[Cheeny] Today is Friction Fire Day.

This is the hardest skill in survival.

Four survivalists competed in a primitive fire challenge

for just three final spots.

[Darrin] All I need is that one little coal to start.

With Darrin, Matt, and Cheeny

all achieving friction fire.

[Darrin] Today, the goal was fire,

and I got it done. [yells excited]

Yeah, baby, yes.

I just made the friction fire of a lifetime.

Oh, my God.

[Patrick] Oh, my cord is broke.

But Patrick's struggles meant the end of his challenge.

[Patrick] I've been eliminated by some of the best

of "Naked and Afraid,"

and I hold my head up high about that.

Migrating to a new zone, the final three competitors

set up solo camps.

[Matt] See you when I see you.

Before entering a bird trap challenge.

[Cheeny] Craft a trap large enough to capture a pea hen.

Darrin continued his win streak.

[Darrin] My trap is done, it's reset.

Allowing him to make a strategic decision.

I'm gonna plan for the future and take the saw today.

I'm about to face the "Last One Standing" competition

with two other people who are every bit as strong as I am.

But tonight...

[Matt] It's a good day for battle.

It's the day we've all been waiting for.

The challenge starts now.

Let's go!

[Darrin] My entire life culminates today.

[Matt] I hope they're on my heels,

because if more they're on my heels,

it's like a dog barking.

It's gonna keep me running faster.

[Cheeny] I could be the first woman to win this thing.

[Darrin] It is a challenge of challenges today.

I am not failing.

[Matt] I came out to play, and I came to win.

[Darrin] Hopefully, today is the start

of the final competition.

I'm not thinking about any distractions

from life outside of this moment.

We're just waiting for that freaking flag to drop

so we can race to the finish.

I always had faith in myself, I never had a minute of doubt,

and that's what pulls you through in survival,

is believing in yourself.

You can never let anything bring you down.

You always have to know that you have what it takes

to survive.

[Matt] I get to face Darrin and Cheeny in the final three,

and they are some serious competition.

I'm humble enough to know I'm not guaranteed any spot

as "Last One Standing."

Anytime you can get extra battle practice,

that's what I'm getting.

To practice with the bow means you're gonna deliver

the right shot when you need it.

[Cheeny] Ugh...

It's gonna be a hot one today.

I'll make sure I got plenty of water to drink.

I'm so close to the end. This is amazing.

I proved that even the tiniest little human

can make it to the top with some of the biggest dudes.

I'm gonna give it 100%, just like I've been doing.

[Cheeny laughs nervously]

[Cheeny] Yay! Love scroll day.

[Matt] Scroll Day.

To reach the top and become Last One Standing,

you will need to craft a ladder and natural cordage

for tomorrow's journey.

Proceed to the location on the map with all your assets

for your final challenge.

Glad I got that saw,

'cause I'm gonna be needing it today,

it sounds like. -This is so exciting!

I feel so pumped to do this thing,

to skin this smoke wagon.

Matt, Cheeny, and Darrin have been given one day

to create the items they will need

for tomorrow's final challenge.

They must each use their bushcraft knowledge

to create no less than 12 feet of primitive cordage

using native materials from the outback,

as well as a ladder strong enough

to bear their body weight and allow them to climb

the side of a tall tree.

[Darrin] We don't know what this cordage is for,

like how strong?

Twenty pounds, 40 pounds, 50 pounds, 100 pounds?

So I'm just gonna build the strongest cordage I can

in the time frame I have available.

I need to start building.

So I'm gonna go start looking for materials.

[Matt] Let's go.

[uneasy music builds]

[Cheeny] Natural cordage.

We've got this grass.

I need to just hurry up and gather stuff up,

and then I need to head back to my camp

and start building.

Some of this is kind of dead and brown,

so I'm gonna take my time and walk around,

and I'm gonna gather the greenest,

longest blades of grass that I can,

and I'm gonna get a big bushel,

like a big, big bushel of it,

and I'm gonna take that back with me.

I have just today to prepare

this ladder, this natural portage,

these are both worth $100,000.

Ah, [bleep] I gotta build a new raft.

I've been busting my butt since day one

to stay in the game.

Moving.

I fought hard to be here.

Whoo!

Feeling like a real, real bad bitch right now.

My strategy from the beginning was blend in and, you know,

be middle of the pack until it was important

to finish on top.

I showed them I'm a force to be reckoned with.

[bleep] Whoo!

[excited cheer]

I'm the [bleep] queen of the jungle!

Little Miss Cheeny is a weapon.

[Matt] There's one tree I wanna experiment with.

Looks like a tree I used in the jungle for cordage.

So this tree here

looks a lot like a jungle tree I've seen in the Amazon

with its green bark

that made exceptional cordage from the inside bark.

So...

I have to test it first.

The Kurrajong tree's fibrous bark has been used

as a natural cordage for thousands of years

by aboriginal Australians.

[Matt] Those are the strands I'm looking for right there.

Last One Standing, it ranks at the top,

hardest things I've ever done in my life.

I started this entire challenge way behind the eight ball.

[grunts in pain] Oh, [bleep]!

You see my skin just blistered up right here?

Finished last in the Fire Pyre Water Challenge,

and got in a sudden death with Trent.

The challenge starts now.

[Matt] At that moment, is when I realized I got knocked down,

but you can get back up stronger.

Today, the savage continues.

I do believe it's it.

Right now, all I see is the finish line.

All I see is what I'm gonna showcase to the world

that you could go out starting at the bottom, never give up,

and win "Last One Standing."

I've been called the GOAT

of "Naked and Afraid" for a reason.

Throughout the years, I've taken game,

building rafts, building bridges,

and uplifting the team around me.

-[Ryan] Right? -[Matt] Yeah!

[Ryan] First bridge ever!

[Matt] I've had flesh eating bacteria.

I have had venomous snakes spit venom in my eyes and my mouth.

Oh! That's spitting cobra. Spitting cobra.

-[Molly screams] -[Matt] Got it, got it!

-[Molly] Are you serious? -[Matt] Yep.

Chased by lions, chased by elephants.

I have brought more food in than the top 10 people combined.

Savage strikes again! Right here.

Survival's in my heart and my soul.

The warrior's eating some warthog tonight, baby.

For me, I'm here to inspire those people at home

that are going through a struggle that, you know what?

Anything is possible.

literally gonna be the strongest rope

[Darrin] I need materials to, uh,

build 12 feet of strong natural cordage.

This is tough, tough grass.

This is the final challenge.

Today sets us up for a $100,000 win.

This is my second chance at "Last One Standing."

Last year, I got hurt and I had to go home

way before my time.

I pushed for seven days through the worst pain of my life.

I'm back for a reason, and it's to win.

I wanna be first.

I have indigenous living skills.

I'm quarter Shoshone.

Since I was five years old, I've been out in the bush

learning to live off the land.

All I've ever wanted to do is be able to walk into the woods

and not have to come home until I'm ready.

Like in kindergarten, I was asking the elders

around me to teach me survival techniques.

And so many of these challenges,

I'm working off of memory, I'm not learning as I go.

I do not live in civilization.

I live in the wild.

I didn't learn my skills on YouTube.

I learned them in the woods by myself.

I've prepared my whole life

to compete in a challenge like this.

To me, primitive survival and indigenous living skills

are very sacred.

And for me, they're a connection to the land.

They're a way to connect on a deeper level

with my surroundings and nature.

And that's what's always driven me.

Oh, yeah.

See how this thing works.

It's time to go collect some materials

and get this ladder built today.

Ladders are critical tools in primitive survival.

For retrieval of food in trees, or eggs from nests.

For tomorrow's final challenge, each survivalist must choose

a native tree from the outback to use in constructing

a ladder, with a minimum of seven weight bearing rungs

that are notched and secured to the ladder's frame,

and that is at least 12 feet tall.

[Darrin] Ooh, that is nice.

This saw is cutting through this tree so fast.

Wow.

So much less energy than chopping it.

A craftsman is only as good as his tools.

To have better tools than your competitors

means you can build faster and you can build better.

I'm just gonna build a very simple ladder,

and now I'm gonna be staying up late,

probably crafting my rope.

I'm saving that for last 'cause I can do that

by firelight.

Done.

Hot knife through butter.

These trees just came down so easy

and barely burned any energy.

Using a sharp saw versus swinging a heavy

awkward dull kukri is day and night.

[Matt laughs] I am a little hindered

because you can do a lot

with a saw that you just can't do

with one of these machetes.

Timber.

OK.

Darrin and Cheeny combined weigh about like what I weigh.

I have to make a ladder that can pick my big ass

up the top of it.

When I made that primitive ladder with Laura...

What do you think? Should I put my fat ass up there?

I mean, you're the tallest, but how you're --

It's definitely you.

Laura's climbing up the ladder.

-Ladder shifts a little bit. -Hold on, whoa, that's --

That's the top rung.

[Laura] The trust I have is literally with my life.

[Matt] I'm gonna need something that is gonna work a lot better.

I got a little junk in the trunk, and this ladder

needs to be able to get my junk all the way up to the top.

[Cheeny] I collected enough grass.

I have enough grass here to make like 200 feet of rope.

Now it's time to work on the ladder.

First, I'm gonna find a pine tree

and I'm gonna try the pine, do a weight comparison.

So, if the pine is lighter, I'm gonna go with pine.

And if the paper bark is lighter,

I'm gonna go with paper bark.

Probably like 115 pounds now.

So this ladder is gonna have to be lightly rated.

I'm like a 200 something, maybe 220 pound one for Matt.

He's a big dude.

So I have a huge advantage here.

I'm smaller than these guys

and I weigh a lot less than them.

My ladder doesn't need to be as strong as theirs.

I also have paracord that I am allowed to use

to construct my ladder.

I can't give my competition a single advantage today.

This "Last One Standing," kind of a redemption for me.

I was on the initial one.

My mind is back in Maine right now.

I miss my family a lot.

And I should be home.

My heart wasn't in it, and I walked away.

I'm very proud that I got to come back,

but the combination of "Last One Standing"

and this environment is so difficult

that it's taken out three women that have never tapped.

I could have walked away when everybody else

decided to tap out.

I had this feeling inside that said, "Don't give up."

I'm glad I stuck it out.

This is actually a really good one.

You know, coming out here and seeing my competition,

I wasn't sure if I was gonna make it this far,

and I'm here now.

Timba!

I've been giving it 100%

with every one of these challenges.

And to be the first woman to win "Last One Standing,"

what a story.

Oh, it's heavy.

[grunts]

I don't know what's gonna happen

and the odds are stacked against me in this challenge.

But I gotta keep having hope,

'cause I made it this far, damn it.

I made it this far in hope. I'm in it.

[yells]

Coming up...

In the final challenge,

[Matt] Come on, spark.

The title of "Last One Standing..."

[Cheeny] I'm leaving nothing behind.

Comes down to the very last spark.

[Darrin] Light, light, light.

[Darrin] This is the most important fire of my life.

-[Matt] Light, you bitch. -[Cheeny] It's not over yet.

[dramatic music playing]

[Matt] This is a big moment. This is where you realize

if your skills in crafting are gonna be enough

to essentially beat the skills of your opponents.

The three finalists are gathering materials

to bushcraft cordage and a ladder

that will be needed in tomorrow's final challenge.

[Matt] By the time I put some rungs on here,

this is gonna be a super sturdy ladder.

You got the rails up there,

and you've got the rungs.

I have made ladders, I have climbed them,

I have used them on various continents now.

They do require cordage.

The amount of cordage I have in general

is not much.

This right here is rawhide from the boar.

Rawhide is very stiff.

However, when you soak it, it's actually gonna become

very flexible.

If I soak this for a couple hours today,

it should be able to cut enough for rungs out of rawhide.

It shrinks, and as the heat of the day dries it out,

it's gonna be rock solid rungs, so.

And that's it, In a couple hours,

I'll be able to take that out,

cut some strips out, and help myself maybe

craft what I need to.

[Cheeny] For me, the ladder is easy.

It's the cordage that's gonna be difficult.

I'm doing a three strand braid with the grass.

By braiding multiple blades of grass

to distribute the load evenly, Cheeny is making

strong strands of cordage that she can splice together

for the required 12 feet of rope.

[Cheeny] When I was going through SERE training,

they made us make a lot of natural cordage.

We had to make it out of tree bark.

We had to make a 10 foot long piece

that was three strand braided.

And I remember being there in training, thinking,

"When in the hell am I ever gonna use natural cordage?"

I'm now using it.

All right, I've been making rope for a while now,

and I think I'm good, so let's measure it and see.

Stand...

at the end of it.

That marks 12 feet,

and I've got quite a bit extra.

It's taller than me.

So I have at least 18 or 19 feet of natural rope,

three strand braid with multiple blades of grass.

Cordage complete, that's the hardest task.

Now, I just have to work on my ladder.

[Darrin] I'm working on the ladder

while I have the best daylight,

'cause it requires the saw, so I don't wanna get injured,

and I can work on my cordage by the firelight.

Using my shovel.

Every tool available.

Matt, when he gets a kill, everyone eats.

And so every time there was a chance to grab a tool,

I grabbed a tool.

Because any time you can conserve energy

and make your life easier, you're moving ahead

in this competition.

That saw allows me to notch this in

so much stronger and tighter.

That is set in there.

Today's where every scrap of cordage we've saved

comes in handy.

Cheeny has paracord, and that is gonna be

an extreme advantage.

[Cheeny] So, I'm gonna do it

a little wider at the base for stability.

At a minimum, this is 12.

So I've got an extra at least two feet, almost, which is good,

'cause those guys are at least a foot taller than me.

At least Matt is.

So Matt is Mr. Naked and Afraid.

Let's face it.

He is so good at everything out here on these challenges,

but I can't let this get to my head.

My strategy is to go hard and fall back on my knowledge.

I could, in some cases, outbuild him.

But also, Darrin has the most bushcraft skills

of anybody here.

I have to catch him in his moment of weakness,

'cause he's that good.

This notch is gonna help the rungs stay in place.

The saw would be handy for this part.

If I make the notch too deep, it could weaken the ladder

and cause it to snap.

Paracord.

I need this thing to be super sturdy,

so to lash these rungs onto this ladder,

I'm using my paracord.

It is very, very strong.

That way, nothing rolls or moves.

This paracord is literally saving my butt out here.

My ladder's done.

Now it's time to test it.

This ladder is just like me.

It's small, and it's light, and it's strong as hell.

All I have to do now is go to sleep,

and I'm ready for tomorrow's competition.

[Darrin] Every one of my rungs, 'cause I had that saw,

is perfectly notched in, pounded into the notch,

lashed with cordage,

and these rungs are secure, they are tight.

[Matt] And now I have rawhide.

It's been soaking all day.

Everything today has to be a strategy.

Each and every day, you have to use

100% of your mind in survival.

Boar rawhide, I'm gonna make some strips of it.

And I'm gonna make the strongest ladder here

with a little rawhide, so...

see what I can do.

Get as long of rawhide pieces out of this one piece

of boar hide as I can get.

The bore rawhide that I put on this ladder

is so strong that I could literally climb this thing

a thousand times without it moving.

Right now, I'm trying to eat all my jerky

and make some rope.

I'm done with the ladder.

Got about an hour 'till dark.

See what I get done on this rope.

Matt is working with the pliable inner fibers

of the Kurrajong tree,

twisting them into two separate strands.

He'll then twist those strands together to form rope.

Twisted rope has more give, making it flexible

and easier to work with.

But it's not as strong or durable as braided rope.

[Matt] It's gonna create the most pliable,

best rope that we can make.

And that is, hopefully, what's gonna take me

to the next level.

[Cheeny] The final day is tomorrow.

I'm the last female here, and I'm in the top three.

It's really hard to perform under pressure sometimes.

You know, I'm nervous.

Oh, man, God is my witness. I'm telling you right now,

I could -- I'm giving it everything I got out here.

You know, my nieces are watching.

They wanna see a woman win this thing.

I wanna be that woman for 'em.

That's so much pressure.

[Matt] I know I need my rest.

I see myself at that final victory.

To me, this is something that...

I worked for -- for the last 10 years.

Year after year, your body's been defeated,

beat down, scarred.

This "Last One Standing..."

is that gigantic cap for this absolute

gigantic story.

So it means a lot more. $100,000 cap on that.

That $100,000 is gonna help me buy

my future farmhouse on like 10 acres

with enough animals and a big enough garden

to sustain myself.

That's my dream.

That's what I want more than anything.

And I wanted it bad enough that I stuck with it

and now I'm here.

I've been able to do everything that's been thrown at me

since day one.

-[crickets chirping] -[soft tense music playing]

[Darrin] I'm halfway done twisting the cordage.

Little over six feet of cordage.

I am so exhausted.

I can't even describe how tired I am.

It is the final day.

I was up till well into the dark,

crafting last night,

but the adrenaline starts pumping.

I am ready.

I built a sturdy ladder.

I got strong cordage.

Today will determine everything.

All competitors must gather the cordage and ladders

they have crafted

and travel one half mile to the X marked on their maps

to receive instructions for the final challenge.

[Cheeny] Want to go grab my ladder and my cordage

and get outta here.

Head to the battlegrounds.

This is it.

I can't afford to make any mistakes.

I am not gonna give up an ounce of anything.

I'm going full bore. I'm taking it home.

I want to be the Last One Standing.

[Matt] I went and I found a tree that is capable of literally

hanging my competition.

I started at the bottom on this challenge.

I'm gonna show you you can get to the top.

I plan to be Last One Standing.

[Darrin] I am not losing "Last One Standing."

I'm leaving with that money.

[Matt] It's the day!

It's a good day for battle.

[Cheeny] It's the day we've all been waiting for.

It's my turn to carry the torch now.

Ky did that on the previous "Last One Standing."

I was so proud to watch her kick ass out there.

Yes! Yes!

[Cheeny] She was so close to winning.

[Ky] This could be $100,000 shot right now.

[Cheeny] I think Ky and I have both shown

it's not about your size and your strength.

It's about what you know and how much

you're willing to give.

I'm leaving nothing behind today.

-[Matt] Here we go. -Oh, yeah.

Let's get this started.

To become Last One Standing, first surrender

all of your earned assets.

You will only take your ladder, cordage, hide, and kukri.

The final multi phase competition to determine

the Last One Standing will be a test of vital

survival skills demonstrated throughout the course

of this outback challenge.

[Matt] Here we go.

Begin your challenge by using your ladder

to climb a tree and retrieve a bow.

Once you have a bow, locate a quiver of arrows

and take aim at crocodile targets in the water.

-Nice. -[Darrin] Ooh, nice.

Now we're talking.

In phase one, the ladders constructed

by each competitor will be tested

as they look to retrieve a bow 12 feet high in a tree.

Then, in phase two, they must hit

both of their crocodile targets with two arrows each,

before swimming across the river

to reach their next challenge.

Next, create a J-hook and fasten it to your natural

cordage to snare an old fish trap from the riverbank.

Their crafted cordage will be tested in phase three,

as they each cut a branch into a J-hook,

attach it to their rope, and retrieve a floating

fish trap, which contains a fire starter

that will be needed for the last

remaining challenge.

With the ferro rod in hand, jump off the waterfall...

-[Cheeny] Sick! Yes! -[Darrin] Nice.

...swim to shore and gather fire making materials.

Using a natural striker, ignite a signal fire

to beckon the extraction vehicle.

-Nice. -[Cheeny] This is awesome!

In the final phase, competitors must get

from the waterfall to shore, where they will find

three signal pyres.

The first person to set their pyre ablaze

will earn a perfect 10.0 PSR, the $100,000 prize,

and the title of Last One Standing.

-[Darrin] Yeah! -OK.

OK, it's a -- you gotta surrender --

Dude, we're doing like everything that we've done

since we've gotten here, challenge wise.

[Matt] It is, yeah.

[Darrin] A lot of parts, a lot of steps,

and that just makes it difficult.

There's enough moving components

where everyone's gonna have

something they're better at today,

and one person can be weak at a particular skill.

It's archery, it's bushcraft, it's fire.

It is a challenge of challenges today.

But, hey, it's not easy to be the Last One Standing,

so bring it on.

-[Matt] Yeah. -[Darrin] Rock on!

Going to battle with y'all. It, uh --

[bleep] wouldn't wanna fight anybody else.

Let's get ready to let the battle begin, huh?

[Matt] So, obviously, I am a savage with a bow.

That is my forte.

But I finished last in the Fire Challenge on Day One.

So...a little bit terrified.

[Cheeny] I have concerns going into this challenge.

The archery challenges that we've had so far,

Matt has dominated.

[Matt] Hit!

Bunny time!

[Cheeny] This is gonna be the hardest day

of the entire challenge.

It is gonna take more than I think I have,

but this is my $100,000 day.

[Matt] Challenge starts now.

[Cheeny speaking]

[Matt] Let's go!

In the wild, valuable resources can be found

high above ground...

[Gary speaking]

...making the ability to bushcraft a sturdy ladder

vitally important to survival.

Hanging 12 feet in a tree is a bow,

which each survivalist must retrieve

using their 7-rung ladder.

[Matt] It's the grand finale.

It's gonna be one of those challenges

that mere seconds might make the difference.

So today is all about doing everything perfect

and not making a slip.

[Cheeny] I could be the first woman

to win this thing.

I can't afford to make any mistakes.

I'm hoping that with my ladder being as light as it is

and my cordage being a little bit longer,

that it gives me an advantage, and I'm not gonna give up

an ounce today.

[Darrin] We gotta get 10, 12 feet off the ground

on this ladder.

And this ladder is big, it's heavy, it's awkward.

[Matt] First part of this challenge,

I just crushed it, I got that ladder up the tree,

held up absolutely perfect, and I put on the afterburners.

[Cheeny speaking]

[Matt] This entire challenge, I've yet to run fast.

I didn't wanna burn myself up, blow a calf muscle

like I did that first initial "Last One Standing."

[Darrin grunts]

Today, I'm going fast, and I don't think

they were quite ready for it.

[Matt] Let's go!

[Cheeny speaking]

[Darrin grunts]

As Matt moves on to phase two of the final competition,

Darrin and Cheeny continue to work in phase one,

testing the stability of their ladders by retrieving

a bow 12 feet up in a tree.

[Cheeny speaking]

[Darrin] I'm the last one with a bow in his hands.

We just started, and I'm already behind.

[Matt] I got to the bows way before them.

These crocodiles, they're gonna get shot right in the head.

In phase two, the competitors must shoot down

at two crocodile heads below.

In survival, making a precise kill shot

while hunting dangerous prey, can be the difference

between a huge win...

[Matt] Oh ho! Nailed him!

...and a lost opportunity.

[Matt] Oh, dang it...

The crocodile heads are positioned

at different distances to increase difficulty.

The first target sits 10 feet into the water below,

and the second one is at 13 feet.

The competitors must deliver two kill shots

into each crocodile head,

to complete this phase of the competition.

[Matt] One! I can shoot the bow.

We all know I can shoot under duress, so I stay calm.

Two!

Because I need to be a little bit more precise.

[Cheeny] All right.

Spot's clean.

I can see the crocs, they're not too far off shore.

I'm focusing on the closest one.

-One. -[Cheeny] I take one shot, boom, kill.

Second shot.

Two.

Boom, kill. I'm on fire!

[Darrin] I am dead last,

and I'm going up against Matt and Cheeny,

and they both beat me in the last archery competition.

[Cheeny] Hit.

[Matt] Hit.

[Darrin] [bleep]

That one sucked.

Skipper.

Every bow shoots differently,

and so once I get a couple shots in,

Got one.

[Matt] At this moment, I don't feel

like I could be stopped.

Three!

Four!

Delivered my four arrows.

I'm surging with adrenaline.

[howls]

I am in motion, plowing things over,

and I'm about to plow myself to be the Last One Standing.

[Darrin] I hear Matt go, "That's four!"

He's already done.

I still got three more arrows to get in.

Two.

I'm always confident in everything I do,

but my arrows

are glancing off the target. I'm missing.

Jee!

It's like last archery challenge all over again.

Ah!

[Cheeny] I go to aim for the second croc.

Is that it? Yeah, that's it.

First shot, I hit him.

[bleep]

My fourth one, shooting just a hair too high.

It's literally skimming off the top

of this crocodile's head.

[bleep]

so I got a lot of lifelong muscle memory,

I came out ahead of Cheeny.

It's one thing I've noticed about archery.

My grouping is really good.

Sometimes, it's not in the spot where it needs to be.

Everyone has completed phase two of this

four phase final challenge.

Matt has taken the lead, followed by Darrin,

with Cheeny close behind.

[Matt] OK, I see the river, finally.

Now they will have to swim across the river

to reach phase three.

[Matt] Right now, I am feeling pumped.

I'm ready to blow through any obstacle ahead,

but these challenges are one after another,

and Darrin and Cheeny are literally on my heels.

[Darrin] I was the last to get my bow down,

but second to get my targets.

I am feeling great.

My mind is clear, and I am focused on these challenges.

[Cheeny] There were seconds lost with missing

that second crocodile, so many times,

but I know this next spot is

where I can make up some time.

Matt, Darrin, and Cheeny compete

in the final challenge to become the Last One Standing

as they all make their way across the river

to Phase Three, crafting a primitive hook

to retrieve a fire starter.

[Matt] They're on my heels. There's no way of stopping now.

I need to go as fast as I can to keep pushing,

but I hope they're on my heels

because if more they're on my heels,

it's like a dog barking.

It's gonna keep me running faster.

[Darrin] Losing a little momentum,

but pushed myself many times under adverse conditions,

and this is what I've been training my whole life for.

[Cheeny] A little worried.

These two guys, they're gonna be really,

really tough to beat, but I can't let that get me down

because, just because you're in last doesn't mean

you can't creep your way to the top.

[Matt] I got the bow out of the tree first,

and I shot the crocodiles first.

Right now I'm ahead.

I'm giving it all I got.

Everything's at stake.

You're the Last One Standing, or you're not.

And I want it bad.

All right, I need to make a J-hook.

The survivalists must craft a J-hook out of a tree branch,

then attach their 12 feet of primitive cordage

to create a tool useful for competing

against large predators.

It's a Nile crocodile. He's sitting there watching me.

The hook and cordage must be maneuverable enough

to snag the trap that holds the fire starter

and strong enough to retrieve it.

[Matt] Faster I can do it, faster's gonna work out.

That J-hook, I make it a flash from a pine tree

along the water's edge.

I know there's good branches forking off.

I've got the strongest, most pliable primitive cordage,

and I know the hook that I need size-wise

to get onto that rope.

This will be the hook right here.

I built all that cordage and the rope that hook

on that challenge with Laura. -Oh, let's go!

-We got it! Yeah, ha ha ha! -[celebratory shout]

This is a setup that's going to get me

to that finish line as fast as possible.

I put a pre-made noose on the end of it.

That little pre made loop allows me to go

onto that J-hook and lash it on in mere seconds.

I need to make sure it's strong as possible.

[Darrin] I see a dead branch as I'm running.

It looks perfect for a hook, so I just grab it to start

bushcrafting this J-hook.

Let's go.

As I arrive at the water's edge,

Matt is already ahead of everyone,

and Cheeny is hot on my tail.

[Cheeny speaking]

I find an old, dead pine tree. I'm like, "Perfect."

It's dead. It's easier to cut.

I can pretty much just snap this thing apart.

Gotta make a J-hook.

I have to be focused.

I have to be methodical.

I've had the fishing asset the entire time.

Part of this challenge is constructing a J-hook

to pull up a fish trap.

It's just a big fish hook, so I'm good there.

[Matt] All right.

All right, there it is, right there.

Right there, my J-hook.

At this point, I can't afford one slip.

I started like a juggernaut. I can't be stopped.

Here it is. Almost, almost, almost, almost.

[Darrin] A little too much slack in this one.

So close, yet so far away.

That one sucked.

Oh, come on, you bastard.

I don't know if there's something wrong with my hook

or if I just tied the cordage to the wrong end,

but every time I pull it in, the hook pops straight up.

Come on, come on, come on.

All right, get my cordage out.

I'm glad I made my cordage out of grass.

It's much easier to do hitches in and get it to stay

on this rough bark of the pine that I've selected

for my J-hook.

Come around.

Make sure it's tight.

I feel really good about my cordage.

I made almost 20 feet instead of 12.

I've got a little extra room to play with.

Come on.

I have to extend out a little bit.

Oh, my God.

Come on -- oh, there it is, there it is!

Cordage worked perfect.

Caught the fire starter.

I need to stay ahead.

I came out to play, and I came to win,

and that's what's gonna happen.

Feeling awesome!

I got my fire starter.

I caught up, I know I'm still in this.

I think I over engineered it.

I made a nice twisted rope instead of just tying freaking

grass together.

I came into this a little ahead of Cheeny,

and she gets her fire starter first,

and now I'm behind her dead last.

I'm way behind Matt at this point.

And if I don't get this trap, I lose $100,000.

Ah!

[Matt] Whatever's ahead, whenever this is up here,

it's go time.

Matt and Cheeny have both just finished phase three

of the four phase final challenge.

But Darrin is struggling to hook a fish basket

to retrieve a fire starter.

[Darrin] Ah!

Oh, come on, you bastard.

I'm dead last.

For some reason, my hook just keeps gliding off

of the fire starter.

I can't lose my patience here.

I have to stay focused, but every time I pull it in,

the hook pops straight up.

Ha!

I take off running as fast as I can.

Never give up. Persevere.

That's survival.

After finishing phase three,

each competitor will have to jump off a waterfall

and swim to shore, where they will find

their individual pyres, and begin the final phase

of the competition.

[uneasy music builds]

[Matt] When I hit the water, I hit it hard.

I am clenching on to that fire starter rod.

That is my lifeline.

And visualizing the pyre that I'm going to.

[coughing] Come on.

[Cheeny] I'm moving quick because I know Darrin

is not far behind me.

I can actually hear his footsteps.

I got adrenaline like you read about.

I'm not far behind Matt.

This is my chance to be the Last One Standing.

This is my chance to be number one.

[Darrin] Jumping off that waterfall,

I'm looking to pass Cheeny and catch up to Matt.

So I'm going as hard as I can so I can get started

on that fire.

[Matt] There's no such thing as a battle that's easy won.

I am pushing on fumes at this point.

It's allowing Darrin and Cheeny to catch up with that lead

that I had.

These challenges are one after another.

I am feeling tired and weak,

but I am 99.9% confident I will get that fire started.

To get a fire started on your ferro rod using a rock,

I just need to get this paper bark and some tinder lit.

[breathes heavily] OK.

The competitors must use their fire starter

to light a four foot signal fire.

In the pyres provided, they must locate tinder

and a stone that is effective as a primitive striker.

Though ferro rods are designed to be weather resistant,

water can reduce friction

between the striker and the rod,

decreasing the fire starter's effectiveness.

Once a fire is lit, it has to burn high enough

to sear through the primitive cordage

around a rock at the top of the pyre.

The first person to drop the rock

will win the title of Last One Standing.

[heavy breathing]

[Darrin] I'm dead last, and everyone's ahead of me.

I'm just gonna give it everything I have

in getting across that water.

[Cheeny] Just from the adrenaline

all day long, I was wiped by the time

I got to that waterfall.

I am zapped, totally.

And I'm just like, you have to fight.

I have been working so hard to get here.

[Darrin] Matt's already started this fire, and my only hope

is that Matt doesn't get that fire started before me.

I just run up.

I grabbed that rock with the jagged edge.

This is the most important fire of my life.

I know I need a big, fast, hot flame,

enough tinder to reach that rock in one go.

I'm not gathering bark.

I am just grabbing clumps of grass,

so when it lights, it goes up fast.

[Cheeny] The linchpin of this challenge

is finding that rock for the ferro rod.

And I know that the dry materials

will make or break you.

If anybody knows a thing or two about signal fires,

it's a SERE specialist.

I've been doing signals for a long, long time.

This is my bread and butter.

I grabbed all my materials.

They're bone dry.

[pants]

I'm behind on this fire challenge,

but you have to fight, it's $100,000 on the line.

You are so close.

[Matt] Final challenge is the only one

that you have to come in first.

[Darrin] Let's get this done.

[Matt speaking]

Matt, Darrin, and Cheeny are competing to create

a four foot signal fire.

[Darrin] Ah!

[Matt] Mere seconds might make the difference.

And I'm trying to get this basalt rock

to spark some paper bark.

[Matt] Right now, this rock and this ferro rod

are not working that well together.

Trying different parts of the rock.

I'm trying to get good solid sparks.

Instead, I'm getting a little tiny baby sparks,

and it doesn't wanna light that fire.

Obviously, the first elimination challenge I had,

I had a little fire issue.

[Matt] That was a neck to neck fight,

and I made it out by just a flight.

So, today, I'm gonna try like hell

to get this fire started.

I'm trying to build a fire with wet hands,

a wet fire starter, water dripping off our faces.

I gotta make this work.

This is down to the second.

Everything I've done my entire life culminates today

in victory or failure, and I am not failing.

[Cheeny speaking]

When you have no energy left and you're trying to strike

a ferro rod with a rock,

that is a true test of endurance.

But I told my mom that I was gonna kick ass and win.

That is exactly what I'm gonna do.

[Matt speaking]

[Cheeny] We are so close.

I have so much adrenaline built up inside of me.

I can't get enough oxygen right now,

but I literally cannot afford to stop.

I have been working so hard to get here.

This is not the moment where you give up

a fraction of anything.

No, my fire starter broke.

[Matt] Right now, Cheeny is struggling.

Those little things subtract time.

I think I'm actually making more progress than the others.

On the previous LOS, when there was a challenge

and we had to gather materials on the rush,

I saw my materials instantly, and that's why I was able

to come out first several times.

A fire started with two strikes of the striker,

'cause I know how to make a fire bundle.

Finding all that dry grass as soon as I got on that beach

is a key asset right now.

So close, yet so far away.

[Cheeny] No!

My ferro rod broke. The rod came out of the handle.

That cost me time, but even when you're down

and you feel like you're gonna lose,

you might just come out on top.

When it came to the Friction Fire Challenge...

[grunts]

...hand drill did not work, I was forced to do bow drill.

I get it cranking, it immediately starts smoking.

Oh my God, I'm [bleep] shaking.

And I still placed in third.

So, I am digging so deep right now,

I didn't think that I had this much to give,

and I'm so close to winning.

and it's starting to burn.

I am this close to being the Last One Standing.

to determine the likelihood of becoming

the Last One Standing.

exceptional survival skills

throughout their time in the outback.

...Darrin's expertise turned into competition victories.

I am first place, and I'm feeling great.

Darrin's day one PSR was 8.8,

but he entered the final challenge with a rating of 9.8.

Proving her mental strength to stay in the competition...

[Cheeny] It's real easy to wanna give up out here.

I could've walked away when everybody else decided

to tap out, but I still have so much to do.

Cheeny demonstrated her full arsenal of survival skills.

[Cheeny] It's bubbling on the sides.

I can't believe it.

I could cry right now, but I'm too dehydrated.

Cheeny entered the outback with a PSR of 7.7,

but started today's challenge at 9.2.

After torching his hand on day one,

Matt turned it around by showing elite skills

on competition days.

on a different day. And today was my day.

I can't believe what just happened.

the toughest" Last One Standing" in history.

I'm incredibly proud of myself.

I've been saying this whole time that I want to feed

my opponents and I want them to be at their best.
