right now 'cause this…

That was so dumb.

-You guys getting on? -Yeah, we're gonna come up.

On this dive, the currents were just not what we expected them to be,

and we got a little bit disoriented under there.

Chris, I think, given the degree of difficulty on that dive,

bait is gonna be, like, pretty critical.

Yeah, thank God we're in the lead right now

because if all of our dives go as poorly as that one did,

we're gonna be in big trouble here.

Whoa.

About to jump in…

in basically the middle of the ocean

it feels like right now.

But apparently, there's a reef under here.

Chasing clearer waters, the Brits are heading far from shore.

Better vis means spotting sharks from a distance,

and, ideally, not getting too cozy with a great white.

So where's your trepidation coming from?

It's more just the unknown.

I've never actually been in the water with a great white before.

Coupling that with limited visibility.

This has been the basis of our conversation for the last few days.

Me trying to convince Sarah that she's got nothing to worry about

and Sarah throwing all these scenarios at me of, "What if this happens?"

For me, it's just gonna be, like, getting comfortable with the unknown

if we've got awful vis.

Yeah, it's just the last place I really wanna meet a great white shark,

if I'm honest.

Four foot away from my face. Um…

But yeah, if we see one from the boat, I'll be stoked.

We wanna chum a little bit on the dive, right?

Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

So we have a little bit just to put some pieces down,

but we save some in the bag.

Right.

We're fully aware that we're in last place,

so we're gonna have to put in a monumental effort to pull this back.

If we're gonna go out, we have to go out fighting.

But we have to put in 200% effort,

and I have to completely ignore any of my fear.

Go!

Oh my gosh. It's so murky down here.

Da-da, da-da

Now I feel like we've entered my favorite horror film.

-Loving this visibility. -We'll be fine.

Let's just get the bait bag set up and keep our eyes peeled.

Speaking of, why do I have to be the one that's holding the bait?

Someone's got to take the photos.

Over here looks as good a spot as any. What do you reckon?

All right, I'm gonna chuck it under some rocks.

Okay. Hopefully, the current is gonna spread the chum

and start bringing in the sharks.

I need to check this 'cause I think I might've flooded it.

That was terrifying.

I can't believe that Dan surfaced without me

and left me down there.

What happened? I thought you'd just got lost.

I can't believe he just left me in great white shark territory.

There could literally have been a great white right in front of me,

staring me in the face.

I wouldn't even have known.

And the thoughts going through my head about Dan being eaten. Mm.

This is horrendous. I was confused as to why you weren't next to me.

Yeah, so I started to descend, and I noticed this little cable was there.

-You flooded? -Yeah.

With the housing flooded, it's useless until I fix it.

Do you want to take a GoPro instead? Or is it gonna be okay?

I can rerig this, like, literally, less than ten minutes.

This doesn't make any difference. Like, you can get it with a GoPro anyway.

And then this will be fine. It can dry.

If we wanna stay in this game right now, we absolutely have to be underwater.

We're just losing time.

Everyone else could be racking up points,

and we're sat on a boat while Dan fixes his camera.

It's less than ideal, to be honest.

Would work the same, but…

Whoa! Did you see that? A big guy just went down that gully.

Should I go after it?

Closer to shore,

the Land Sharks have the good sense to use their chum,

and it's paying off.

I don't know. I mean, that thing was big and quick.

And with the chum, I think we might smell like food.

No, I hear you.

Let's chum this gully and be prepared for us to circle back.

Okay, but just don't get too close whatever you are.

Oh my God. Randy, I think that's actually a bigger one.

Where is it?

I have no idea. Just be ready.

It's at our feet! At our feet!

It's a baby raggy!

The ragged tooth shark, or raggy, is a living relic.

It's been around for 28 million years.

It can grow and shed 20,000 teeth over a lifetime,

replacing them to stay battle ready.

Slow, stealthy, and rocking a snaggletoothed grin,

it's a true icon of South Africa's waters.

All right, now here comes an even bigger one.

Hey, let's go! Two raggies in the bag.

Make that three!

That last one just stole all of our bait.

Man, he can have it.

Three-raggy dive. Let's go!

Forget not getting eliminated. Let's win this thing.

-All right, am I kitting up? -Kitting up.

Yeah? Good.

After a leaky camera and a bit of British bickering,

British Bait Off is back.

Same remote spot and one goal.

Get sharks,

get points, and get out of last place.

Swell's picked up, Dan. We'd better be careful.

Our bait's been down there for a while. Who knows what might have turned up?

Okay, there's the bait bag. Keep your eyes peeled.

Pajama shark!

Another one!

We've got leopard catsharks showing up now.

This is what we needed.

Found nowhere else on Earth,

the leopard catshark is one of the most striking creatures

in South African waters.

But its beauty and its appetite

have made it coveted by the aquarium trade,

and blamed by fisheries for eating valuable bait.

This dazzling species is under growing pressure.

Please tell me you're getting pictures of all these sharks.

Of course.

Turns out that bait was pretty effective, hey?

Finally! It looks like we're onto something here, mate.

Yay!

I am so glad we brought the bait with us.

I think if you took that competition and the points away from it,

I think I probably would've been a hell of a lot more nervous.

-Sharks? -So many sharks!

I think once you've, like, got something else to focus on,

you can tune out… fears.

I would say that's a pretty good first day.

-Let's go back, get warm, and, uh… -Cup of tea.

…come up with a plan for tomorrow, and get a cup of tea.

A single day in South Africa and some strategic chumming

has changed everything for British Bait Off,

catapulting them into second place overall.

Meanwhile, the Land Sharks are giving it everything they've got

to stay in the game.

And with three teams neck and neck, it's a battle for survival.

It's day two, and by the end of today,

the team with the lowest combined overall score will be going home.

Standings are tighter than ever,

but the tide can turn in an instant, and today could bring anything.

-Yeah. -Hey, mister bird, get away from my chum!

-Oh, hell no! -No!

It is the last day, and someone's getting eliminated, so…

We're giving it all we got.

Time to give it… give it our all till the last… last breath.

So we're bringing the chum bag under this time?

'Cause I think that we beat ourselves up the last time we didn't bring it.

We were like, "Damn. Should've."

Today, we are chumming.

I am still a little nervous about it, but we cannot risk coming empty again,

so… it's time to get brave.

and start chumming.

We can follow it down current and hopefully see some sharks.

That was fast. That's a good sign.

I just got my first kiss by a shark.

All right. Let's keep just following the current.

Yesterday, we had a great day.

So today, we've gotta make sure that we're being smart,

using our time wisely, and getting after it today.

We need some sharks.

Counting on a repeat of yesterday's success,

the Land Sharks have returned to their proven hunting ground.

We drop in and there's no vis,

we call it, we go up, and we re-drop somewhere else 'cause we can't waste time.

Three, two, one, go!

Randy, this visibility, it's so nice, right?

Yeah, the vis is real bad.

Let's just head down and do our best. I mean, we have to try.

Seriously, can you see anything down here?

Literally no.

There's no way we're gonna see a shark down here,

let alone getting a picture of one.

They'd have to find us.

Our chances are better at a couple other sites around here.

Yeah, you're right. Let's go.

Damn, man.

As soon as we got down there, I was like, "Nope."

I was like, "Give me just, like, five minutes to see."

As soon as you get down there and you see it's like that, we end it.

All right, where do we wanna go next?

-These are all pelagics. -They're all in the deeper bits.

So we've got bronze whaler, smooth hammerhead, dusky blue…

Well, great whites, right?

With the prospect of going home ever present,

the Great British Bait Off have selected one of the deepest dive sites

with the hopes of encountering a shark species the other teams have not.

Perhaps even the great white.

Got more fish in here?

Yeah, put it all in. It's gonna be a last-ditch attempt to use it.

And counting!

I can't even see the bottom.

Let's just get down so we don't miss the reef.

Here we go. Massive ledge.

Okay, I guess we just follow that, eh?

Keep your eyes peeled. There could be anything here.

Dan, look! Right below us! A raggy!

Nice! It's a start.

Yeah, let's keep working our way down till we get to about 100 feet.

Maybe we'll see some bigger species.

Turn on your light.

I think I see something down in the coral.

Oh, nice one!

It's a puffadder shyshark.

That's 15 points.

The puffadder shyshark

is South Africa's tiny underwater escape artist.

When threatened, it curls up into a doughnut,

hiding its head like it's just vanished.

Named after the venomous puffadder snake,

it's rare, well-camouflaged, and a high-value find in this competition.

Dan!

I think I might see another over the ledge.

Amazing.

Okay, lets switch gears and keep looking at the floor

as we head even deeper.

-Let's keep an eye on our dive watches. -Copy that.

As yet, no team has seen a great white,

and time is running out.

Elusive and unpredictable,

they can emerge from the depths in total silence.

And if one shows up now, it could decide the entire competition.

I'm excited to see what we might find on this… this dive site though.

Hopefully something good. Something new.

After a 90-minute ride to the depths,

the Shark Docs are chumming for big points.

With the other teams closing in,

their lead might not be as safe as they thought.

Honestly, this is perfect.

We got isolated reefs surrounded by open ocean.

Let's just see if our chum slick helps any.

Larger predators will definitely be patrolling this edge.

Let's head down and do the same thing. Let's try to find them.

White sharks also hunt the smaller species here.

Shysharks will be hiding in the crevices during the day.

So let's make sure that we're looking in both directions.

I'm seeing movement like 20 feet below us.

Raggy. It's a ragged tooth.

Watch to your right. Another shark.

A bigger one.

Okay, good call. This is a great spot.

Wow! It's stacked with pajamas.

This reef goes on forever.

The gamble paid off big time.

Well, white sharks are big points.

Determined to stay out of last place,

British Bait off has descended over 100 feet into cold, murky waters.

At these depths,

Dan and Sarah are playing a dangerous game.

The air in their tanks is under so much pressure,

they are burning through it

four times faster than they would at the surface.

So their time is running out.

I'm not gonna lie, it's a bit creepy down here.

I hope it's worth it.

Keep your eyes peeled. It's pretty dark.

There has to be sharks down here.

Don't quote me on this, but I am almost certain

there is an obscenely small shark ahead.

Yeah, I thought I saw something too. Let's have a look.

God, it's a bit wispy looking, isn't it?

Surely there's more.

Never thought I'd be saying this, but where are the big sharks?

We really need some bigger points.

Oh crap. Sarah, you need to come back up.

We got distracted by the little guy.

What? Oh bugger. Yeah, that's not good.

Let's just head up. We'll go as slow as possible.

I only realized when you were going, "Come up! Come up!"

And I was like, "Huh? I don't need to come up."

And then I looked.

We've done everything we can. We've given everything that we have.

If we go out, we're going out swinging.

I'm fairly happy with our effort. I think it's… we've…

I think we've done probably better than we think we have

in terms of, like, the amount of sharks we've seen

versus how many other people have seen.

We've been on it every time.

The problem is we just started on the back foot.

So whether we've done enough to close the gap and some,

-that's gonna be the question. -Yeah.

-It's gonna be close. -How other people have done.

-Gonna be really close. -Yeah.

No pressure.

Gills Gone Wild is finally chumming,

even if MJ's not thrilled about it.

They need points, and they need them now.

If we keep following these fish on our chum,

we'll follow the scent trail and hopefully see some sharks.

I don't think I'm ready to see a great white.

Seems like there are less fish.

You know what that means.

I'm afraid so. More chum, right?

We both have been feeling really off this past week,

and little things that the ocean gives you change the whole perspective.

Last dive. How far are we from the dock? From the site?

About 15 minutes.

Oh. We're fine.

Yo, this is like the fifth spot that we've been at now, and we're tired,

and nothing, but we can't give up now.

We cannot quit. We gotta keep going to the last second.

Okay, three, two, one. Go!

With air running out and the clock ticking,

the Land Sharks are desperate to make something happen.

Their next move? A shipwreck.

Home to a variety of sea life,

and hopefully, the sharks they need to stay in the game.

Let's watch our tanks.

We don't want them getting snagged on anything.

And we do not want to run out of air.

Running into a great white isn't exactly what we're wishing for,

but if that's what it takes to stay in the game, then bring it on.

Yeah, definitely worth the final dive.

It sucks that somebody's going home,

but it gets us closer to what this competition is,

which is, teams are getting eliminated.

And so, yeah, winning's important to us.

Not gonna lie. It didn't go the way we wanted to today.

I know we gave it our all.

Hopefully, we did enough to stay in the game.

God, this is the hardest thing I've ever done in my life.

We're not going home. We're in a good position before this.

It's sad, but someone has to go home this time,

and it will probably be the Brits.

We have used it as motivation, us being at the bottom of the ladder here.
