Not all heroes wear kids.
Some just answer the phone.
Some just sit in silence, old space, and don't run when your soul gets loud.
I didn't need fixing. I needed a friend, and somehow you knew the difference.
I've had many friends come and go, friends I couldn't fully open up to.
Maybe it was fear, or maybe the friendship wasn't built for weight.
Either way, I'm still not sure.
But this I know.
Some friendships are seasonal, still good companions who were sunshine until
brought the storm.
I opened up and watched in dismay as the friendship cracked under the pressure
of my problems.
And then they scattered like autumn leaves.
My openness stained the friendship turned forever into call me when you're
But you...
You came into my world and redefined friendship.
You walked in when others backed out, showed up in the silence when my world
no soundtrack.
You didn't flinch when I showed the ugly, didn't flee, you stayed.
With love that didn't run, wisdom that didn't judge, with kindness that wrapped
around my soul like a blanket I didn't know I needed.
You didn't rescue me with speeches, you didn't try to fix me, you just stayed.
You gave me your time, your presence, your heart, when you had every reason to
walk away.
There was a time, I swear, there was a time I thought I'd never smile again.
But then came your laugh, your light, your way of turning brokenness into
something bearable.
Because of you, I can smile, even laugh recklessly now, like a child in
kindergarten who hasn't learned heartbreak yet.
John 15, 16 says, Greater love has no one than thee, to lay down one's life
one's friends.
You didn't just quote that verse, you lived that verse. You made it great.
You brought scripture to life in the way you showed up.
And maybe you didn't lay down your life, but you laid something sacred down.
Your convenience, your comforts, your home peace, just to carry my burden.
When the Bible said, there is a friend that's ticket closer than a brother, it
was talking about you, you.
You were the friend that's ticket closer than a brother.
The verse I read but never lived unto you.
I've always said it and I'll say it again and again and as many times as it
takes to echo through the years.
I'll forever be in your corner, loving you through the eyes and the heartbreak.
Lifting you when life gets heavy, through miracles and mundane days.
Celebrating you when the world forgets choosing you.
Best thing.
Let's grow whole together.
Let's show up for each other, even when it's not convenient.
Let's be unserious, laugh till we can't breathe.
And act like children when we're alone. Let's cry in driveways and make up over
coffee.
Let's be like David and Jonathan, souls knit by God, loyal beyond bloodline.
In a world that teaches us to God, it taught me to trust again.
In a time when I was shrinking, you reminded me how to breathe.
To you, my friend, who found me when I was losing myself, thank you.
For not needing the puppet version of me. For staying when others step back.
choosing my mess, not just my moments.
Thank you.
You were unexpected, but deeply God -sense.
And I will never stop thanking him for the day you walked in and became mine.
My friend.
My hope.
My healing.
My hope in healing from.
And on this friendship day, I don't just thank God for friendship.
I thank God for you.
